How iphoto files are saved

When I got my mac I transferred all my photos over and saved them in Pictures and then imported them into iPhoto - now im wondering does this mean I know have two copies of my photos, can I delete the original files and theyll still be in my iphoto library?

Unless the computer's drive fails. You may not have time to recover the photos to another drive then. One of my drives failed suddenly without warning. I have my entire iPhoto Library on two different drives. One is my operating one, and one is the backup In addition, I am in the process of putting all my photos and videos into iMovies, editing them w/ titles, music, and then burning them to DVDs. I also have files of the edited photos on two drives, and plan to burn the photos to DVDs soon....should have already done that

Java Derby. How my data are saved?

Hello,

I want to create an apllication in Java, using as database Java DB (Derby).
Does someone know how the data are saved? I need this apllication for a customer, and i woud like if data could be saved in a single file, pretty much like access do.
Secondly, does anyone know if there is an easy way to start Derby?
And, last but not least, following the tutorial mentioned above, i can't use NEW button to create a new record in my database. I can modify a record that is already saved in my database, but i can't create a new one.
Anyone that has an answer at any of my questions please feel free to instruct me.

How the files are decreasing from RBS storage after some time i delete docs from document library, where shld I check the settings for this?

I created a web application and configured rbs storage ,
I uploaded documents (for ex: 18 number)
after uploaded documents , and observed the RBS storage folder, number of files are increasing (39 number) , its working fine
and also I run the querys to check the rows increasing or not , (when I upload new doc rows are increased its fine also)

but when I delete some docs from document library ,
1)the doc itself deleted from document library
2)when I check the rbs storage there is no number of files are decreased(its still 39 files ), its same as before doc deleted from doc library
after some time I found the number of files are decreasing from RBS storage folder in sql server,
here I want to know the how the files are decreasing from RBS storage after some time, where shld I check the settings for this? and how I control on it
here how I know the settings for cleaning up orphan BLBOS how these deleted BLOB

1. WHen you delete the file from Sharepoint, it is still present in Recycle bin. This is a default setting in sharepoint for 30 days. Once files are deleted fro Recycle bin, it can also be delete from RBS

Files are saving to desktop instead of into the original folder

Is there a simple fix? Some files, such as Quark files are saving to the desktop, rather than to the folder in which the original file resides. I've checked everywhere for the selection "save to same location as original file.," or some such thing. Help!

Excel files are saved as HTML files

Hi All,
I am saving the output files into a shared location in excel or csv format. However when i ask the users/business to have a look into it then they say that the files are opening as html web page and not able to load properly.
I checked it myself and found it true, all the xls and csv files are saved with .xls and .csv format only but when i try to open it and do as 'save as' then it by default tries to save it as a webpage. Is there any way i can correct this so the file is actually saved as xls only.

Hi Gareth,
I am using BI Publiser to ftp my report to the shared location. This is what it involves
[1] build the report in BIP
[2] while scheduling the report in BIP use sftp option to save the output file to the shared location
this is simple process to export the files to the desired location. Now while doing that ...i choose the output format ( template format) as excel and give the extension of the file as .xls.
The files does get saved as xls file but then when i try to save that agian to another location by opening it than it, by default , tries to save it as web page ....similarly when i ask business to have a look at the output files and when they open it than it opens as a web page .....wheareas it should be an excel file ..
Please revert if you require more elaborate explanation

What Files are Saved during a Time Machine Backup??

Hi,
When I carry out a time machine backup, what files are saved?
I have just plugged in my external hard drive to carry out a back up and its 56GB!, my last TM backup was only 2 weeks ago and I haven't downloaded that much data!

OWB 10g: how control files are generated?

We are using OWB 10g within a 10g Database. We want to know how control files are generated by OWB in the file system. The reason we need to know is because our DBAs do not want to create directory objects pointing to NAS devices, their policy states that all directory objects should be on SAN shares. We rather use NAS shares since it simplifies our batch (too long to explain here). OWB has the "CREATE ANY DIRECTORY" privilege granted. Is it using this privilege to create a directory object for the path we specify the control file in the mapping or is it writing directly to this path? We checked the directory objects created (SELECT * FROM DBA_DIRECTORIES) after deploying a control file and it didn't seem to have created any new ones. Anyone knows how OWB creates these control files?

Yes, indeed that's what we were after. We basically wanted to be sure we are not breaking an internal policy that says that "Oracle directory objects can not be located on NAS shares". The reasoning behind this policy is that NAS shares are not deemed highly available or high I/O devices hence our Oracle DBAs will not allow us to create any Oracle directory objects in NAS shares. The policy states that all database data should be stored in SAN shares which are directly attached to the servers and are therefore high I/O devices. It is arguable if the OWB data we want to load is really part of a database, we believe it is not. There are other implications in our environment about using NAS instead of SAN (NAS can run in active-active mode across different data centres, whereas SAN requires replication since it doesn't usually work well in an active-active mode across different data centres). So based on your answer we should be fine since OWB reads and writes directly to the files without using Oracle Directory Objects which supports our theory that these are not DB specific files and are only "OWB App" files which can then sit on a NAS without breaking the above stated policy.

