How large an application can grow

Environment:
Windows XP / 7 / Linux / Solaris
Browsers: IE 7/8, FF latest, Chrome latest.
Flash 10.x.
Is it possible to find how much RAM Flash is able to use, other words how large an application can grow?
Say, I am running my Flex app in Chrome on Windows XP.
Phisical memory available to Windows: 3 Gig.
Using Chrome Task Manager I see that sometimes FP crashes somewhere around 1/4 of total
RAM, sometimes it goes above.
Thanks in advance,
Ilya

Most email providers limit the size a message can be, and the most significant determinant of message size is the attachments. I do not believe your ISP understood your question, or you misunderstood their answer, because no email provider would support a message the size you report. MobileMe, for example once only supported messages of 10 MB or less, but now supports 20 MB see:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2069
For the size limits for such providers as Gmail, see:
http://email.about.com/od/gmailtips/qt/et083105.htm
Others support perhaps upwards of the 20 MB. Regardless, if your provider were to support such huge messages, the providers of many recipients would not.
My own cable provider might support the video file you tried to send, but not certain. With such files, I always FTP them to a gallery of some sort, and let people access them. There is not similar limits on what can be downloaded via your browser.

  • How large a HD can go in my external firewire enclosure?

I realize this is not actually a Mac product, but rather a Made for Mac product, but here goes anyway. I have an older Fantom Drives external firewire drive that I bought for G4 which moved to my G5. It is about 120gb. I am curious how large a drive and what type I can put in this enclosure. Here is the info from system monitor, if that helps:
    OXFORD IDE Device:
    Manufacturer: Oxford Semiconductor Ltd.
    Model: 0x1
    GUID: 0x30E034E002102E
Maximum Speed: Up to 400 Mb/sec
Connection Speed: Up to 400 Mb/sec
    Sub-units:
    OXFORD IDE Device Unit:
    Unit Software Version: 0x10483
    Unit Spec ID: 0x609E
    Firmware Revision: 0x137
    Product Revision Level:
    Sub-units:
    OXFORD IDE Device SBP-LUN:
    Capacity: 115.04 GB
    Removable Media: Yes
    BSD Name: disk4
    OS9 Drivers: No
    S.M.A.R.T. status: Not Supported
    Volumes:
    Firewire HD:
    Capacity: 114.91 GB
    Available: 80.19 GB
    Writable: Yes
    File System: Journaled HFS+
    BSD Name: disk4s3
    Mount Point: /Volumes/Firewire HD

You can probably google Fantom + Oxford but... my guess is it may not have the firewire bridge support for 48-bit LBA to use large drives.
And it most likely needs a firmware update if possible. When Tiger came out many needed such updates.
Instead, I'd just get a new Oxford 934 FW case from OWC with FW800/400 USB2.
Insures less trouble and with work with current OS.

  • How large an attachment can I send??

I have been trying to send, as an attachment, a video taken with my digital camera and converted to a QT movie. The email comes back as undeliverable. I checked with my isp and was told that I could sent attachments of 25 gb...the one I was trying to send was 17.1 MB. My isp suggested that I use stuffit...I checked my HD and can't find it. Is this unusual.?.I know I've had Stuffit Expander before..is this what I need and where can I d/l it from. Also I'm curious as to why I couldn't attach a file of 17.1 MB. Is it possible that the recipients were able to receive a file that size? 17.1 MB is not a large file.
Thanks for any help/suggestion as to how I can compress the movie.

  • How many ALSA applications can play sound at once?

I ran into a strange issue where I had Counter-Strike:GO running (sound working fine in the game itself) but when I alt-tabbed, no other application could play sound.  VLC would complain my device was busy and Chromium didn't show an error but sound didn't work either (tested with a YouTube video.)  I was able to solve this by changing the audio setting in CS:GO from 5.1 surround to 2 speaker (I use headphones so no need for surround) so now I can alt-tab and still have sound in other applications.
What I want to know now is why that is?  Is there a limit to the number of simultaneous channels or what?  I just tested and with CS:GO set to 2 channel I can play sound from CS:GO, Chromium, VLC, and Banshee all at the same time but with 5.1 CS:GO hogs the sound card all to itself.
I'm also curious about where PulseAudio fits into this.  Right now I'm just using pure ALSA.  If I were to get a surround setup one day would PulseAudio overcome this limitation and allow me to play music while I game?

