How is your cpu temp?

Hi, I just bought a new MacBook in HongKong, with 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo 2 CPU and 2G mem. It works fine.
But when I use iStat to monitor the temp. of CPU, it's at least 55-60C. If I use macports to install something and when some package is being compiled, the temp. reached 82C...
I really worry about it. how about yours?

while it may seem hot, i think that maximum temperature for mobile core duo is 100°,if your peak are at 80° you are okay I guess.

• How to display CPU temp in taffybar?

I am using xmonad with taffybar.
Recently I found out that I can find out the CPU temperature from taffybar like this:
import System.Information.CPU2

However, I cannot find out a widget to display this quantity.
Do someone know such a widget?

• X220 - What's your CPU temp under load?

Running SC2 for a few minutes and my CPU was sitting at 92 C consistently (i5 2520). Yikes!
What temperatures are you getting under load?
43C idle.

no not really, it seems the problem only came after the recent BIOS update. I will have a look at this issue when i have more time on my hand.
When running on battery saver mode, the temperature drops to 45 degrees, which is good as this is the setting i use most of the time.
P.S. The ambient temperature in Australia is more than 30 degrees celsius, so that could also contribute to the issue of overheating.

• System Tray CPU Temp Monitor Program

Good afternoon all, as I'm getting more and more settled into my new system I'd like to keep a close eye on some temperatures as I increase clocks.
I've gone through the downloads board and looked at a few of the mentioned utilities - one notable one that I recognized was Speedfan. I've used this in the past, and I have also used CPUTEMP - which was quite good.
What I'm looking for is something I can easily monitor from my system tray. Ideally I'd also like to get another program to monitor my GPU temperatures and have that on the system tray too.
TL;DR
Are there any member favourite utilities out there that you'd recommend for monitoring your CPU temps (that possibly have the minimize to system tray feature)?
How about some of your favourite utilities that do the same thing buy for your MSI GPU? (I could post this in another board - but maybe I can kill two birds here)
Note: I'm looking for something lightweight that doesn't require a ton of configuration/setup.
Thanks again guys - always appreciate the kind/helpful responses.

The latest evolutions of command center work quite well and have a desktop app I believe like cpu temp. (Which is what I used when I was overclocking more)
HW monitor is another goto app I have used many times in the past.

• Can a bubble in thermal paste make CPU temp range 39ºC-60ºC?

Hello.
I've read the postits above and they say 45 ºC idle is very likely the heatsink spreader is not properly seated or the temperature is wrong.
But, what if idle temp is about 39 on the heatsink (meassured with a termometer) and the bios says CPU temp is 39? Does that mean I did well with thermal paste and heatsink? Does that mean the motherboard is reading the righ temperature?
It could look like I am asking a very easy question, but I feel it is not. Just go on reading.
I need to know if BIOS does actually provide the rigth temp because:
When the system heats up due to CPU under heavy load, CPU temp goes up to 50-55 ºC sometimes even close to 60 ºC. Could that mean there is an air bubble within the thermal paste but it is too small to interfere when cold enough (40ºC) but big enough when warm (50ºC) lowering heatsink performance and rising CPU temp up to 60 ºC?
Also sys temp is very high. It never gets below 50 ºC but I do not know where that sys temp is taken, and as I have the NB-fan connector conected to the power supply fan, I do not know what that sys temp means. :(
Room temp is around 25 ºC.
It does boot OS and I can actually play games (heavy load for graphics card and CPU). All readings I take were got from CoreCenter application at stock settings (Vcore 1.42 - FSB 201 - Mem volt 2.5 - AGP volt 1.5).
I am afraid of having done a nice job with thermal paste. I know (just read it here) I could easily fry the CPU if not, and I feel 55-60 ºC is too much, isn't it? Of course if BIOS readings are right.
BTW. Here follow details on the system:
CPU: AMD 64 3000+ NewCastle
CPU Family/Model/Step: 15.12.0
Thermal compound: Artic Silver 5
CPU Heatsink: Thermaltake Silent Boost K
Motherboard: MSI K8N Platinum
Motherboard BIOS: 1.4 (08/26/2004)
Graphics Card: Sapphire ATI Radeon 9800 SE AIW (not modded in any way)
Power Supply: Enermax 465 W [EG-465AX-VE(W)FMA]
Case: Lian Li PC-V1000
Mem, hdd, dvd-rw, floppy and D-bracket are present but did not feel necesary to provide details on them.
Thanks

