How many cooling fans are in 13" MacBook Pro retina?

I just got a late 2013 13" MacBook Pro with retina display and I'm wondering how many cooling fans are in the machine. I've noticed when I use iTunes to play music/movies or use the iTunes visualizer, it gets hot. I've seen the videos on the retinas and I've notived that the 15" model has two and I can't find any videos or pictures indicating whether the 13" has one or two. I know that the openings on the side are to bring in air and then pushes it out where the screen and the keyboard meet. I notice a lot of hot air coming out more towards the right of the machine than the left. I had a mid 2012 non-retina Pro but I had it replaced as it had too many issues and I know when I used it, it didn't get as hot when I did this stuff. I'm just making sure in case it's an issue, even thought I got this new MacBook on Monday 6/9/14. I'm also guessing it heats up faster since its a smaller machine and the components are a lot closer. And I understand that playing games or doing something that requires a lot of processing or graphics power will cause the machine to heat up since it's requiring so much from the machine. Like I said, I want to avoid having issues with this one. My last MacBook had three logic boards, two hard drives, hard drive cable, hard drive bracket, and clam shell replaced in less than a year of purchase in September 2013. When the hard drive crashed last week for no apparent reason last week, I took it to Apple on Monday this week and they finally made the choice to replace it completely and I upgraded to a retina just by paying the difference.

This is my mac's info. I got it as a gift from australia. Initial 3 months it gave me a superb service, but recently it's having a major overheating issue,it shoots up up to 87 degrees. Is it possible that any other components are damaged somehow? Usually the temperature shoots up while I play online streamings.

Hi everyone.
I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2013) that has been crashing regularly. I ran Apple diagnostics and have a fault - 4hdd/11/4000000:sata(0,0). I recognise that I will have to replace the SSD, but sadly, it is out of warranty. I am planning to book an appointment with the Genius Bar in London, but before I go, I would very much like to know how much it will cost to replace the 512gb SSD in the UK.

Most MacBook Pro models have built-in Hardware to drive one external display at reasonable resolution and speed. You can install USB devices that will provide additional screens, but the lag is really noticeable.
The default for Mac OS X external screens is "Extended Desktop", which adds the external screen to one edge of the built-in screen to produce a larger Extended desktop that operates as one single device.
Mirroring is also an option, but if the external screen is too different from the Internal screen, you may have to make some serious compromises to get a picture.

Why do the fans on my new Macbook Pro Retina always turn on?

I recently purchased a new Macbook Pro 15'' Retina and the fans seem to, at random, start spinning at full speed...even when the computer is relatively cold and there are very little system process running. This computer is replacing a similar system that was stolen and this never happened with the old computer.
I've tried restarting, checking activity monitor for anything taking up a lot of resources and haven't found anything. Here are a few screenshots of temp information and fan speed:
Is this normal? Should I exchange it? Any advice?

You are not the first to report such a situation with a retina MBP. I would exchange it for a new one if I were in your position. You could try a SMC reset, but I'm not sure it will cure the problem.

Hmmm .... I need help.
I deployed a 10.9.1 from a new MBA image to the new 15" MBPr .... not a good idea. It won't boot because of the special build that the late 2013 requires.
So the original recovery HD is gone, so can't go that route. Now I need help badly. How to get the darn thing to bootup .... or how to start over ?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your Late 2013 MacBook Pro comes with Internet Recovery, which can be used without needing a Recovery partition. To start up in Internet Recovery, hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your Mac is starting, and reinstall OS X. You will get OS X 10.9.1, and the Mavericks installer will create the OS X Recovery partition.
Your MacBook Pro requires a special OS X 10.9.1 build that is not available for any other Mac, and you cannot install the "normal" OS X 10.9.1 version on your MacBook Pro. Apple will fix this in a future update, when your MacBook Pro and all other Macs use the same OS X build.

I brought it into Apple and had it looked at. The response was that I had three options.
1. Pay Apple $1,200 for a new case and assembly
2. Send case to China, lose the Mac for 2 weeks and pay $600 to replace the case
3. Accept the damage and consider it to be having "added character" to the Macbook.
I chose the latter of the three options and haven't looked back since. I actually have a story to tell with my Mac and a good laugh.
My recommendation however to anyone reading this would be to review if the damage is cosmetic (which mine is) or if it's functional damage. In my case, as I'm a photographer and this was my very first Mac, I wanted it to remain in perfect condition for as long as possible. That being said, I now see the construction of the device to be absolutely amazing. The design and unibody construction protected the Mac from shattering the glass. If this had been any other laptop device I am positive that the damage would have been functional in nature and I would have been spending money to resolve the issue.
The only thing that I ended up getting rid of was my backpack. I now use a breifcase from Saddleback Leather Company. The combination of the two have made me far happier.

How to setup thunderbolt bridge between two macbook Pro (retina and 2011 )?

I have a new 13" MB Pro retina and want to use the thunderbolt bridge btween the 13" and the 15" MB pro 2011.
Somehow I cannot do anything with this, and on both laptops it shows the the Thunderbolt slots as "Inactive". I have connected the the two laptops via the new Thunderbolt cable.
I looked around and there is no documentation on how to make this happen. The documentations are very thin or non existent.
I want to use this mechanism to transfer my data from my old MB pro to the new retina one.

unfortunately the option to select thunderbolt/firewire never comes up.
It directly goes to the options from where to transfer and then upcon clicking on it. It keeps on looking with the spinner icon showing and it never finds the other computer.
It does see it through the wiresless but not through thunderbolt.
The more I look to make this happen the more I am convinved that this feature is not fully baked and does not really work as the documentation on "Thunderbolt bridge" setup is next to none existent and only one perons through macrumors has supposedly managed this. It is really a shame as I was looking forward to use this new capability.

Are there any MacBook Pro Retinas available in Apple Retail stores in Canada?

I have been searching for the past two weeks in the Vancouver region for a MacBook Pro with Retina, and I've come up dry every day. I have gotten different stories from the same Apple Stores, either saying they have been getting shipments periodically throughout the week, while another Apple Rep said they have received nothing since launch day. What is going on?

Its pretty easy to setup dication ill list the steps below
1. Insure you have Moutian Lion installed os 10.8 if you purchased a rentina macbook pro you are eligable for a free upgrade this is obtainable from www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/
2. Go to system preferences in your dock(or in lanuch pad)
3. Under system click on dication and speech
4. Turn dication on
5. Press the FN key twice to use dication this is the default key and can be changed in the same menu in which you turned dication on

How well will Premier run on a MacBook Pro Retina i7 with only 8GB of RAM?

My niece wants to do some video editing using Premier and we were wondering if there would be a problem running it on a MacBook Pro with i7 and retina display with only 8GB of RAM? I know 16GB would be better but that is not an option at this point. She is not looking at really large projects.

I am running Vista Home Premium with 2GB RAM and 2ghz processor just fine. I used to run XP too prior to upgrading to Vista. XP undoubtedly flew with 2GB RAM however Vista runs smoothly as well.
As far as overheating is concerned, both XP and Vista run hotter than OSx and noticeably so. The thing to note is that Vista does not run any hotter than XP on my macbook pro.
