How Long Is the Initial Start-Up Sequence of Time Capsule?

My machine is still showing solid amber after 35+ minutes. I just configured it the first time with AirPort Utility. How long is a normal wait? In the event of what should I do? Thanks.

Your Time Capsule should restart in 30-40 seconds. A solid amber light is not a good sign.
You should do a hard reset, re-configure your Time Capsule and restart the unit.
Hard reset the unit as follows:
Pull the power cable from the TC
Hold in the reset button and CONTINUE to hold it in while you plug the power cord back in.
Release the reset button after 10-15 seconds.
If the Time Capsule does not restart after you re-configure it, it is likely that you have a defective unit.

This depends on what the connection type is for the computer to the Time Capsule - wireless or Ethernet, how much data are involved, what generation of Time Capsule, and whether the transfers are to an HDD or SSD.

Depends on the battery charge level you start at...if it comes out of the box with at least 50% charge, start using it. You do not need to sit and wait for the iPhone to fully charge.

After a time my computer starts flashing it is resolved by turning off Thunderbird. There is no link to how long before the flashing starts.

After an unspecified time my computer starts flashing. I assumed it was a hardware problem but found that every time I switch off Thunderbird the flashing stops. If i turn it back on the flashing has stopped but eventually returns. There is no time link, it might be hours before the flashing starts. It is always resolved if I turn off Thunderbird. I have compacted folders, altered check for new email times. I cannot force the flashing to start.

In System Preferences > Startup Disk, select your internal hard drive by clicking on it. The trouble you are seeing is because the Mac is looking for a network to start from and can't find one. Point it to your hard drive instead.

That's one of the reasons it's not a good idea to mix Time Machine backups and other data on the TC's internal HD. See #C3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for some possible workarounds.

thanks for the help. the answers have varied and i was not sure if all the deviations were a result of the technical issues associated with this product. people are rightfully worried (and over-worried) that a player costing upwards of two hundred dollars may need extra attention, esp. if its sensiti've and moody.
i thought i may have undercharged it. the whole system locked, down to the power button. rotating the batteries didn't help either. i tried for a refund but newegg will only do an exchange/repair. rats ! i am going to have to tought this out.

That it is still working is miraclous.. most have died.. lots started flaking out at 18months to 2years..

You might want to just manually power down your machine and, if necessary, start the installation process anew. You're unlikely to damage anything by doing this. It may have actually installed and is just hanging when it's supposed to reboot.

I started the Apple TV software update at 8:00pm, hoping to watch a movie that night. After two hours, the update was still not complete - the status bar was stuck in the middle - so I left the update running and went to bed. The next morning, the update was finally complete, so it must have taken several hours. I have since installed an AirPort Extreme router - perhaps the next Apple TV software update will go faster! Updates on my iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro are complete within minutes and I expected the same with Apple TV. All in all, I really enjoy the Apple products and technology.

Mine's usually about 5 minutes, but it wouldn't be more than 30-40, if it's any longer.......
You can't do much else besides pull the plug. If it causes further problems you should be able to restore as below:
Get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
    1.    Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
    2.    Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
    3.    Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    4.    Open iTunes.
    5.    Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
On the other hand you may be able to simply start the update again. If however the update continues to fail, you should try the restore routine above.

My exchange was originally to be FTTC enabled March 2012 then June 2012 then September 2012 then December 2012 and now .... wait for it March 2013. The dates are starting appear somewhat arbitrary.
A couple of weeks ago the FTTC cabinet was installed and populated, however just this week the FTTC enable date was pushed back from December 2012 to March 2013. Does it really take another six months after the caninet is installed and populated to enable to sevice?
I have said with BT and not moved to the likes of Sky or Talk Talk (which would be cheaper and on the face of it offer increased speed) because my exchange was soon to be FTTC enabled.