Well, if your heatsink is cold and your CPU temp on BIOS is hot there are two possible reassons:
BIOS 1.4 does not guarantee accurate CPU temp readings
Heatsink is not properly seated on the CPU or thermal paste has bubbles within
But that is not my situation. I do know CPU readings are accurate when it shows 39 ºC because I actually used a termometer in contact with the heatsink to meassure it.
What I am not sure is if that accuracy is so when the CPU is hot (>50ºC) as it is when cold (

• What are some of your system temps?

Hey all.
Out of curiosity, I was wondering if you all could post your System temps and your CPU temps.   I am running Folding @Home now 24/7 and I just want to compare some of yours with mine to make sure I am doing ok.
I just got a new case and installed an 80mm exhaust fan in the top center, another 80mm exhaust towards the top on the back of the case, a 120mm intake in the front panel, and have another 80mm intake in the center of the side panel.
Before I was Folding the idle temp for CPU was 109F.  42C.
Idle SYSTEM temp was 98F.  36C.
Now that I am Folding the CPU is always at full load so now my temps are always around 112F.  44C. for  my SYSTEM and 125F.  51C. for the CPU.
BTW, this is with the FSB set to 143, 1.85V for CPU, and 2.7 V for Memory.   The ambiant temp in the room varies between 68F.  20C. and 72F.  22C.
My main concern is when summer hits and the ambient temps go up to about 80F  26C.
Thanks.

I get the exact same TEMP with my volcano 9 but im not deaf.... lower the RPM to about 3500 with the pot.  You dont need to run it at full blast, its way too loud.  Just have a good air flow in the case and have it set to 3500 RPM.

• What's the deal with my cpu temp! I need a HSF!

I have an MS-6734 (KM4M-L) with the stock HSF & 2500+ barton cpu.  corecenter (the new version 1.5.8.0) reports (running nothing but IE) my cpu temp at 57C. (not overlocked.)  I had to reseat the cpu to make this board POST when I received it, and it had the typical cheap pink thermal pad that once i removed the HSF may have taken most of its effectiveness away?   i keep reading how people's cpu temps are in the 30's and it blows me away... my wife has an athlon 1.2ghz on an msi ms-6340 that also lacks any real paste and her temps show idle 53-55C as well.  Do I just need some good thermal past (like arctic silver?) to bring them down in the 40's?  I have my finger on the buy button on newegg for the paste but am also looking for a good HSF for my 2500+.  With this current mobo I am not able to overclock it (no settings in bios and corecenter locks it because i'm using onboard video) but i do play lots of games, where my cpu temp currently gets into the mid 60's.
Anyone with this mobo know if the Thermalright slk800 will fit, i'm also in a small case with the psu about an inch (25mm) from my stock hsf, i've read that some people have issues with fitment with the SLK series contacting caps on the mobo,  but their website shows it to be compatible with all motherboards.  I'm also considering the Tt volcano 9 since it's cheap and i'm 99% sure it will fit.  Any other ideas would be good, i've read the Vantec Aero is good too, but some people had issues with the vibration.   I just don't want to order up a fancy new hsf and have it not fit in my cramped case and matx mobo!
thanks for any advice

hi
i am having a problem with a MSI KM4M-L with Athlon Xp 2200+ processor,
the problem is the system shutsdown while working on the pc, this problem is occuring in 2 same configuration pcs now-a-days///
when i tried to check the temperature in the BIOS , i got the problem is in the Temperature part,
as the CPU temp varies from 68 to 70 degrees,
and the CPU Fan speed is 3245 RPM
the HSF is the original one which came with the processor,
what should i do to decrease the temperature ?
what should be the CPU fan speed ?
and any other setting which i should watch ?

