How many firewire devices..?

So I have a dual 2.0 G5 with an RME fireface and a Mackie Onyx 400f chained together and acting as an aggregate device over firewire (400). All well and good. But I'd now like to add an external firewire hard drive (or two), and possibly a PowerCore firewire.
I imagine I can't go on chaining devices forever, so I guess my question is, how many devices can I add before I start seeing problems? Is a couple of audio interfaces and a couple of hard drives too many already, without throwing a PowerCore into the mix?
Would appreciate advice from anyone who already has a whole bunch of devices chained... how's it working out for you?
Thanks!

Miles:
Currently, I have six. No problems, but I'm not using similar devices.
The only problem I ever had with multiple devices was the order they are chained, so you might have to experiment (usually I found that disks work best at the end of the chain).
The max number is 63, 16 on one chain - so you have some room to grow

  • How many firewire disks ???

    how many firewire disks can i connect to my mac mini, so it has only one port, and what is the difference between macs equipped with two ports instead of one, there are two different firewire cards or it is just like an internal hub
    thanks

    The FireWire bus will allow you to connect 67 devices to a single bus. However, I believe the limit of the Finder and the HFS+ (Mac OS Extended) format only allows for 23 different hard drives to appear on your Desktop. You may still be able to mount more, but I'm not entirely sure they'll all be visible on the Desktop...

  • How many Firewire busses?

    Hi there,
    i just wonder how many firewire busses (NOT ports) my MacPro actually has... There is very few documentation about this. So maybe are the front ports on their own bus, or share all ports the same bus?
    I ask cos i want to know if i have to buy an additional firewire card if i want to plug an audio interface and an additional device...
    Thanks a lot, best regards
    Flo

    Hi Flo,
    sadly (?) I have a 2006 Mac Pro and not a 2009
    But with my usage being mostly external harddrives I have no problems connecting and using more than one of them at the same time.
    No downfall speedwise.
    But with a firewire audio device the mileage might vary.
    Best to have a look at the manufacturer websites or Communities dealing with firewire audio devices for user experiences.

    From personal experience, if they are bus powered portable drives,
    the answer is none.  For what ever reason, they are draw a lot of
    power and are probably near the edge of the bus powering specs.
    Then again, these were the fastest of all the portable FW drives that
    I have (Iomega and Seagate being the others), which may have
    something to do with it.
    I had also noticed an issue with them even with USB.  Plugging one
    into the Mini or even a powered USB hub would be fine, but 2 would cause
    both to be inaccessible, unless I used a couple of USB "Y" cables
    that would distribute the power across other ports.
    If they are externally powered, you could string a bunch.

    How many wireless devices can connect to an Express which is wired and extending an Extreme network?

    That is great news I have A1392s. One more question...
    If I have an Airport Extreme setup as a router and feeding internet from a modem/ I wire an express (A1392) and "create a wireless network" the airport utility puts the express into bridge mode automatically.
    How many wireless clients can I connect simultaneously to the express?
    How many wireless clients can I connect simultaneously to the extreme assuming I am using all 50 at the express?
    In other words, Could I have 50 wireless clients connected to each device simultaneously giving me a total of 100 wireless clients?

    Several users have also maderecent  reference to the iPad in education web site...it's located here

  • How many wireless devices can be connected at once to an airport extreme?

    How many wireless devices can be connected to an airport extreem at one time? I have 4 iphones and 2 ipads, a goolge chrome and 4 wired devices.

    Any AirPort Extreme produced since 2008 will support up to 50 wireless devices and 150+ wired devices simultaneously, so this should accommodate most users in most homes.

  • How many Apple devices can connect to one account? If I get 2 iPads for my home can they get apps under the same account or different accounts?

    I am wanting to purchase an iPad for myself and kids but I am wondering if they need to be setup under a different Apple account or just one. What about my iPhone that is under that account? So how many devices can be linked to an account before it is maxed out?

    I'm not sure what the total limit is (or if there is one), but two iPads and one iPhone is no problem - you only need one account and you can have the same apps on all three devices if you want without any issues (I have an iPad, iPhone and iPod without problems). There was a thread a few weeks ago about a newspaper app (though it could have been a magazine), where the issue could only be downloaded to one device, but that is the only time I've heard about that limit.

  • How many iPad devices can be connected to the same account to share iTunes (apps not only music)?

    I'm trying to figure out if I can share the apps I have on my ipad with other iPads and if so, how many. I have read the Home Sharing information on the website (max 5 devices in your household if they are connected to your house wi-fi) but does it mean that they all have to be in the same place using the same wi-fi connection?
    Thanks

    You can have up to 10 devices.

    How many ipods/iphones/ipads can one have on an account?

    Your Apple ID can have up to 10 devices and computers (combined) associated with it. Each computer must also be authorized using the same Apple ID. Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days. You can view which devices or computers are currently associated, remove unused devices or computers, and see how long before they can be associated with a different Apple ID from the Account Information page in iTunes on your computer:

  • How many BLE device can be connected at once?

