How long should a battery last?

I had 100% battery and by lunch I am down to less than 20% is that normal?

Depending on what you are doing, normally no. However, a bad cellular signal will degrade the battery faster, a great deal of web surfing that includes intense graphics, as well as game playing with processor and graphics work will also degrade the battery. However, I would say that you have something stuck processing. I would check to see if you have a mail process or something else that is causing this issue.
I have an iPhone 5S with 2 mail accounts, one being my push Exchange account for work, I do a good deal of texting, occasional surfing of the web and while at work have terrible cell signal, but I've yet to get that low in a day, running from 8:00am until almost 11:00pm. I also have Locations services on, wi-fi is always on, and so is Bluetooth. These are things that many say to turn off to conserve battery life.
Try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. If that doesn't help, you can try a restore from a backup. Make a current backup of the phone and then restore, either through iTunes or iCloud, depending on where you made the backup.

how long should my battery last on my ipod classic?

Depends on its age, settings that in use on the device, what it is being used for, and whether or not it is being charged up to 100% each time (usually takes a minimum of about 4 hours or so).
According to Apple tech specs for the current iPod Classic you should be able to get 36 hours of audio playback on a full charge or up to 6 hours of video.

  • How long should the battery last while surfing the web?

I'm curious to know how long the battery on my Macbook should last when just surfing the web and downloading music and videos. I'm getting about 3 hours, I have a feeling it should be a lot longer. I don't have the brightness all the way up and I dim the illuminated keys.

It really depends on your configuration and what you are doing on the web.
If you have minimum RAM, the HDD will be accessed more often, causing heat which causes the fan to come on more often, which uses up power.
While I watch youtube and other forms of streaming video, my fans are usually on, so my battery life is less.
While cruising these boards and such, my battery lasts twice as long as streaming.
3 hrs while downloading music and videos is not a bad figure.
What you might want to do is watch a 2 hour movie and document the amount of time you get from the battery.
Do the same while streaming a movie.
Do some typing and or general surfing sans streaming type stuff.
The above spans a different range of CPU and graphics usage.
Then post back your times here. You will get a better indication of battery condition.
Also, post back with how much RAM you have.

  • How long should the battery last in between uses?

I am just wondering how long the battery should last in between uses? I find mine really goes down FAST..I just purchased this on Sunday and charged it the right amount of time as such. The first time I used it after the initial charge I was downloading 2 music albums and just left it on and by morning the battery was drained..shouldn't it have lasted at least a few days? Its an iPod touch 16g V2.
Then lastnight I had it charged and was browing youtube and in a couple hours the battery was about 1/2 way..is this normal?
    Thanks for your help!

The Touch's Wireless Internet access really chews up the battery time. When you're not using the wireless, go to Settings and turn Wireless off. When you're ready to go browsing, you can always turn it back on. If you already have a wireless access set up in your abode, the Touch will quickly "re-find" it and you'll be browsing again. If you're in a public free wireless area, you'll have to log on, etc.
If I leave wireless on all the time, my iPod Touch battery life is like halved-- sometimes more. The same holds true when viewing movies or video.
    Hope this helps!

  • MacBook Pro-How long should the battery last?

Hi there i just recently got a MacBook Pro a month ago this is my first laptop and i was wondering how long the batery is ment to last for befroe going flat? my macbook is the most recent 13 inch one and its battery only tends to last 6 or 7 hours before i need to charge it again, just wondering if this is normal?

I have the same MacBook Pro, and "eww" is absolutely right. 6-7 hours is what you will get under normal use. Now if you want to see the battery reach 10 hours, dim the screen to 6% and just do nothing. Just kidding, but you get the point.

  • How long should the battery last?

    Hello:
I have a MacBook Pro from february 2007. The battery (which Apple had to replace while under warranty), lasts for about 2:30 to 3 hours, depending on what I am doing. Is that normal? What is the expected/theoretical time it should last before completely dischanging?
    Thanks

That's pretty normal, yes, and nothing to be concerned about.
You can check the "health" of your battery in System Profiler - look at the numbers for Full Charge Capacity and Cycle Count. Health is the percent of the original (new battery) capacity, which is 5500 mAh for a 15" MBP, and 6300 mAh for a 17" MBP, i.e. (current Full charge capacity / 5500 or 6300 * 100). Apple spec is 80% health for 300 cycles. Li-based batteries like the one in your MBP have a useful life of 400-500 charge cycles or 3-4 years, whichever comes first.
    Hope this helps...

  • How long should a battery last on a macbook air and why is my trackpad behaving strangely?

