How is the dust / light leak issues now? New batches?

So its been a little while since the intro of the iPhone 3G. And lots of new batches of iPhones are floating around. I've had problems with 8 phones now with eitehr dust or most recently Light leaking from the left side.
To those who just got their phones within the last week, have you experienced any of these problems?

I swapped out last night at an Apple store for a new phone as I had dust showing up under the screen as described. I've also linked it to a poor seal on the left side of the phone. The first replacement the "genius" brought me had a much bigger gap by the seal and the light leak was apparent even in the store, the second I could not see the leak / gap until I tested it at home in a dark room. So, I expect dust will show up again. The Apples store was out of replacement phones for over a week until yesterday, so either they got a transfer of a batch of defective units from another store or the problem has still not been addressed, which would be unfortunate.
Has anyone found a way to seal up the gap? I tried pressing the seal in place with a thin edge, but it did not help. I'm expecting that a drop of water in there on a rainy day will do far more damage than a speck of dust.

Does anyone know how well the Intel Iris Pro installed on new 15" MacBook Pros performs using Photoshop and Lightroom?  I have seen some differing opinions out there, and I would rather not shell out the extra cash for the Nvidia if I don't have to. I mostly do photo editing for business and personal use. I have not used the 3D function in Photoshop, but I would like to know that I could.

  • I have an airport express...i set it up some time ago, and it worked fine so long as the green light was on. now all i get is a flashing amber. i have it plugged into the wall, i have a usb cord from printer to airport express...now it won't turn green.

how do i set up this airport express. it worked now doenst. blinking amber light all the time. the note says the
express is not connected to the internet. how do i get it to do so?
    thanks

If everything seems to be working OK, but the amber light is blinking, this might be a signal that there is an update available for the AirPort Express.
Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup, then click directly on the word Status to check for messages.
If the printer is not working, I suggest that you perform a Factory Default Reset to get the Express back to new, out of box settings. Then, you can reconfigure the device again as needed.

  • How do i fix light leaks in my photos?

i have a light leak in my camera and my last roll of film has come out with lots of red stripes over the images, is there a plugin i can use for aperture to repair the photos? or any other suggestions would be great! thank you

If you find a way to fix it by brushing in a curves adjustment that reduces the remand perhaps increase the contrast along the red stripes, you can save the adjustment as a preset. For photos taken with the same lens or zoom the light leak pattern will probably the same, so you start with the same preset.
To save an adjustment use the "effects" menu in the Adjustment panel:

  • Cleaning the Dust! Performance Issues

Lately my eMachine T3265 desktop PC has started running really slowly.  It's about four years old.  I've been told it could be a number of things:  RAM, processor or simply that there are too many dust bunnies living inside and it needs to be cleaned.  Because the dust bunnies are something I can probably handle on my own, I'm wondering what's the best way to clean the machine..... Once I've disconnected everything and have taken it outside, should I take the cover off and spray the entire INSIDE with air OR do I just simply spray the vents, fans, connections from the outside.
I might not want to tackle this on my own.  So if I do decide to take this to the Geek Squad to handle, what additional things can they do as far as cleaning that I can't do on my own AND how much is that service?  What are the pros of letting them do it?  Also, do I need to bring it into a store or is this a service that is also provided in-home?
    Thank you!

wow u really like doing colors.
cleaning out dust is pretty easy. there's no "official way" to do it.
    1) if it's REALLY dusting, this is what i usually do. get a vaccuum cleaner. get the thinest hose u have with the vaccuum. suck up all the dust first.
    2) get those air can thing. they are high pressure but don't worry, your computer component is solder on the board so nothing will come lose
    3) while u're blowing the dust off inside the computer, use the same vaccuum cleaner to suck up all the dust that's flying off, because once u blow it off from one location, it'll just land on another location. so use the vaccuum to suck up the air borne dust.
    and viola u're done!
or go buy a leaf blower. one blow, every dust will come off :-D (<---- do not attempt, cuz u'll probably rip everythign else apart too)
u said it was emachine right? im guessing low memory. u can try updating the memory. u'll be surprise adding another gig of memory can boost system performance. you got the emachine so i guess when you got the computer it was built barely enough to run the operating system.
if your not comfortable, u can bring ur computer in for 1) hardware diagnostic 2) optimization. sometimes hardware deteoriation cause computer to slow down too. heat can cause the parts to go bad. so the hardware diagnostic can actually detect if something is wrong.
optimization allows geeksquad to completely clean out your computer. software-wise. clean up the junk, tweak your registry, shut down unnecessary program that are running in the background. that will free up some memory for you to do other stuff.

  • Anyone else have Light Leaks on their new 27inch iMacs?

I just received my custom 27inch imac a couple days ago, and found some subtle light leaking on the lower left hand corner about the size of my fist, and a much smaller one on the lower right side corner. The lower left side is most noticeable when the screen is dark. Is this occuring with anyone else and what choices do I have with this?

Hi guys. Custom 27" iMac, same thing.
Lower left corner whiteish on dark screen, less but still visible on the right lower corner.
I think that unfortunately it is a "normal" thing. IPS screens seem to be like this, and if you notice it, on a dark screen if you move your view angle, it turns almost white. LCD is not a perfect technology yet, and even if it is hard to say after spending all those money on a computer, I have to admit that (especially on such a big display) it is fairly normal.
Therefore, if you ask for a repleace, you might get the same problem, or the same problem with some dead pixels on top of it.
I'm not going to ask for it, even if I know how frustrating is to notice that what is sold for perfection is not.

  • BAPI_GOODSMVT_CREATE - How do I get this to create a new batch ?

