How Is Profile Manager Data Backed Up?

Hello,
I am new to Profile Manager and I like the mobile device managment features.
I can't seem to find any information on how the profiles are backed up.
When using Workgroup Manager, my settings were backed up in Open Directory and then replicated to  secondary server I had set up as a replica. Does anyone know how Profile Manager Data is backed up?
Thanks,
Ray

Profile Manager data is stored in PostgreSQL. If you use Time Machine, the databases are dumped every 24 hours. If you don't use Time Machine, you can manually dump the devicemgr database in case you need to restore in the future.

  • How do I get data back on my Numbers created inventory that was supposedly removed by spotlight?

How do I get data back on my Numbers created inventory that was removed by Spotlight recently?  It seems to have happened after upgrading.

Thanks for your reply.  Unfortunately when I click on "revert to" it shows no document.  It's very strange that the rest of my old inventories on numbers remain.  It is only my 2014 entries that went into a black hole somewhere.  When I click on my inventory pages it says: "OS X spotlight search information was removed."  It seems to have occurred after I recently updated Numbers.  I never did anything to have it removed and never got any kind of warning to my knowledge that it was about to be removed.  Very frustrating!

Welcome to the Apple Community Rahul.
    Photos in photo stream...
You can log into your iCloud account on another computer or device and enable photo stream to see your photos. You should do this as soon as possible because photo stream in the cloud only keeps photos for 30 days and each day you delay, you will lose another days photos.
    Photos in the camera roll...
If you kept a back up of your device you can use it to restore to a replacement device, this will restore all of the photos in your camera roll and isn't time limited.

  • SoundTrak Crashed!! How I got my data back.

If you get the beachball during a record, by what could be the screen saver kicking in or the disk drive going to sleep (all of which should be disabled to start with), then you might get a file which shows size and a good time of creation, but it won't play or show a waveform. In fact even Audacity won't touch it.  Here's how to recover the data. Hopefully you know your settings you were using, aka 48khz, 44.1 etc.  For the sake of this post, I used 24bit 44.1khz AIFF sample rescue information.  Bear with me.
First locate your bad file in the soundtrak pro recordings folder. Duplicate it. Note its size. Take the copy and get it to the desktop. Do not muck with the original.
Download the 0xED (thats the name) hex editing app.  You can also have a dupe file of a working file from an earlier session. Your going to want to copy it as well and put it on your desktop. You'll need the header info from it.
Open your known good file wih 0xED. Highlight and copy from the beginning of that file address 0000000 thru 0000FF7 with a contrl C on the keyboard.
Open your bad file copy. They can both be opened at the same time.  Highlight those same addresses and contrl V that data into your bad file.  Pay close attention thats all you changed. Nothing should have shifted anywhere else. If you screwed up, cntrl Z out of that and try it again until it looks like a clean paste. Yes the data is going to be different in your paste operation as thats why your file is hosed to begin with. Hopefully you just now patched your file.  SAVE the potential repaired file using the save icon in 0xED. Open our repaired file
with Audacity, or SoundTrak Pro. You should have a workable file now.  If not, go back and try again as perhaps you messed something up or didnt save the repair properly.  Its crucial you use data from a good file of the same settings to fix the bad one. If your not sure of the settings you used, try a couple possibilities. Most people use the same settings with only a few variations so your choices should be few hopefully. NOTE: To test your file, close out all instances of the bad file in Sountrak Pro or your new file won't chck out if it is indeed fixed. DO a fresh load of your new file into a freshly started Sountrak Pro or Audacity.
What else have I used? I used SoundHack a few times. Its a bit strange and clunky. The results are hard to nail down. I ended up with a file that played like MickeyMouse but I was able to use Audacity to cut the speed down by 50% and save the audio.
The problems I encountered to get me to this point were as described in the beginning of this write up. I had the beachball. One time Sountrak just quit without warning. Again, the data was there but just wasnt closed out properly.
I hope this saves someone from a disaster. It saved me. I never gave up.
    cheers
    Johnny
P.S.  Here's the data for an AIFF 44.1k 24 bit good file if it can be of use. You'd want to place it right over your bad file in 0xED. No guarantees. Make sure your muckng with a copy and NOT your original file...... (yes thats 4C twice, thats not a misprint)

  • Archive and Install: How to get my data back?

I did an archive/install to resolve a "computer not going to sleep" issue. It did resolve the issue but now I want my data back. I see it is all probably in the folder titled: Previous Systems. How do i get things into this new install (such as my addresses, photo's, calendar, email boxes etc.)? Thanks in advance...Karen

You should copy and put things in selectively. You know how file systems work, yes? There is a home folder, and in this folder there will be a documents folder, a library folder, a photos folder, etc. I would suggest you open these folders in your previous system, find the files you want, and thene copy and paste them into the new Leopard home folder.
Think of it like moving into a new apartment. Sure, you might have a little more space, but do you really need to take that fishing tackle set you got at work from your secret Santa? Do you ever fish? No! And you sure as heck don't want to take the heater with you . . . it might not even work in the new place, and how would you hook it up? (the heater is a metaphor for the system files like those in "library")
Also, when you get to the new place (the new Leopard system) you want to make sure everything is in it's right place. A good way to do that is to look and see where it was stored at the old place (galoshes are right by the door, next to the coat rack - same thing in the new place).
Okay, I think I'm going overboard with the metaphor.
    Do you dig?

  • Lost some apps after syncing/restoring, how to get lost data back?

I updated the firmware of my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5.1 yesterday. After the update, I noticed that I have lost all of my contacts on the phone, so I plugged it back in to the computer and went with "Restore from backup", which was dated just a few hours prior to updating the firmware.
After it finished restoring, my contacts were all back but half of my apps are missing. I tried redownloading from the App Store as well as syncing from the computer, but the data (game saves, etc) are still missing. How do I get them back?

