How long should Flash video be?

Hi, my hosting company tells me that our company is using too
much bandwith and they'll have to charge us more. We have videos
that are in the 5 minute-range. In fact, one of our largest is 5
minutes and is 6.29 MB (on home page at urbanministries.com).
Another is 8.32 MB. Do those file sizes seem extraordinarily big?
Is there a rule of thumb when it comes to video length, size on the
Web?

if I were you I would change providers if possible. I've got
around 684 Gigs per month in band width for around $15/month
I have videos that are 20 & 30 minutes long also some
that are 2-8 minutes. Right now I use about 40% of my bandwidth per
month and thats before putting ALL my videos in flash, and since
.wmv files are larger than the .flv files I'm sure that will go
down as well allowing me to up the quality of the videos as
well....
but yeah if you would like to know the company I go thru PM
me and I'll be glad to give you the link.......

  • How Smooth should Flash Video Play on 6Mbps DSL?

    Hello,
I am noticing a lot of stuttering on my Flash videos viewed over the internet, Win 7 64bit and IE 8, Opera & Chrome.
Here is a link to some tests - http://watchmymvp.com/Encoding%20Test/EncodingTest.htm
Please give some feedback on your playback experience if you would!
    Some background:
I am a video producer who shoots, edits, encodes and manages a few websites.  I am very familiar with bitrates and encoding.
The videos I am seeing stuttering on are created from HD content and were encoded in Adobe Media Encoder at a bitrate from 775kbps down to 400kbps.  When I play these through my 6meg DSL connection there is a constant random stutter like the video is stuggling with a low buffer.  This happens even after the download bar shows the entire video is downloaded.
So am I expecting too much from Flash video?  Will it always be an "internet" experience and not smooth?
When I double-click the .swf files in Windows Explorer they play just fine, very smooth.
The Flash player is the latest which was uninstalled and re-installed
    Thanks!

    Thanks for your reply.
So as a content creator, what can I do to improve the playback?
I have examples on that page that are at 400kbps and still stutter.  I would think my 6meg connection could playback a 400kbps video?
Or might I have a problem with something on my end?
I need to figure this out as work needs to be put on client's websites.
    Thanks for your insights.

Hello Vicente, thanks for your reply.
So the videos did not show stuttering when you watched them?  Could I ask what your computer specs are? - Mac/PC, browser etc...
I get a random stutter which shows up more when there is camera movement.
I am trying to track down why this is happening when the .swf file played locally plays perfectly.
Since I an in the video industry, I would like these files to play as if they are on a television is that is possible.
    Thanks for your input.

  • Flashing BIOS - how long should process take?

if you flash the BIOS from within Windows on a notebook - how long should the process take? is a black screen normal?

There really isn't much of anything that you can do at this point.  About the only thing to try is unplug any USB devices that are connected to the laptop and pray.  If that doesn't fix it you'll need to take it to a service center to have it repaired.  That will more than likely cost you in excess of $100 US unless you have access to an eprom burner and the knowledge and skill to use it.  Since you had to ask what to do next when the bios update failed, the chances of your having one and knowing how to use it are essentially non-existent.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • How long should you use the Macbook is the fan is at Max?

Hey all, the reason i ask is because sometimes when i visit a site with embedded video the CPU rises and heats up so the fan goes up to max. How long should you keep there with out damaging anything? Sometimes the videos are 45 mins, there tv shows and by 5th min is heated up and i dont want to keep it running for the rest of the 45 mins and wreck somthing. Whats the max time for that?

Not really an answer but I was wondering where your computer is located or how you are using it? My kids were putting a quilted blanket on their lap and then running their notebook on top of the blanket. The blanket had a terrible insulating affect on the computer. And to make matters worse, sometimes the blanket would block the fan exhaust! I had to scold them and teach them to put something else on the blanket over their lap, like a book, and then put the notebook on the book. That really stopped the fan from running a lot.
It's just something to be aware of. The MB will run cooler if there is space all around it.

how long should my battery last on my ipod classic?

Depends on its age, settings that in use on the device, what it is being used for, and whether or not it is being charged up to 100% each time (usually takes a minimum of about 4 hours or so).
According to Apple tech specs for the current iPod Classic you should be able to get 36 hours of audio playback on a full charge or up to 6 hours of video.

  • How long should your iPad stay at a full charge

How long should my ipad2 stay full charge?

The amount of time left on the battery depends on what you are doing with the iPad. Apple provides estimates based on certain assumptions:
    Battery Life6
Up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching video, or listening to music
Up to 9 hours of surfing the web using cellular data network
Charging via power adapter or USB to computer system
Up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching video, or listening to music
Up to 9 hours of surfing the web using cellular data network
Charging via power adapter or USB to computer system
Up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching video, or listening to music
Up to 9 hours of surfing the web using cellular data network
Charging via power adapter or USB to computer system
It's impossible to make a judgment on your situation because there are too many variables involved. If you believe you are not getting the battery life you should, then take it back to see about a replacement.

  • Asset encoding has been showing for almost 12 hours now. How long should it take?

How long should it take to burn a 27 minute movie. It states that it is encoding video with 1 minute left. Has been that way for 9 hours now.Any suggestions?

    Hi
Encoding time depends on several things (mosty common are)
    • Free Space on Start-Up (Mac OS) get's low eg less than 5Gb - and encoding time get's stupidly long
I never go under 25Gb free spae
    • What You feed iDVD. Some Codecs/Fileformats just get's encoded stright of - but others needs to be converted first (re-coded) by iDVD first - can also take eons of time.
So Please tell where Your material came from and in what Codec/File format
    • What Mac was Used to encode. My Mac G3 600MHz - took about 30 hours per hour movie. My dG5 2GHz was close to 1:1 - My new MacBook Pro 2.2GHz i7 - Have not tried yet - May be even faster ?

