How long is boot up time?

I just installed mac... (NOT on a PC)
It is at the light gray screen with the dark gray apple and the gray spinner. It is looking pretty gray
It has been "booting" for a while, and how long is the startup on first boot for tiger?
mitch9654

Then off hand I'd say the installation failed. Here's a suggestion.
Repartition and reformat your hard drive as follows:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Now do a new install. Unless there's a hardware issue this should get you working.
BTW, since your question relates to Tiger (I think) you should post in the Tiger forums instead of the Panther and earlier (namely, here.) Not a big deal for now, but in the future.

" Finally, processScope never empties itself; the only way to clear processScope is to manually force it to clear:
    AdfFacesContext afContext = AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    afContext.getProcessScope().clear();
Otherwise the variable lives for the duration of the window process. The referenced document above also shows how to set a variable to process scope

While we have no idea within this Community Forum how long you would have to wait for your iPhone 6 Case, I can tell you that there would not be a "general" answer of value.  Like any product that is available in different materials and colors, the inventory varies based on what you have specifically ordered.  For example, I visited an Apple Store on the day after the iPhone 6 became available and was interested in the "Midnight Blue" Leather"  Apple iPhone 6 Case.  The store had plenty of all the other colors, but that specific case and color had sold out that morning.

Not much faster than 40 GBs-60GBs per hour. So, minimally, around 12 hours.

  • If i order the iPad today, how long is the delievery time ?

    Hi,
I was wondering if I order the iPad online today, how long is the delivery time ? if it was to send to Wilmette, IL 60091 U.S.A.
_*I want to place an order of 2x iPads, Camera kit x 2, Standard iPad case x 2, but I need to recieve the package before September 30th, would that be possible ?*_
Thank you, please reply me as soon as possible so i can place my order ASAP.

From what i know, if you ordered an ipad online through Apple and it is coming from overseas, you can't change the shipping.  The only way you would know this is to call Apple and ask.  I ordered mine on April 12 and still don't have it or any information, however...apple said mine is coming from PA and they did bump me up to 1 day shipping rather than the standard 2 day shipping.  So it all depends where you ipad is coming from.
    Hope this helps!

    Hi Skunnyss,
It can be disappointing to find the item you’ve got your heart set on isn’t available for purchase, so it’s exciting to hear you found your PS4 console through our eBay page!
Please know that according to our Best Buy store page (found here), PayPal is our exclusive payment partner on eBay. This means our gift cards cannot be used towards an eBay Best Buy purchase. Additionally, I’m unsure if the receipt provided at the time of purchase gives an itemized list of what is purchased. While I’d think it would, please let me know if this is not the case. I should be able to pull up your eBay order and provide you an itemized list if you end up purchasing the console with our eBay store.
    I hope this helps,

  • How long does restoring from time machine take?

I restarted my MPB running Lion while holding down cmd-r.
Using the restore utility I chose a time machine backup and selected to restore from it.
This was about three hours ago. Since then there has been a window on my screen saying 'restoring "macintosh HD" on the disk "macintosh HD"' and 'erasing the restore disk "macintosh HD".
There is a moving stripy activity bar, but it's not of the type that actually shows progress, just moving stripes from left to right.
I have no idea if anything is actually happening. The 'go back' and 'stop' buttons are greyed out.
For all I know it is just taking a long time to erase the disk, but then again maybe something has gone wrong.
I  am afraid to reboot because maybe half the disk has been erased!
Also, I have the whole-disk file vault encryption enabled, so maybe this slows things down.
Anybody know if this behaviour is normal? How long do these restores take? Should I just restart and try again?
    Thanks!
    Tom

    Update:
The laptop went to sleep. When I moved the mouse to wake it the screen froze.
I restarted and the computer booted straight to the Mac OSX utilities screen. My HD is no longer recognised as a boot disk.
    Going to try restoring again.

  • 10.5.2 update - how long for boot cache update?

At the end of the 10.5.2 updater, I got amessage telling me the Boot Cache needed to be updated, and that everything would run and then restart when finished. When I went back to the MacBook, the screen was dark, yet the white power light on the font was on.
I'm not sure if the Boot Cache cleanup is complete or if I am having problems. How long should it take, and is the screen supposed to turn off/go black during the process?

Thanks for the feedback. Since the restart fixed the problem, I recommend downloading the 10.5.2 COMBO update, installing it to ensure that nothing's broken, and after restarting, launch Disk Utility and repair permissions. Once that's finished, launch Software Update and install everything that's missing, except the Time Machine & Airport combined update which precludes reinstalling the COMBO update.

  • How long to Boot Up NEW iMac?

The boot up time on my recently bought iMac seemed to take a very long time, so I timed the boot up and it took 55+ seconds, which seems a long time to me.  My older 2008 iMac was quicker!  Virtually everything is the same on both iMacs, because my Apple Agent transferred all data from old to new, so how can a new, supposedly faster, iMac take longer?.
Has anyone got an idea about this?

