How long does it take for them to ship from china? I was pretty surprised when I saw that it was shipping from shanghai,CN. Unless I have my abreviations wrong and it's somethin else, how long does it take to ship usually when you get the upgraded 60 gig drive

It's really weird. I just recently ordered my iBook w/ iPod (personalized from Apple), and both shipped from China. The iPod's taken around 3 days, and it's in Madison, WI, where I live. My iBook has shipped two days ago and apparently it's still in the FedEx depot in Shanghai, so I'm hoping to get it soon! Yeah, I just check the updates regularly like that...

They told me I should have it today or tomorrow...and that was Saturday...no box.

I would assume that the box would be in today or tomorrow. Mine came the very next day, but I also ordered it early that morning. Other issues might be your local post office delivery system. I don't, check your door tomorrow.

Rarcrack - how long for the file with 400 MB ?

I'm trying to get the password in the encrypted file with 400 MB. It's more time I thought.
If someone have used the program, rarcrack, can you tell me know that get the password with special characters ?
For example:
The encrypted file with 400MB + the passwords "?_123_123_abc_@theworld".
How long for that ?

Does rarcrack know how long the pass-phrase is or not?
Also, are you using a dictionary/removing obvious choices of pass-phrase to help speed up the process OR are you brute-forcing every single pass-phrase from the ASCII alpha-numeric alphabet + punctuation?
TL;DR: Assuming I've done the Maths correctly, a damn sight longer that you might have thought
Since you haven't said, I'm going to assume YES to the first question and I'm assuming you're brute forcing, to make the maths simpler.
For one character position you're looking at about 26 lower case + 26 upper case + 10 digits + 10 punctuation marks of some sort. So that's 72 characters. You've got 22 characters in the passphrase, so that's a potential of 72^22 = 7.26632672153 x 10^40 pass-phrase combinations.
Now let's assume you're doing this on modern hardware, with an SSD on a single machine which can process something at the rate of 200MB/s. That's two seconds a pass. That'll take you about 2.01842408931 x 10^37 hours.
Disclaimer: I'm working off the assumption that encryption has been used, and that rarcrack would decrypt the whole file on each attempt (pass-phrase protection and encryption are different things...). I don't actually know how it works, but for those that do know how it does, you can probably work out the time from the number of pass-phrase combinations.

What did the email say that confirmed your order? It states on there an expected delivery date. This is a user to user support forum, so no one here would really know when it would be delivered, only Apple would, and they do not participate in the forum.

At Friend Home i'm used WPA2-Shared-key (Belkin, Lynksys, D-Link) it's worked no problem.
At Office i can not used WPA2-Shared-key with Lynksys difference model it's not worked, but many co-worker worked with iPhone.

How long does shipping, etc. take for iPod nano issue?

I spoke with an apple representative today about my nano which is crashing about every minute or so. I was informed they were sending me a box in which to send my iPod back. Any idea how long this process takes? I'm leaving on vacation soon and would like my iPod. Thanks.

I have, just now, about 9 GBs of stuff on my 2G 16 GB and I'd say 8 minutes but I think it's less than that.
I'm constantly switching play lists and changing movies and TV shows as well as pod casts (I won't miss Rachel Maddows if I can help it.) so sync gets a work out.
It's true I've only got 3 apps so if you've got pages that might make a sync longer but not that much longer!

I was just wondering. I ordered a Quad G5 CTO w/1GB, 7800GT, and Airport last friday.
I can't get a straight answer from my local Apple dealer, but the guy did mention that it might ship on the 27th.
I ordered a G-Tech 250GB Drive on Sunday- Apple said 2-4 days for shipping, but it shipped first thing Monday morning... So I have no clue what Apple's "2-4 Days" means.
Does anyone know how long it generally takes to ship a CTO Quad G5 these days? I find it hard to believe it would be over a week (according to the Apple store I ordered from), when the Apple website says 2-4 days...

It also depends on how backed up they are in general shipping out all their other products. Apple is not the speediest shipper on earth but the orders always arrive.

I would add more days to that time to account for the fact that USB 1 is slower (more like 0.7MB/s in my tests from years ago).
This is an appalling idea - your disk could easily stop working in the time it takes to copy.

It has USB2 ports & Firewire - connect directly to one of those & the time will be much less (more like 1/2 a day).

I'm new to Logic and even new to Macs. I'm just wondering how long does it usually take for Apple to release bug fixes and updates to Logic?
Also, how long did Apple take to get around to providing worthwhile updates to Logic 7? Were there substantial updates changed work flow, functionality, etc?

Logic 7 was never updated so as to provide any significant changes in workflow over its initial release. But apparently L7 so intrinsically broken that they abandoned any effort to fix it. Instead, they developed Logic 8.
L8 has some very obvious bugs, yes. They need to be fixed yesterday. But as usual, Apple is dragging its feet in this regard.
To your question, how long.... well, L7 updates occurred about every 4 months. There's no telling if they'll be on a more conscientious schedule for releasing L8 updates. They only offer end-users one choice: wait and see what happens.

That would be up to your bank and their policies on removing preauthorizations. Since the phone never shipped, Best Buy never removed the funds, and just an authorization was placed.

I've seen this before. Sometimes the installation doesn't prompt for a root password, and you can't login as root. Just power-off the system and start in failsafe mode. Then mount the root partition(it asks you if you'd like to do that) and edit /[mountpoint]/etc/shadow and remove the encrypted passwd string:
root:R1yP.BOK1xTeU:6445::::::
becomes
root:::::::
Then reboot, choose command-line login and log in as root.
