How long to encode a 45 min video?

Using  default settings how long should it take to in encode a 45 min video with only one title and 1 channel of sound
Computer running a Intel chip at 3.0 GHZ and 8 megs memory
Windows XP service pack 2
4 hours seems awfully long to me

I agree that it is too long. Normally, it takes me about 1hr 15 to do a 1 hr DVD, give, or take. This is on a dual Duo-core 3,4GB RAM XP-Pro SP3, with optimized I/O w/ about 5TB in physical internal HDDs, and no RAID machine, with multiple menus and AC3 Audio. Similar Projects of greater Duration onto DVD-9 (DL) take slightly over realtime. Last 3.5 hr DVD-9 was under 4 hours. Even with Projects that are on my FW-800 externals do not take much over that. I always have a Play First AVI, plus at least 2 Menus, and often Button Transitions. Now, my Timelines are always my Chapters, so each Timeline is only one Audio/Video stream.
My times are for Transcoding and also burning at 2x onto DVD and almost always with "automatic" Transcode.
Now, all of my Projects are DV-AVI elemental stream from PrPro, and AC3 Audio elemental stream. Even with an additional DTS soundtrack, it's still not more than realtime.
What are your Assets? How are your Timelines set up?
Next project, I'll put the stopwatch on it, and give you exact times.
Good luck,
Hunt

Your current settings should match the source material in your timeline. Though, it probably doens't matter what it is as long as your settings are not for a highly compressed format like h.264 or mpeg2.
iDVD should take any all "I" frame format and encode it. (All I frame formats include DV, DVCProHD, ProRes).

  • How long should encoding take????

I am trying to make a dvd from 1 clip, 55 minutes in length that was imported to imovie from a mini dv video camera. Everything is fine until idvd begins to video encode. Going on 5 hours now on my new mac notebook! Seems extremely long for a short clip. Is there hope or help???.

What do you consider a short clip? how long is it in terms of QT Playback?
The question you posed has above has no direct answer since encoding can vary widely from user to user or by computer model/s.
But here's what I like to recommend before actually attempting to burn a DVD 60 mins or longer in playback .....
Try burning a very short iMovie to iDVD (3 minutes or less in QT Playback without any slideshows, etc). Ideally if you have access to the Completed iDVD Tutorial then try burning this to an iDVD using Verbatim DVD-R minus media. This normally goes very fast from start to finish. By fast I mean, 30 minutes or less as opposed to overnight for a longer 60-120 min. project.
Make sure to set your energy saver controls to "Never" prior to burning. And feel free to post back should you have any further questions.
    Hope this is helpful

  • How long can the iPhone 3GS record video before the battery runs out?

My father invested in an iPhone 3GS Tripod adapter for his tripod, for some conferences and lectures. He has a 16GB 3GS, which will record about 8.6 hours, according to another thread I've read about on here. But he doesn't really want to bring the USB/Adapter cable with him, and have to worry about finding a power outlet. Assuming his phone is on full charge, and bluetooth/wifi are shut off, and brightness is kept a bit dim (not too dim) - can anyone give me a round about answer of how long the it will record video before the battery dies? This function is today, so timing is critical. I will have him take the charger/usb with extension cable just in case. I'd appreciate anyones input

Not sure if the battery will die before or after your done recording on the iPhone. But most sites are claiming that you can record up to 2GB per video.I just recorded a one minute clip, and it rounded off to about 34MB.So if you devide that,it rounds off to around an hour of recording video...But take that with a grain of salt,I'm not good with math lol

  • How do I send a 6 min. video made on the iphone to an email address?

I have made a 6 min. video on my iPHone 4S. I need to send it to a doctor but the message I keep getting is that the video is too large to email. It also will not attach to an email message. How can I get it to this person?

You're gonna have to find a different method. All ISP's limit email attachments, varies from 10MB's to 25MB's...far too small to email a 6 minute video. You can upload to YouTube, use Dropbox, copy to a thumdrive etc. But you won't be able to email.

  • How long to encode audio

I am new to mac, this is my 3rd attempt to burn my first movie. Have read the articles about waiting overnight and are doing this as a disk image... but it has been encoding audio for more than 18 hours and the length of time since starting the process is over 24 hours. Is this normal or do I have an issue?
    macosX   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   iDVD6

That seems BAD... The longest I've had to wait is 30 minuts; but it varies by project type. My just completed slideshow project encoded audio many times at certain stages of the rendering/encoding process.
I've seen some people have to wait many hours to get through audio encoding. Don't know what to tell you beyond that.

  • DVDSP 4 - How long to burn

Here is a question: 2 pass VBR at highest rating 30 minute piece first play no template or menus. How long to encode and burn. G5 1.8 DP, 2GB RAM, Pioneer 110 16X DVD burner.
    Thanks for any answers.
    G5 DP 1.8, 2GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    How to answer?
    Just try it.
But the better approach is to encode video in Compressor 2, and audio to Dolby2 AC3.
Why do it inside of DVD SP?

Im having a problem with the dvd quality, I'm using compressor to convert the video fils from apple prores to mpeg2 .It doesn't matter how long my video is even if its just 5 minutes  I'm getting cut edges/lines  in the video specialy if i have titles it comes up really bad , I took the same video to a friend of mine who have PC and he uses Encore , did the encoding there and it was just fine no problems! BTW I tried using doferent setings in compressor from CBR and VBR I even pushed up the setings to 8 or 9 BR and still no luck !
does anyone have any idea ?
    Thanks in advence ...