My macbook air is only 6 months old, but I have noticed the trackpad reacting strangely.  Sometimes when I click once it clicks twice for me, and sometimes I only have to hover my fingers over the trackpad and it clicks for me.  Is this the signal of the battery needing replacement already or something else?  My nearest Apple store is 2 hours drive away so I don't want to go there if I don't have to, so advice would be gratefully received

    Lindymac
I have been told that I should  1. drain it low at least once a month, and if it is 2. kept plugged in it will have a shorter life,
Yeah, whoever told you that told you the wrong thing.
You NEVER want to do a full discharge
Keep it plugged in when near a socket so you keep the charging cycles DOWN on your LiPo (lithium polymer) cells / battery.
*Contrary to some myths out there, there is protection circuitry in your macbook and therefore you cannot 'overcharge' it when plugged in and already fully charged
You certainly CAN leave your macbook plugged in all the time, take it off charge and drain the battery down to 15 or 20% every couple of weeks or so.
*However if you dont plan on using it for a few hours, turn it OFF (plugged in or otherwise), ...*you dont want it both always plugged in AND in sleep mode
LiPo (lithium polymer, same as in your macbook) batteries do not need conditioning. However...
LiPo batteries do NOT like to be dropped down to 15% or so often,....key word being "often"
A lot of battery experts call the use of LiPo cells the "80% Rule" ....meaning use 80% of the charge or so,.. then recharge them for longer overall life.
Never let your Macbook die from power, you can corrupt files that way, and the batteries do not like it.
The only quantified abuse seen to LiPo cells is instances when  often the cells are repeatedly drained very low.
*Also, if youre going to store your macbook away for a few weeks or more,... make sure it has at least a 50% or so charge.
*Cycle count / use/ lifespan is one thing that cant be countered.
Proper treatment is another thing. Just because LiPo batteries dont need conditioning in general,.. does NOT mean they dont have an ideal use / recharge environment. Anything can be abused even if it doesnt need conditioning.
Just use and enjoy your new macbook,
    From Apple on batteries:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1446
but really all you would keep in mind is --"consider 15-20% is the same as 0% and recharge it"
and best "tip" is if its near a socket, .....plug it in as long as you can (especially at home) since cycle count on the battery are the "miles that wear out the tires (battery)"

  • HT4623 Hi!My iPAD lost its charge fast !!I've got an iPAD capacity 57,1GB and it has available 55,1GB ,version 7.0.4 .I'd like to know how long does the battery last when it is 100 % charged.

Hi!I've just installed the iOS 7.0.4 operating system and the battery lost its charge at an incredibly speed.I'd like to know how long does the battery last if everything is right when it has 100% charge. Thanks!

I`m `propping` up this thread to to the top of the forums again as it`s been three months and not a single community member or Apple support personnel have replied, which I find discouraging.
I`ve tried everything - both the iOS device(s) and Apple TV have been upgraded (albeit reluctantly) to the latest versions, since iOS 7 looks like crap compared to iOS 6. Both use the same WiFi network. Bluetooth is set to `off`, as per the online tutorials on the Apple Support page.
I also tried shutting all of them down, including the router, waiting 30 seconds and turning the router, then the Apple TV then the iOS device on sequentially with 30 seconds in between each, again as per this discussion forum, and still nothing.
Why can Apple not make a technology, such as AirPlay, work with greater than 10%?
    Any other ideas?
    Come on, people.
    Thanks,
    Doug

How long would the battery last if you were usinng it for wireless msn around the house..
    Thanks,
    Andrew

I never get less than 3 1/2 hours and generally get a bit over 4 hours on a fully charged battery. Before unplugging I make sure BlueTooth and sound is off, the backlight is set as low as I can stand it, I have no disc in the drive, and all the applications and files I intend to use are running and loaded. The three biggest juice eaters are the display's backlight, the hard drive and optical drive so I minimize the use of all three while unplugged.
Are Mac notebooks tough? A couple quick stories: I dropped my G3 iBook off my desk and it hit the concrete floor on its corner breaking off a large piece of plastic. I fashioned a fiberglass bandage and used the computer for 3 months before finding a functional used shell. A customer came in with a horrifically bent PowerBook last summer - it fell out of his motorcycle sidebag while he was driving (35 MPH) and was run over by at least 1 car. It booted up and the display while bent by the mangled case still worked. I actually used Migration Assistent to move his stuff to the new computer. A student brought me his MacBook which he'd dropped down half a flight of stairs at the college. It had been in a lightly padded sleeve. It looked banged up - there were some fractures to the bottom case and the hinge squealed terribly as I opened it. But the computer woke up and it checked out okay. AppleCare basically replaced everything but the innards - the guy's home insurance covered all but the deductible which was a good thing - that is an expensive repair! Would the typical PC survive these accidents? Well, I know from experience the cheap plastic Dell and HP models wouldn't.

That would depend entirely on what you do with it and how much you use it.

  • HELP-How Long Should a Battery Charge Last?

I just had a brand new battery installed in my 2009 MacBook Pro at the Genius Bar. I'm not sure it's holding a charge as long as it should as a new battery. The OS is Mavericks.
How long should a new battery hold a charge?
    Thanks

There is no Set Time any battery will last, Run time of the computer. It is Subjective on what you are doing on the computer minute by minute.
The battery should hold a charge for Months if it isn't used. But I take it that isn't your real question.
All batteries only last so long, whether they are ever used or not and how much or how little they are used. They also have a shelf life. So even though you bought a NEW battery doesn't mean that battery hasn't been sitting on a shelf for the last 4 years and in that time it has used up its Shelf Life.
If Apple replaced it you have a 90 day warranty on it. If you find it doesn't work as it did before take it back in and ask to have it checked.

