How long to restore 80 gig ipod classic?

I followed the instructions for restoring my ipod but the process seems to be taking over an hour and still the 'restoring xxxx's ipod' message is displaying. The barber pole 'movement' (my computer is an imac) has stopped or frozen. Do I need to re-start this process or just wait it out?

it should not take very long to restore. i would suggest restoring it on someone else's computer.

If you iPod Classic is dead, because it is wet, then it would be futile to Restore it, if it still has warranty, MAYBE, the Genius at Apple store will help you, as the warranty dont cover water damage.
However, if you just want to know how to Restore, a corrupted iPod Classic, read this Apple Support Article on Restore

  • HT1339 how can I restore my ipod classic? Keeps giving me error 1439

Anyone have any suggestions to resore my OLD IPOD?

I think you are asking about the iPod RESET Utility.  There is no 64-bit version.
A "Restore" is normally done using iTunes, from the shuffle's Settings screen.  This "Reset" utility is only for the 1st and 2nd gen shuffle, for use in a particular unusual case where the computer (Windows) sees the iPod, but iTunes does not.  If iTunes does not see the iPod, it's not possible to use the Restore button in iTunes.  But since the computer still sees the shuffle as a USB device, you can try that utility.  When those older shuffle models were sold as new, there was no need for a 64-bit version.
Does your shuffle still appear as a USB device in Windows, in Device Manager or elsewhere?  If the shuffle has a hardware problem, such as a worn-out headphones jack or bad logic board, the reset utility will not help because the shuffle is not seen by the computer.  Also, it's possible that USB docking cable has become faulty (and it's not a problem on the shuffle).
NOTE:  The USB cable for the more recent 3rd and 4th (current) gen shuffle does not work with a 2nd gen suffle, because the connector is different.
And be sure rule out a problem with the USB port on the computer by connecting something else to it, preferably something similar, such as a USB flash drive.
If you need to use the reset utility, and know someone with a Mac, Mac OS X can run both 32 and 64-bit apps, so you can run the utility on a Mac.  shuffles are always formatted using the Windows disk format (FAT), so you will be able to use the shuffle on your Windows PC after it is "reset" (or restored) on a Mac.  If there is an Apple Store nearby, you can make a reservation at the store's Genius Bar and take it there.

  • HT1339 how to restore an ipod classic with error 1415

how to restore an ipod classic with error 1415 latest operating system

    Hey there beaver17
    How are you?
Well, I have an iPod Classic, it gave me the error -1436 error and would not restore on iTunes.
    I did the following:
My Boss (@work) has a fairly old iBook but it has OS-X, so I decided to give it a try and connected my iPod to it.
The system showed a window telling me that the disk is not MAC formated and needs to be validated prior further action. Snce it is a Mac product, I thought "yeah, go ahead".
It then opens the disk manager utility for the Mac and showed the disk. It's window has some tabs, one is to verify the disk, so I verified it. Guess what, it had some invalid clusters.
Then I formatted the iPod to OS-X Plus file system (next tab to the right). After formating the iPod, I "ejected" the iPod and reconnected to my PC. The Windows iTunes found an iPod with Mac file system and asked me to restore it. As I clicked on the "restore" button, I crossed my fingers as this was the last resource I have.
Finally, after the file extraction was done, it began to restore the iPod!!
I'm so happy about being able to restore the iPod that I decided to share with all you guys this solution as it is the most usefull, in my opinion.
Hope you can find someone with an iBook or a desktop Mac, so you can fix yours.
If it works for you, make sure to share the tip!!
    Kind regards

    thank you mariquit

    Hello Mariquit,
It sounds like you would like to restore your iPod classic to factory settings.  I recommend the following steps:
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.

  • Using a 80 gig iPod Classic with a Phillips DCP750 Portable DVD Player

This weekend I almost purchased the Phillips DCP750 portable DVD player, but after reading some of the discussions posted here, I am doubtful it will work with the 80 gig iPod Classic I bought last month. Does anyone know if there is a way to make this work or if there is another portable DVD player that will work with my iPod? If I purchase a universal dock from Apple, will this let me change the settings on the iPod so it will work? And which cables would I purchase to connect my iPod to a TV? I am somewhat disappointed that it is apparently so difficult to hook the 80 gig Classic up to a bigger screen to watch downloaded movies, TV shows, video, etc. I might have settled for the smaller Nano if I had know this would be such a hassle.
I would appreciate any information anyone can give me on this.

