I haven't received my watch yet, But my wife got her watch and says her phone died much faster today. Its understandable since the pull on the battery is greater with Bluetooth on all day. Just curious to see what the community is experiencing.

I've noticed much better battery life with my ip4. After taking it off the charger on July 7 at 4:30 am, right now I'm at 4 hours, 46 minutes of usage and 30 hours of standby time and still have 52% of my battery left.
I don't need push so I leave that off, blue tooth is off until I need it, 3g on all the time, wi-fi on at home, I tend to close out any apps on my multi-tasking bar. Over night I didn't have it on the charger (just want to see how long I can go on a single charge with the new phone) and lost only 3% of the battery which from what I've read on these forums is normal.
I'm very pleasantly surprised by the stellar battey on this phone. I didn't really think I had battery issues with my 3gs either but the difference is quite obvious. With the 3gs, less usage and fewer hours of standy time (by the end of the day-10 pm, for example) had me at 30-40% of battery life left.

How do I maximise battery life on iphone 5s

I have just got an iphone 5s and the battery life is terrible. With my 4s I used to double click the home button then I could close down each app fully as they showed up in a row and I could press an x. I cant seem to do this with the 5s. Please help, its lasted 9 hrs since charging and I ve been asleep for most of them!!! I tried Apple support chat but after over 30 mins I didnt get a reply.

To shut down apps double-click the home button then swipe the app screen shot upwards. However, very few apps actually run in the background.
The list of apps you see when double-clicking the home button is only a list of recently used apps, it is NOT a list of all running apps.
Battery life will improve over the next days and weeks as the battery is used.

My battery life seems to have gone south since my upgrade to IOS 7.1. Does anyone know what I can do to stop the rapid drain? Can't even go a full day with avg use since the upgrade.

Fix for iPhone Battery Life

Hi, I have done this with IOS 5 through 6 and it works.
I have done this serveral times with my phone, as battery life decreases. I have not figured out what is the original cause of my battery problems, but every now and again, something starts to dain my battery at a rappid rate, in an hour or two. This is the fix to reset it.
1 - Back up you phone to iTunes
2 - Go into the settings under General and at the bottom sellect Reset and reset your iPhone erassing all data.
3 - Once it resets and shows you the default "out of the box" screan, power it off
4 - Recharge it FULLY.... I leave it over night.
5 - Power it on again
6 - Restore your settings via iTunes.
7 - Your done
In my experiance, if you skip any of the steps, like not powering off when your recharge or not recharging fully, will result in it still draining quickly.

OK, I agree that is a completely false statement. The rest of the article is pretty good.
If you assume a linear decrease in battery charge for each full cycle (which it really isn't, but much easier to model in a spreadsheet). Then 80% of original charge after 400 full cycles is approximately 0.8% loss in battery charge per full charge cycle (again this is a simplification, stay with me). This means that after 400 cycles, you are at approximately 80% of your original total charge level. As stated by Apple.
So, extrapolating that out to EOL (end of life) which Apple assumes to be 50% battery charge, it would take approximately 1,000 full charge cycles for your battery to be EOL (according to Apple). It would actually be slightly less than that since it won't be a linear function.
For me, that's 2 to 4 years of use depending on whether or not I continue using the iPhone as much as I have this first full week.

ALso, my wife got me the Belkin armband to run with the nano but I sweat through the band resulting in the back of the iPod to get wet. Surely this is not good. Anyone have a recommendation for an armband that keeps moisture away from the pod?

iPod Nano are small and they don't use Wi-Fi access so you get less power time on a Nano. As for iPhone, since you got apps, Wi-Fi + 3G access, and everything else, they give you more time so you can keep using. Nanos are ment to listen to music, listen to radio, view your photos, watch videos (without Wi-Fi) and since you got BlueTooth on the nano, it counts as wireless access so it drains your battery faster.

Is Firmware 5A347 helping YOUR 3G battery life?

When I got my 16 GB iPhone 3G on launch day, my battery lasted all of 5 hours with a mix of calls/internet, txt, etc. I didn't adjust the default settings(all services ON), but I set out to figure out how to stretch battery time or decide I need to return it for such poor battery life and stay with Verizon.
Thanks to these forums, I:
Did a restore via iTunes from 5A345 to 5A347.
Turned off the 3G
Turned off WifI(will use it when needed)
Turned off Location Services (will use it when needed)
Press the sleep button when I'm doing using it for the moment
Battery time increased to 12 hours mix of talk/web/standby
So, I looked and my usage was roughly 5.5 hours on a day I had 30 minutes of chat, no browsing, etc. So I kept looking for what was using my phone....
Deleted my "Where" app and some freebie game apps...left the REMOTE app and Bank of America app on the iPhone. I left my hardware settings as noted above.
Battery Time now sits at a usage of 1.25 hours, Standby of 17.75 hours, and a battery meter still at roughly 85 percent.
I have the brightness at 30% and on auto-bright....the auto-lock set for 1 minute....the fetch email on for 1 Hour, PUSH is on(I use and LOVE MobileME).
I'm going to run this cycle until the phone shuts off. The stretch from 5 hours to currently 18+ is incredulous...I'll report back tomorrow.

I haven't really had any major problems with battery life. Though at this point in the day I would usually see the battery depleted somewhat. However, since I've installed 347 it appears that my battery life is better. Today my battery shows as full and it's been on battery since 9 a.m. eastern time this morning. I've done a little web browsing, sent out a few SMS's, added some contacts, and I'm monitoring 4 email accounts on it (two push). I have 3G enabled, BT enabled, WiFi enabled (and connected to a network).
This is very preliminary as I only looked when I saw this thread topic. It may take a few days to verify.

i live in iran. this 3gs was a gift from america .. it contains NOTHING. i can do nothing with it. it cannot be updated cuz the version is low. i dunno what t do please help.

Possible causes:
1. Your antivirus is blocking access to gs.apple.com.
2. Your phone is jailbroken.
3. Your computer has been used at some time in the past to jaibreak some iOS device (not necessarily the phone with the problem), and its network database was corrupted by the hacking software that was used.
4. Apple's activation servers are down (very rare, and never for more than an hour or so).
5. The phone was reported stolen. If it was it can never be activated again.
For 1. try disabling your antivirus.
For 2. & 3. you need to go somewhere other than an apple forum for help. Although you can try deleting lines containing gs.apple.com from your "hosts" file on your computer.

This can only be done by Apple or a certified repair shop - in fact Apple would probably simply replace the phone (at a cost) as they do with iPods. It's a big weakness, but it's the cost of the snazzy slim design. I think they must be gambling on most people upgrading their phones every year or eighteen months.
Having said that this site provides information on doing it yourself for an iPhone 4 - I don't know whether there similar sites for the latest models - but I am not recommending that you do this: you would find it tricky at least, you might well damage something, and you will get no help from Apple if you do.

click the home button twice, when you see the apps line up on the page, swipe the ones you want to close up and off the page. Scroll to access more apps, tap the home button once to exit the mode
For battery issues, look in the notifications. iOS7 defaults a lot on that you may not need. Also look to the background updating of apps. That can drain battery too.

I would also note that the 11" and 13" have different lives. While the 11" has a smaller screen to drive (and thus, in theory, less power) it also has less space for a battery. So it turns out the 13" has a longer battery life, all other things being equal (same usage and the like).
Clearly what's "average" will vary by user. Depending on what I'm doing, I can get Apple's rated life (or darned close) or I could end up well short of that life. The "rated" life is 5 hours for the 11" and 7 hours for the 13" but that is, at best, a very rough approximation. As the picture in captfred's response makes clear, the actual usage of the machine has a huge influence.
