I have downloaded Yosemite from the AppStore and on my initial attempt to install got to the point of having a grey screen with apple in the middle and a progress bar which stopped about 1/4th the way to completion. I let it run overnight after reading posts online indicating that it should resolve itself with time. After over 12 hours, I restarted the late 2012 MacBook Air and it would immediately go back to the same point in the installation. I then booted to the recovery disk and restored Maverick from my TimeMachine. I have tried to install again and have been stuck in the same spot for over 12 hours. I've tried entering Command-L to observe the log file with no change in what is being displayed. How long should I wait?

Install after download seems to take around a half hour. Of course it will depend on your hardware.

The OS was corrupted when installed over an incompatible 10.6 version of Centrify. It should have been uninstalled prior to installing Lion, so I was hoping to do a fresh install without restoring anything related to older applications to sort out network hang conditions. When I first installed Lion, a bootable image of the initial version of Lion was made that was able to restore Lion to an erased drive in about 28 minutes. It seems that image has been disabled by changes the MacBook boot flash. Is there a way to be better prepared, and how long should this process take starting with an erased drive?

Sorry to hear that saga. This time download another Lion installer from MAS by going to purchases and holding the option key. When downloaded it will appear in /Applications. Save it off to several different places on your disk and off.
Also, consider keeping bootable clones with SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner.
That way if you have a problem, just boot up from the clone and keep on working until you're ready to fix.

I have close to 500k images and had to do a library rebuild. It took over 10 hours, but never stopped. Now that it has processes all the photos, it is still saying processing and I'm just waiting. How long should I wait?

It will finish.
There's not much else you can do. If you stop the process, you just have to start over.

How long should Restore from iCloud take on iPhone 6?

I have just purchased a new iPhone 6 and after downloading whatsapp, the restore from iCloud function is currently active for 32060 messages and 3421 photos, but has been for the last 12 hours and is now frozen on 91%.
I am not sure how to access my whatsapp now as I cannot seem to exit the restore from iCloud function but it will not proceed forward with the restore.

The amount of time needed by the restore process depends on your geographical location and the speed of your Internet connection. Even with a fast Internet connection, the restore process might take 1 to 4 hours per gigabyte to complete.
If you're traveling between countries, the restore process might take longer than usual. iCloud is tuned to provide the best service when you're in the geographical location from which you most frequently connect to the Internet. How long should this iTunes restore take?? Grrrr

Upgrading my iPhone 4 to the new software.
Took over an hour as it was "preparing to restore the software on this iPhone".
Finally, it changed, to read "iTunes is currently restoring the software on on this iPhone". This has been going on for almost TWO HOURS.
There's no status graphic to show how far it's gotten so I'm stumped.
Is this normal??? I need to use my phone and it's been out of commission for hours. Grrrr

No it would take at most 2 hour, I think your iPod hardisk is dying causing the delay and iTunes freeze.

I purchased my MacBook Pro 11 mo ago, at the beginning it would take about 30 secs to start up, now it takes almost a minute (the same as my old Dell computer) the only program I have installed is Microsoft office, the mac computers at work take about 30 secs to start up.
I probably don't have more than 10 word files in "my documents" and no more than 500 photos, which I think is nothing compared to ALL the information I have in the computer at work
is it normal to take 1 minute to start up? What should I do in order to make the start up faster?

Hardware test extended -- how long should it take?

Running an AHT on my iMac 21.5 Late 2009 (HD is about 300GB w/ 12GB RAM), and initial test was quick and no issues found. Decided to then do extended test (just to be safe & curious to see what difference there was), but 2hrs in it was still showing it had a long way to go before finishing.

Would extended AHT tests reveal anything serious the basic AHT does not test?

1. The extended test looks for problems slowly, so it may find problems that a basic test can't find.
2. The extended test, depending on your memory, takes an hour or more, and it will increase if you have more memory. It's normal that you feel your computer hot during test, so don't worry.
3. Apple Hardware Test is different than that test. The test that Apple can do is more exact and it might detect problems you can't find in Apple Hardware Test. For example, problems with the graphic card or similar (Apple Hardware Test doesn't detect some problems)
