Update2: There is something very wrong with wireless on mountain lion recovery. I don't know what the problem is, but this link may explain:
    http://osxdaily.com/2012/08/10/os-x-mountain-lion-10-8-1-beta-released-for-dev-t esting-may-include-wi-fi-fix/
Wireless recovery would start out with over 25 hours estimated and kept on failing. It turns out to be a two step process of downloading a few Mbytes then a 4Gbyte .dmg file, but I couldn't even download the Mbyte file. I bought the thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter, plugged it in, restarted recovery and download of a little more than 4Gbytes took less than an hour. My limiting factor was probably comcast home internet rate of 12Mbps. The wi-fi wireless connection should be able to do over 100Mbps, so wireless shouldn't be much slower than wired, except wi-fi wireless is broken. Now that ML is installed and updated, wi-fi seems fine now, as I am using it right now, but I haven't tried downloading a big file yet.
Don't use wi-fi wireless for Mountain Lion recovery.

    From the above link...
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

How long should it take my iPad to charge?

What model iPad? 1,2,3,4 or mini? When you ask a question, you need to provide enough info to answer.
I assume you mean from near 0% to 100%.
Depending on the model, it takes 3 to about 8 hours.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • TS4062 How long should it take to set up my ipad using itunes?

How long should it take to set up my ipad using itunes? Everything went blank on my iPad and I am attempting set it up using itunes. It has been connected for 45 min and gives me a set up incomplete message if I attempt to exit.

I did some check on available sources on the topic and it seems that the app data is often causing a slow backup:
    What causes the slow backup?
It’s the Apps! Apps on the iPad might store data to work properly. Some do store a lot, some don’t. For instance a game saves some highscore data (not very much), where a newspaper App or a rss reader might save updated data (can be very much). I believe lots of iPhone users, that experiencing slow backups, have problems with one or many Apps that are leaking in terms of saving tons of tiny files to the iPhone, especially when they have a lot of Apps and when they did backups cross devices (i.e. iPhone 2G to iPhone 3GS).
The article on this website http://apdevblog.com/slow-itunes-sync-backup/ should provide more information and hopefully a fix for your issue!

Small window "Optimizing your Mac" (see below) has been on my Desktop for over a month now.
How long should I keep it (... without "impacting the performance or the battery life")?

Closing it when it first appeared wouldn't have stopped the 'optimization' so you could have closed it any time and can do so now - in any case optimization will have long since completed.

  • How long should my brand new iPod Touch 4g be taking to update to 5.1.1.?

I got a new iPod Touch 4g today and it came with 4.3.3, and with 5.1.1 out, I figured I should update it to that. So, I told it to update. And I know it said it'd take a while, but it's been about 5 hours now and the progress bar under the apple on the iPod isn't even a fourth full yet. And it hasn't moved in at least 4 hours.
I'm just wondering if this is supposed to take this long or if there's possibly something wrong and how I can go about fixing it if there is.
    Thank you!

It is taking too long. Stop the restore. Force close iTunes if necessary. Disconnect the iPod and reboot the computer.
Then connect the iPod to the computer and restore from backup. You may have to place the iPod in Recovery mode to allow the restore.

  • How long should you leave your iPad 2 on for it's first charge

how long you your iPad be on for it's first charge

You don't have to charge it up to 100% on the first or every charge, nor run it down to empty everytime before you re-charge it. This page just recommends going through at least one charge cycle per month :
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

  • How long should my Style last on a charge under 'normal' use?

I picked up a Style in January and had it connect via our corporate BES.  I get a few dozen emails a day and reply only occassionally via the BB.  More often I use my PC during daylight hours.  After hours I get a dozen or so emails, a few (3 - 5) facebook updates, a text message now and again (0 - 2) and little else on a daily basis.  I take only support calls when I am not near a land line which averages one or two per day.  I've turned down the backlight to 50% and keep only the minimum number of messages.  I try to reply without earlier messages when I can.  I've tailored down my use of the Style to as low as I dare and yet I cannot get more than a few hours of standby time.  If I get on a call that last any length of time at all (20 mins or longer) I get nervous that the phone will lose the radio.
I'm using a Style 9760 with 6.0 bundle 2426  with Sprint.  I have 224,720,665 Bytes of Free Memory and resetting the battery doesn't affect this.  I have the basic apps but also Facebook for BB and Google Maps, neither of which are on unless I am using it.  I typically only have the basic 5 apps that come with the BB running.
This doesn't seem to get any better the longer I have the phone.  I've tried some suggestions from the local Sprint store but they don't seem to affect it to any significant degree.
I'm just concerned that the style was designed to be charged a few times each day.  Can someone give me a clear idea how long this should last on standby and when I am using it either as a phone or a text device?

    Hey bmcnamara,
    Welcome to the forums.
From your post it sounds like you are doing most things right to save on battery power. One additional thing you can try is turning off locations services. If you use Maps or Facebook Places or any other application that use GPS then will not want to turn this off.
Here is how to turn of location services on your BlackBerry smartphone. Options - Device - Location Settings.
Let us know how you make out.

  • Should I format the Time Machine HD before using it on new i7?

I have been using the external HD on my G5. Now that I am moving to the new iMac 27", should I format the HD and start with a clean drive for the new Mac?
If so, does it make any difference if the HD is formatted on the Mac or a PC?

Your choice -- that's optional, not necessary. If you don't, when you do your first backup, you'll get a prompt allowing you to either start new backups or continue using the old ones. See #B5 in the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip,* also at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum.

Yes. Do it on a Mac. See #5 in the FAQ Tip for details.

  • How long should I leave on?

If I'm downloading files which are going to take days, is it safe to leave my Powerbook G4 on, while on charge? What's the longest this should be left on?
    Many thanks
    L.Dudley

It's perfectly safe to leave your Powerbook on indefinitely, provided that it's connected to AC power, and it's given plenty of airspace around and particularly underneath it to enable it to cool itself as needed.
What sort of download are you embarking on, that's going to take several days? If I were you, I'd certainly look for an alternate way of obtaining the file(s) rather than expect my internet connection to hold up without interruption for that long.