Thanks to you all for your replies.
From baltwo's explanation above, I now understand why my new iMac with Mountain Lion takes so much longer than my 2008 iMac with Snow leopard.
Regarding log in items, they are all the same as on the older iMac so, as you say, it's the M Lion OS that's to blame.  I can understand the possible usefulness of the disk checks, but I wonder why Apple thinks all the other 'nonsensible' stuff is relevant.
I also have a new iMac (2013).  See my system profile.  What is yours?
My booting time does take a long time but restarting is instantaneous!  I don't even complete a blink of the eye when my desktop appears.  What is your restarting time?
Me thinks it all has to do w/the type of HD you have and the amount of RAM.
EDIT:  Sorry, my profile is not showing up for some strange reason.

  • How long to boot MacBook pro 13" late 2011?

It takes 1 minute 30 seconds to startup my macbook pro 13" late 2011 (2.4ghz i5 processor, 4GB RAM)
This seems like a long time? I have Microsoft Office and Photoshop installed, will this slow it down?
    Thanks!

if you have a normal hard drive installed - it usually takes a minute to desktop when you power up.
check your login items to see what's loading when you first power up your Macbook.
you can also go to disk utility and verify your disk permissions - repair them if errors are found then restart your Macbook.
see if that helps your booting time.
    good luck

  • How long for an initial Time Machine backup?

The HD I using for Time Machine crapped out on me, and I had to reinitialize with Disk Utility. The HD is FW800, connected to a 2010 iMac.
The amount of data in the initial TM backup is 823 GB. It looks like it's going to take nearly 2 days for everything to copy over.
Does this amount of time sound right? The reason I ask is that when I first did this procedure 2 years ago, I don't remember it taking this long. My data has definitely grown since then, but not by much. Don't recall exactly, but I want to say maybe 500-600 GB?
TIA in advance for any help.

You're right. The HD in question is a LaCie Quadra 1GB. It's one of two I swap out weekly for TM backups. It should still be in warranty, so I'll try to take adavantage of that.
What's interesting, though, is I just searched for something Spotlight. Apparently this disk, and another I use for SuperDuper! backup are both indexing while the copying is going on. The TM HD needs another 60 hours to index and the SuperDuper! one needs 9.
I've never noticed this before; never though to check, really. Especially regarding SuperDuper. Need to look into how Spotlight indexing works. Oh, well. The important thing is I do have a cloud backup of important data running every four hours, so the work is safe.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • How long is the live time of the Application variable???

Tell me if anyone knows the default live time of the application variable in JSP. Can i set this time?
    Thanks in advance!

I believe that the answer is application server dependent, but most application servers will keep the values around until the application server is restarted (or crashes).
Some of the better (and more expensive) application servers can persist application state across server restarts but I haven't witnessed this firsthand. (I've seen it in action with session state, however).
    Hope this helps ...

Im going to migrate to another mac using time machine, how long does it take (time machine/main hdd in the old mac was at about 700gb capacity)

There is no way of determining that. The time is dependent on a number of different factors.

  • 1) How to reduce MacBook boot up time?  2) Should I upgrade my 2008 MacBook to Lion?  3) How long will a 2008 MacBook last (after 4 years)?  Thanks!

I have three quick questions to ask:
    1.  My MacBook (bought in late 2008,  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM,  160 GB HD, running Leopard/10.5.8) boots up quite slow.  It can take a while to boot up and shut down.
Question:  What should I do to reduce the boot up time?
I haven't done a clean up for a while, and am a MacBook newbie (after 4 years, still) for the tools.  I think I need to remove some applications but don't know exactly how. Also I am looking for stuff like System Defragment / Compression (tools available for Windows OS) to tune the hard disk performance, if possible.
    2.  Sort of related to this slow boot-up time - should I bother to upgrade to Snow Leopard (pay $ 29.00) and then upgrade to Lion (another $ 29 ?) for some 250 new features that I am not exactly sure if I will need it (or my 2008 MacBook can handle it well)?
My friend has a 2011 MacPro which he let me use it for a while, so I think I am already using Lion,  but frankly I can't tell much difference from the user experience (am just a very average Mac user!).
Question:  Should I bother the money and the time (I heard the downloading and installation time for Lion is very long) if all I care is boot-up time?
    3.  One last question - How long can my MacBook last?   Is there a way to find out the battery life?  Any indication that my MacBook might be on the edge of its life cycle anytime soon?
I heard that typically the life for a laptop (PC or Mac) is 2 years. I am not a heavy user, and I guess that's why my MacBook is still alive after 4 years.  But should I expect that to be failing any time soon?
    Thank you!

I'll try to make it short but with your questios, might be impossible.
I own both late 2008 MB Uni with 2Ghz and a brand new late 2011 MBP 13 inch.
I have lion running on both Macbooks with no slow down or issues.
The late 2008 I upgraded to 8GB Crucial DDR3 Memory and 320GB Seagate Hard Drive. Total cost to me? $140 CDN ( i live in Canada ).
My MB Uni's battery has 1047 cycle count and I still get 3-1/2 - 4 hours of battery life depending on what applications I'm using.
As for typical life of a PC or MAC ( I own both ).  The PC's life is shorter than a MB.  I have a 4 year old Dell Vostro that I had to do a RAM upgrade so Windows 7 would run properly.
My late 08 MB had 4GB of RAM when I upgraded to Lion with no issues.  i just decided to go 8GB because it was cheap.
A 2GB MB will boot up and run faster than a 4GB PC with windows 7.
Nothing is obsolete if you can still do your stuff on your MB.
To make it boot up faster, see what's loading on startup and take them off if you don't need them.
