Files are measured in Bytes, transfer rates are measured in Bits. There are 8 bits in a byte, so divide the transfer rate by 8 to get an idea of the time. USB 2.0 supposedly is up to 480 megaBITS per second, which is 60 megaBYTES per second. There are are 1000 (or possibly 1024, depending who you ask) megabytes in a a gigabyte. Using that as a base, I calculated approximately 5.5 hours. Of course, it's pretty rare for anything to run at maximum speed, but I transferred 200Gb of data using USB 2.0 yesterday, when I upgraded my hard drive - it took just under 6.5 hours, which isn't too far out.

I am running iPhoto '08 on a MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel C2D (MacBook Pro 3,1). I backed up my hard drive contents onto an external hard drive, then formatted my computer and installed Mountain Lion. I then re-installed iPhoto '08 and ran all the updates. Now, I would like to import my old library from the external disk onto my computer without losing my editing and organization; however, when I select "import to library" from iPhoto, the old iPhoto library is not a selectable option.
I know how to "show package contents" and import directly from the Original and Modified folders, but I don't want to lose my organization. Can I simply drag the content of those folders into my new Original and Modified folders? Will iPhoto read that correctly?
I tried to open the old library from the external disk, thinking to export them all to a folder and import from there, but that just opened my new library and none of the old photos were imported or available.
I'm running out of ideas and would appreciate any help you guys can give. Thanks!!

You don't import it.
Just drag the iphoto Library from the external to the Pictures Folder.
Then open it:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.

There may be other ways but I think the easiest is to just reinstall iTunes. when you reinstall it gives you the option to search for all music, just make sure the external is pluged to the PC and on when u do it. Do you use both the internal and external drives for storing music or just the external drive? If both, hold down the option key while dragging media to iTunes to get it to leave the media where it is and add the track location information to iTunes. A better solution would be to relocate the entire iTunes library to the external drive and run it all from one place. This will also make it easier to make backups of the library as you should since you are using this in a professional capacity and your livelihood depends upon it. We can provide advice on how to do this once we know more about your setup (is there an existing library already, and where?)

Quick answer: Select all the tracks on the album, File > get info, and either give them all a single "album artist", or check the "compilation" flag (as in https://discussions.apple.com/message/17670085).
If these are from multiple-CD sets you may also need to enter the appropriate information in the disc number fields. If they are not a multiple CD set you still need to make sure the disc number fields are set correctly or all empty.

As I am using a laptop, with a small amount of hard disk space and due to my excessive amount ofmusic I wish to hold my music on a external hard disk (there for is not anywhere on the c:). However when I tried to import this music into my i-tunes libary previously the itunes program could not find the information for any of my external hard disks. I was hoping someone could help me, as I cannot store all that music on a 50bd hard disk with all my other data.
This is info on the Hard Disk it may help:

Connection: USB 2.0
Plug and Play: No, drivers have to be installed off the lacie disk that came with that product.

OK just so were clear, theres 2 features in iTunes. One is File>Import which will COPY the song from its current location (Be it on an external drive or CD) to the "iTunes Music" folder on the C drive by default.
The Other feature is File>Add File (Or Folder) to Library which does not move or copy the song, it just "Points" iTunes to where the song(s) are located on the system. If you don't want these files on your laptops harddrive, you need to use this.
Now anything you buy on the iTunes Music Store are, by default put in
C;//........My Music/iTUnes/iTUnes Music folder
If you buy things from the store on this laptop, you may want to go thru iTUnes (Not Windows Explorer) to move this folder to the external. Goto Edit>preferences>advanced tab>General Sub Tab and here is where you can change the location of this file tothe external by hitting the "Change" button

You can have iTunes reference the content where ever it is on your HDD without copying the content to the iTunes library, thus using twice the space.
If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.

Additionally if you want the content to then ALSO be located in your iTunes Library folder so everything is all kept together nice and tidy, use this:
Consolidate your files in the iTunes folder
Depending on how you imported items into iTunes, some items in your library might be stored in different locations (in another folder or on another hard disk, for example).
You can consolidate all the files in your library in the iTunes folder—for example, to make it easier to move your library to a new computer.
Choose File > Library > Organize Library.
Select “Consolidate files.”Files remain in their original locations, and copies are placed in the iTunes folder.
To create folders (Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Audiobooks, and so on) inside your iTunes folder, and place all your imported media files in the appropriate folders, select “Reorganize files in the folder ‘iTunes Media.’”