  • If watching iplayer how long should my iphone 4 last

HOw long should Iphone 4 last if watching iplayer ?

Video playback on a brand new iPhone according to Apple is up to 10 hours (audio up to 40 hrs).  Depending on how old the iPhone is, how many cycles on the battery, how many deep discharge cycles, the temperatures it has been subjected to (especially any lengthy exremes of heat or cold), how bright the sceen setting is, whether streaming over 3G or wifi - all will decrease that ideal number from a bit to a lot.

  • How long should Loading Installation Information take with a formatted Drive?

The OS was corrupted when installed over an incompatible 10.6 version of Centrify.  It should have been uninstalled prior to installing Lion, so I was hoping to do a fresh install without restoring anything related to older applications to sort out network hang conditions.  Restoring from Time Machine does not appear to offer selective restore in terms of Apps and Users.
I am now waiting for more than hour at a window over the prompt "To set up the installation of Mac OS X 10.7, click Continue" that says:
To download and restore Mac OS X, your computer's eligibility will be verified with Apple. This just has a throbber spinning in front of the message
Loading Installation Information... "  I have about 16mbit/sec Internet connectivity, how long should this phase of the reinstall operation take?
When I first installed Lion, a bootable image of the initial version of Lion was made that was able to restore Lion to an erased drive in about 28 minutes.  It seems that image has been disabled by changes the MacBook boot flash.  Is there a way to be better prepared, and how long should this process take starting with an erased drive?

Sorry to hear that saga. This time download another Lion installer from MAS by going to purchases and holding the option key. When downloaded it will appear in /Applications. Save it off to several different places on your disk and off.
Also, consider keeping bootable clones with SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner.
That way if you have a problem, just boot up from the clone and keep on working until you're ready to fix.

  • HT204655 how long should the update and subsequent uploading take (to start)?

I am trying to upload my photos to photo (icloud) from my old macbook pro (2010) and it has been over 24 hours since i started and it is still showing 'updating...'?
How long should this take? I have tried the usual - restart photo; restart mac; turn off and on icloud upload.
the file is about 9000 iphone photos and 100 short videos.
    Thanks for any help.

How long is a piece of string?
Essentially it should not take too long (in my experience 20 minutes max from start to finish) although there are many, many factors that can affect the time taken to download and install the upgrade. Namely the reliability of your broadband connection, reliability of your router/firewall; reliability of the wireless connection (assuming you connect to your router wirelessly); downstream bandwidth supplied to your location by your ISP; the 'health' of your iMac; how much disk space for example? This is not an exhaustive list by any means.
If it's any help I would try the wired connection (ethernet) rather than wireless, I would log into your router's interface and double-check it's maintaining a good connection - if necessary reboot the router and try the upgrade again. Try and make sure there's only you using it at the time you do the upgrade.

  • About how long should it take to process a 1:40m movie in iMovie 11?

about how long should it take to process a 1:40m movie in iMovie 11?

    Hi
And the free space avail. on the Start-Up (Macintosh HD) also play an important role.
For interlaced SD-Video Quality (as on old fat TVs) - I never go less than 25Gb free space (per hour Video)
    For HD - about 4 - 5 times more
If strange Video-Codecs - that might need lot's of conversions to be used - then multiply with 2 - 3 times more and Hope.
I make the conversion of raw material first outside iMovie to make things easier.
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
    • Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
    • No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
    • Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
    • Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
    • Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
    • Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show
    • No File Vault on - Important
    • NO - TimeMachine - during iMovie/iDVD work either ! IMPORTANT
    • Lot's of icons on DeskTop/Finder also slows down the Mac noticeably
    • Start a new User-Account and log into this and iMovie get's faster too - if a project is in a hurry
    • And let Mac run on Mains - not just on battery

I am having this problem.  At first with the new iPhone 5, and then with the iPad 2.  I am not sure why this is happening.
My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps.  I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them.  The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage.  It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup.  With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up.  The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete.  This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems.

  • How long SHOULD battery last?

I've read 100's of posts on this and have yet to get an answer--how long should I expect my battery to last when my ipod is on, with screen on (auto lock on NEVER), doing nothing, no apps open (actually I removed all apps for this test), wifi OFF, location OFF, everything possible OFF, so just the screen on. This is ipod touch 8gb "3rd" gen, has os 4.2 but problem was same before with os 3.1. I get about 8 hours before battery dies. Is this normal? Warranty is just about up and I need to decide whether to pursue this with Apple. Thanks!

Not as long as if you let the screen turn off. As lllaass mentioned, the screen uses a lot of power and as far as I know, when Apple test an iPod's battery time, it's on the assumption that you do not leave the screen on. Their figures would be based on that and it's largely the reason why watching a video has less battery time that listening to audio.
So if you're not watching video, the battery will last a lot longer if you set the auto lock to - say 1 minute. More to the point, if you're not looking at the screen, why leave it turned on?
My own choice is for the auto lock to kick in after 1 minute. That way, - if I'm browsing the music section, or reading a web page or browsing my Apps, my constant navigation around the Touch keeps the screen on. If I stop doing that and simply listen to music, after 1 minute the sreen turns off and battery time is extended.
You say that you have yet to get an answer to how long the battery should last. If you check the technical specifications for the latest iPod Touch, http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/specs.html you'll see that playback time for video is 7 hours and playback time for audio is 40 hours from full charge. So if you have auto lock on never, I suggest that 8 hours is probably reasonable since it's the virtually same as watching video.
