The Internet connection can do it slow or fast. If it's slow, it will take more time

Update2: There is something very wrong with wireless on mountain lion recovery. I don't know what the problem is, but this link may explain:
    http://osxdaily.com/2012/08/10/os-x-mountain-lion-10-8-1-beta-released-for-dev-t esting-may-include-wi-fi-fix/
Wireless recovery would start out with over 25 hours estimated and kept on failing. It turns out to be a two step process of downloading a few Mbytes then a 4Gbyte .dmg file, but I couldn't even download the Mbyte file. I bought the thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter, plugged it in, restarted recovery and download of a little more than 4Gbytes took less than an hour. My limiting factor was probably comcast home internet rate of 12Mbps. The wi-fi wireless connection should be able to do over 100Mbps, so wireless shouldn't be much slower than wired, except wi-fi wireless is broken. Now that ML is installed and updated, wi-fi seems fine now, as I am using it right now, but I haven't tried downloading a big file yet.
Don't use wi-fi wireless for Mountain Lion recovery.

  • HT1766 How long should it take for a icloud back up of about 6.4GB?  It has been running all night and not complete.

How long should it take for an icloud backup of about 6.4GB?  I selected a manual backup and it has been running all night?  Thanks

That's going to depend alot on your internet connection speed. 6.4 GB is alot of data, especially if your connection speed is slow (DSL) or low-end cable speeds of ~1.5 Mbps.

  • How long should it take for the iOS 5 iPhone software to update?

How long should it take for the iOS 5 iPhone software to update? Mine is taking a ridiculous amount of time, to the point where I need to stop it as i need to go out and need my phone !

Depends on how strong your wifi connection is.
you can try a reset hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release.

  • How long should it take for an answer on a question Cisco agree's is a good question and agree to work on it?

    Guys,
How long should it take for an answer on a question Cisco agree's is a good question and agree to work on it?
I have an RVS-4000 and it sends me error message by email on errors. Yet I do not have any documentation on what these error messages mean. I asked these question last May and still have not received any answers.
I was told it had been forwarded to a engineer for creatation of this documentation in May. Here we are...
Do any of you agree we need this type of documentation on our Routers? I think it should have been created before these where sold and included with these Routers. Maybe if we all voted on it. Then It might still happen?
Please add you reply's to this. As it might help to get things moving...

My iPhone 5 has been dead for weeks.. I just now found it and plugged it in, how long should it take for it to turn on??

I think that the battery is dead because , if you don't charge it for a long time the battery will ruin. You must wait, with the charger plugged, for a long time to turn it on. it could be also a worse problem and you have to replace your battery

  • How long does it take OX S Lion to download?

    Hello there,
I'm trying to set up my home office, I just installed high speed internet today, and I am unable to view how long it will take OX S Lion to download.
(or frankly i just dont know how to do so)
I'm a new mac book user as well, so go easy on me.
    Thanks!

Best case is about 45 minutes, but that does not happen often.
At this writing, there are also IOS 6, 10.7.5, and 10.8.2 going on at the same time.

how long should it take to "finish download" for 42 less than 12 mb pictures to my iMac from my iPad?

  • How long should it take for a new vault to be created?

I have a late 2009 27" iMac i7 with 16GB of RAM. I use referenced masters. The masters are located on a Drobo connected with FW 800. The internal drive on the iMac is a 1TB drive. The Aperture library is located on that drive and is 158.39 GB. I have about 110,000 master images. Most of them are RAW files shot with a succession of Nikon bodies (D100, D200, D300, and D400). I am in the process of moving a vault off of the Drobo and onto another external hard drive. I started the vault creation on Friday morning (3 days, 6 hours ago) and Aperture shows that it is still working on it.
I have read the germane threads and have given it over three days now to complete. There is very little, if any, progress on the visual indicator that the task is nearing completion. It shows the job as about halfway done. However, Aperture still shows as responding in the Force Quit menu. Aperture is currently using up 11.2 GB of available RAM. Normally, I don't have any memory swaps. Now, page ins are 13,418,681, page outs are 7,226,523, and swaps are at 43.70 GB. CPU utilization shows Aperture consistently at about 170% of capacity.
I really don't want to force quit Aperture for fear of what state it might leave my database. On the other hand, I need my machine and I can't use it until this process finishes or I force quit it.
How do I know if Aperture is actually doing something or is it stuck in an infinite loop? What are the repercussions of doing a force quit? How long should I wait to see if it will actually finish on its own accord?
Any insights, comments, or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
    Rick

    Rick-
You are not being ignored. I for one just do not know what to say because it depends on how badly you need the use of the Mac and how at-risk your data are. One thought would be to just use the Mac (letting Aperture page out while other apps use the RAM) but that is a risk if the RAM is frozen for some reason. It does sound like you may have a memory leak.

What I do not understand is what you mean by "moving a vault off the Drobo." I would think that if you are making a new Vault that would involve the internal drive and the new drive, no major interaction with the very slow Drobo except to point to Masters there (I could be wrong).
Also could some of your files be managed on the Drobo rather than referenced?

  • How long should it take for a reinstall of mountain lion

    Hi
I have erased my HD and am reinstalling Mountain Lion. At the suggestion of apple care techs since I've been having kernel panic and overheating issues since upgrading.
Anyhow the erase and reinstall started 6 hours ago and it says it still has 11 hours to go. using wifi.
    Is this normal?
Can I go and plug it in via Ethernet in the middle of this in an attempt to speed things up?
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Connect by Ethernet and try downloading from Ethernet. If the speed doesn't increase, you can restart and see if the speed increases the next time you start the download, but you'll lose the download progress

  • After restoring my iPhone 4s how long should it take for it to function?

I just restored my iPhone through itunes on MacBook Pro but after the restoration the screen went black with just the apple icon on it. Should it be this way? and if so for how long? I'm hoping its just processing the info but its been a good 20 minutes already and its still completely unresponsive

Reset the iPhone, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart. Usually takes about 10 seconds of holding both buttons.
If still nothing and you decide to Restore again. Restart computer. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer. Hold both home and power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. This usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Restore the iPhone Firmware.
If still problem, all iPhone 4S have full Warranty, make Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution.

  • How long should it take for my iPad to fully charge?

My ipad takes forever to charge

"Forever" is a bit nebulous. Can you possibly give an estimate in hours? I rarely pay attention to how long it takes my iPad to charge as I put it on charge when I go to sleep at night and it's charged when I take it off in the morning. From dead to full, probably around 3 hours, though.
Are you charging it using the included charger? Or are you trying to charge it by connecting it to a USB port on your computer? Many computers don't have USB ports that provide enough power to charge an iPad unless the screen is off and then only very slowly.

  • How long should it take to update lion?

I downloaded the lion update and it has been 24 hrs and my screen says installing 1 item .. Moving items into place.. Is is normal for it to take so long?

If it's been moving items into place for all that time than it's stuck.  Others had this also and they rebooting and things were fine.
