How long will Apple continue to release patches for Snow Leopard?

Now that Mountain Lion has been released, how long will Apple continue to support Snow Leopard with patches?

I think the support has already stopped for 10.6.8 if past practice is anything to go on.*
Past observation suggests Apple supports the current and the preceding OS.
On the  25th of July, 2012** it became no longer the preceding but relegated to 'bronze'.
* exceptions have been known but are rare.
** when 10.8 came out.

After Lion, will Apple continue to update &/or upgrade Snow Leopard?

Sorry, speculation is outside the T&Cs of this forum. (but I doubt it apart from security updates).

  • How long will apple replace chipped cases?

I have an '08 white macbook with the 2.4 GHz chip.   Well over time (like every other macbook) the palmrest has chipped.    I've never really worried about it but my daughter is starting to use the computer a lot and I'm a little worried that A. she could spill a drop or two of water on it and it could get through the crack into the case and ruin the computer.   Or B. that she'll cut up her hands/wrists on it.
Like I said its never been a big deal.  Somewhat annoying and of course I'd prefer to have it fixed.
The machine is out of apple care warranty. Didn't buy the extended apple care in the first place.
Will Apple still repair this or am I too late?

They will still repair it but you'll have to pay the full price. I forgot how much but it could be around $400 to $600. And when I worked for Apple I know that they order the parts first then call you to bring in the computer when the parts arrives instead they keep the computer for the entire process. They should only keep it for 1 or 2 days, but check with them as every Apple Store has different amount of clients that needs support.

  • HT5612 How long should the download take to go from Snow Leopard to the newest version of Mountain Lion?  I started the download 2 hours ago and it's still running.

I have ac OS X version 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.  I bought the upgrade to Mountain Lion and started the download 2 hours ago.  It is still downloading.  What should I do?  Is this typical?

I don't know how to determine how fast it is.
There are several internet sites you can access to test both your upload and download speeds. Among them are:
    Speedtest.net
    Speakeasy.net
    WhatIsMyIP.ccom
Be aware that there can and likely will be wide variations in the tested speed depending on the location of the server running your test, time of day, etc. The results should be taken with a grain of salt and treat variations of less than 10% as inconsequential.

  • I have 10.5.8, how and where do I buy the disc for snow leopard?

I have a Macbook that I bought a few years ago, and I have the os x 10.5.8.  I want to upgrade to the snow leopard and cant find where to buy the disc or downlaod.  I want to update so I can get icloud to use it with my new iphone.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard isn't available for download. You need to buy it from the Apple online store (in the US 800-MY-APPLE). It will be on the legacy product list. Once you install it, you can use Software Update to bring it up to the 10.6.8 release.

  • Photoshop CS6: How Long Will ACR Continue to be Updated to Support New Camera Models?

I have Photoshop CS6 and do not wish to update to Photoshop CC.
I see that Panasonic have recently announced the Lumix DMC-FZ1000, and it is rumoured that a Lumix DMC-LX8 will shortly be announced.
Should either of these cameras suit, will Adobe update the ACR version available for Photoshop CS6 users, so that these camera's RAW formats are supported in Photoshop CS6, in due course?
Edit: I see that Photoshop CS6 is still available to buy from Adobe, so I would assume that the ACR version available for Photoshop CS6 will continue to be updated to support new camera RAW formats, up until a short time after CS6 is eventually discontinued?

I am having the same problems. My guess is that a lot of people are having the same problems and just living with it. Those of us who know where to go on the Internet come here to find a fix.
It seems Verizon has some explaining to do. Maybe they should try Beta testing new software a little better. I would rather have to wait longer for something that works. I am sure that some manager or director said this is close enough, deploy it and we will see what happens. Well, you are seeing the problems. Time to fix your mistake.
All of us are telling our friends about the problems. The longer this goes on, the more people we will tell about it.
Wouldn't you rather us be telling our friends that their is an error in the new interface and that you are working hard to fix it?
If you want to be up front about this, then just tell us. We are adults and can handle it. If you made a mistake, own up to it and give us some credit for doing your Beta testing in the field.
Customer Service is all about telling the truth and if you made a mistake, admit it and lets move on with a fix. I do not want to be told again that I should be able to unplug it, power cycle it, try the on-board diagnostics, etc., etc.......
I am going to be repsonding on a daily basis to keep this topic at the top of the list.
Time to come clean. You will feel better Verizon.
    Let's talk tomorrow.

