How long is Logic Pro 7 going to be usable?

Anybody have any idea when Logic 7 will be phased out?
I ask because I love 7 and hate loathe despise Logic Pro 8. (don't want to get into a pointless dicussion about this - I know what I know and you can't change my mind)
I want to use 7 for the forseeable future but I saw somewhere that it was going to be unusable in Snow Leopard.... is that true? Anyone in the know?
I'm seriously concerned about this.

I use the latest and greatest Mac-OS on my Mac-Book --as well as 10.4.7 running Logic7 on the same machine.
One can have more than one OS on a Mac. they can partition drives or use an external to boot from various OS's. Common practice. In fact, I plan on adding Windows to my Mac soon so I can install AVID video editing software.
Point is, the ability of using "outdated" software and using the newest stuff on the same machine is an easily realized reality.
Eventually I suppose my Mac-book hardware won't be able to run some future version of the Mac-OS, but that's a few years off. Or, as in the case of my Mac-book, it won't be able to run old version of an OS. Who knows?
That's part of the computer bizness. Still, with a little flexibility one can get a lot of years and milage out of their set-up. Not sure I agree with the "forced" to upgrade scenario. For instance, my old band's first album was deliberately recorded in an all analog studio on 16 track tape and it was the sweetest mix we've ever had. (and expensive) So, age of the gear and using the latest and greatest ain't always priority one when it comes to sound work. Depends on what ya want.
Maybe the OP will still be so enamored with Logic7 that he'll always use it. If it works for him, why not? I know I plan on sticking with it for awhile.
I've also learned to stay behind the curve by a year or so in order to avoid compatibility issues.

For sure, one to one training, if given by a tutor who is capable, will hand you the means to build up self-confidence and will therefore let you operate the hard/software in an intelligent manner, instead of going for the trial and error method which has its pro's and con's too. Once you've passed this beginners phase you will make your own decisions intelligently and then you will also start to get experience and learn even from your mistakes. Something like that in theory and the rest is up to you!

If you bought the boxed set of Logic Studio 2.0 which includes LP9, then you cannot download it. You must use the disks that came as part of the boxed set... to install from.
If you bought the App Store version of Logic Pro 9 then go to the Mac App Store App, Sign into the Store using the same Apple ID you used to purchase LP originally, look under the Purchase Tab and you shouldl find LP9 ready and waiting for you to download and install.

How to update Logic Pro X to 10.1?

Recently been trying to figure out how to update logic pro x to 10.1.... not really sure how to go about it or where to begin. I purchased it in September of 2013 and not sure that its been updated ever since. When i go to about it says that im running 10.0.3. Also, not sure if this matters but when i go view it on the mac app store it gives me the option to purchase it for $199.99, which i already have. Please help! thanks in advance.

That only usually happens when the original copy of LPX on your system had been renamed or moved from it's original location (or was in a different User Account on your Mac....) which is why the Mac App Store app couldn't find it to update it....
Check your system (search the internal drive and any other drives attached, one at a time) for other copies of LPX...... using FindAnyFile....

Search for Logic or LPX or Logic Pro or any other possible name that could be Logic Pro X and see if it finds any other copies... or any duplicates in the Application folder...
If it does, delete those copies that are not in the Application folder in the root of your system drive... and/or are not named Logic Pro X, to be on the safe aside and to prevent such an issue occurring again.. in the future.
Don't forget to empty trash too... after doing all this.
Glad you got it updated never the less....
Note: I assume it actually updated LPX to v10.1.1 which is the latest version.... and not v10.1

I'd suggest you ask this question in the QuickTime for Mac forum. QuickTime for Windows doesn't have the video capture feature, so this probably isn't the best place for you to get a quick answer.

That depends. How much free space do you have available on a single drive? Which compression format do you plan to use? How fast is your CPU. Barring the unexpected, QT 7 Pro will record until it runs out of scratch space. Frame rates are dependent on your CPU power which means newer, more powerful platforms record more frames per second and thus tend to have higher data rates up to the max standard for the system. Lastly, the compression format/device type/device capture size/graphic complexity combination also determines the average data rate. So, as long as the average data rate times the duration of the clip is less than the amount of free space available on your hard drive, you can record continuously.

If by "oncscreen" movie you are referring to a "screen capture" of a movie, the QT 7 Pro will not do this. You either need to use a third-party screen capture application or upgrade to Snow Leopard for QT X "screen capture" capabilities.

1. There is no iStore and App store in Serbia, so i've opened (like 200.000 thousend users from Serbia) account on our friendly country who used to bomb us in 1999. USA!!! Heheheh...

HOW TO FIX LOGIC PRO CRASHES WITH NEXUS PLUGIN ON MAC OS X 10.6.8 !! =)

After updating my Mac OS X to 10.6.8, my Logic Pro would always crash when opening a project file that uses the Nexus (version 1) plugin...
I spent hours upon hours, LONG DAYS AND NIGHTS trying to resolve the issue searching all over the internet for solutions and NOTHING helped besides the suggestion to upgrade to Nexus 2, which was not possible for me, or downgrade my OS X to 10.6.7 ...which wouldve been a very annoying procedure for me...

