How is final cut studio 7 working with lion

I am still in snow leapard, 10.6.8 and useing Final Cut Studio 7 and Logic 9, i have been considering moving to  Lion and looking for some feed back on the compatability of FCP7 and Logic 9 with LION, for the past few months the word on the street has been mixed, it is now mid jan 2012 is there any clear info on the compatablity of these programs with lion?

What are the benefits you perceive in moving from SL to Lion? Some people report FCS problems and others don't.
If you do move, clone your systems drive…just in case.
Good luck.

As Final Cut Studio consists of several applications, either go to your System Profiler under Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info, and select Applications to determine which applications are PowerPC, or visit this website and check the version info of each application to see what works and what doesn't:

  • Will Final Cut Studio 3 work with OSX Mavericks?

    Hi,
Does anyone know if Final Cut Studio 3 will work with the New OSX Mavericks when it's released this fall?
    Thanks in advance

If you have the snow leopard install disk, you can do a custom install and just install rosetta.

I've done it a few times without any issues, and I haven't seen any definitive reports detailing the problems with this.
Doing a complete clean install is the much safer way to have a dependable system.  Here's a user tip on OS and FCP installation

I'd also recommend creating a bootable clone of your startup drive before doing any os upgrades or application installations or upgrades.  That way if things go south, you can easily return to the previous working system.

  • Who has Final Cut Studio 2 working perfectly?

Does anyone here have Final Cut Studio 2 working perfectly across the board? Meaning..All the effects, sound loops, templates, media...etc all show up with no problems except the occasional crash here and there.
I am about to reinstall the OSX from scratch to install Final Cut Studio properly. Also....I plan to install all of the option media on a seperate hard drive.
    Any suggestions? Advice?

For starters, I know its an error on my part. I am not talking about isntalling an upgrade. I recenlty brought Final Cut 2 academic. I know Final Cut Studio when it comes to the actual editing process, I just need help with the installation process.
My Final Cut Studio is is still very very usable...I prodcued an entire pageant with it. I just want it to work perfectly. In Motion...some of the media is missing, in soundtrack, some of the music files are missing.
When I installed updates for Final Cut and Motion.....motion started crashing and certain effects stopped showing up in Final Cut. I solved the Fianl Cut Problem, but still have hte missing media problem in motion.
Also, I installed all the optional media on my internal hard drive. 120 to be exact. Now I am down to 2 gig of space.
I am goign to buy a portable hard drive and store the optional media on there along with video, render files, etc.
What I am asking is....for the people who have Final Cut Studio 2 working properly...can you guys tell if you installed any final cut studio updates...if so which ones....also, what version of the OSX are you guys running.
I am really not frustrated are mad....I know it's error on my part....now....I am trying to get it right.

  • Will Final Cut Pro X work with Yosemite

Will Final Cut Pro X work with Yosemite?

me too version 10.8. It would have been nice to know yosemite was going to crap out my primary video editing software! I use this for my video editing for my business video production and it would have been nice to know ahead of time or here's a crazy idea how about the software developers who are making millions off final cut pro sales release a fix BEFORE apple roles out yosemite for free. I don't have time to chase down every blog in the world to see issues etc. The reason I bought a mac is I just need it to work so I can work on my business.

  • Will the new final cut pro x work with my Final cut pro version 6.0.6 data

will the new final cut pro x work with my Final cut pro version 6.0.6 data

    Thanks Tom.
So I will need  upgrade to FCP 7 first, then convert to an XML file in 6.0.6, then convert to another file that FCP X can read? I have a lot of half done projects that need finishing. Is this process very complex and time consuming?
Maybe I should be approaching this from a different angle. The reason I am asking is that I now need to upgrade to a new Mac book pro and have been told that I cant run final cut pro 6.0.6 on the new models using maverick. Is this true?

