How long to photos remain in photo stream? Should they be saved permanently sometime? If Photostream is turned on, and then you download a memory card with pictures, what's the best way to not have duplicate pictures?

The photos remain in the My Photo Stream for 30 days or untill more than 1000 are added and push them out. If you setup iPhoto's iCloud preferences as shown below all phiotos will be automaticall imported into your library when the iPhone is conected to WiFi.

The AutoPlay function on the computer is controlled in Control Panel. Also, there needs to be current photos that have not been imported to the phone for it to start, and also the phone needs to be unlocked if you have a passcode on it. If you have not been prompted to "Trust" the computer on the iPhone and answered that, it will also make a difference.
Do you have the latest version of iTunes on the computer? What makes you think that you have a driver problem? You can take a look at Step 5 in this support document to see if that helps your driver problem. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538

Backing up and restoring takes time, especially if you have a lot of data or a slow connection. Depending on the size of your backup and the speed of your network, you may need more time than expected to complete the process. As I understand it, enabling journaling in Mac OS creates a hidden file that somehow tracks and lists every transaction, i.e., file printed, window open or closed, file modified or saved, etc.
Is this understanding correct? If so, how long do journaled transactions remain in the system? Can they be accessed by the user? Can they be accessed by a computer expert?

No.
Journaling only applies changes to the file system on the disk. It has nothing to do with printing or opening windows.
The process of writing (or deleting) a file on disk is very complex. Besides writing the data itself, the system has to choose and allocate the space, update the directory, update the volume table of contents and the volume bitmap, update the Spotlight index, and more. Even if the whole process takes a fraction of a second for a small file, all the steps must be completed, or the file system will be corrupted. The journal is simply a checklist of all the steps. Once the process is successfully completed, the journal entry is deleted. So the entry may only exist for a few seconds or less.
If the computer crashes or the power goes out before the updates are complete, then when the disk is brought back online, the system will notice an incomplete journal. It will go through the journal and clean up the mess. That doesn't mean it will rescue the file. It is usually too late for that. But it will avoid file system corruption caused by having a partially saved file.

About TM "Backup Drive is Full"
Alert TM only deletes older files if they have been deleted from the source and when TM needs space on the backup drive for a new incremental backup. Time Machine "thins" it's backups; hourly backups over 24 hours old, except the first of the day; those "daily" backups over 30 days old, except the first of the week. The weeklies are kept as long as there's room.
So, how long a backup file remains depends on how long it was on your Mac before being deleted, assuming you do at least one backup per day. If it was there for at least 24 hours, it will be kept for at least a month. If it was there for at least a week, it will be kept as long as there's room.
Note, that on a Time Capsule the sparsebundle grows in size as needed, but doesn't shrink. Thus, from the user's view of the TC it appears that no space has been freed, although there may be space in the sparsebundle.
Once TM has found it cannot free up enough space for a new backup it reports the disk is full. You can either erase the backup drive and start your backups anew or replace the drive with a larger drive.

I`m `propping` up this thread to to the top of the forums again as it`s been three months and not a single community member or Apple support personnel have replied, which I find discouraging.
I`ve tried everything - both the iOS device(s) and Apple TV have been upgraded (albeit reluctantly) to the latest versions, since iOS 7 looks like crap compared to iOS 6. Both use the same WiFi network. Bluetooth is set to `off`, as per the online tutorials on the Apple Support page.
I also tried shutting all of them down, including the router, waiting 30 seconds and turning the router, then the Apple TV then the iOS device on sequentially with 30 seconds in between each, again as per this discussion forum, and still nothing.
Why can Apple not make a technology, such as AirPlay, work with greater than 10%?
Any other ideas?

As I wrote Apple will diagnose an Apple product even if it is out of warranty for free. That should be your first step to find out if the problem is the battery or something else.
Once you have Apple telling you a 7 month old battery is defective (if that turns out to be the case) then it becomes a game of horse trading. You'll need to speak to the tech and when he tells you there is nothing he can do you will need to speak to the tech manager and when she says most likely there is nothing they can do you go to the store manager, etc. It is unlikely (though possible) that they will give in easily you need to be firm, polite and let on that you're willing to accept a partial reimbursement.
So again the first step is to find out what is wrong.

For a single use or how long will the battery last until it needs to be replaced? For single use, it depends on what you are doing when using you mac. I find that when using mine I get about 6-6 1/2 hours just using it to browse the internet before I need to recharge it. If it is one of the newer Macbook Pros that claim to have a 7 hour battery life, It can last up to 5 years. The book can be in review for hours, bit more often than not, up to two weeks depending on how busy they are.
Check your iTunesConnect daily.....they do not work weekends and remember to take into account your time zone compared to US time.
