My son got an iPod touch 4g for Christmas. He plays on it a lot. Usually a game or YouTube. His battery is only lasting about two hours. Is this normal or is it a defective battery? It is very frustrating to him. I use my iPhone and iPad for hours on end, so I am wondering if this is normal or if I need to bring it into Apple.

It shouldn't take that long at all, assuming the update has already been download from the Internet (via iTunes).
Has the iPod shown the Apple logo during this process?
Try closing iTunes. See if it closes. If not, End the Task. Then open iTunes back up and see if the iPod is recognized. If it is, restore it...

I gave my daughter a 20gig ipod about two years ago. It crashed, apparently a hard drive problem. It was no longer under warranty when she told me about it. I think she was embarassed that somehow it was her fault it didn't work anymore so she didn't tell me for a few months.
I got myself a 30gig ipod with color screen in May. Now it has crashed. My screen displays a drawing of an ipod with a sad face on it. I tried the reset (menu/select button routine), I tried using different usb ports, I tried charging it for a while. But its dead.
We replaced our pc about 6 months ago, so I can't blane it on the pc, the old ipod connected to a different pc.
I'm 53 years old and treated the ipod gently. I mostly use it in my car since I have along drive to and from work.
Is it assumed that a new ipod can only physically last a year or less? I spent $800 and nothing to show for it.

Firstly, I do not mean that you and your daughter treated your iPods badly. I have bought at least 10 different iPods for my family members or friends, only 1 mini iPod needed to sent it repairing. Few of them have the problems and managed to be solved, see details for the solutions.
iPod's hard drive may get damaged due to heat, humidity or altitude, and most cases caused by corrupted iPod software.
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.

3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.

a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.

A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Ok, I recieved a refurbished iPod touch 4 gen from Apple after my previous ipod touch 4 gen had problems with the home button not responding. This "new" ipod works great, but recently I've been having problems with the battery... I downloaded the recent update for fixing numerous things with the ipod touch from Apple... And itworks great again... But I'm curious as to WHY my battery is loosing its charge so fast... I'll be playing ANGRY BIRDS SPACE on my ipod for like 20-30 minutes, with the screen brightness lowest that it could go and on a full charge, then press the home button and the battery is half gone! should I set up a repair with Apple? Or is this normal? I just hate going through the whole process of the repair and then getting an ipod that may not work as good as this one... I do have a lot of memmory on my ipod, its a 32 GB, black, not dropped or scratched, 9.9 Gb is used for: 6 movies, 17 apps, and 67 songs... Once it is charged fully, its charged. Nothing further happens leaving it plugged in (although doing so won't hurt it). Once it is charged, charging stops, completely.
These sorts of conditioning myths are really nothing more than a hold over from previous, older battery technology, and these ideas have been outdated for many years now. They simply do not apply to modern smart Lithium battery technology.

I can't remeber my iPod touch 5th generation's pass code. I know the four numbers included, just not the sequence. It disabled yesterday at 6pm, and it's now 11am and still disabled. Also, when I first got my iPod, my friend synced it with her iTunes, so I can't plug it into mine.
I have a lot of pictures and songs that I really don't want to lose, by just restoring it, if I can even do that.
So, my question is either,
1. Up to how many hours can my iPod be disabled for? (The new iOS won't tell us!) And how long will it disabled after each try??
2. Is there any way to get the pass code off my iPod touch without losing all my apps, music, pictures, ect.?

If it says "iPad is disabled" it is never going to time out. At that point, your only option is to restore it in iTunes.
If you have a backup in place now (in iCloud or iTunes) once restored, you can restore from backup, but the only way to un-disable the device is to restore it.

Purchased Ipod classic dec 2007 80gb. It has now died son has used it most days to watch movies. We have now had to buy a new 160 gb one.

Ditto exactly what GLNHP stated above... I have a 80GB video still kicking around and working well daily for music and my original 160 Classic was just traded-up for a new 160 Classic to get the genius mixes.
None of which have ever experienced issue. However DO NOTE that classic does have a HDD so it can't be "thrown around" or dropped like a solid state memory player (such as the nano).
I've always used the classic devices in a secure and pretty much stationary role, it has never seen alot of movement such as exercise routines or the insides of school bags.
Additionally my old original ipod was working well until it was dropped and the case started to open, and that's when the video ipod was acquired in about 2005!

How long should a new replacement battery last on a Macbook 13 inch 2008?

It's in the the title I guess. I have a 13 inch Black MacBook from 2008. My Battery was still giving me nearly two hours and the cycles was well into the 900s. I'm OCD about taking care of it. So what should I expect out of this new battery? The same performance? When I first got this Macbook it could nearly get me through a whole 7 hour school day on one charge. I don't need that anymore but I would appreciate some where close for the money I paid for the new battery.

The new battery should behave very much like an original battery...that said, every battery behaves a little differently so be flexible in what you see. If it lasts much less time, then have it tested. But overall, should be reasonably close to the same behavior.
