  • I am unclear how I have to use the Recovery CD

    I have added up all the space my hard disk is using it comes to about 12GB, I have 27.9 GB disk space but my disk only has 1.80 disk space left. I have done everything obvious to resolve this problem. Recycle bin is empty, I have run disk clean up.
    A computer expert suggested that Windows could have become confused and cannot recognize what space I have spare, this could be because I have run a program called Cyberscrub often. His solution was to reload Windows XP home. My laptop came with recovery disks, everything else already loaded. I have so much I do not want to lose on my laptop. If I use the recovery disks, will I lose everything on my computer, am I best to buy Windows XP home and re-load, in which case will I not lose my work?
    Also I am unclear how I use the recovery discs, I cannot find any instructions on what you do.
    The one person who could help me has gone off traveling and not contactable.
    Any help greatly appreciated

    Hello,
    what kind of programs do you have on your harddisk? Maybe a little description of your System will help us further. You mentioned, that you have a Program called Cyberscrub. Is this Program showing you your diskspace? Check this out! This program is, as i know, usually intended to wipe harddisks or files.
    Maybe you can try some Registry cleaner that cleanes out some information which is showing you wrong information that is corrupted by Cyberscrub. Maybe this helps.
    Another suggestion: run the program "chkdsk". This program will check out your filesystem on errors. Maybe it can fix that problem. You can run this program with right-clicking on the symbol of your systemdisk, clicking on "extras" and choosing the "Checking on errors" or something like.
    At all events, when this fails, then you dont have to buy a new XP Home. You dont need it because you have already one on a recovery cd, and you can solve that easily.
    You have to write down which programs you have in your system and backup your important data with a backup program or just burn it to a dvd or cd. You have the option to put the whole system on a mobile Harddisk connected over USB. This means backing up your system to this harddisk.
    After that, you have to boot with the recovery-cd, by pushing the "c" button at boot time.
    Then you follow the instructions and reload the "factory-like-installed" Windows XP on your Harddisk. Dont forget: all your data on the system disk will be erased, and the corrupted information of the free diskspace too. After that you just put the backup of your data back to your systemdisk and reinstall the programs you noted before the re-install of your system. Then the system will be clear again.
    Let me know about the activity of your problem.

  • How to recover IDS using CD recovery. and/or password recovery

    I'm getting the following error message:
    "No Hard drives has been found. You probably need to manually choose device drivers for the installation to succeed. Would you like to select drivers now?"
    IDS cd os 4.1(1)
    Choosing yes doesn’t lead to selecting drivers and I'm not sure how to install them. Choosing no doesn't help either.
    Also I'm trying to use this recovery CD on other unit that is password protected and I lost the password for it. i can't even boot from the CD. It boots immediately from the HD and it wont let me go for the CMOS setup to change boot order.
    Oren

    Okay...first things first. The IDS-4210 does have a power button. If the bezel is installed, there is a silver button on the front that controls power. If the bezel is removed, you will need to push on the plastic circuit cover where the power symbol is located. The symbol looks like a circle with a vertical line at the top. Press directly on that symbol. Typically the sensor will boot back up if you remove power the way you described if it was running at the time. This is because the power settings in CMOS are setup to return to the last state (running, off) after a power failure. It's possible that messing with the jumper on the board resets this setting causing it to lose state, and thereby requiring you to manually press the power button to get the system to come back up. This should get us back to the HDD issue....
    When you had the cover off, did you happen to check the power and IDE cables to the HDD? If not, try removing and reseating the connectors as a first step. You may also try moving the drive to the other bay and connecting it there (to rule out cable issues). This config should work, but it hasn't been tested. If you are still having problems, it is probably a HDD failure, and I would recommend RMAing the system. If you really want to make sure this is the problem before going through the hassle of an RMA, you can test the drive in a separate system (or swap with your second 4210). Just don't install two drives in the same 4210 at the same time.
    On the second system, you indicated that it was not booting to the CD, but would boot directly to the HDD. This may still be an issue with your CD copy, because not all IDS-4210s will behave the same way, even with the same CD. We have witnessed this in the lab ourselves. My only guess is that some of the CD-ROM drives are more sensitive than others. I would try to verify BIOS settings on this system before blaming the CD though, unless you have another CD to test with.
    Regarding breaking into CMOS, can you describe what you are seeing when the system boots? Are you connected through the serial port or with a keyboard and monitor? If you are connected through the serial port, you may not see anything if console redirection is not enabled in the BIOS. You will have to connect a keyboard and monitor to fix this. If you are on a monitor, you should see one of two things...either a Cisco splash screen, or standard text POST messages with a prompt to hit to run SETUP. Hit while either of these is displayed, and it should enter CMOS setup once the initial cpu and memory tests are completed.
    Let me know if you are still having problems after trying these suggestions. You can contact me directly if you want ([email protected]).

