How is picture quality when mini mac attached to plasma

I have an Apple TV attached to my 50" Pioneer plasma, but the main reason I got the Apple TV was to play play lists with music videos. Since Apple TV can't yet provide this, I'm interested in replacing with mini mac so I can use iTunes to play music video's continuously. But before I do, I just wanted to see if anyone out there knows how well the picture quality looks when attaching the mini mac via DVT to HDMI to plasma TV (in my case, a Pioneer 50" 1080i/720P). If anyone could give me some helpful advice or if there are any problems with this setup I'd gladly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Chris

So I tried playing music videos from a playlist continuously as you describe on my mini. It didn't work under Front Row but it did work from iTunes directly. I have heard that having the very latest version of iTunes and QuickTime installed corrects the limitation with Front Row, but I don't have them installed yet so I can't confirm that.
I am curious to know what is the limitation with AppleTV that doesn't allow this? It seems like it would work. What happens when you try? Do you have the latest version of QuickTime and iTunes on the Mac from which the AppleTV is streaming from?

  • X201: Picture quality when hooked up to a monitor

Is the picture quality equivalent to a desktop being hooked up to a monitor?
Machine Type: M90z AIO ; Product: 3091CTO (Custom), CPU: i5-650, Video Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics, Memory: 4.00 GB,
Network Card: Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN, OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

picture quality is related to the type of cable and type of connection you use. If you want the best quality image, get the X200 ultrabase, and connect to the monitor using the displayport.

  • New to 16x9 format, how get best quality when using standard dv footage?

If I am capturing standard NTSC dv footage, and adding standard dimension digital photos, what capture and sequence settings should I use to get best looking 16x9 output? I know I can export as 16x9 and burn a 16x9 DVD in DVDSP, but I was thinking I should capture and edit that way as well to get best quality.
Thus far, I've been editing everything as 4x3 and assuming the tv's these will be shown on will compensate, which is generally true. I would like, however, to give my clients the option of which output option is best for them.

So, a client would have to give me 16x9 raw footage for me to produce a true 16x9 DVD?
    Yes.
I know I can't produce HD DVDs, at least not cost effectively, and most people don't have players anyway.
Right. None of us can. The movies from the store or Netflix aren't HD. HD has no current relevance in DVD production (other than as acquisition formats).
I do want their footage to look as good as
possible on those large screen tvs.
If you produce a good DVD it will look good. All the other DVDs that are 4:3 are just that - 4:3. Same with 4:3 television. If they were produced well they should look great on any screen.
    1. I'm starting with DV NTSC raw footage, a low-res
    codec.
    OK.
    2. I'm compressing to MPEG-2 to be playable on an
SD-DVD player, a further low res codec.
OK. But you really mean "to be playable on a DVD player".
    3. Regardless of what I do, it's going to be
    low-res.
Regardless of what you do, the resolution is limited by current DVD technology. That is, in the NTSC world, 720x480 whether it's 4:3 or 16:9.
Does MPEG-2 always look crappy on an HDTV? On a 72dpi SDTV, it looks acceptable. Is there a workaround for HDTV?
Whether or not it looks crappy is subjective. If Hollywood-produced DVDs and SD television look great on it, then it's possible to make it look great.
Your real limitations - the ones you have control over, are:
    - quality of camera, glass, and related equipment
    - quality of lighting, audio, camerawork, production in general
    - recording format (DV ain't the greatest).
    - editing format (hint: you don't have to edit in DV)
    - quality of editing / editor
    - quality of MPEG2 encoding
In your case I think the last one is the most relevant. If you aren't getting acceptable results you may need to learn more about MPEG2 and Compressor.
BTW 72dpi is a print term, it has absolutely no meaning in video.
Further question, if I'm doing a photo slideshow, not DV footage, can I leave it uncompressed or will it convert to MPEG-2 and stink regardless?
To make a DVD movie it needs to be MPEG-2. That's the technology we have. But it doesn't have to stink. The MPEG-2 you use is the same MPEG2 the studios use with movie releases. The technology is the same, the difference is that they have people who really really know how to use it well.
There is a way to make actual slideshows from JPEGs which play from a DVD or CD. I know little about this, but I suspect that the resolution is still limited to 720x480. Someone will correct me if that's wrong. But you don't have to put them through MPEG2 compression.
You may benefit from finding out what 16:9 really means. All it means is that the display is wider. That's all. There is no implication of a quality increase, in fact from DVD playback the 16:9 picture will always appear a little softer than SD if viewed on a widescreen device. That's just the way it is.