  • Ow long should the battery last on an iPod touch 4g?

My iPod touch 4g with IOS4 (I daren't upgrade to 5 after hearing the battery problems people have had with it!) takes two hours to fully charge and the battery lasts for only a measly 3-4 hours before I need to chage it up again! As you can understand this makes it pretty much useless as a portable device. It drains faster when using certain apps, especially most games, windows live messenger and the Facebook app, it even drains while switched off so I cannot rely on the alarm function to wake me up in the morning either! It has been like this ever since I boughtbit brand new at christmas from HMV. I payed a lot of money for my iPod and I will feel incredibly cheated if this is the best it can do. Could anyone tell me how long an iPod touch 4g battery should last, and how long yours does so I can see if the problem's widespread or if I have a faulty battery? I would be so grateful. Also if the poor battery life is a common problem what can I do to make it last longer? And if I have a product with a faulty battery which I did not purchase from an apple store how do I go about getting repairs? Thank-you for your time.

iPods can only last about 2 hours playing games 3-4 hours on wi-fi 10 hours music 7 days on standby so yea you have a good capacity some dont even last for an hour like my old one apple needs to improve battery life also don't over charge or leave case on well charging it will lower battery capacity and fri the battery hope this was useful =P

  • How long should my Style last on a charge under 'normal' use?

I picked up a Style in January and had it connect via our corporate BES.  I get a few dozen emails a day and reply only occassionally via the BB.  More often I use my PC during daylight hours.  After hours I get a dozen or so emails, a few (3 - 5) facebook updates, a text message now and again (0 - 2) and little else on a daily basis.  I take only support calls when I am not near a land line which averages one or two per day.  I've turned down the backlight to 50% and keep only the minimum number of messages.  I try to reply without earlier messages when I can.  I've tailored down my use of the Style to as low as I dare and yet I cannot get more than a few hours of standby time.  If I get on a call that last any length of time at all (20 mins or longer) I get nervous that the phone will lose the radio.
I'm using a Style 9760 with 6.0 bundle 2426  with Sprint.  I have 224,720,665 Bytes of Free Memory and resetting the battery doesn't affect this.  I have the basic apps but also Facebook for BB and Google Maps, neither of which are on unless I am using it.  I typically only have the basic 5 apps that come with the BB running.
This doesn't seem to get any better the longer I have the phone.  I've tried some suggestions from the local Sprint store but they don't seem to affect it to any significant degree.
I'm just concerned that the style was designed to be charged a few times each day.  Can someone give me a clear idea how long this should last on standby and when I am using it either as a phone or a text device?

    Hey bmcnamara,
    Welcome to the forums.
From your post it sounds like you are doing most things right to save on battery power. One additional thing you can try is turning off locations services. If you use Maps or Facebook Places or any other application that use GPS then will not want to turn this off.
Here is how to turn of location services on your BlackBerry smartphone. Options - Device - Location Settings.

  • How long should a Mac last?

I bought a Macbook Pro in April 2010 and just found out that I need to have the logic board replaced. This computer cost me almost $3000 when I bought it and is now going to cost me another $700 to fix.
I am not happy about this. When you buy a $3000 piece of computer equipment, you expect it to last, at the very least, until it's obsolete. My wife has a 3 yr old DELL laptop that is still functioning perfectly well. My 6yr PC is still going as well as when I bought it, and it is powered on 24/7.
I guess what bothers me the most about this is that this is my first apple mac and I expected it to be of superior quality to its competitors. And for apple to be a superior company in terms of customer support. I was clearly wrong.
How long do you expect your mac to last?

I know I said I would sign off on the topic, but people keep fuelling it.
It would be nice if Apple gave a longer warranty, but discussing Apple policy is not what these forums are for, and in fact is specifically forbidden by the Apple Support Communities Terms of Use.
Are you serious? We aren't allowed to discuss Apple policy on their forum? That seems a little censored. What are they scared of? Maybe they might learn something.
But I get the idea that you are more interested in complaining than in getting actual feedback, since you seem uninterested in hearing that Macs are actually quite reliable.  If all you want to do is complain about Apple, you'll find this is not a place where you will find much sympathy.
I am genuinely interested in how long people believe their mac should last. If everyone says that I shouldn't expect my laptop - built by Apple, a $400b company - to last 2yrs, then I will happily give them my money. I'll feel stupid for doing it since I expected more, but I'll do it. If on the other hand the majority say they expect their macs to last, say, 5 yrs, then I will go in asking them to repair it at a discount. Having said all that, a little sympathy on the side would also be nice
I am not out to bash Apple. My household has more than enough Apple products to make us look like fanboy house. I just want to know what people expect from such a prestigious brand.