  • Final Cut Studio install - Trouble with DVDSP 4 Preferences & Burn / menus

Hi there. I recently upgraded my dual G5 to Tiger and upgraded my FCP 4.5 & DVDSP 2 by installing a full version of Final Cut Studio.
Final Cut is working fine. DVDSP is not. It opens fine, however when I choose to open the Preferences to setup format (PAL) and encoding prefs, etc - I do not get a dialogue box. If I try the shortcut, I see the menu bar light, but again no dialogue box.
I tired to build a new project with compressor encoded mpeg2 & aiff streams and found that Burn / Build & Format are greyed out in the menu. I know that the file types are fine as I have used them before without any issues. I checked to see that the correct serial number is for FC Studio and it is. I have also ran all of the updates.
I also find that Compressor is often a little buggy. Sometimes works fine, other times crashes.
    Anyone have any ideas?
I really do not want to reformat by reinstalling Tiger fresh. I am thinking about trying to delete all of Final Cut Studio and the older FCP & DVDSP apps on my machine.
I would really appriciate some advice beofre I get myself into any mess!
    Thanks for reading!!

Hello. Many thanks to everyone that tried to help me.
My problem has now been solved by the same post in the DVDSP forum. Here is the post that solved all of my problems.

Even though the software update appeared as if I was completely up to date, the ProAppRuntime.dmg solved all of my issues. Thanks David S.!!!

I would like to say BIG THANK YOU to David S.!!! I DL'ed & installed the update you mentioned. After a restart, DVDSP 4 is now working fine. The update resolved my preference & burning & building issues. I am very HAPPY to have a reprive from a fresh install.

  • Which version of Final Cut Pro will work with Mac Book 10.75?

I can not put Final Cut Pro 9 on my Mac Book 10.75 (Lion).
Which version of Final Cut Pro will run on Mac Book 10.75 (Lion).
    Thanks

    Ok, first, your questions's answers:
FCS1 had a full version & an upgrade from any version of FCP. You only need the serial # handy when installing FCS upgrade.
Now FCS2 has TWO upgrade versions: one was for FCS1 ($499), the other was from any version of FCP ($699).
NOTE: Academic and Not-For-Resale (NFR) versions are not eligible for upgrade.
    http://gizmodo.com/252425/apple-rolls-out-final-cut-studio-2-first-impressions
Here's something else to consider: with the march away from the PPC as a whole & your upgrade cost to FCS3 is $299, I would be very careful how much you spend for the older copies.
If FCS1 or 2 is too hard to come by or cost what it did originally (or more), you may want to consider picking up a (used or new) Intel Mac with ATI or Nvidia graphics. even the newest mini might surpise you & get you by until you can afford something else.
    Good luck!

  • Final Cut Studio 2 issues with some AU Audio Plug ins

Just installed Final Cut Studio 2. When trying to open the program, every time it reaches the audio filters loading part of the load, it crashes. It's seeing Celemony Melodyne, a vocal tuning plug in, and then it just stalls and crashes. All attempts to remove Celemony Melodyne from my computer haven't seem to make any difference. It keeps trying to laod that plig in. Is there any way to tell FCStuido 2 to NOT look for certain audio filters(plugins) during the loading process?

You can use a free Audio Unit manager app (like AudioUnit Manager) or even better, use Jon Chappell's Plugin Manager tool (which is part of his excellent FCS Maintenance Pack)

  • Final Cut Studio HD problem with new Macbook Pro

I bought FCS HD and installed it onto my new Macbook Pro, but when I went to run Final Cut, it told me it was missing the graphics card. Now, the graphics card is different to my old laptop and G5, but surely the new macbook pro should be able to run my Final Cut Studio.
I was planning to buy the upgrade, not a whole new programme - now I am worried I will need to buy both an upgrade and Final Cut Studio 2.

This is a FCP HD, but no Final Cut Studio HD
My guess is that you are trying to run FCP 4.5 HD on an Intel Mac.
It isn't reliable even if you could install it.
You need FCS2 -- at the upgrade price.

  • I want to install Final cut studio 2 on Mountain Lion OS

I have Final cut studio 2 and upgrade of 3 and brought a new MacBook Pro 15" Retina with Mountain Lion. Also brought a USB Super Drive to install FCP. But not able to install. Is anyone has any idea how do I go from here?