  • How to backup database using sql query?

    Hello,i'm student, i'm researching oracle database,i want to backup database that using sql query (like backup query in SQL SERVER) ,how to do that ??
    Thank!

    No, database backups cannot be done from within the database.
    Commands for backups are outside of the database.

  • Backups when using flashback recovery

    Sorry I searched on this but found no hits.
    Perhaps I'm confused but would appreciate if anyone could enlighten me.
    If the flashback recovery area is configured on ASM how do you backup to tape when the OS can not 'see' anything other than the physical drive?

    Do not forget that , once you are using ASM to store your database files , RMAN is the only method for performing backups of your database.
    you then have to configure SBT channels (with vendor specific parameters) to do your backup on tape ; note that all this is very simple if you use a network backup server such Legato Networker ...

  • How to backup database using RMAN on another server's tape?

    Dear All,
    Please give me an advise what parameters I should set up in RMAN to backup database on another server's tape.
    Best wishies,
    Givi

    I am connected to the database server from the server
    where I have tape, but Rman is searching tape on
    database server.I am not sure I understabd the above statement, but at the Operating System Level, you must ensure that from the Server you are running RMAN, it is configured to see the Tape Drive of the other Server. Once the Remote Tape is mounted with any name (say sbt) on the Local Server (however it is done with), then RMAN can configure the channels to use it.
    If you cannot get this access at the Operating System Level, then do not bother trying RMAN to access it.

  • How to restore using increment backup after full backup restore in RMAN?

    Hi All,
    We have a files of full backup of database after turning on the Archive log.
    And after that, daily incremental backup is taken.
    Now, i want to restore the the database into a new machine using both files of full and incremental backups. Can anybody give me script for restore of full backup and after that restore of incremental backup?
    Thanks,
    Praveen.

    Praveen,
    >>
    In my case, i have 2 sets of backups. One is full backup and other is incremental backup. In order to keep the restored database upto date, i need to restore the full backup and then restore incremental backup. Now, i got any idea how to restore using full backup. My doubt is how to update the restored database with incremental backup also?
    >>
    Restore always looks for level 0 backup, not the incremental backups.
    Incremental backups comes in picture during recovery.
    During Recovery, Oracle looks for incremental backups, if exists, it will do the recovery with the incremental backups, if no incremental backups available, then, it will look for archived logs.
    Therefore, incremental backups never used during restore, they are used only during the recovery.

  • Online RMAN incremental backups...

    Oracle10g RHEL4 AS
    HI All,
    I wanted to know what options can use to do an online incremental backup without using so much space. Currently, our flash recovery area is only 8G and when I ran an incremental backup it got filled after backing up only 3 datafiles. The command that I used was as follows:
    run {
    sql 'alter system switch logfile';
    allocate channel t1 DEVICE type DISK;
    RECOVER COPY OF DATABASE WITH TAG 'incr_update';
    BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL 1 FOR RECOVER OF COPY WITH TAG 'incr_update'
    DATABASE;
    sql 'alter system archive log current';
    release channel t1;
    Is there any option that I can use to compress or make smaller these incremental backups? Or is this perhaps happening because this is the first backup and it is making a Level 0 backup first and then future backups will be Level 1? Either way I would like to know how I can shrink the backups that are being generated.
    Thank you.

    Is there any option that I can use to compress or make smaller these incremental backups? You could try the backup set compression.
    Or is this perhaps happening because this is the first backup and it is making a Level 0 backup first and then future backups will be Level 1?Yes this is likely.
    You may also reduce used space in the FRA if you decrease your recovery retention policy (depending of course of your restore/recovery requirements).

