How long should it take to reinstall mavericks from Recovery Disk?

8 GB OF RAM onboard.

It depends on your internet connection. Mine is DSL 7 mbps and it takes +/- 2.5 hours to download the entire + 5 GB installer and then up to 30 minutes to install. Slower connection = will take longer.

how long should it take to transfer information from my hard drive to my Mac Pro after it has been reset

There is no answer to that. The time depends on the amount of data and the method used for transfer.

  • How long should it take to restore imac from backup

MY intel iMac had the operating system restored at my local Apple store. Once home I went about restoring all data from an external hard- drive. So far it has been doing this for about 30 hours with no end in sight. This can't be right, surely

Was the backup drive formatted as I asked? See the following for help with using Migration Assistant:

  • How long should reboot take after installing Mavericks?

All was well with my 2011 iMac until I decided to upgrade to Mavericks yesterday. I figured/hoped most of the early bugs must be squashed by now. The download took forever (but that's due to our slow bandwidth here) and the re-start has been going on 12+ hours. It's obviously hung up. I get gray screen with Apple logo; i have cursor control and no spinning ball. Occasiionally it still makes some sounds like it's processing. I've tried safe re-start, re-setting PRAM, ran disk utility to repair disk and all is supposedly OK. Thank God I have this MBP as my alternate device. Any advice as to next streps?? Chuck it all and restart from Time Machine?

If you haven't tried unplugging your peripherals, I'd do that, and try another boot in safe mode.
I wouldn't do a reinstall from TM, as that may reinstall whatever problem that you are having that is causing the installation to fail.
I'd bite the bullet, back up your documents, reformat (erase) the HD, and do a clean install.

  • How long should it take to reinstall OS X?

Because It's been going for almost an hour and a half, and it still has "about 16 minutes left". It started at 45 minutes, I think.
    I have a brand-new 13-in. MacBook Pro. 2.4GhZ processor, 4GB RAM, 250GB HD.

    Hi emilyrigby,
Did you customize the install? A completely base install on that machine took me about ~ 20 minutes. When I added the printer drivers package it added about another 45-50 minutes. If you're doing a clean install on a brand new computer I always exclude the printer drivers, that's 2-3 GB of space that you don't need wasted, especially considering you probably only use a printer or two and can manually install the drivers.
Regarding the clean install on a new machine... I always do this. Of the 736 machines I've purchased in 2010 I've performed the following:
    - Drive Partition
    - Single pass (zero out) of drive
    - Clean install of OS X (no extra installs)
    - Image of machine with appropriate image for machine's use
Seems a bit excessive, but it's for good reason. I've had the following:
    - 11 DOA machines on initial power on
    - 9 machines with S.M.A.R.T. status failing out of the box
    - 3 machines fail the partition
    - 5 machines fail the memcheck / bad RAM
    - 2 machines give bad block errors on the erase/zero out
    - 4 machines fail the OS X install due to bad discs that came with the particular machine
    - 2 machines with bad batteries out of the box
    - 5 machines with bad optical drivers out of the box
    41 machines (5% failure rate)
I find that a little extra 'stress' test out of the box makes for a quick exchange and no frustration on behalf of the user. I always order an extra machine or two when I do batch orders to accommodate for this.

  • How long should it take to download Lion  from App store?

The download bar/indicator does not seem to be moving at all. There have been no messages. Is the App store very busy and should I try again later?

When I attempted on Day#1, it took nearly 24 hours, three or four aborted downloads, several hung downloads, several stuck at "Waiting..." and a furious rant into the skies after hours of quiet desperation. The last time I tried took me a couple of hours tops.

About all you can do is wait until it finishes or you get an error message.

  • How long does it take to reinstall Mountain Lion on a new hard drive?