    1. How likely is it that Apple will fix this issue with future firmware releases?
No-one here could even hazard a guess. We're just users like yourself. Do Philips claim this DVD player is compatible? Isn't it the responsibility of the makers of the DVD player to ensure it works with the Classic?
    2. Are other 3rd party devices (i.e. Docks, Automobiles, etc.) affected by this firmware release?
Yes. Almost all older 3rd party accessories don't work with the Classic. There have been many posts about such issues both here and other iPod forums.
    3. Is there any way to go back to firmware release 1.0.2? I know backing off firmware releases is possible with the iPhone.
This may be of help but you have to have the previous version still on your computer.
Remove the latest update from the iTunes/iPod updates folder.
In Windows XP but I think it's found in "Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates."
Then prevent iTunes from checking the internet for a new update (preferences/general and remove the check mark from "check for updates automatically), then click restore. Or simply disconnect your modem from the computer.
    Then restore the iPod.
You should then be asked if you want to use the previous version of the iPod software.

  • How can I authorize an iPod Classic with my own Apple ID?

How can I authorize an iPod Classic with my own Apple ID? It belonged to someone else so presumably it has been authorized with another id. Your help and answers are much appreciated.

To make sure the file system is closed properly iPod classics should be ejected from the iTunes interface, or if iTunes isn't running, using the "Safely remove hardware" tool. That message is a standard warning. If the device shows up in iTunes you can configure the selection of media content that you want to sync to it and press the sync button to start the process. iTunes may spend quite a long time "thinking" before any tracks are copied over.
If you think there might be something wrong with the device itself see Corrupt iPod classic for some troubleshooting tips.

I tried to restore it, but fond out that all it did was removed all my songs ect, but the update is still the most current version. Please someone, please help me. You may have the accessibility VoiceOver feature or another one turned on.
Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off and any others off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. If problems see the following for how to turn off via iTunes:
iPhone: Configuring accessibility features (including VoiceOver and Zoom)
    Next try:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

My podcasts will no longer sync with my ipod classic. Also when I tried to sync in itunes, the category "podcast" disappeared under my ipod listed in itunes.

Are you sure your iPod Classic is configured to sync podcasts to your device?  You'll want to double check by taking a quick look at your iPod's Podcast configuration tab in iTunes.
To access this tab, plug your iPod in and click on it from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes when it appears to bring yourself to the iPod's Summary tab. Now locate the Podcasts tab and select it.  Under this tab you can configure how and what podcasts are synced to your device. If you make any changes, be sure to click theApply button in the lower right hand corner.

  • How do I make my iPod classic work with iTunes 9.1

How do I make my iPod classic work with iTunes 9.1?

You are correct in some of your assertions, Limnos but, if I were to follow Apple's wishes, I would have to purchase the latest and greatest Apple product every month!  I refuse to do that.  I understand that my G4 is old but, it does what I need it to do.  To answer your question though, I purchased the iPod classic as a refurbished unit, about 5 years ago and had it replaced three times, since then so, there is no way for me to know how old it is.
From my knowledge of how the Classics work(which is extensive.)  It is basically a hard disk.  There should be of performing a low level format, plug it back in and the G4 should recognize the ROm and automatically search for the correct software associated with that version of iPod and load it but, Apple will most likely no longer carry the software on their servers anymore!(surprise, surprise.)

  • I recently restored my ipod classic and the music that was in my itunes account has disappeared or it keeps saying file not found,is there a way forme to recover the music I lost?

How can I fix this problem of finding the music that was lost since I restored my ipod classic. I still have some albums but some music is missing,

    Hello lg3hree
Check out the first article to look on your computer for the music files themselves. If you had purchased anything from iTunes, you can just download the tracks from the iTunes store.

    Update!
This is what I did to fix both the skipping songs problem and the iPod verifying forever & not able to restore problem (because of iTunes 9):
    a) I used Disk Utility to reformat my iPod while in Disk Mode using the instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363?viewlocale=en_US
    and here:
    http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/erase/index.shtml#backup
    b) Do not unplug your iPod after reformatting (mine showed up as a firewire disk) - simply launch iTunes ( I went back to 8.2) and follow the Restore instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339
iPod is recognized, syncs and doesn't skip songs anymore after that miserable experience with iTunes 9!!!