I am calling this BAPI :     BAPI_GOODSMVT_CREATE and not passing any value in the batch field
(GOODSMVT_ITEM-BATCH) and am expecting a new batch number to be created.   This is not the case, the BAPI is proposing a batch number (finding one via MSEG) and erroring due to this.
Is there any flag or config to indicate 'create new batch'

  • Light leak on the screen...

I have a week 38 build...got this on 21 September...i noticed recently that i have very slight light leak on top right corner of the screen...very very faint you cant resly tell unless i point somone...i wonder if its a defect...does it even quilify for replacement?

most lcd with backlighting will have the light leak, but not all of them. If you had a monitor, turn off all the light in the dark and see if you have them. My HP 23 inch widescreen HD monitor also has a light leak on all sides when the screen is black and in the dark room but if I am watching a movie or something then I don't even notice the light leak.
Now If you have it set to full brightness you definitely may notice the light leak. While in a low brightness, you won't notice.
Now if you think it's bothering you then it's your decision to replace it or not.

  • Light leak (bleeding) theory sponge gasket around lcd panel . Apple fix?

    Hi
been looking at the light leak issue crop up on the forums and this may have already been suggested.
But if you look at the ifixit teardown and the part of them lifting up the digitser:
    http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/OtgrusGS6MXm5tMA.huge
You can see apple chose to use a sponge gasket around the display right on the LCD bezels edge!
now anyone whos worked with laptops repairing them (myself) and has fitted a raw LCD panel knows that any pressure on the LCD steal bezel will cause the backlight to bleed through, much like if you pressed an uncoverd LCD screen with your finger.
Now whats to say this sponge gasket isnt doing the same? soon as they stick the glass to the back plate the gasket puts pressure on the LCD, If so it could be easy fixed by a softer gasket/setting it further back or maybe ditching it and blocking dust from outside at the openings!
Just a theory what you guys think?

  • Windpad 110W Tablet LCD light leak and dead pixels

    Hello,
I've just received the 110W tablet (I'm in the USA) and the LCD exhibits what I'll call light leak, where the backlight leaks or bleeds through so that when viewing a dark background you can see white light around the perimeter of the display.  The white light is in blotches and shows up around the display in various places.  My tablet most noticeably shows light leak on the left side of the display.  Has anyone else had this problem with their Windpad tablets?
I've seen this in several other tablets I've had (Eee Transformer, Xoom FE), and it may just be something we live with, but I'd like to get your feedback before I return it to find the replacement exhibits the same light leak problem.
Also, how about dead pixels?  Mine has a dead (always black) pixel up at the top of the display which doesn't really bother me at all.  Again, I'm just looking for your experience with these issues.
    Thanks!

Interesting that you would return it for the dead pixel.
Absolutely, on a screen this size it would be very annoying. I have only ever had a dead pixel at work and made them change it.
I have no idea what MSI's dead pixel policy is  though so that may affect whether you can return it or not.

  • Light Leak Defect in Northern Virginia Phones

There has been much discussion of the "light leak" issue on these boards. On the left side of the phone, between the bezel and the black o-ring, light from the screen escapes -- and dust and moisture can get inside.
In the past two weeks, I've had 5 phones, from 3 different Northern Virgina Apple stores, all with this problem. Most recently, a Specialist opened 3 brand new boxes for me, all having the light leak defect.
I was told that the light leak was "within the acceptable tech specs", and told they couldn't open up more than three new phones for me in one visit -- was told I'd have to go back to another store, and probably would have to settle for a refurbished "warranty" phone.
So, first a warning to those condidering purchasing a new iPhone -- look out for this problem before you leave the store.
Second, a question for the forum: What are the practical harms of this defect? Can dust and moisture get inside and damage the phone?

    Hi Arturo Bandini,
I too had the same problem with my iPhone 3G. There was quite a large gap where the rubber was not sealed properly. A spec of dust got under the screen. It was literally the only thing I could stare at while using the phone.
I scheduled a Genus Bar appointment and got a new phone. The new phone, luckily, is not defective.
As others have mentioned, I do not believe that this is "within the technical specs". This is a big issue and I advise that you try to keep finding one that is not defective.
Out of all my friends and family with both second and first gen iPhones, I am the only one that has gotten one with the light leak issue. I think it's an unusual case for 5 phones, in a row, to have it.
Sorry and best of luck on finding one that is 100% up to your standards.

  • Overheating Problem dv6, help getting the dust out.

For a while now my Dv6 laptop has had a problem with over heating. It's around over 6 months old. Its continually getting hotter.
Now I figure it's the dust, as it is in a high dust environment, my desk I have it on constantly has a layer of dust on it no matter how many times I clean it. I do not currently have a cooling pad. (dv6 notebook)
What I want to do is clean out the dust from inside. Now I'm not an expert and I've never done it before, It looks kind of complicated to get the screws out etc. I found a guide on the net which seems good at taking it off but I'm not sure (http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=226910).
What I would like to know is:
    1) Is there an official step by step guide or an equivelent guide I can follow.
    2) Is there anything I need to know, not to do, to do, before/during taking the case off and cleaning ( what not to touch what not to unscrew etc)
    3) How many cans of compressed air would I need to fully clean it.
    4) Anything else I would need to know before attemping to clean it
Also I had a problem with a sort of rattling/loud humming, sound comming from the left side, can't determine wether its the harddrive or fan. It is an intermittent sound, it normally starts up when I turn on the laptop, but ends up stopping sometime later.
Any and all help is very welcome.

hello.i was same problem.i solve it like this.i was put adesive band at all holes except cpu cooling hole.i put in a vacuum machine and i let it work almost two minutes.i got no promblem until then.a cheap solution without need to dezansamble hole notebook and loose the warranty
