How is 100% Zoom Calculated?

In reading a similar post for Photoshop Elements, the respondent indicated that a 100% zoom is where one pixel from the camera is displayed as one pixel on the monitor. So, if my monitor has a display of 1,680 x1,050 and it has a diaganol dimension of 15.4" and I am doing a 100% zoom on a 16.2 mpx file (4,912 x 3,264) how is this magnification calculated?
Thanks
Earl

In other words, if I take a 10 mpx file, a 16 mpx file, a 24 mpx file and a 40 mpx file; at 100% zoom they will all display 1,680 x 1,050 pixels of that file?
Exactly! Lightroom calls it 1:1 instead of 100% but that is a detail.
So when you are looking at a 10 MP file at 1:1 you see the equivalent of a crop from a 30x20" print, with 16 MP a crop from a 38*25" print, with 24MP, a crop from a 47x31" print and with a 40MP file, a crop from a 60x40" print.
I do these calculations more often as you might be able to tell ;-)

    Here's a quick example I threw together that generates a sort-of-bell-curve shaped data distribution, then performs the binning and plotting.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS6 100% Zoom Issue

    Adobe Photoshop CS6 Version 13.0.6 x64
    OS X Yosemite Version 10.10
    100% Zoom is very tiny on my screen. How do I fix?

    An Images dpi setting has nothing to do with it.  Its all about the number of pixels you have.    Image for the web have fewer pixels.  It does not matter it you set the image DPI resolution is 72, 300 or any other value when you don't resample the number of pixels remain the same.  When you display actual pixels 100% zoom an image with 10K pixels with a 300dpi is the same 10K pixel image with a 72dpi resolution setting.  Printers will use the images dpi setting to adjust pixel size.  Displays do not they are run at their native DPI resolution whatever that is.  So a 10K pixel image with a 72DPI setting and a 10K pixels image with a 300DPI setting will be displayed as a 10K pixel image at the displays dpi resolution.
    DPI defines Pixel size pixel density  300DPI means 90000 square pixels per inch  so the pixel size would be 1/300" x 1/300".  72DPI means 5184 pixels per square inch so pixel size is 1/72" x 1/72"
    So if you have an image with 7200px x 7200px and set the dpi tp 72DPI and print it will print 100" x 100" do know of a printer the cal handle 100" paper
    So if you have an image with 7200px x 7200px and set the dpi tp 300DPI and print it will print 24" x 24" you need a large form printer that can handle 24" wide paper
    This image can not be displayed on a display zoomed to 100% only part of the image will fit you will need to scroll about the image. Unless you have a 34" display with a square aspect ratio with a 300DPI native resolution that I don't know about.

  • 100% zoom is too small on screen

    Hello, I'm using photoshop CC on amacbook pro retina. I mainly use photoshop for web design and when I open a document that is 300x200 px, the 100% view is too small on screen. Any ideas, It was this way on PS cs6 also before I upgraded. I just tried to delete the prefs file and restarted PS and it did not change. I have also tried to change my screen resolution to "best for retina" and it is still the same.
    Steve

    I'm sorry, I don't mean to be condescending.  But the problem is you've paid extra for something that's actually an improvement, but now you don't want it to work any differently than what you had before.
    You don't appear to understand how images and displays actually work.  I'll try to provide an explanation...
    Images are made out of pixels.  Little squares of one and only one color each that when stacked in rows and columns together make up what we call an image.
    Your display has the ability to display little lighted squares of one and only one color each (it's really a bit more complicated than this, but I'm trying to keep it simple).  Stacked in rows and columns these tiny display sites make up your display screen.  Before the Retina display, every square inch had roughly 100 x 100 of these display sites.  Now (assuming a 15" Macbook Retina display) you have 220 x 220 of them in every square inch.
    In order to fit so many more in a square inch they have to be much smaller.  With me so far?  Each tiny display site is 1/220 of an inch on a side, by definition.
    When Photoshop displays an image, it sizes it per your guidance - you set the Zoom factor.
    100% zoom - by definition - means that one pixel from an image will occupy one display site on the screen.
    Can you now see how, since the display sites are much smaller on a Mac retina display, an image displayed at 100% will appear smaller?
    Now here's where some additional magic comes in:  The folks who programmed your operating system and browser realized that you would probably not like to see everything less than half the size it was, so they automatically use 200% (or more) zoom behind the scenes so that the pictures and stuff on web pages and application controls are displayed nice and big.  This happens with older non-retina applications automatically as well - it's called pixel doubling.
    To directly answer your question:
    Set an appropriate zoom level in Photoshop to make the image as large as you'd like to see it and you will be fine.
    It may help you to feel better to think, when you see the sharp edges of the pixels at zoomed-in sizes, that you have a display that's got such high resolution and is so accurate that you can see the edges of the actual pixels, while all the folks who don't have Retina displays are just seeing them blurred together.

  • How is Last Played calculated?

    A song has to play right through before Date Played is changed (I know this because I've watched it happen).
    However, a little while ago I put a song on pause right at the start in order to watch TV. When I came back to it, the song was still on pause, but Last Played showed today, the time I paused it. (I played it through, and it changed again).
    Surely, while it was paused, the Date Played should not have changed ?

    In other words, if I take a 10 mpx file, a 16 mpx file, a 24 mpx file and a 40 mpx file; at 100% zoom they will all display 1,680 x 1,050 pixels of that file?

  • Acrobat X Displaying Embedded PDF at full / 100% zoom

    Hi
    I have embedded a pdf onto my page here http://www.entirefilingbankruptcy.com/bankruptcy-exemptions/alabama/ but it is shrunk too small.
    The source pdf is also shrunken - http://www.entirefilingbankruptcy.com/bankruptcy-exemptions/alabama-exemptions.pdf
    Could someone please point out how to have the PDF display at its full size (1020 x 540)?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Which browser are you testing with? In my testing, the PDF appears small in Google Chrome when using Google Chrome's built-in PDF viewer:
    When testing with Firefox using the Adobe Acrobat plugin, the PDF fits the width of the viewable area:
    It appears as though Google Chrome's built-in PDF viewer displays PDFs at 100% zoom by default. The page size of the example PDF is actually 1.70in x 2.11in, so when displayed at 100% zoom it appears quite small.
    I don't know of any way to control the default zoom level when the PDF is being displayed by Google Chrome's built-in PDF viewer.

    Brian

    Let's say your application module is com.yourcompany.someapp.services.MyService, and let's say you authored a method like the following in the MyServiceImpl.java file:
      public void doSomething(int i, String s) {
      }and you exposed this AM custom method using the AM editor.
    BC4J design time will automatically create you the com.yourcompany.someapp.services.common.MyService interface that will look like this if you go look at the source code:
    package com.yourcompany.someapp.services.common;
    import oracle.jbo.ApplicationModule;
    public interface MyService extends ApplicationModule {
      public void doSomething(int i, String s);
    }To use your custom method from a client, just cast your ApplicationModule to your custom interface like this:
    import com.yourcompany.someapp.services.common.MyService;
      MyService mySvc = (MyService)yourAM;
      mySvc.doSomething(1,"foo");

    so how can i pass calculated value to internal table iznew1,

    When you declare your internal table , make an addtion occurs 0
    eg . data : begin of iznew occurs 0 ,
                    fields ...
       add the field here ed1.
               end of iznew.
    now when you are calculating the value of ed1,
    you can pass the corresponding value of  ed1 and modify table iznew.
    eg
    loop at iznew.
    iznew-ed1 = ed1.
    modify iznew.
    endloop.
