There's not much to explain. When a device is connected, you see the row of different categories across the top: Summary, Info, Apps, Tones, Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, Books, and Photos. For example, it is perfectly safe to sync one iOS device to the Music category on Computer A and no other computer, and the same device to Photos on Computer B and no other computer.
You might be confusing what I'm saying with one iOS device enabling sync to the Music library on multiple computers. That is a huge no-no and will result in the disaster being suggested. It turns out that exclusivity at the category level, not the computer level, is what really matters.
As long as a device is synced to a given category on only one computer, it doesn't matter which computer it is or whether that computer is different than the ones synced to on other categories. The instant a given category is enabled for syncing on more than on computer, that is where the trouble starts.

I will agree that it is something you should only do mindfully. But if you do make sure each category is syncing to only one device, there will be no data loss and no mess.

As a librarian, I work in many schools. We slowly start to buy eBook for students with difficulties in learning. Often, books are protected by DRM: we have to use the same account to open the books that the one we use to buy it.
For now, only one person will be allowed to buy eBooks (me), so we will only have one account... but each student have his own computer, so I will have to autorize each computer with the same account.
1. Can I do that?
2. If yes, how many computers can I autorize with a single Adobe account?
3. If no, what else can I do?

(1)You can do that with (2) up to six devices total including your computer.
(3) The only other thing is to try to contact Adobe to see what arrangements they can make.
Alternatively, contact Overdrive, who are the service most libraries use for lending ADE DRM books,
which is effecitvely what you want to do.
I am afraid I can't give any idea of the best contact points for those oarganizations.
Maybe some other public librarian will be able to point you in the right direction.

I udnerstand that I can download media purchased from iTunes to up to 5 computers and play from the computers, and I know how to move tracks I rip from my own old CDs around.
However it seems like it need to sync all the media to my player from one and only one computer? Is that right? Most iPods can be synchronized with multiple computers (the shuffle being the only exception I know of); you just have to set iTunes to manually manage the iPod. An iPhone, however, can only be synched with one copy of iTunes for media content (you can use a different computer to sync calendars/notes/etc).

I don't know for the others but in my retail package ((not upgrade) I found two serial numbers. Though I haven't got time yet to try the second serial number on my MacBook, my logic says that with two different serials I could run both macs simultaneously and be on the network. But, my logic fails so often so it's better to shut my mouth, install Logic on MacBook and come back here again.

You can do that, but with that many computers syncing you may run into some issues.

I would like to use iCloud to sync address book and calendars in our small office. We will have several users at once accessing via iPhones and Macs. I was doing this with Mobile Me for a while but at the end it was not syncing correctly and duplicated my contacts.

You can quite a few devices to iCloud on one account (up to 100 I think). Note that you should only sync what you are willing to lose. For example, if one of your co-workers deletes a contact, the contact will be removed from all of the computers associated with the account that have contact syncing turned on.

You have a limit of 5(I think). So, just remember to deauthorize a computer with the iTunes Store before getting rid of it. You do this in the menu> itunes>store>deauthorize computer
And when you get the new one, you authorize in the same way.