AND THERE YOU WILL FIND THE "0TestTone.nxs" FILE
--ONCE YOU APPLY THAT, TRY TESTING THE SOUNDS IN THE PLUGIN AND IT SHOULD BE WORKING FINE!

How to configure logic Pro X for Xenyx Q1202 USB

Hello. We need to know how to configure our Logic Pro X to accept our Xenyx Q1202 USB. At the moment we cannot record on Logic Pro from a mic plugged into the Xenyx or record any instruments. The sound comes from the mic into the Xenyx and then out of the Xenyx into the headphones but it won't go into Logic Pro X.
We are using a brand new imac, (OSX Yosemite version 10.10) Logic Pro X and Xenyx. The Xenyx seems to be working OK. The microphone and cables work perfectly because we can hear sound from the mic going into the the Xenyx and out through the headphones. The Xenyx Q1202 USB is a Mixer with preamp compressor and USB/Audio interface.
Logic Pro X knows that the Xenyx is connected to the iMac because it has registered that fact. But it's not picking up any sound at all from the Xenyx. We've have tried it on Garage Band and have the same problem.
We have a feeling it might have something to do with the configuration.
Can anyone help please?

Ok.. Lets take this a small small steps at a time..
In Logic's preferences/Audio....
What do you have set as the Input and Output?
The input should be your Xenyx
The Output should be whatever you are going to use to listen to the sound output from your Mac... If you have speakers or headphones connected to the headphone output of your Mac then select that. If you want to listen to sound via the headphones or audio outs of your Xenyx, select the Xenyx.
Now create an audio track in Logic and select the correct inputs to match the inputs you are using on the Xenyx...
Record Arm the track and speak into your mic.. and see if Logic's meters move for that track you created...

How to backup Logic Pro 9

I haven't used Logic Pro 9 for a long time. I notice it's been superseded and no longer on the app store.
I'm about to reformat my entire hard drive. How/where can I make sure I can re-install Logic once I've reformatted?

If you bought it via the app store then you can always download it again via the Purchase tab in the Mac App Store..... using the same Apple ID you used to buy iot in the first place.. You cannot buy it currently on the Mac App Store.. but if you previously bought it from there you can download and install it again...
if you bought it as part of Logic Studio.. (DVD version) then you will have to reinstall it via those DVDs)
I dont recommend trying to re-install it via TM backups... That always seems to cause issues...
Note: If you are planning on upgrading OS X to a laster version.. don't.... unless you absolutely have to as LP9.1.5 or at least 9.1.8 and SL 10.6.8 is still the most stable and best performing combination to date. LP9 and Yosemite is currently really a no go at this time.. due to many issues.

I have bought a MacBook in replacement of my PowerBook G4. I own Logic Pro 7.1 for a long time and cannot install it on my MacBook because it requires version 7.2.
The Apple Store says « sorry, the crossgrade to version 7.2 for use on Intel based computers is not on sale any longer... ».
I feel lost...

Get on the phone to Apple and they should be able to get you to what you need. Might have to bounce around a bit, but you'll probably get it.

How to get Logic Pro Surround into FCP?

I've got an FCP project that is setup as DV NTSC 48kHz 16:9 anamorphic (basically linked Video/Audio - 2 tracks).
I have some surround tracks (mix of audio tracks and instrument tracks) that I've created in Logic Pro that is set at 96kHz 24bit.
If I bounce to PCM (AIFF) for all the tracks in Logic Pro how can I get these tracks into my FCP project that is using DV Video/Audio at 48kHz? I know I can import AIFF files into FCP but because the DV audio is 48kHz so I get all kinds of problems.
Tried to convert the FCP project to 96kHz 24bit audio and that resulted in all kinds of issues with timing and playback. I could not figure out how to split out the DV audio from the video (not sure I want to either).
Not sure best way to proceed? Should I send the FCP project to SoundTrack Pro and then in SoundTrack Pro import the AIFF created by Logic Pro? Once in SoundTrack Pro how to I get it ALL into FCP so I can render to a Movie and then use that in DVD Studio Pro?
Is there someway to convert the DV Audio to 96kHz and retain a synch'd link with the DV video?
Any tips on how to proceed is very welcome.

What sample rate do you ultimately want on the DVD? Do you want Dolby 5.1?
Try burning your sequence to a single DV file. import the file into Logic Pro, bounce to a new 96k file. Check this new file against your video while still in Logic. Back in FCP, make a new sequence, set it to 96k, import the new audio, then import your 96k surround stems.
Although I'm still not sure what you're trying to accomplish with a 96k surround mix.

the time before i worked with Fruity Loops and Reason to create Black Music Beats, freaky, i guess.
i'm sittin here for two weeks and i'm tryin to figure out how it works.
first, i have to know how i create my own beats without usin Loops and Samples, means, i wanna know how to insert Instruments and create Notes + Beats.

i second that. having worked with logic for about a year before i bought the level 1 program, i figured out a pretty good amount, but the video helped fill in the gaps. since you are totally new to logic, i think you'll find it even more helpful. only complaint i have is martin sitter's voice! i know, i know, who cares, but really it's pretty intense. if nothing else, he's just got a funny accent. canadian i think.
