How long with saved items remain on iCloud

I do not use the iCload as of yet.  And am running low on space on my iPad.  Is there anyway I can shift stuff over to the iCloud, and re-call it anytime...or are there limitations.  Please advise - thanks

iCloud is mostly a syncing and sharing service. It can contain the iOS backup which you can not selectively choose files. Depending on the items you wish to store for the most part they are just a copy of what is on your device. Deleting Notes, iWork documents or photos from a device can also remove them from iCloud as well as all other devices linked to the same account.
Do not rely on Photo Streams as a backup of your photos. Shared Photo Streams may have the ability but can be complicated to setup and it is not the intended use for the service. It is also setup to be more of a syncing and sharing service.
iTunes Store Purchases can be downloaded again through the stores. This includes Music, Videos and Apps, but there may be some limitations in some areas around the world. iTunes Match is not required if all you want is access to iTunes purchases, TV Shows and Movies may not be included depending on your country. The payed service of iTunes Match will give you the ability to store your music, both purchased and your ripped CDs, on Apples servers for downloading to your iOS devices and computers tied to your iTunes account.

  • How long do journaled transactions remain?

As I understand it, enabling journaling in Mac OS creates a hidden file that somehow tracks and lists every transaction, i.e., file printed, window open or closed, file modified or saved, etc.
Is this understanding correct? If so, how long do journaled transactions remain in the system? Can they be accessed by the user? Can they be accessed by a computer expert?

    Is this understanding correct?
    No.
Journaling only applies changes to the file system on the disk. It has nothing to do with printing or opening windows.
The process of writing (or deleting) a file on disk is very complex. Besides writing the data itself, the system has to choose and allocate the space, update the directory, update the volume table of contents and the volume bitmap, update the Spotlight index, and more. Even if the whole process takes a fraction of a second for a small file, all the steps must be completed, or the file system will be corrupted. The journal is simply a checklist of all the steps. Once the process is successfully completed, the journal entry is deleted. So the entry may only exist for a few seconds or less.
If the computer crashes or the power goes out before the updates are complete, then when the disk is brought back online, the system will notice an incomplete journal. It will go through the journal and clean up the mess. That doesn't mean it will rescue the file. It is usually too late for that. But it will avoid file system corruption caused by having a partially saved file.

  • HT1766 How long should it take for a icloud back up of about 6.4GB?  It has been running all night and not complete.

How long should it take for an icloud backup of about 6.4GB?  I selected a manual backup and it has been running all night?  Thanks

That's going to depend alot on your internet connection speed. 6.4 GB is alot of data, especially if your connection speed is slow (DSL) or low-end cable speeds of ~1.5 Mbps.

  • Impatient store question - how long should an order remain on "Processing Items"

Not sure if this is the right forum for this q, but here goes:
So placed an order for my first Mac Wednesday AM. I opted for the hires antiglare screen so it's a custom build with a ship time of 1-3 days. I'm past the 48hr mark and it still shows as "Processing Items" where I can make changes to the order - so I assume they haven't started build it yet? How long is typical for it to remain in this status before it ships? I'm getting anxious!
Thanks in advance for any insights!
    Matt

You were told 1 - 3 days. 48 hours is 2 days. So be patient. It will ship when it ships. Then you will be able to track it as it travels the world.

  • How long do the photos remain in photo stream?

How long to photos remain in photo stream?  Should they be saved permanently sometime?  If Photostream is turned on, and then you download a memory card with pictures, what's the best way to not have duplicate pictures?

The photos remain in the My Photo Stream for 30 days or untill more than 1000 are added and push them out. If you setup iPhoto's iCloud preferences as shown below all phiotos will be automaticall imported into your library when the iPhone is conected to WiFi.

Wiki activity has not been showing up on the Activities tab of our Profiles for some time now. This is a known issue that they are working on. I don't know if our staticstics is being updated. You new article looks fine, so it must have published. Your
profile still shows 16 articles. I will try to check if our statistics are being updated, but it could be the same issue we already know about (no Wiki activities in profiles).

I've been using @mac.com for a long time (several years).  How long are emails stored by Apple?  I'm trying to find an email I sent in April 2009.  Thanks!

They are kept until you delete them.

  • How long does iTunes Password remain valid after iTouch purchase?

Its great to be able to buy songs thru the iTouch.
But how long does the session / password last after the first purchase?
Is there a way to log out? Or does the login automatically expire after a period of time(like some websites such as Facebook) ?

    From the manual:
Your purchase is charged to your iTunes Store account. For additional purchases made
within the next fifteen minutes, you don’t have to enter your password again.