How to view Photoshop files are saved in the iPhoto library in Bridge?

I was very happy to see that photoshop files are now a supported file in iPhoto. However I was really bummed to see that once those files are placed in iPhoto they can't be viewed in Bridge. Does anyone know a way to fix this?

Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". I use audio memos and files are saved in icloud. while updating audio memo the apps stop working. i cannot access the apps. how can i retrieve the files saved in icloud ?

I can't access the audio memo apps but i can see under usage - manage storage that all the files are located in icloud. how to extract .wav files from icloud if the apps is no longer responding to fileshare in itunes? Thanks.

yes it was solved some time ago. i cant remember exactly but i think i disconnected from the internet and tried accessing the audio apps (or maybe i had accessed the apps first then only turned off internet i cant remember) thereafter the files were in my local apps and then I turned off use icloud. i suggest you backup your ipad on itunes before trying anything. All the best - hope you solve your problem.

How the files are recorded/saved.

Getting an iPad2 and GarageBand. Wondering how the files save and how much space they take up? I know raw wave files are quite bulky. Im looking at the 16GB wifi iPad. Any info?

Iphoto files are there, but no images

IPhoto 7.1.5
My library is intact, and all my files are there, well in theory. The files exist, and they are taking up the correct space, but I can't seem to see them at all!! I also just connected to a time capsule and did my very first backup. Unfortunately, my new backup has the same thing. I tried the option + command startup with no avail! I have EON's of photos that I would rather not loose. Please help me!

Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Obvious Way to Tell How Many Files are Selected?

I’ve been trying my best to love Lightroom, and I get close, but there’s one problem that I just can’t get past.
Five minutes ago, I tried to export one photo, and I ended up exporting 52 photos. This happens all the time. If I had a dime for every time I exported 500 photos instead of 1 photo, moved 500 photos instead of one photo, etc, I’d have a lot of dimes.
Anyway, I deleted the 51 extra exports, synced the folder, got everything where I wanted it, then … exported 52 photos again.
Sigh.
The only way I’ve been able to avoid this is in the past is by obsessively pressing Command+D. When I’m trying to do anything, I pound these two keys like there’s no tomorrow, but of course, I have to re-select the files I do want to perform actions on.
I kept thinking I’d get used to it, but I’m still having problems to no end. Unless I look very, very closely, I can’t tell if photos are selected or not, and if an entire screen full of photos are selected, they all look the same, so I really can’t tell.
That’s the background, now my questions if I may:
Is there any way to get a dialog box before performing actions on multiple photos? Something that says, “this action will be performed on 1,871 photos, do you want to proceed?” or something to that effect?
Ironically, it already does this when I want to delete something, which is great, but no such luck for any other actions.
By any chance, is there something I can do to make the number of photos I have selected, more obvious?
I know this is not a bug or program flaw, it’s a flaw with how my brain works with the program, but if I could figure out a way to make them work together , this application would be pretty awesome. As it is, I spend more time undoing mistakes than I do organizing and editing photos.

I am so pleased to read your post and realize I'm not the only one that gets tripped up by this! I've bee using LR extensively for more than two years now and even today, just now, I wanted to export ONE file, and the highlighting onscreen appeared to indicate I've selected one file, but turned out it was dozens of files. Now... when I'm simply exporting copies of files to another folder it's not a dangerous situation. BUT! It is very dangerous if one wishes to delete a file or several files and you think those are the only files you're deleting. Many, many times I have caught this in time, fortunately. To me this is one example of how the experience of software designers do not well understand how the end user will understand a program. Professional photographers are very specific with everything they do and don't want a program tripping them up continually. This obvious confusion over which files are actually "selected" needs cleared up.
I read the responses to your post and find them dissatisfying. Please, Adobe, test your software with actual working photographers and not just Adobe engineers who may also happen to be amateur photographers.

Changing how download files are opened

Hi, is it possible to change how a file is opened from the downloads window?
I am specifically thinking of .doc files which open in text edit windows, and wld rather they opened in pages or adobe.

You can't open .doc files in Adobe, since there is no such application. Adobe makes several applications, and if you're referring to Adobe Reader, it only opens PDF files because that is it's sole purpose. If you have Pages,
You can open .doc files in Pages if you choose; you will need to Get Info on the .doc file and change the "Open with:" application to Pages, then click the "Change All…" button to apply it to all.doc files.

How to transfer itunes library to new computer? files are saved on ipod

I have an ipod classic with all my music and movies but now that I have a new laptop and had to download itunes again none of my songs are in my library! I have not synced for fear of losing what I do have so I also need to know how to save what I have into a file on the computer as backup.

I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand? Have you tried clearing your browser's cache (Command+Option+E for Safari) and reloading the site?
Where are you hosting your site? How are you uploading the site files to the server? What is missing from your website?
