How many external displays dose the Retina MBP suport?
How many external displays dose the Retina MBP support? I have herd conflicting information about this, an apple store employee told me that it could support 2 thunderbolt displays while simultaneously running a HDMI connected display (witch would be awesome if true) but I am extremely skeptical, that seems like to much for one GPU.
Graphics and Video support:
Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, at millions of colors
Thunderbolt digital video output
Native Mini DisplayPort output
DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (sold separately)
VGA output using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter (sold separately)
Dual-link DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter (sold separately)

How many external displays does the 15 inch support?
I spend 90% of my time at a desk developing, using multiple monitors. My current Windows system can support up to 4 displays, normally I run with 3. I was wondering how many external displays one can hook up to the 2.3GHz Macbook Pro. I need at least 3 displays while still having a thunderbold for external drives and eithernet. Does the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter allow splitting the single to two different monitors? Other then the Thunderbolt display, is there a way to get multiple monitors out of one Thunderbolt port?
From http://support.apple.com/kb/SP690 -> "Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, both at millions of colors".
But there may be ways of driving three monitors - maybe someone with a Retina Display model will jump in. I know that on my 15" 2011 model, I can only drive two Apple Thunderbolt Displays.
Good luck,

T430u: How many external displays can it handle?
I want to get a new computer, that can power three displays at once. Preferably three external monitors, maybe even four.
I was thinking of getting either an ultrabook, T430u or X1 Carbon. Or a think branded desktop.
Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks
Solved!
Go to Solution.ThinkPad T430u can handle one internal, one through hdmi, and one through miniDP. So in 3 in total (natively). If you need additional LCD support, maybe consider an ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock, which allows you to add another 2 screens support per dock (for a total of 2 docks or 4 additional screens).
X1 can can handle one miniDP external screen, not sure whether Displayport 1.2 passthrough works on them or not.

How many external monitors can the i7 Macbook Pro run?
I have two external 22" LCD. Can the new i7 Macbook Pro run both of these?
Yes, (assuming the minidisplay port is as capable as on the earlier models) but you will need additional hardware.
Have a look at http://daggle.com/macbook-pro-multimonitor-4-monitors-at-once-1577 and http://www.codza.com/triple-monitor-setup-unibody-macbook

How do I connect an external Display to the new MC814XX/A
I can't find a port for an external display in the NEW Imac 27" Mid 2011 (MC814XX/A)... I'm trying to connect my Cintiq to it. How do I work arround this?
You need an adapter cable that plugs into the Thunderbolt port. The Minidisplay port to HDMI or MDP to DVI will work. Then you plug a HDMI cable (or DVI) into that adapter and the TV.

I have tried everything I can find on line but they all claim that the plug and play works, and they don't for me. I tried the mini dvi to HDMI and a HDMI cord and that was not recognized no matter which unit I rebooted first. I found someone who said that my Macbook might be too old for the HDMI technology so I returned the cords and went to the VGA cord and adaptor.
I tried this first with the HDMI setup:

Then I tried this with the VGA setup:

I contacted Samsung support and they said I needed to set the display settings to external display on the mac. I went to the display settings and moved the icon to my status bar. When I click on search for displays or whatever it says (I'm not at my Mac right now) it does nothing.
What am I missing?I am using MAC OSx 10.5.8 (9L31a) as my operation system. The TV says "No signal. Check connected device's power, cable connection and source selection." Seems to me that that goes in hand with what the Samsung tech said about the Mac needing to be forces to use the external display. But how do I do that?

How do you configure the Retina MBP with larger SSD? FW800-to-TB?
The Apple site shows a line that says you can configure it up to 768 I think. But then there is no option on the config page. 256 is not going to cut it even just for programs.
Having to wait for FW800-to-TB adapters is also asinine. Many of us have our whole lives on FW drives. The adapter should launch with the box.
There is also no option for a true anti-glare screen which was a major draw for me; anyone know if the Retina MBP screen is anti-glare? Glossy is not for me or my work.
Thanks ----
jfFirst, you need everything transferred from the SSD to the HDD including OS X. Boot from the SSD. Open Users & Groups preferences. Cllick on the lock icon and authenticate. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on your user account in the list. Select Advanced Options. Click on the Choose button to the right of the field labeled, Home dir:. Locate your user folder on the HDD (/HDD/Users/your_user_folder/. Click on the Open button. You must restart your computer.
After restart you will be booting from the SSD but using the Home folder that is located on the HDD. You can now delete the contents of your user folder on the SSD. This should be limited to the contents of the Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders. This should free up considerable space on the SSD. -
I bought my iPhone5 4 months ago and now the camera is not working, it only displays black in the screen. I've tried reset, restore for how many times but still the problem is not being resolve. Any help from you Apple team?
There is no Apple here, this is a user to user forum. When you said you restored, then you restore as NEW?
If you restored as New and still the problem persiist, then it time to take a trip to the Apple store. -

How can i connect to a LAN and external display at the same time using the mini-displayport?
Hi all,
At work i'm connected to the Lan via an adapter and the mini displayport. I want to use my external display at the same time, which use the same mini displayport. Are there any splitters available to use both at the same time? Are there any other alternatives?
Thanks,

External Displays and the (current model) 20" iMac
Hi there
I'm considering the purchase of a 20" iMac...the current model retailing at circa £949...and I wondered how many external monitors it could support? I'm aware that there's one monitor out port (either mini display port or mini DVI, not sure), but it is possible for the mac to support TWO external monitors?
I've used a three monitor setup when using a PC before and it was a really useful expansion to the screen real estate for the tasks at hand. It would be good to know how many monitors the iMac could support though! The current (2009) iMac has a Mini DisplayPort. You need an adapter for DVI to connect a typical digital display, although I've noticed that some recent lower end displays use HDTV LCD panels and only have an HDMI connection. If the display is DVI, this is the adapter you need.
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A?mco=NDcwODI4MQ
With this adapter, you can go up to 1920x1200 (a typical 24" display).
With a Mini DisplayPort, you can connect a dual-link DVI display (2560x1600), a 30" display. You need a different adapter for dual-link.
You can only add one more display the normal way. However, OWC recently introduced a USB-based video adapter.

You can use it for the third display, if you really need it. -

How can I display all the columns on the screen without scrolling from side to side?
My clinic software has many columns. How can I display all the columns without having to scroll from left to right all the time?
If the software you are using doesn't offer the ability to increase or decrease document size, as many do, then the only way is to increase your screen resolution. If that's not possible, maybe you can decrease your font size? If you can't do any of these, I think you're out of luck!

Using an external display with the macbook air
hi, i wanna know if i can use an external display with the macbook air as the tunderbolt is a bit pricey? i was thinking about buyin a LCD moniter wih a VGA port. many thanks
Yes. You can use VGA DVI or HDMI monitors by buying a Minidisplay port to xxx adapter and the the appropriate cable (vga, dvi or hdmi).
The MiniDisplayport adapter plugs into the Thunderbolt port.
Regards,
Captfred
Here's a sample HDMI adapter. All these available in the Apple online store.
