How long should it take to copy a photo CD to the hard drive?

I have a CD with about 100 photos - 1.5-2MB each - and it is so far taking over an hour and a half to copy onto the hard drive, still not finished. There is really no
way to tell if anything is happening, or if there is some error.

That does sound a bit excessive. How was the CD created and how much free space do you have on your boot drive?

  • How long does it take to reinstall Mountain Lion on a new hard drive?

Due to performance/corruption issues, I erased my MacBook pro's hard drive. Now, I'm attempting to reinstall Mountain Lion (then do the upgrade to Mavericks). However, after about 5 hours of it doing the reinstall and downloading files (I have it connected to a network cable), I went to bed.
At some point during the night, the process seems to have timed out. Evidently, I will need to start from the beginning of the installation process.
    My Questions:
    How long should I take?
Is there a way I can prevent the MacBook from going into sleep mode so I can leave it unattended?
Since I've worked in corporate IT, I'm more than familiar with the Windows reinstall process and generally know what's going on and how long portions of an installation should take. Is there a way I can have the installation tell me what's going on?
Any other tips/tricks or general information?
    Thank you for any assistance.
    Rich

Wish I had your DSL speed.  iTunes suggests I have about 7 1/2 hours still to go!  Just glad it is giving it it's best shot.
    Thanks for your reply.

  • How long does it take to get a warranty replacement solid state hard drive?  I have been waiting 3 weeks

When I updated to Mavericks, I received a warning about possible issues with my MacBook.  The next day, October 24th, I brought it into the OakBrook, IL and the Genius was not aware of any notification, so he simply told me to be watchful for any problems.  October 28th, my hard drive failed.  I traveled to Minneapolis for work and brought my MacBook to the Mall of America Store on October 29th, where the Genius said that I needed to get my hard drive replaced. They thought they would get the replacement drive in stock and repaired within a couple days, but stock never arrived and I had to return home November 1st.  From there I called several Chicagoland stores asking if they have the drive in stock, and they could not tell me.  I called Apple's customer support and they, in turn, told me that they cannot tell me if specific stores have it in stock.  They told me I would have to contact the store to find that out!  November 2nd, I resorted to going to the biggest store in Chicagoland, the store on North Avenue in Chicago.  My Macbook has now been with that store for 11 days.  Each time I call the store they tell me that the shipment has not arrived, but cannot provide any eta information. This must be a very large problem to cause such a back-order.  What expectation can be set on the replacement arriving?
I have been a huge proponent for the gold standard Apple has typically set with support & customer service.  Unfortunately, this latest situation has been a complete debacle and has really shaken my confidence.  Any help would be most appreciated.

the users here can not give you a timeframe on backordered parts status.
Apples 'gold standard' service can not make older parts manufacture materialize faster than is empirically possible.
    contact Apple on status
    Peace

  • Downloaded and installed os x yosemite and now mac book pro will not restart? How long should this take? Is there something wrong? Please helpthanks in advance

MAc book pro. I have downloaded and installed os x yosemite now mac book pro will not start? How long should it take? Is there something wrong?

The 2 computers here took about 45 minutes to an hour each.
The best thing to do is give it more time. If it gets too ridiculous, shutdown using the power button and then restart. Check  menu/About This Mac to see if it is installed.

How long should it take to charge I Pad 3 when the battery is all the way down?

That depends on a number of things, but using the power adapter plugged into a wall socket it takes my iPad 3 about 5 hours to fully recharge.

  • How long should it take to download Lion?

I bought a new Macbook Pro today.  At 4:30pm I started downloading Lion.  It is still not done yet.  The blue bar under the Lion head is not even half way across!
    How long should this take!?
I am plugged into the router with an ethernet cable.  It is a wireless router but I am not connecting to the router wirelessly.  I have cable internet.  Not the fastest speed available, but it is still cable internet not dial up or DSL.
Is something wrong with my computer or the download?
    Thanks,
    Ehren

    Download speed was:  .87 Mbps
    Upload was:  .32 Mbps

So how many Mbps are there in 4gb?  That's how I figure that out right?

You are on the low end to say the least.  Maybe 10 hours at your speed?

  • I am using a WD external hard drive for backing up my laptop with Time Machine, but I have to do it manually. How do I know when it has finished the back up? How long should it take?

I am using an external WD hard drive for backing up my laptop. I have to do it manually, so I can't set Time Machine to just do it for me. How do I know when it is done backing up? How long should this take?

Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    tmutil compare -E
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command will take at least a few minutes to run. Eventually some lines of output will appear below what you entered.
Each line that begins with a plus sign (“+”) represents a file that has been added to the source volume since the last snapshot was taken. These files have not been backed up yet.
Each line that begins with an exclamation point (“!”) represents a file that has changed on the source volume. These files have been backed up, but not in their present state.
Each line that begins with a minus sign (“-“) represents a file that has been removed from the source volume.
At the end of the output, you’ll get some lines like the following:
    Added:
    Removed:
    Changed:
These lines show the total amount of data added, removed, or changed on the source(s) since the last snapshot.

  • HT1766 How long should it take for a icloud back up of about 6.4GB?  It has been running all night and not complete.

How long should it take for an icloud backup of about 6.4GB?  I selected a manual backup and it has been running all night?  Thanks

That's going to depend alot on your internet connection speed. 6.4 GB is alot of data, especially if your connection speed is slow (DSL) or low-end cable speeds of ~1.5 Mbps.

How long should it take it to back up icloud to iphone 5c?

The answer depends on the amount of data to be restored, the speed of your Internet connection, and wireless network conditions. It could take the better part of a day.

  • How long should it take to download Mountain Lion?

How long should it take to download and install Mountain Lion?  I have been downloading it for about 5 hours and it still has 1 gig to go.  My current OS X is 10.7.4

It depends on what bottlenecks you have interposed.
If you have a fast Ethernet connection, not cable Internet, that is not throttled by your ISP, and are using fast Ethernet on your local network, you should be able to download in about an hour.
If you are transmitting it over your wireless connection, it may take substantially longer.

  • HT201376 I've erased and formatted the hard drive accordingly in order to reinstall OS X. everything went fine until about half way through the install. it just seems to stop. how long should this take? should i do something else to speed it up?

About all you can do is wait until it finishes or you get an error message.

  • HT4718 am trying to install OS X Lion for the first time. So far it has been downloading for about 2 hours. How long should it take?

    Can anyone help please?
Lion download to iMac has been running for about 2 hours and is still not halfway yet. How long should it take? should I cancel and start again?

1500Kbs is 1.5Mbs. That is Kilo bits per second. There are 8 bits to a byte so if you divide 1500 (or 1,500,000) by 8 you get 187500 bytes a second. Divide 3.5GBs (3,500,000,000), that capitol B is for Bytes, by that 187500 you get 18666.666 seconds. Which needs to be divided by 60 to get the minutes and then again by 60 to get the hours.
    5.1851xxx hours.
I use to have a 3Mbs DSL connection and it took me over 3 hours to download Lion. Now that I have a 19Mbs Cable connection it take about an hour to download and install.
So wait it will happen eventually. If you cancel and start again your are still going to wait 5+ hours.

  • Ripping DVD's - How long should it take?

How long should it take to rip a whole DVD? PQDVD seems the easiest, but it rips at 1x speed (or close to it). Are there programs out there that do it faster? Are there programs that are cheaper? $35 is a lot of money.

I use DVD Decryptor (free) to rip the VCD files from the DVD.
I then use Videora for iPod to encode them to MP4.
Time for DVD Decrypt is about 15 minutes for a 2 hour movie.
Time for Videora is about an hour and a half for a 2 hour movie (give or take a half hour).
DVD Decryptor needs to be set to Not split the files based on size, and there is another tab that asks if you want to split the VCD files at all. Both set to none, find in the options screen.
    Good luck!

How long should it take a well-qualified server admin to migrate from Tiger to Lion...
For a small company, if the Tiger server is running on a G4 Tower:
    -Roughly 500GB in user files
-Data resides on old-school ATA drives
    -OD Master - Kerberized
    -AFP
    -Mobile Homes
    -DHCP
    -DNS (for 2 domains)
    -FTP
    -iChat
    -Mail (non SSL)
    -NetBoot
    -Print Server
    -SWUPD
    -VPN
    -Hosting website using MySQL
    -User & Computer Management
    Considerations/Hurdles/Challenges:
-Tossing old G4 into garbage, upgrading Mini client to Snow Leopard, adding Lion iMac client to the LAN
-Fresh OS installs on the Mini and iMac
-Upgrading from CAT5 to CATE on the LAN (not it the walls - just loose cables)
-All new hardware must be sourced out (take some time to price compare)
-Must find a way to transfer data from ATA drives to SATA drives or Lion Server
-Company must not have any email downtime (MX Records to be modified on DNS Providers site)
-Servers hostname goes from "companyserver.company.com" to "server.company.com"
    -ISP blocks some SMTP ports
-DNS Provider doesn't support TSL/SSL SMTP
-Implementing a switch into the network
-Implementing a new router (for firewall and NAT) from ISP
    Upgrading to Lion Mini Server
    -All the same services
    -Using SSL
-Implementing Mobile Device Enrolment and Deployment
That should just about cover it. I'll add any other details/hurdles as they come to mind.