    See list of gotchas.
The main issue you probably have is that Dmix doesn't work with more than stereo - *unless* you use something like my sample config.
ALSA is flexible, which means it will allow naughty apps to block the soundcard for other apps. So, configure your apps also.
ALSA works fine, no need for pulseaudio.

  • How large a report can be?

    Dear all,
Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
I am using Report Builder 9i. I've created a report which select from a BIG table (there is 150 columns, and each column is varchar2(150)). I encountered the following problems:
    1. When I run the report wizard and click finish for generating the report layout, report builder exit abnormally.
    2. when I export the report to a delimited file on my local machine. The file can be exported but it only contains 8 columns of data.
    I would like to ask
    1. is the BIG table can be supported by Report Server?
    2. how do I solve the problem when a report is selecting from a big table?
    Regards,
    Edmund

    hello sbs12345
as i remember well, one instance of repeating frame cannot be lagrer then your body... you can try to use panelling (f.e. not 1x1 but 1x3 physical page in one logical page) or move master-detail relation from your "big" repeating group to each detail groups (queries)
    Hope this helps

  • How large a file can be used with Home Sharing?

I am trying to use my pictures folder with home sharing. It is a large folder (over 4000 pictures) with it work? i.e. will my apple tv devise find it and display it on my tv?

It used to be a limit of about 5 AppleTVs per iTunes library with AppleTV 1 but that registered them as devices rather than using Home Sharing.
I suspect but don't know for sure that Home Sharing has to be more liberal as Home Sharing now works to portable devices like iPads too, and if the household had a couple of AppleTV2's, iPhoness and iPads they could reach 5 very quickly.
Having said that we just don't know.  There is a limit of sharing to 5 computers with Home Sharing, so it's possible the same applies to individual device types, we just don't seem to know from the support docs posted.
Personally I'd be surprised if 5 was the limit as under the old system if you ran out of 'Devices' in itunes you could set up another computer for the next 5 and so forth.  Home Sharing on the other hand just shares to a particular account so you'd see all libraries shared from a particular account on all AppleTVs.

How large can a LabVIEW Queue in elements and bytes?

    In
elements it is likely something like 2^31. In bytes it is most probably
around the same number or better, depending how exactly the different
queue elements are stored. I think they are stored as independent
pointers so it would be theoretically better than those 2^31. In
practice however starting to allocated so much memory in LabVIEW will
always cause problems on nowadays computers. Without 64 bit CPU and OS
going above 2 GB of memory per application is very hard and as far as I
    know not supported by LabVIEW.
Also allocating many chunks of memory (like a few million queue
elements holding strings) will definitely slow down your system tremendously eventhough
it will work but the OS memory manager will be really stress tested
    then.

A lost my remote control for apple tv. I want to use my phone as a remote but the applications can' pair with the Apple TV device , how can I pair them without remote?

    Setup for remote app: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1947
    Specifically:
Set up Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation)
On Apple TV, select Settings from the main menu.
Select General > Remotes > Remote App. If Home Sharing isn't set up on your Apple TV, you should turn it on.
Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation) uses Home Sharing to stream content from your iTunes library on your computer to your HDTV.  If  you connect your Apple TV to your iTunes library using  Home  Sharing, you can use Remote to browse and play content from any  iTunes library in the Computers   section of your Apple TV. You can also  use Remote to select  between available speakers to enhance  your  audio and video experience.

This is probably a dumb question, but I can't find an answer. How do I make the text on my calendar larger so I can actually read it when I print it out? I am using a MacBook.

Press "Command P" and when the Print dialogue box comes up, towards the bottom there is an option allowing you to choose the text size, i.e: small, med, large.

  • How large can a PDF be?

I have 50 large PowerPoint files that I want to combine all their slides into a single PDF, is this possible. How large of a file can the adobe software handle, I suspect the final PDF will be large, about 3 gigabytes and 1,200 slides. Yes this is large but can the software handle it without any problems?
Is it possible to create links in the pdf to access certain points in this large file. What software program would best handle my project. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks David at Email [email protected]

PDF 1.0 through 1.4 uses 10 digit offsets, which is an unsigned integer (so 9,999,999,999).  PDF 1.5 and later support a new type of offset that doesn't have any such limitation and is a 64-bit unsigned integer.
Assuming a modern OS, file system, and disk format, Adobe Acrobat/Reader supports PDFs using the newer offset up to their full 64bit lengths.  I can't common on any other company's products.