You don't need to install FCS 2 before the upgrade to FCS 3. Just install the FCS 3 upgrade, it will prompt you for the FCS 3 serial number, then ask for the last full version serial number (which I assume will be your copy of FCS 2). Successfully entering those serial numbers will get FCS 3 working on your computer.
Once installed, run Software Update from the Apple menu to get FCS 3 updated to the last version.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 Impressions with HV20 and HDV Impressions

Ok, so I got FCS 2 up and running Monday evening. I took work off yesterday to watch all the tutorials and to play with all the new software. I got a good grip of Motion 3, FCP6 and Soundtrack. I didn't bother with DVD Studio Pro, and Color is confusing as all get out. I'll be focusing more time on Color this weekend since I hear I should probably read the whole manual.
The camera I'm currently using is a Canon HV20 which is an HDV camera. I've found that the cadence issue is still not resolved (not that Apple said they would, but in case anyone was wondering, it's all the same) and the drop frame issue during capture, especially batch capture, ALSO hasn't been resolved (again, not that Apple said they would).
If you're upgrading from FCP 5 to 6 thinking your HDV issues or HV20 issues will go away, you're mistaken. It's all exactly the same. Batch capture can be finicky and the cadence issue still needs you to either import through AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) OR you have to batch capture then export all your clips as AIC so you can remove each clip's interlaced frames. The resulting clips will be true 24p, and they look awesome for such a cheap camera. However, you have to figure out which process works best. I like logging and capturing if for no other reason just to be organized. However, with an HV20, importing the whole tape through AIC, removing the interlaced frames and then, within Final Cut, cutting up the scenes you need might actually take less time. It's up to you.
The silver lining comes in with the new software: Color. AIC tends to wash the image out just SLIGHTLY. It's not too noticeable, but it's definitely there. With Color, you can take your AIC'ed clips and tweak them to look as good (or better depending on how good you are) as the image would've looked had it come in via HDV codec. Of course, there's technicalities and there's still some quality loss no matter what, but Color is superbly powerful as my friend showed me.
ProRes codec isn't very good, IMHO. I imported some clips on my buddy's computer as ProRes and I even made some of my HDV clips at home with ProRes, and there seems to be a lot of artifacts especially around any movement in the scene. I actually don't like the codec at all. Maybe it's just me.
Otherwise, I really love FCP 6. The multi-codec timeline is pretty freakin fun, and I love some new interactions with Motion. Time tweaking is more approachable this time around through Motion AND Final Cut. It's fun to play with.
I found that smooth cam's a bit annoying. Even on an original imported clip that was only a minute long, the subclip that was only 20 seconds, took 10 minutes to analyze. I understand that it's analyzing the full clip, but Apple should figure out a way to have it simply analyze just the subclip in the timeline. Also, you have to know when to use smoothcam. There were a few tests I ran, and some resulted in BIZARRE movement and others the thing worked nicely after some tweaking. So be aware it's not something you can always fall back on.
That's all I can think of right off the bat. If you have questions or more comments, please post

I've found that the cadence issue
    is still not resolved
Well, I'm not a very technical person, so I'll explain this the best I can. The HV20 can record at 1080/24p. However, no matter what, it'll always record to tape in 60i, but it does so by recording 3 progressive frames and 2 interlaced frames. I'm not sure why, but that's how they figured how to do it. Which means, when you import it to the computer, it doesn't recognize your 24p as 24p, it sees it as 60i.
So now you have a few extra steps you have to accomplish. In order to do a reverse telecine on the sequence, you have to use Cinema Tools so you can take out the interlace frames and leave the progressive frames leaving you a true 24p sequence. But Cinema Tools can't do that to a strictly HDV encoded sequence, so you either have to import it from your camera using AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) or via HDV 60i which you then have to take those clips and turn them into AIC clips. When you capture using AIC, you can't batch capture, you have to capture chunks at a time, but when you capture using HDV you CAN batch capture (although it has some issues), but you then have to make those clips into AIC anyway.
Then you'd take the AIC clips, put them into Cinema Tools, figure out the Cadence of the clips (I(Interlaced)I_P(Progressive)_PP) etc and choose a reverse telecine setting which would then remove the interlace frames. This takes more time than one would like, and I was hoping FCP 6 might have dealt with that issue.
the drop frame issue during capture,
especially batch capture, ALSO hasn't been resolved
HDV cameras in general have problems in FCP it seems. When you try to batch capture, FCP says it can't find the right timecode even though there's no timecode breaks or anything. Frankly, when it tells you it can't find the right timecode, you simply tell it to look again and, oops, there's the right timecode. Not sure which end has the problem, but it's annoying.
This will help you with the Cinema Tools Cadence settings:
