How is the Contacts saved/organized/searched???

Hi guys,
now when u want to look for a contact in ur phonebook, u either start typing in the search bar, scroll down to the name or use the Index on the right...
now how does the iPhone search for them??
when i type: will it show depending on last name or first name or anything that works??
when i use the Index on the right: the letters represent the first name or last name of the contact??
hope u got my question
Thx

You get to choose whether your iPhone displays names like this:
Lastname, Firstname
... or like this:
Firstname, Lastname
It will then display all of your contacts that way. When you "flick" the screen up or down or use the A-Z scoller at the right edge, it's simply moving up and down that sorted list.
When you use the search feature (magnifying glass) it will look through all the first and last names and company names. Nothing else about your contacts is searchable.

How do I change the e-mail address default on the icloud without losing the contacts saved?

Each iCloud account can only have a single iCloud email account.  As such, you can't have a different email account on your iPod if it is using the same iCloud account.
You can create additional alias email addresses within this iCloud account, but they will all receive email in the same inbox as the primary icloud email address.

  • How to export contacts saved in OVI suite 3.0.0.29...

    Hi All,
Please I am in a great disaster and I will appreciate any help from anyone.
my problem is as follows :-
I was having Nokia N97 mobile and I am now having OVI suite 3.0.0.290 installed on my laptop, the problem is that I was synchronizing contacts between mobile and OVI suite only and the option selected in syncing contacts options is "Don't Sync" and not Microsoft outlook"" and not "microsoft outlook express".
The problem now is that my mobile was stolen and when I opened OVI suite without connecting my N97 stolen mobile I found the contacts there and I can edit and manage anyone of them as much as I can but I can't export them out of OVI suite.
So does anyone have the knowledge on how to export the contacts saved on OVI suite without connecting the mobile to it?
    your help is appreciated

First activate microsoft outlook and then do acoording to following link

  • How change the sort order of searched items so last search item shows first. I DO NOT mean the order of search engines, but existing searches by down arrow key

I want to be able to change the sort order of items I have already searched for in the search box. I want to be able to hit the down arrow key and see my previous searches in the order of last search showing first. At the moment I have no idea how it is sorting and it's very annoying to have to re-type a query I typed 5 minutes earlier but because I typed in another 10 since it is lost somewhere in the list. Can this be done, I have googled but did not find the topic anywhere. Just to clarify, I DO NOT MEAN the order of search engines (which is all that comes up in google), I mean the actual text typed in which has been saved in the drop down list.
    Thanks

The "form fill" feature uses a "frecency" algorithm, frequency + recency, similar to the address bar autocomplete list.
I found an extension that seems relevant, but the reviews are old so I'm not sure it's still working: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/searchbar-autocomplete-order/ Searchbar Autocomplete Order].
But... is the autocomplete not working? I would expect that typing a couple characters of the earlier query would filter the list so you can easily select it? Or is the problem that the list doesn't remember enough searches for that?

  • I have set up iTunes and iCloud with my iPhone 4S but have not been able to get information from the manual for transferring contacts from Microsoft Office Outlook to my phone contacts.  Is this possible and, if so, how are the contacts transferred?

I have set up iTunes and iCloud with my computer and my iPhone 4S but have not been able to determine whether contacts on Microsoft Office Outlook can be transferred from the pc computer to the phone.  Is transfer possible using iTunes or iCloud or other method to transfer the contacts.  If so, what are the steps for making the transfer successful.

  • I used to use a a nokia but i bought an iPhone5. How can I save the contacts saved in the sim card to my iPhone?

It's really important since I can't save all my about 300 contacts again.

    Several possibilities:
Transfer them from the Nokia SIM to your computer (you can get an adapter that will allow the SIM to be read by your computer). Then import them into a contacts app on your computer, and sync it to your iPhone.
Ask your carrier to transfer them to an flash drive, then import into an app on your computer.
Ask your carrier to copy the Nokia SIM to a nano SIM like the iPhone uses. Temporarily put it in the iPhone, then go to Settings/Import Contacts from SIM.
Carefully cut down the Nokia SIM so it fits the iPhone and use the import function mentioned.

  • How is the iPhoto Library organized

I apologize if this topic has been covered - point me to earlier discussions if appropriate.
I'm curious about the filing scheme in the iPhoto Library. When I look in the Finer in the Library I see that there are folders by year, and within those folders are subfolders, and sometime sub-subfolders, identified (named) with numbers (eg 8, 12,15). The subfolder numbers do not begin with 1, and thought sequential there are gaps in the numbering. How does iPhoto decide what folders to create and what to put in each folder? There doesn't seem to be much rationale?
Also, one of the folders in each year (buried down a few layers) is Orginals - which seems to have the original versions of images I modified. How to I access those Orginals within the iPhoto (v 2) program?
    Thanks much everyone.
    Jim

Hi, Jim. A correction to my prior post: Pictures aren't filed by the date on which they were imported; they're filed by their "last modified" dates.
Brie will correct me if I'm wrong about this, but I don't think there's any simple way to determine within iPhoto (v. 4 or earlier, anyway — I've never used any later version) whether an image has been altered or not. You have to look into the Finder file hierarchy to determine that, and it isn't very easy. Every image you've edited in iPhoto remains right where iPhoto put it initially, but as soon as you edit it, a *copy of the original, unedited image* is stored in an Originals folder in the same location as the edited image. So the way to figure out which images have been edited is to look in the Originals folder within the day-month-year folder to which a given group of pictures was imported, and compare the filenames of the images stored within the Originals folder with the filenames of those stored outside it, in the same enclosing Day folder. The images for which there are no copies within the Originals folder are unaltered from when they were first imported into iPhoto. The ones for which there are copies in the Originals folder have been altered, and the altered versions of those pictures are the ones outside that folder. That's all clear enough. What's much more confusing is that the originals of pictures you haven't altered are NOT in the Originals folder — they're loose outside it.
If you aren't thoroughly bewildered yet, I can keep working on you. ;o) But in sum, iPhoto's storage habits are strange and arcane enough that most people never bother trying to understand them, and even those who study of them ultimately find it doesn't do them much good. iPhoto is completely inflexible about these arrangements, so if you want your pictures stored in a folder hierarchy you can readily understand and manipulate yourself, iPhoto is the wrong application for you to be using. I have eight separate iPhoto Libraries for different groups of pictures, and of the roughly 100,000 pictures I've stored in all, only a third are in any of those libraries. The rest are filed according to my own needs and preferences, in Finder folder hierarchies of my own design, and I manage them using other applications. iPhoto is a convenient tool for managing my less important images.

  • How does the contact syncing work?

I am a little confused about the syncing process. I currently have exactly the same contacts on my iphone 4 as in my address book on my macbook. If I have the automatic syncing of contacts selected via itunes, which way do they sync?
If I put a new contact on my phone will it be wiped and my contacts revert to whats in the address book?
Or does it work the other way, my address book reverts to what iv got on my iphone?
Or do they merge and not delete anything? If they merge, do they combine an individual's details, ie an email address on my mac and that same person's mobile number under the same name on my iphone merge into one contact profile?
    Thanks

Are you aware if this is bidirectional syncing for iCal Events created on the iPhone 4 using iTunes 10. I have seemed to have lost this functionality, or maybe I am just not aware that it is occurring?

  • When backing up your iTunes music, how are the files saved?

I am planning to upgrade from 10.3 to 10.4 and don't want to lose all of my music. From what I can tell I have 2 options I can either use a CD (my ibook does not have a DVD-RW, but a DVD) or an external drive. My library size including the podcasts total 6.4GB. Should I just use the external drive or just back them up on CD's?

    Hi Anthony.
Just to confirm and elaborate a bit on what Diane has already said...
I just backed up my iTunes Library on disk recently (I don't have an external drive yet) and it took quite some time. I had about half of what you've got and I used 15 disks. Not to mention, I guess they will do in a pinch but I've been told that the quality just doesn't make the transition very well.

  • I lost all of the contacts and photos on my iPhone after accidentally restoring it to my iPod's data, is there a way to get back that info?

I just got a new iPhone and it had not been backed up on my computer until now.  Are the contacts saved elsewhere?  It seems as though all of the stuff saved on my iPhone has been replaced with all of the stuff saved on my iPad touch, even the tabs I had open in Safari!  I can't find the back up of the stuff originally on my iPhone.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Most intelligent people would not store such sensitive data on a device that could so easily be lost, stolen, or damaged.  Even if they chose to do so, they would use the device as designed and regularly sync and backup that device as described in the User's Guide.
Have you done so?  If you have, all of the data is either in iCloud or iTunes on your computer.  Replace the device and restore the new iDevice with the backup of the old one.

You could check settings > mail contacts and calandars and see if there are any accounts (like icloud gmail yahoo) listed and if they have contacts on. Its possible if contacts were synced to one of these accounts that turning them back on will recover the missing contacts.

I had this problem too, I fixed it by going to my settings and under general at the bottom there is a reset option, go there. One of the options should be reset network settings, select that one. I’m not sure why it happens but that worked for me; hope you have the same luck!