  • How to maintain quality when converting back to imovieHD

Imovie08 has just sucessfully pushed me into my first forum EVER !
PLEASE can anyone tell me how to export back to the old version without loosing quality ? Drag & drop keeps bouncing back, import shows an error... "can't parse it: 43", & quicktime best quality H264 & mpeg4 are crap quality.
Have been working on this doco most of the year, decided (fooloishly) to load everything onto the new wizz bang 08, all footage is there, not a skerick on the old version. I need broadcast quality.
Where is William Tell when one needs him ?? Apple really should be shot for mangling such a great program !!

HA! same as the reviews - exactly why I haven't bought the new 08 -

  • How can i rename my Mini Mac

I have a older Mac Mini, and I have been using it for a few years, it was an older Company Computer, and I have started a New Company, am I able to change the Name of the computer, and remove the existing Mac Mini ID and add and re assign the name as my current company???  Could I please reach out to the forum and ask for help, to try to get thkis completed???  Thank you

The instructions in my previous post will change the name that appears on other computers that are connected to the network in the Shared section of the finder.  This is also the name that shows up on the sign in screen under the OSX logo.
To change the account name displayed where you sign in, go to System Preferences > Accounts and unlock the pane.  Then edit the Full Name field for the account.  You can also change the Password.  Be sure to lock the pane when you are done.
For more info you can click on the (?) button (lower right corner) on the Accounts or Shared panes in System Preferences

  • Losing picture quality when doing slideshows with Final Cut Pro

Whenever I put images in final cut and export them, the quality of the images look utter garbage. The pictures im taking are 2848X4288. Whatever Frame Size I make and whenver i Export them, the images doesnt look as sharp.
Could anyone suggest that I do something so I can keep the same quality of pictures?
    thanks!

I'd size them down in Photoshop, to match your sequence settings aspect ratio, or a bit larger if you want to zoom in/out or pan/scan.
You can adjust them to 72dpi for use in SD video...not sure about HD.

  • Picture quality when burning disc

When i burn a slideshow and view it on a tv the picture becomes very bright just before it move to the next slide. Any suggestions?

    Suggestions?
    Yes.
Don't use transitions in you iDVD slideshows. If you experiment, you will find some transitions are worse in this respect than others.
Create your DVD slideshows as movies in iMovie, iPhoro, (FotoMagico or Photo to Movie).

  • Did I lose the camera's picture quality when I updated to ios 5?

My photos now seem blurry and grainy.

I also noticed Bad photo quality after the upgrade. I have an iPhone4. The photos taken when it was iOS 4 look great. All new photos are terrible - grainy, low resolution junk. My video is the same way. My iPhone was my quick go-to camera, but now it's useless as a camera. And that was the single feature I wanted when buying this thing. Apple, are you listening?

  • How do I reboot my mini mac?

I recently bought a mini, set it up and then went to import certain files from old pc. It imported these and set up a duplicate user file for me. I want to erase all reboot and then connect the pc and import all files. Help!

Yes, you need to reinstall OS X:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Lose picture quality when I export from aperture

I have a trial version of Aperture that i have been playing with to see if I want to buy it. I imported photos from iphoto and cropped them in Aperture. They looked great. When I exported them (specifing size) the color was dulled and they were slightly blurry. This did not happen when I exported the Master. Any thoughts?

what is the color profile in aperture vs. the color profile on export vs. the color profile in the app your using after the export? the workflow should be well managed color profile working and exporting the photos.
    web profile: sRGB IEC61966-2.1
    printing: paper profile

exporting a Master and exporting a Version will give different results

  • How do I determine when my Mac was built?

I am trying to upgrade my older iMac to OSX 10.7
It appears that's as far as I can go with this older Mac. I bought the 'key' to upgrade (I got a pdf plus password)
but the link they gave doesn't seem to work although the password was accepted; the place they told me to go on the website
in the App store doesn't appear (i.e. neither "quick links" nor 'redeem', which they tell me will be shown
so I am stumped. Can anyone who has done it point me in the right direction? You can see I am not tecchie so it's
probably straightforward, but oh, so frustrating that I've wasted all morning looking and not finding. Argh!

Just in case, make sure your Mac meets v10.7 Lion's requirements >  System requirements for OS X Lion
Your Mac must be:  Intel Core 2 Duo
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
Open the App Store then select Categories from the menu top of the App Store window.
You should see a box on the right that says: Quick Links
    You can click Redeem there.

    Good Morning,
My computer is using Snow Leopard 10.6.5 and has ilife 09 installed on an imac. I have been reading it is better to use imovie 06. When I tried to do a custom install from the 06 disk imovie and idvd were grayed out but had a checkmark. It would not let me deselect idvd. Not really knowing how to do this I quite the process. Can you or someone please advise me on how and what exactly to do in order to accomplish a custom install of imovie 06? Should I delete imovie 09 first? If so how is this accomplished. Perhaps it would be less complicated to purchase photo to movie? Really do not want to spend unless it is necessary since I only know a little about what I'm doing but enough to be dangerous to my computer