  • How to install SSD as a boot drive for Snow leopard? I am confused...

Hello; This is first time I will use SSD on my macpro. I ordered the SSD from amazon and it will come next week I hope. I need some help and advice. My boot drive is HDD (Macintosh HD) now. So, I Want to move from the HDD to SSD. What's the easiest and guarentee way to do it? I am not a good technician. I've read about carbon copy cleaner or disk utility to back-up everything to another drive, boot from there then select the SSD. Is this needed? Cant I just directly copy my application and operation System to SSD? How about using the installation disc and directly install to the SSD? I am confused. What do you suggest? Please help
    My system:
    Macpro early 2008 (3.1)
    OS 10.6.8
SSD is samsung 840 series 256 GB... (Since My macpro dont use SATA 3, I didnt see any reason to invest more money and buy 840 pro series or 830 series)

Hi, There are any number of different ways to move the data from one drive to another. My preference (the last one) would be to do a clean fresh install using system disks because of the way SSD drive's lay down data.
I'm not going to go into detail laying out HOW you do this. I assume you can do a Google (or other) engine search for details.
    1) SystemMigration - this is a built in MAC OS X utility that allows you to move system + data from one drive to another
    2)  Do a Time Machine backup of everything and then use TM to restore everything the way it is or REINSTALL a clean install of the data+new system on the replacement drive.
    3) Carbon copy Cloner is a great cloning application and can "block clone" from a smaller drive to a replacement drive of the same or larger size
The above 3 methods assume you will transfer ALL the date, good bad & ugly, from the magnetic media to the SSD. This is the most efficient method,  but from personal experience you may end up not getting
the faster boot up time and disk responsiveness you would expect from an SSD. I can't say why; it may have to do with the way data is initially "laid down" on the SSD OR all the extra "jetsam and flotsam" that accompanies a used system drive - "(how's THAT for non techno-geek detail).
I have noticed that Drive clones are only as good as the source from which they are taken and that when I cloned a magnetic Lion 10.6 Drive to an SSD, there was no significant advantage in boot times with a 10.6 Lion boot taking anywhere from 45 to 60 to 75 seconds (pretty much he same for magnetic drives).
I then did an original clean system install on the SSD as if I were doing it for the first time....updated it completely and THEN and only then did I reinstall all the apps individually followed by cloining the data files.
By doing this, I was able to cut the boot time on that SSD (and all subsequent ssd clones of the original SDD) to 25 to 30 seconds.
NOT BAD. Just simply cloning what you already have is a simple option, but if you're looking for optimal SSD performance, I'd opt for a fresh clean instll of everything.

  • How long will the shuffle stay on repeat?

I want to use a Shuffle as an on-hold device...how long will it continue to repeat?

Until the battery runs out of charge...which varies depending on the power consumed by the device plugged into the earphone jack..."*Up to 12 hours of music playback*" according to Apple.

  • How long does apple hold ipod for

ok... i sent in my ipod away in the empty box yesterday, its not a specialized one and how long will apple take to ship it back, and also if its gonna be the same color... or if its new or refurbished

The length of time Apple takes to return it to you will depend on what's wrong with it, and how busy they are. Wherever possible they will replace your iPod with one of the same colour, and as the mini is no longer manufactured, it's likely to be a refurbished iPod.

  • Apple has placed a temporary authorization amount hold in my card for repair. My old iphone has been received by apple. how long does it take to release the amount?

Apple has placed a temporary authorization amount hold in my card for repair. My old iphone has been received by apple. how long does it take to release the amount?

How long it takes depends partially on your bank. Once they release it, it could take several days for the authorization to roll off of your account. It is generally not a problem unless you're using a debit card, which will lock the funds in your checking account and make them unavailable, which I presume you did or you wouldn't be worried about it.
This is not unique to Apple. That's a problem when using debit cards for any purchase.  Several years ago, when gas prices spiked to $4 a gallon here, gas stations would routinely authorize and hold upwards of $100 every time you tried to pay at the pump. Created some major headaches for the working stiffs just trying to get to their jobs and pay the bills.

When will Apple release a patched version of Java JRE 6 for Snow Leopard?

    Hello:
No one here can answer that question.  We are all users.  Apple may or may not do anything about Java in the future.

  • Will Apple continue to support iWeb?

Will Apple continue to support iWeb?

It's now confirmed that iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
In addition the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on.
HOWEVER, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still currently available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those copies still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD.