It's still listed there, dated around 5 hours before I updated. I right-clicked on my iPhone and chose "Restore from backup" and they still weren't there.
Most of the apps that I lost were downloaded within the last 6 months, but the apps that remained contained data that are up to date (to just before the update).
In other words, half of my apps are up to date while the rest are completely missing their data.

  • How does Profile Manager work?

I am having a heck of a time getting Profile Manager to be consistant.
The way I have gathered is that the data is stored int the postgresql data base and pushed to the client computers.
The problem I am seeing is that the data that is pushed is not always the same.  I want the login window to show my family members (network users) and then mount the groups share when logging in.  I also have a small welcome note on the login screen.  I also have parental controls on the kids accounts.  The computer seems to pull or push the date to the Managed Prefrences folder in the Library folder of the client computer and the client will use this data for its settings.  It seems to do it at log in and log out.  I can delete the prefrences and they are rebuilt quickly.
My main problem is that the rebuilt prefrences are not always correct and not consistant between pushes.  Is this a certificate error?  I doubt it since I just rebuilt the server.  I am using a self signed certificate and using my appleID to get a push certificate.  Could it be some other error?  What should I be looking for in the logs?  I have tried most of the soultions that I have run accross on the forums but none have solved this inconsistancy.
    Thanks
    David

I am still having this issue.  I have given up on the parental controls and am using the WGM.  It works for that at least.
For the login window I look at the com.apple.loginwindow.plist under Managed Prefrences folder and it looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

What causes it to change?  what is the string in the deny list.  I do have one user that I dont want showing up on the screen.  could this be the user GUID?  Where is the client computer pulling the information to overwrite the correct file?  Why is it doing this?  Please Help.

  • How to Create & Manage data slices easily?

    Hi All,
We have lots of Business units; everyone works independent to each other, so they might be in different versions at any point of time.
My requirement is to lock all previous versions, should allow them to work on current version.... so it should be a combination with Business Unit and Version.
    For ex:
Business Unit 100 has current version 5
Business Unit 200 has current version 3
Business Unit 500 has current version 15
So how can I create simple data slice to manage every business unit with their respective versions locked.
After reading some of the threads:
I considered creating data slice for each Business unit but we have 45 units.. with one VERSION customer exit variable to populate the variable from my ztable.
I want to know more about how to use exit class? (CL_RSPLS_DS_EXIT_BASE)
Will that help me much better than what I have considered above?
OR any better way to tackle my problem?
    Thanks in advance
    Guptha

    Hi,
I think here a simple exit data slice implementation would work. No variables would be needed at all. A feature often overlooked is the 'is_overlapping' method. Here one will get the filter of the planning function, query before the 'is_protected' method is called per record. So when the query / planning function is called the method 'is_overlapping' is called. Here one can read the Z-table with the allowed business unit, version combinations allowed to plan. This Z-table can be read using the restrictions form the filter (i.e. i_tsx_selder table or call seldr_to_range to get a easier to consume range table). Buffer the result in an internal table.
In the 'is_protected' implementation simply lookup the internal table records and decide whether the records is protected or not.
Using the 'is_overlapping' method on can set R_IS_OVERLAPPING = rs_c_false if the filter of the planning / function query has not non-empty intersection with the Z-table. Then the system will not call the is_protected method at all.

  • How can I get data back that is in the trash?

I don't seem to be able to retreive clips or other data that end up in the trash. When I click on the trash icon contained in the app I am only given the option of Cancel or Empty. Is that it? Once the data is in there it's gone? Thanks.

iMovie 4 trash is a sort of virtual trash in that there isn't really a location where things are put (like your system trash) but instead a representation of how much stuff you cut out of your project. If you click empty (and never due that in iMovie 4 as there is a bug that sometimes trashes your project) what happens is iMovie rewrites all the media files to get rid of the stuff you clipped or deleted.
So there are ways to get your stuff back. One way is to select any clip and pick the restore option which will reset the clip back to the way it was before you made cuts. The downside of this is that you lose all your edits on that clip and have to redo them over if the one you wanted to undo is several edits back.
You might try this instead. Assuming your clips are all off the clip shelf and now down on the timeline, grab all the clips on the timeline, hold down the OPTION key and then drag them all back to the Clip Pane. As you drag up there while holding the OPTION key, you should see a green circle with a ( + ) in it. This means you are making a COPY to the shelf, not moving them. Drop them on the clip shelf. Now select clips on the shelf and do a restore on them from that location. I think this will let you restore the clips to their original size on the shelf while the ones on the timeline will remain untouched. Hopefully you will find what you lost.
In the future, the best way to edit in iM4 to avoid this sort of thing is to import all your clips normally onto the clip shelf on the upper right side. Now rather than dragging them down to the timeline (removing them from the clip shelf) and editing them, OPTION drag them to the timeline which will make a copy to the timeline rather than a move. Don't worry about drive space. When you make copies, they are not real copies (the media files are not duplicated) but instead just additional virtual copies, so you can make as many as you want with very little impact on drive space.
Now you can edit to your heart's content on the timeline and if you ever make a mistake or need to get back a piece of clip you deleted, the full copy remains safe and unedited up and over on the clip shelf. You can always drag down additional copies if you need to get back footage or if you want to use the same footage more than once.

  • Hard Dive spoiled - How to get the data back on iTunes ?

    Dear All,
my hard drive is spoiled and so I have only the data on my Ipod Nano 2GB and IPOD Video 80GB. How can I get the Data on the new Itunes?
    Thanks a lot

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