  • Backup/restore using Stored porcedure

    Hi,
    Can any one tell how to backup/restore using stored procedure from schema....
    becoz this script will be used by front end application..
    How to do that?

    I "guess" you are trying to create some sort of ERP application which does everything inside-the-box. The reason for this guess is that few months back, I got a similar kind of request from a friend who runs an ISV and wanted me to write a code doing the same for his VB app. Well, my answer was same which you have got just now from other members. Backup/Recovery shouldn't be based on some home grown application , atleast as long as that app is not as robust as APPS or SAP or some thing like that. If you want to do some backup/recovery thing in a script, better you write it in some shell/batch script and run it. Don't try to push it in the some procedure which being tied to your application.
    Sybrand mentioned two techniques, RMAN and DB Console, both will do your work excellently.
    Just my 2 cents.

  • Trying to ... Restore files from MINWINPC folder using HP Recovery Manager

    Please help me ... I follow all the steps (pasted below) to restore my PERSONAL files from the MINWINPC folder copied to my desktop computer (new hard drive) from an external hard drive, however it then asks me to insert disc # 171338041 !!! I don't know what disc this is or what it wants!!!! it is very frustrating. Consequently it does nothing other than ask for this disc! even after 2 hours of allowing it to scan for the files  ! Reading various information sites/forums it would seem that it is asking me to insert the last disc of the series, however the backup files were all placed onto an external USB drive. and the files are in the MINWINPC folder. It appears to me that the HP Recovery Manager is not reading from the correct place! The files were backed up from my HP compaq which originally ran Widows Vista and was later ugraded to Window 7. The MINWINPC folder contains 2 files namely : Backup.1.exe and Backup.2.fbw I should be grateful for any help... Please ---- Instructions: Restoring backup files using HP Recovery ManagerTo restore backup files that you created using HP Recovery Manager, follow the steps below.Open the USB device to which you wrote your backup file, such as your USB flash drive, and then copy the MINWINPC folder to a convenient location on your computer, such as your desktop.Locate and open the MINWINPC folder on your computer, and then double-click the executable file (.exe) that was created during the backup process.note:There may be more than one file, but only one will be an application (.exe) file. Other backup files created with HP Recovery Manager will have an .fbw extension.When the Recovery Manager File Restore Program opens, click Next.Select the types of files that you want to restore and then click Next.----

    , Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums.  There is a way of doing a back up using a USB device but it has to be less than 32 GB.  If the data is any more than that then it will become corrupted. As well the back up came from a Vista system and the backup will be looking to load back onto the same OS.  By going to Windows 7 it will not find what it is looking for. You would have had to use another back up software for your data that could handle the amount and normally the best way is to plug in a USB hard drive and just drag and drop your files over. At this point you will not be able to recover your data the way you are trying. I hope this helps. Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

  • Incremental backup confusion

    i a reading the RMAN doc i have one confusion in one paragraph please clear me
    How Incremental Backups Work
    Each data block in a datafile contains a system change number (SCN), which is the
    SCN at which the most recent change was made to the block. During an incremental
    backup, RMAN reads the SCN of each data block in the input file and compares it
    to the checkpoint SCN of the parent incremental backup.
    If the SCN in the input data block is greater than or equal to the checkpoint SCN of
    the parent, then RMAN copies the block.
    my confusion is what is checkpoint SCN of the parent?
    tks & regards
    umaisi

    thanks paul,
    actually i am confused checkpoint scn,both are different thing checkpoint occurs due to log switch while scn as you told from oracle doc...!!
    A stamp that defines a committed version of a database at a point in time. Oracle assigns every committed transaction a unique SCN.
    but where i am reading
    If the SCN in the input data block is greater than or equal to the checkpoint SCN of the parent, then RMAN copies the block.
    it should be like
    If the SCN in the input data block is greater than or equal to the SCN of the parent, then RMAN copies the block.
    but why it is written checkpoint SCN ..may be it is some other concept regarding checkpoint SCN therfore i am confused please clear me..
    what is checkpoint SCN?