Due to performance/corruption issues, I erased my MacBook pro's hard drive. Now, I'm attempting to reinstall Mountain Lion (then do the upgrade to Mavericks). However, after about 5 hours of it doing the reinstall and downloading files (I have it connected to a network cable), I went to bed.
At some point during the night, the process seems to have timed out. Evidently, I will need to start from the beginning of the installation process.
    My Questions:
    How long should I take?
Is there a way I can prevent the MacBook from going into sleep mode so I can leave it unattended?
Since I've worked in corporate IT, I'm more than familiar with the Windows reinstall process and generally know what's going on and how long portions of an installation should take. Is there a way I can have the installation tell me what's going on?
Any other tips/tricks or general information?
    Thank you for any assistance.
    Rich

Wish I had your DSL speed.  iTunes suggests I have about 7 1/2 hours still to go!  Just glad it is giving it it's best shot.
    Thanks for your reply.

    Hey Beck,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’ve Reset All Settings on your iPhone 4s and now you’re running into an issue where the device only displays an Apple logo on startup. The article linked below provides troubleshooting suggestions that should be able to help you resolve the issue.
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
If your device gets stuck during startup
When starting up, you might see the Apple logo or a red or blue screen for a long time, or your device might restart again. Try these steps:
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

  • HT1766 How long should it take for a icloud back up of about 6.4GB?  It has been running all night and not complete.

How long should it take for an icloud backup of about 6.4GB?  I selected a manual backup and it has been running all night?  Thanks

That's going to depend alot on your internet connection speed. 6.4 GB is alot of data, especially if your connection speed is slow (DSL) or low-end cable speeds of ~1.5 Mbps.

How long should it take it to back up icloud to iphone 5c?

The answer depends on the amount of data to be restored, the speed of your Internet connection, and wireless network conditions. It could take the better part of a day.

  • I am using a WD external hard drive for backing up my laptop with Time Machine, but I have to do it manually. How do I know when it has finished the back up? How long should it take?

I am using an external WD hard drive for backing up my laptop. I have to do it manually, so I can't set Time Machine to just do it for me. How do I know when it is done backing up? How long should this take?

Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    tmutil compare -E
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command will take at least a few minutes to run. Eventually some lines of output will appear below what you entered.
Each line that begins with a plus sign (“+”) represents a file that has been added to the source volume since the last snapshot was taken. These files have not been backed up yet.
Each line that begins with an exclamation point (“!”) represents a file that has changed on the source volume. These files have been backed up, but not in their present state.
Each line that begins with a minus sign (“-“) represents a file that has been removed from the source volume.
At the end of the output, you’ll get some lines like the following:
    Added:
    Removed:
    Changed:
These lines show the total amount of data added, removed, or changed on the source(s) since the last snapshot.

  • How long should it take to download Mountain Lion?

How long should it take to download and install Mountain Lion?  I have been downloading it for about 5 hours and it still has 1 gig to go.  My current OS X is 10.7.4

It depends on what bottlenecks you have interposed.
If you have a fast Ethernet connection, not cable Internet, that is not throttled by your ISP, and are using fast Ethernet on your local network, you should be able to download in about an hour.
If you are transmitting it over your wireless connection, it may take substantially longer.

  • HT4718 am trying to install OS X Lion for the first time. So far it has been downloading for about 2 hours. How long should it take?

    Can anyone help please?
Lion download to iMac has been running for about 2 hours and is still not halfway yet. How long should it take? should I cancel and start again?

1500Kbs is 1.5Mbs. That is Kilo bits per second. There are 8 bits to a byte so if you divide 1500 (or 1,500,000) by 8 you get 187500 bytes a second. Divide 3.5GBs (3,500,000,000), that capitol B is for Bytes, by that 187500 you get 18666.666 seconds. Which needs to be divided by 60 to get the minutes and then again by 60 to get the hours.
    5.1851xxx hours.
I use to have a 3Mbs DSL connection and it took me over 3 hours to download Lion. Now that I have a 19Mbs Cable connection it take about an hour to download and install.
So wait it will happen eventually. If you cancel and start again your are still going to wait 5+ hours.
