How long should you be able to use battery power?

Hi there I have a MacBook Pro 15inch. I'm just wondering how long I should be able to operate on battery power before I need to recharge? It only seems to last 2 hours and this is the second battery I've had. I'm sure it used to last longer.

Here's the article on how to calibrate your battery:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
I don't know if you will be able to calibrate your battery successfully at this point or not. If you can, it will likely look even more unhealthy.
Sadly, I think your battery is on its way out. As Retired Engineer points out, it hasn't had enough usage for optimum performance at only 69 cycles in close to 3 years. They also will deteriorate over time, whether or not you calibrate them or use them properly.
You might find Battery University an interesting read:

Also this kb article from Apple:

I don't think there is any way to bring this battery back to health. Unfortunately, the cure is going to be a new battery.
Good luck!

  • How long should you use the Macbook is the fan is at Max?

Hey all, the reason i ask is because sometimes when i visit a site with embedded video the CPU rises and heats up so the fan goes up to max. How long should you keep there with out damaging anything? Sometimes the videos are 45 mins, there tv shows and by 5th min is heated up and i dont want to keep it running for the rest of the 45 mins and wreck somthing. Whats the max time for that?

Not really an answer but I was wondering where your computer is located or how you are using it? My kids were putting a quilted blanket on their lap and then running their notebook on top of the blanket. The blanket had a terrible insulating affect on the computer. And to make matters worse, sometimes the blanket would block the fan exhaust! I had to scold them and teach them to put something else on the blanket over their lap, like a book, and then put the notebook on the book. That really stopped the fan from running a lot.
It's just something to be aware of. The MB will run cooler if there is space all around it.

  • How long should I charge the New iPad battery ??

    Hi,
    Can someone tell me :
How long should I charge the New iPad battery ??
i dont know, and i cant find this on the apple page.
i know that with the iPod Touch Five and Four Generation, the charge its only 2-4 hours but on the iPad how long is the charge?
    im really miss it!
    Can someone help me ?
    Thanks!!

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

  • How long should you charge your new iPhone before using?

How long should I charge my phone before using?

There is no required charging time. Use it and charge it when its convenient.
You should however not let it drop below 20% charge too often.  Once a month is suggested to re-calibrate the battery meter.
Other than that charge and use as you like.

  • How long should you leave your iPad 2 on for it's first charge

how long you your iPad be on for it's first charge

You don't have to charge it up to 100% on the first or every charge, nor run it down to empty everytime before you re-charge it. This page just recommends going through at least one charge cycle per month :
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

  • How long should I get from a full battery charge?

Apple clima sthat MacBook Pro's get five hours worth of a charge. Although on the better battery life and fully charge I only get 2 hours and ten minutes worth. Do I have a defective battery or what's going on. Please help!

you are probably using it more then apple was during the test...
Much like a car with mileage even though they say city MPG is 20, in the fine print it shows that they get between 8 and 38 MPG - hence the idea that it's USAGE DEPENDENT
This is the same for your computer - it is usage dependent. If you can't get near 4 hours running Universal, smaller Apps with no bluetooth on, and the screen brightness set at 1-4, then I'd say there's a problem
When I have the screen brightness on max, anything I do is about 2.5 hours. When I set it down low, immediately I get an additional hour or two.
Of course to preserve battery life I'm limited to apps like Safari, iTunes, iPhoto, iChat/Adium, and iWork, for the most part. Bigger apps or Rosetta apps will take up more power. For instance I wouldn't dare use Final Cut with out the charger attached.
Hope this helps. If you're getting dismal life try power cycling your battery, then run smaller apps with low screen brightness

  • How long before you can't charge the battery

How many times can you charge the battery before replacing and where do you get it replaced?

    From http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html :
A properly maintained iPad battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 1000 full charge and discharge cycles. You may choose to replace your battery when it no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs.

  • How long can you play mp3's/maximum battery life?

What is the average battery life for a 30 gig, early 5th generation Ipod video? I'm asking as I get about 5 hours using Apples instructions for maximum battery life.

Usually, the battery life for the original Fifth Generation iPods was approximately 12-15 hours, I think, although I'm not perfectly sure about that estimate.
Anyways, about 5 horus is not normal for your iPod, and I woulkd suggest that you send your iPod in for service (if it is still under warranty).
To arrange an iPod service request, see here: Placing an iPod service request

  • I am using a WD external hard drive for backing up my laptop with Time Machine, but I have to do it manually. How do I know when it has finished the back up? How long should it take?

I am using an external WD hard drive for backing up my laptop. I have to do it manually, so I can't set Time Machine to just do it for me. How do I know when it is done backing up? How long should this take?

Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    tmutil compare -E
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command will take at least a few minutes to run. Eventually some lines of output will appear below what you entered.
Each line that begins with a plus sign (“+”) represents a file that has been added to the source volume since the last snapshot was taken. These files have not been backed up yet.
Each line that begins with an exclamation point (“!”) represents a file that has changed on the source volume. These files have been backed up, but not in their present state.
Each line that begins with a minus sign (“-“) represents a file that has been removed from the source volume.
At the end of the output, you’ll get some lines like the following:
    Added:
    Removed:
    Changed:
These lines show the total amount of data added, removed, or changed on the source(s) since the last snapshot.

  • How long should I recharge my dead 60GB iPod before use?

My iPod drained its batteries over the weekend. Needed to reset the date and time and everything! How long should I let it charge on the AC adapter before turning it on and using it? (while still charging, of course.)
    Thanks!

if you mean how long you should let it charge before starting to listen to music on it while it is still charging then i would recommend that you let it charge until the battery meter is half full. Hope this helps.

  • TS4062 How long should it take to set up my ipad using itunes?

How long should it take to set up my ipad using itunes? Everything went blank on my iPad and I am attempting set it up using itunes. It has been connected for 45 min and gives me a set up incomplete message if I attempt to exit.

I did some check on available sources on the topic and it seems that the app data is often causing a slow backup:
    What causes the slow backup?
It’s the Apps! Apps on the iPad might store data to work properly. Some do store a lot, some don’t. For instance a game saves some highscore data (not very much), where a newspaper App or a rss reader might save updated data (can be very much). I believe lots of iPhone users, that experiencing slow backups, have problems with one or many Apps that are leaking in terms of saving tons of tiny files to the iPhone, especially when they have a lot of Apps and when they did backups cross devices (i.e. iPhone 2G to iPhone 3GS).
The article on this website http://apdevblog.com/slow-itunes-sync-backup/ should provide more information and hopefully a fix for your issue!
