How many cycles should ibook G4 battery last for?

I got my ibook last year right before school started and still love it. The only problem is the battery seems to be dying on me. I've heard that the batteries should last about 2 years or maybe a little less.
Mine says its gone through about 270 cycles, and it dies in about 5-10 minutes without being plugged in now, even with the screen brightness on the lowest and energy saver being used etc...
I just wanted to know if this is common or if it isnt how I would go about getting a new battery because I dont have the $ to pay for one unfortunately but I need my ibook for schoolwork.

Welcome to Discussions!
Apple's batteries are designed to hold upto 80% of their charge after 300 cycles. Of course, its "upto", and not guaranteed.
You can try this to see if you can't get a little bit more out of it: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86284

  • How Many Cycles Should A MBP Battery Last?

Any idea how many cycles a MBP battery should have?

Expected life is 500 cycles, but your mileage may vary. See the following:

  • I have a MacBook Pro 15" mid 2010.  My battery has 326 cycles.  It is not lasting more than 1 hr and a few minutes before needing a charge.  How many cycles should it have?

I have a MacBook Pro 15" mid 2010 that was purchased in summer of 2010.  My battery has used 326 cyles.  Is this normal for these batteries after two years?  How many cycles should I expect to get out of it before getting a new one?  Also, it only last about 1 hour plus about 30 minutes before needing to be charged again.

The battery is considered a 'consumable' item by Apple - I know that newer models (not sure about 2010's) are supposed to 'last' to about 1,000 cycle counts. But it all depends on how you've used (or abused) your battery as to how long it's going to last. I've 182 cycles on my 8 month old MBP and my battery 'health' is at 98%: I can still get a good 6 1/2 hours out of it...
...if you want more battery time, you're just going to have to buy a new battery or, if you purchased AppleCare, see if Apple will replace it gratis. I doubt that they will, though...

  • How many cycles should my battery have? If it dies with less can I contact someone about it?

Just curious. My Macbok Pro battery has stopped charging all together. It reads that it has cycled 203 times. Is this normal for these many? Trying to find a way to ask Apple but I can't even figure out which number I call for a simple question like this. Any help would be awesome!

find your model here and see what its maxumum cycle count is: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1519.  And if your battery is over one year old, it is out of warranty and you will have to buy a new one, regardless of how many cycles are on it.

  • How many hours should i charge iPod touch for the first time?

    please help.

Charge as long as you want. If the battery indicator have a plug image then it's full otherwise you see a lightning image. Apple advices to discharge (use it till it's empty) once a month to prolong battery life.

  • How many paper should i have to give for certification

    hi all,
i have heard a news that for ABAP Certificaion, threre are three paper i-e,
    1)Begginer.
    2)Associate.
    3)Professional.
Is it right or wrong.kindly update me so i'll prepare for my exam.
    Thanks,

For any kind of certification in SAP, you need to just take one certification test.
The "papers" that you mentioned are actually levels.
If you are a fresher, please go for the "Associate" level certification.
Similarly, depending on your experience, you can go for other levels directly.
Please note that you need not pass 3 "papers" or "levels" to be certified.
Every level in itself is a certification.
Request you to contact SAP India Office at the given numbers on above link. Or contact any Authorized Training Center in your city.

  • How many years can an Ipod Touch last?

    Hello,
I have a year old 16g 2nd Gen Touch. Was wondering how many years
an Ipod Touch will last for. I realize you only get a certain amount of
charge cycles but was hoping that my Touch would last for a few years or more.
I realize that due to the nature of this device I will not be getting the same
number of years that my Nintendo DS has (still working fine after being
almost 5 years old). I also charge my Ipod Touch daily due to the fact that I use
the wifi and play games. I make sure to turn off the wifi when not using wifi but usually do not get much battery usage on a charge due to using it just for those
2 things. I did not get the extended warranty. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Like already mentioned, there really isn't a definitive answer to your question. I also have several iPod models (2 2nd gen nanos, 1 1st gen nano, 1 shuffle, 1 30 GB Classic, and a 3rd gen iPod Touch). Since the Touch is only 1 day old I can't say how it will hold up, but all of my iPods are still working, although the 1st gen nano has horrible battery life at this point. All of them are at least 2 years old. Until earlier this year I also had a iPod Mini that was still working and it has been years since they made that model. There are too many factors to consider when it comes to trying to predict the life span of your iPod.

  • MBP Retina - how many cycles will battery live

This battery can be never changed (is is really so ? ). How many cycles then it will keep its acceptable battery life before it is good for nothing ? Should one try to use this battery only sparimgly when inevitable to avoid its end sooner or later (that would make this laptop basically useless ?)

The battery can, supposedly, be changed by Apple techs... I don't know of anyone yet who has had the battery changes but I'm thinking it can be accomplished.
The battery should be able to go through at least 1,000 cycles before showing significant degradation. That's the Apple spec.
And, no, you shouldn't use the battery sparingly. It's there to be used and works best if it gets a healthy workout now and again. As the Nike commercials say, just do it, my thought on batteries is just use it - wisely, though. Don't let it completely run down, be aware of which apps will drain the battery quicker, if you don't use it that often let it drain down to 30-40% at least once every two weeks, etc.
Best advice, though, Just Use It.

I don't know that Apple has published that information, but my guess is about five years under normal usage.

  • How long does the IPhone5c battery last for without hardly any usage with about 2/3 to 3/4 left?

How long does the IPhone5c battery last for without hardly any usage with about 2/3 to 3/4 left?
Has the side affect of charging, where the battery's life gradually decreases overall with each charge, been fixed ?

    Eric,
They did say 12-14 hours, but as is always the case with such estimates, they invariably quote the 'best possible scenario' and almost never mirror 'real world' conditions.
If, from a fully charged position, you simply switch on your nano, and set it to continuously play through a long set of songs, with EQ off, backlight off, modest volume (50%) don't touch it during playback, then you might just get somewhere near this figure - and if you don't then it's either not been conditioned properly or it's faulty.
If you use it like me, daily for a couple of hours, with 2 secs backlight and switch songs regularly, using fairly high volumes then 6-8 hours is more likely. It'll even drain when it's not in use, even in sleep mode, albeit very slowly. They also tend to drain more quickly before they've been through their first few charge cycles (the conditioning period).
Personally I haven't got a problem with this though I can understand why some people have. It's not very impressive in this respect. Apple should be able to come up with something much better - maybe they should talk to Sony

Being new to iBook publishing I need to know if stats are available to determine how many times my iBook has been downloaded. Can anyone help please? I need to persuade someone that this really is worthwhile. Mr Ignorant.

The only people who can possibly assist you with this is Apple Customer Relations, call your local Apple contact number and ask for Customer Relations then explain your situation clearly and politely (be firm but don't rant).
You might want to investiage what the local laws are regarding defective goods and 'fit for use' definitions on warranties etc. Consumer Protection can be a useful tool to use or bargain with if needed ...