Let's focus attention on just the Sony. (What model and what resolution are you shooting?)
    For now, I'll assume you're shooting 1080i.
Take a representaive clip  into a new sequence. Add a title.
In your sequence, make sure field dominance is set to Upper.
Set render settings to Pro Res 422.
After rendering, export QT self contained.
Import into Compressor (I'm now referring to v3.5).
Select the 90 minute Best quality DVD preset.
Open frame controls and turn on (click the gear icon). Set Resize filter to Best.
Submit burn and check quality on TV.
    Good luck.

  • Photo booth only records partial Video no matter how long it is...Help!!

ok so i wanted to make a funny video to send to my friend. I turned on Photo booth, chose the video option, and hit record. I proceeded to completely embarrass myself on camera for about 5 mins, and i clicked stop. When it stopped, only like the 1st 18 secs were recorded. I thought maybe i clicked stop on accident, so i tried it again, and it was the same problem.. is anyone else having this problem? if so is there a solution for it? please help...thanks

Welcome to Apple Discussions, C Dot MooDy
is anyone else having this problem?
I have not seen any specific post of exactly your problem, but a few users have posted questions about how long Photo Booth can record, so they might be asking about a similar issue.
For instance, a search of iSight discussions about known Photo Booth recording time limit:
      http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1450644&tstart=50
if so is there a solution for it?
For a solution, consider the same suggestions I offered in the topic linked above:
    (1) Be sure you are keeping Photo Booth (PB) as the foreground app; i.e., you can always see "Photo Booth" by the  in the upper left corner of your display. Don't click on the desktop or any other open window while recording. Recording stops on my Mac if PB is not the active app.
    (2) Other things that might be contributing to your problem:
    • Don't let your Mac go to sleep or allow its screen saver to work while you are recording.
    • Check and, if necessary, modify settings of background apps that might be interrupting your Mac during your PB movie recording. Examples would include Mail checking for new email, iCal executing an alarm, your Software Update... performing its scheduled check for software updates.
I do not know that one of those might be your problem, but if you can find no other cause, and if you must record long clips with PB, consider any of those ideas you think they might have an impact.
    (3) Also consider these suggestions If your Macbook runs slowly or exhibits any other problems in addition to your PB issue.
    (4) If all else fails, you might try iMovie to see if it works better for recording longer movie clips on your Macbook. While not a one-click app like PB, iMovie HD can add Video FX (Effects) after you have recorded your clip. If you cannot get PB working, iMovie might be worth considering as an alternative.
    (5) If you would rather not use iMovie, perhaps a PB clone application like WebcamTweaker or Freak Show will work for what you want.
Please let us know how it goes.

  • How long is this video I just previewed?

The previews are all 20 seconds, I can see that.
How long is the $1.99 video?
Some of the info is cut off near the PREVIEW button.
It has release date, genre, label. and dots ......

    The purchased ones do.
When playing a video a fifth button appears in the bottom left corner of iTunes to
i Show videos or visuals full screen.
The videos, like the songs, are encoded at 128 kbps so when viewed full screen the picture is somewhat blurry. Perhaps a lot blurry depending on your point of view.
I assume they'd look good on the new iPod but you'll most likely be disappointed if you buy them with the intention of watching them full screen.

I replied long before post 7, but my reply did not get posted...instead it remained unsent. I have been having computer Internet connection problems. I was able to recapture it from restore feature of posting. Below is what I wrote.
    Thanks for the reply.
Just in case note....for a regular DVD player, granted it is important to have a video format that the player supports (namely DVD-VIDEO format); however, the other half of the consideration...the player needs to support the disc type (media type) that the video format is on. I do not know of a regular DVD player that supports DVD-VIDEO on a memory stick.
If you have recorded PAL 1080i (1920 x 1080 @ 25 interlaced frames per second), that interlaced video exists with Field Order: Upper Field First.
But, you end product DVD-VIDEO is characterized by Field Order: Lower Field First. If you run into this type of Field Order problem, then there are 2
possibilities to get that taken care of
    a. Assuming that you are using Premiere Elements 11, 12, or 13....set the project preset (manually) to
    PAL
    Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorders
    Full HD 1080i25
    or
    b. Import the source media using
    PAL
    AVCHD
    Full HD1080i15
and then, for each Timeline 1080i, right click it, select Field Options from the pop up menu, and then select Reverse Field Dominance.
When you export to file, you lose the opportunity for menus. The only export to file with menus is found in the webDVD export which is
in reality a flash file with menus. That might be a consideration for playback through the web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox.
If putting a file on a memory stick is a working possibility, you might want to look also at AVCHD.mp4 1920 x 1080p25, but all depends on the
    support of the player.
Lots to think about. If you need clarification on any of the above, please do not hesitate to ask.

  • Asset encoding has been showing for almost 12 hours now. How long should it take?

How long should it take to burn a 27 minute movie. It states that it is encoding video with 1 minute left. Has been that way for 9 hours now.Any suggestions?

    Hi
Encoding time depends on several things (mosty common are)
    • Free Space on Start-Up (Mac OS) get's low eg less than 5Gb - and encoding time get's stupidly long
I never go under 25Gb free spae
    • What You feed iDVD. Some Codecs/Fileformats just get's encoded stright of - but others needs to be converted first (re-coded) by iDVD first - can also take eons of time.
So Please tell where Your material came from and in what Codec/File format
    • What Mac was Used to encode. My Mac G3 600MHz - took about 30 hours per hour movie. My dG5 2GHz was close to 1:1 - My new MacBook Pro 2.2GHz i7 - Have not tried yet - May be even faster ?