    Hi, is anyone having idea how many pcs of bluetooth low enegry device can be connected at once with iphone?

    You can only connect to one device of each type at a time. I regularly have my iPad connected to a BT keyboard and BT speakers at the same time. I could not, however, pair it to two different BT speakers. My phone is generally connected to multiple things as well (Pebble watch, Jawbone UP and speakers or a headset).
    I have about a dozen things paired at any given time.

    I am new to ITunes.  My question is when I donload and purchase a song to my computer...how many devices can I download that song to ie: IPhone,Nano, IPad.

    There is no limit to the number of iOS devices you can sync content to.
    The only limitation is that you can only store and play those songs on up to 5 computers at a time.

  • How many iOS devices can I use with my iTunes Store account?

    Question about the number of devices i can add to an account
    Family of four -
    1 desk top
    3 macbook pros
    3 ipads
    4 iphones
    I am well over the number of devices i can add to my I Tunes account - how can i share movies and music with my family on all these devices? - only want to purchase music and movies once - probably an easy answer out there but i cannot find it.
    Thanks for taking a look at my question.
    Dave

    Not sure what you mean.
    What limit are you talking about?
    You can sync as many iphones, ipods, ipads as you like to one computer/library.
    Authorization applies only to computers.  Iphones/ipad/ipods are not authorized at all.

  • How many FW devices can you daisy chain?

    Have a new iMac w/ one FW800 port. Need to daisy chain eight FW800 hard drives, two FW400 hard drives, and one FW400 DigiDesign Digi002 ProTools mixing board. I was planning on daisy chaining all the FW800 drives then coming out of the last of those with a FW800 to FW400 cable into the first FW400 drive, daisy chaining to the 2nd FW400 drive, then daisy chain from it into the FW400 ProTools mixing board. I know that's a lot of chaining but at the moment those are the devices I have to work with. I have A LOT of video and audio information I need to retain. Seems to me that I read somewhere about a maximum length a firewire daisy chain could be but haven't found any more reference to it when I just looked. All of the devices have their own power supplies so I don't believe they will be drawing much, if any power from the chain. Anybody know of any problems with this setup?

    Thanks for the info.
    I've tried several scenarios and combinations what I've found is that I can put all the FW800 drives in a daisy chain then put the 1st FW400 drive in and lastly the Digi002 mixing board (which is FW400). When I try to add to this any more drives I get unpredictable results. I have therefore bough another 2TB external drive and hooked it up through USB 2.0 and copied many files to it from the older FW400 drives as well as the only FW800 drive that ever game me headaches. It should be noted that it is a Western Digital My Book drive. It seems like it would be a great drive having FW800, FW400, and USB 2.0 connections. In practice, however, I have had LOTS of problems both on my Macs and PCs I tried using it on. I recommend strongly that you avoid using any MY Book drives. I'm having better luck with practically any other manufacturer, including what I would normally consider no names like SimpleTech and Buffalo. Those drives seem much more stable.

  • How many concurrent devices does home sharing on iTunes support?

    On my appleTV, if I'm watching something from my home iTunes library through home sharing, then on another device, like my iphone, I access the same shared library through home sharing, the appleTV immediately drops connection and cannot see the shared iTunes library.
    This happens across all devices, yet apple specifically mentions the need to use the same appleID across all devices.  If I cannot home share to multiple devices at once, how will this EVER work.
    Is there something I might have configured wrong?  If I enable home sharing on enough devices, you cannot possibly complete a full TV show on the appletv without at least one of them accessing the library and kicking it off.
    How would 2 appleTVs ever work at the same time to stream different programs from the itunes library?

    Hi Faiz,
    There are not any known issues in terms of URLs failing. I would perform a packet capture on the WSA. See my instructions below:
    In order to obtain a simultaneous packet capture from the WSA & PC you will need to log into the GUI ->Support and Help -> Packet Capture -> Edit Settings -> Select the radial button No Filter.Please send me a packet capture from the WSA unfiltered. You will need to install wireshark on the PC or laptop you are testing from. It is a good idea to start the wireshark program from the PC first.  I would recommend using www.iana.org as a test as it uses only on IP address.
    When you have the captures completed I would first look at the WSA packet capture and use the following filter in wireshark http contains "www.iana.org". The various streams of communication will populate in the wireshark display. What you want to focus on is the streams that show the IP of the WSA and the IP of www.iana.org 192.0.32.8. We should see the following when you right mouse click the packet which shows the IP of the WSA going to the destination IP of www.iana.org:
    WSA IP -------SYN-----> www.iana.org IP
    WSA IP <--SYN/ACK-- www.iana.org IP
    WSA IP -------ACK-----> www.iana.org IP
    If you see this instead:
    WSA IP -------SYN-----> www.iana.org IP
    WSA IP -------SYN-----> www.iana.org IP
    WSA IP -------SYN-----> www.iana.org IP
    WSA IP -------SYN-----> www.iana.org IP
    Then you have a problem in your network.
    Sincerely,
    Erik Kaiser