Hello my friends!
I got my new Computer just before christmas.
But I dont like the screaming sound the CPU fan makes.
I have installed the corecenter and put it into auto and the sound increased a little.....but its still annoying.
I should be able to use different modes in corecell but I can figure how.....MSI talks about " BUZZFREE" & "LIFEPRO" & "POWERPRO" & "SPEEDSTER".....What is this and how do I Enable them.....Cant find them in corecenter.....
The only thing I find is Auto and manual.
Anyvone who can recomend a Good and silent fan for my CPU  what should i be buying.......Please help me.
And how hot may the cpu reach.....how hot can it be.....what temperature should I try to run it on....

Those other options you mentioned have nothing to do with how quiet your CPU Fan is Going to Be (By the Way why, what type of Heatsink Fan are you using)? and under Core-Center, You can Manually set the speed of Both the CPU and NB Fans by Selecting "User Mode" in the Fan Options UI,There you can choose up to 7 different speed settings.....And If you plan on Overclocking your FSB on your PC, you should be very careful on how low you set the CPU Fan, as It can and will get hot if you are using the "Stock" Intel Thermal Solution......If you want Great Cooling capability and a Quiet Fan, you should consider some of the Aftermarket Units for sale out there, I happen to have on all 3 of my systems (and Love) the Zalman 7000 AlCu heatsink fan unit, it is Big 96mm fan but Quiet, even at Full speed, and it is a Variable Speed (hardware and software adjustable) as at 100% speed, it only has to spin at 2,700 RPM'S, where the Stock Intel Unit spins at Close to 5,000 RPM'S, and with the Zalman you maintain about a -12 Degree C Delta in cooling capability over the Stock Intel unit.............................Sean REILLY875

I live in Hawaii by the ocean, but it's not that hot here.  I monitored these temperatures at 4PM during a windy, cloudy day.  My temps don't go below 50C on idle unless it's early in the morning, say 4-6AM when I'm doing papers before school.

Hi "dalnap"
Now I presume you are using the stock intel cooler that came with the P4.
Those temps are too high and I would definately not run your processor at load until we fix it just incase.
Now wot u need to do it reseat your heatsink on your processor.
This means you will have to take off the heatsink and clean it with any heatsink cleaner or isoproppyl alcohol till the old thermal pad or paste is removed
Then put a little bit of thermal paste in between the heatsink and the processor (about the size of a grain of rice) and put the heatsink back on top of the processor.
So if you havent got any you will need to buy some thermal paste, Artic Silver III is meant to be good but if you use that it voids your intel warrenty so buy any other descent thermalpaste.
For reference if you are using stock your CPU temps should be about:
Idle 40C
Load 60C (max)
Hopefully this helps otherwise there are many other experienced users that will help you!
Good Luck

I don't know the program you describe but you could perhaps download the last free version of the Everest Home Edition analytical tool from OldVersion.com
When you run it look under Computer/Sensor. It will show you your CPU temps and then you will at least know if it is the program or the sensor which is not working properly.

• How to reduce from 5º to 8ºC CPU Temp on your MSI K7N2 Delta!

I've installed this tweak last week and it is working very stable since then. It decreased my Idle CPU Temp from 42º to 36º and Overload from 54º to 48º:
Just go: http://forums.pcper.com/showindex.php?t=280137
AMD ATHLON XP 2600+ 12.5x333mhz 1.65V ~OC 11.5x400mhz 1.55V

MSI K7N2 Delta L
MSI GF4 4200-8X graphics Card

768MB Samsung DDR3200
LG 48x24x48x/16x CDROM/DVD Reader
Dual Fan 450W Troni Power Suppy

It seems that the link to the tweak is broken, I've found another one:
http://ftp://ftp.vector.co.jp/pack/win95/hardware/other/wpcre14.exe
This is what the article say:
Just tried it for the first time..It works GREAT
My idle temps are now 26c, down from 34c. That's 8C. I can have Winamp, IE and messenger running and CPU temps don't get by 29c.  Once i fire up, SETI though...I get back my regular Load temps at 39c.
Some of you probably know about it, already....here's for thousand others that don't.
This tweak can drop your idle CPU temps down as much as 8c, maybe more...depending on your system.
First thing you need to do is download WPCRSET & WPCREDIT.
They're both in this zip.
- Extract to a directory.
- Run "INSTDD.EXE". Click Install. When done, you will be prompted for restart. Hit Yes! -
- Then go back to the folder with extracted files, and open "WPCREDIT.EXE"
- A ms-dos like window will pop-up. Move the blinking block (with arrow keys or your mouse pointer) until it says Offset 6F at the buttom. Now, click on the two digit number where it says "HEX", and change it to 1F (The Hex for Offset 6F would have previously been 9F, 8F or something else). Hit Set.
Your idle temps should now start falling.
You would have to do this hack/tweak everytime you rebooted your computer if it wasn't for WPCRSET.
- Go to directory and run "WPCRSET.EXE"
- Look at the top of the window: Enable select "Start" and make sure Device is on "enable"
- Then click Add. Enter 6F for the register, and 1F for the data
- Click Ok and you'll be prompted to restart.
Once, you rebooted, open WCREDIT again and see if the 6F register is still on 1F. If it is, then that's it..You're all done.
Here's a Screenie of how it should be:
This only brings your idle temps down, and not your full load temps
It should work for all nforce2s, and use at your own risk
Check your nf7-s for CPU Disconnect. Most other nforce2 motherboards do not have this feature in the bios...so this tweak might prove useful.
READ THE WHOLE THREAD BEFORE TRYING THIS!
If you run a Distributed Computing project...then obviously this would be of no use to you

It activates the C1 (and maybe the C2) function Athlon XP CPU's support. Most mainboard brands have this feature as an option in the bios you can enable and disable. I just found out that EPoX doesn't have that feature. So what you're doing is just using a direct reg tweak to activate it. It's not like you're forcing anything, the Athlon XP chips are made to support this feature so it shouldn't do any damage.
When the CPU is idle the mainboard will send a command to the CPU that will cause a part of the CPU to be deactivated (and therefore not produce any heat). That's why this tweak only works on the idle temp and doesn't change anything on the load temp. Ofcourse as soon as the CPU power is needed the deactivated part will become active again, so it should have any influence on the performance of the CPU.
Strangely, my full load temp has decreased 6º C degrees too.

Hi Ray-
I'm having the exact same problem and have searched the web for hours looking for a solution (multiple spawned avgcmgr processes that consume cpu).
Did you find any solution?

• Correct CPU temp? Give your room temps Please

Loads of questions abound on correct CPU temps, yet very few give their room temps, which can greatly affect CPU temp. CPU temps will usually vary in some direct proportion to your room temps. You'll get a faster,  more accurate answer if you include them. (Of course, you'll also want to specify if your temps are generated by just idling or under the load of higher powered apps such as games.)
It's also helpful to know your location; eg Alaska or Carribean island (edit your profile to include) as different locations present different cooling challenges. As well, it's easier to recomend gear suppliers if we know generally where you are.
Cooler days!

The short answer is that cnq will not affect your load temps, since when loaded, it is effectively running exactly as it would without CNQ.
Yes, the temp will "shoot up" more when you go from non-loaded to loaded with CNQ, simply because it is starting from a lower temp to begin with.
You will learn not to trust corecenter readings eventually - they are by no means guaranteed accurate.
If you put your finger on your cpu heatsink when under load - if it's fairly warm, that's ok - if you can't hold it there for 10 seconds without burning, it's too hot.
Edit: I see you were using speedfan - same comment about accuracy applies.

• How do I monitor CPU Temp?

Is there a way to monitor CPU temp already built in the software or do I have to download a third party one?
If I have to download one what do you recommend?

Temperature monitor is free. They also sell a program called hardware monitor. That is what I use. I bought it a few years ago, and they keep on upgrading it for free.
