How many GB is an iMovie?

I need to burn a couple copies of my iMovie but my version of Macbook doesn't have a DVD burner. I'm trying to put it on a flash drive to move it to another computer that is able to burn DVD's. I need to know the size of my iMovie. The movie is 9:35. (Nine minutes thirty five seconds)

Plan B)
... connect both machines with a cheap 6/6pin firewire cable...
launch MacBook AND hold the button 'T' on your keyboard..
your MB is now in Target-Mode/a 'firewire connected harddrive', which will appear on the other Mac...
proceed as usual on other Mac...

  • OK, many of us loaded iMovie 6, How do we get out of this mess?

Sorry, this is long. I have been working on this problem for about three weeks and reading all of the posting on this forum. Like many people on this board I THOUGHT I was upgrading to iMovie 6. WHAT A DISASTER !!! I have posted several questions to this discussion board about the individual problems that I have ran into. I have read about all the problems that others are having and talked to Apple tech support many times.
THE FIRST PROBLEM that I ran into was that since I run three monitors I need two video cards. I have a Dual 2 GHz PowerMac G5 with a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro in the AGP slot . This video card runs two of my monitors. I also have a ATI Radeon VGA video card in a PCI slot, it runs my third monitor. It turns out that the second video card is not Quartz Extreme supported. I called Apple tech support and a specialist told me to buy another Radeon 9600 Pro. I called MacMall to order the video card and their tech guy said yes that video card will fix you up.
I got the video card and found out that the G5 only had one AGP slot, I guess i should have known that. I called MacMall and after an hour or so on the phone they finally gave me an "RMA" so I could return the board. I call a second time Apple back and got another specialist, you never get the same one. He assures me that he knows what he is talking about and that I should get a Radeon 9200, that it is Quartz Extreme compatible and fits in a PCI slot. I call MacMall and talk to tech support they tell me they have the video card and it will work for me. I get the video card, install it and it is not Quartz Extreme compatible.
I call Apple, get a specialist and he tells me that Apple does not know what video cards will work. That is the responsibility of the video card manufactures to test which video cards will work in which machines. This time I am referred to an Apple web page, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303683 , that recommends a nVIDIA GeForce2 MX video card. I have done a lot of research on the nVIDIA web site, talked to them on the phone and so far no luck at finding out which video card might work. I also called Radeon and was told that they do not make a video card that is Quartz Extreme compatible for a PCI slot.
I call MacMall and really get a run-a-round about sending the video card back to them. That was Thursday and so far I do not have an RMA to send the video card back to MacMall. I reinstalled the old video card, and of course have the same problem. However someone on this discussion suggested that I unplug the third monitor from the second video card, I did and now "Ken Burns and the other effects work. Of course I am operating with one of my monitors. I can deal with the video card incompatibility until I find a new video board. I know I am spoiled. You can see my system at: http://www.waskomtexas.com/spaceship/visit.html .
THE SECOND PROBLEM that I along with several other people on this discussion board is the "STUTTERING" of the audio. I have been working on a family history DVD project for several months. I may have started with iMovie 4, I am not sure. I have opened some of the finished movies, that I know were done in iMovie 5 and they stutter, are they corrupted by iMovie 6?
I did find that if I would drag "com.apple.iMovie.plist" out of the library to the desktop the stuttering would stop for a while, but I need to test this some more.
In summary I am shut down until I can find a way to overcome the stuttering problem. I have read how to go back to iMovie 5, sounds like a lot of trouble. Wonder if the movies that I have completed in iMovie 6 will open in iMovie 5? I should have known better than to install new software until I had read this forum. Has anyone heard anything about Apple correcting the stuttering problem? Any suggestions as to how to deal with the stuttering problem?

I really thank the people on this forum for the help and suggestions.
I opened a new movie and named it Childhood IV. I copied and pasted all of the pictures into the new movie form the original movie Childhood. Next I copied the music from the original to the new movie in the lower sound bar and saved the movie. The sound works fine no stutters. I reopen the new movie, it still plays with no stutters. I copy and paste 24 narration clips into the top sound bar. I saved the new movie and closed the movie and quit iMovie.
I reopened iMovie and childhood IV, it runs just fine. I copied 13 more clips and pasted them into the new movie and no stutters. I have several other programs running in the background, Safari, Mail, iTunes, and Address Book. I restarted my computer, opened the movie and no stutters. I also opened Mail. I opened the original movie "Childhood", it still stutters. The new one still runs with no stutters. I copied 12 more clips, I am getting a slight bit of stutter. I save it as Childhood V, I want to see if IV will reopen and run with out stuttering.
I restarted the computer and opened "Childhood V" and it has a slight stutter. I closed V and opened IV. It still sounds file.? I reopened V and added 10 more clips, I could not tell much difference, but it seemed a little worse. I closed V and reopened IV. I copied the same 13 clips into IV as I had done before to see if the problem would repeat it's self. I ran it with out saving it and no stutter. I closed iMovie. Reopened iMovie and "Childhood VI", no stutter. I copied 10 more clips into Movie VI and no stutter. I saved movie VI.
I restarted the machine and opened movie VI and it has a slight stutter. My conclusions are:
    1. is that it is hard to repeat a problem and make it work the same way twice.
    2. I believe that the file is good, but fore some reason it will not play back without the stutter. However, This makes it impossible to continue working on a movie, because once it starts stuttering I can not add any more narration.
    3. I believe that there is something wrong with the software and hope that Apple will fix it soon. Lots of times software companies take the cake out of the oven before it is finished baking. They let us do the R&D.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can trouble shoot this more?

  • Titles disappear in iMovie. Is there a limit to how many?

I'm making a little video trailer. Nothing fancy. I have a video clip running and I just want to put some faded in/out titles over it. I drag in a title into the first part of the clip, change the text, hit apply, and change the duration to 3.0 seconds. I put another title in right after it, change the text, and duration to 3.0 seconds. Everything's fine. But when I try to put in a third title, the second title disappears. No matter how I try to add another title (double-clicking to insert at playhead or drag/drop) the second title always disappears.
Is there a limit to how many titles I can put in? I didn't think I was doing anything fancy here.
    (OSX 10.10 Yosemite, iMovie 10.0.6)

Having same trouble. Someone else said they found they had a sliver of a reminder of a caption that was hidden somewhere and causing the problem, but I don't know how they found that sliver; I certainly cannot find anything of the sort. I am up to exactly 10 captions, which makes me wonder about limits; how many had you placed before it stopped accepting them?

  • How can I see how many entries in an address Book group ?

I used to be able to see at a glance how many entries there were in any particular group.
This now seems to have vanished :-(
Can I get it back easily ?

I agree with Bengt W. There are many reasons, even in a simple movie, to want to know the timing of things. This is a surprisingly frustrating product. For want of timing information, you are requiring your users to pay $300?
In my situation, I took some video of a show (with the performers permission) with an iPad and an iPod.  All I want to do is make a movie with one video as the main position with a series of cutaway clips from the other. It is incredibly frustrating to do this without knowing where you are within each clip.
When helpful and capable forum participants like we have here have to spend time explaining how best to make do with a product, it's a clear indication of a fault with the product. Now, I either have to spend extra time in iMovie making due with this crippled interface, or I have to spend time looking for an alternative product.
    Consider this a feature request!

  • I just updated my iTunes and I do not like the newer version.....can I go back to the earlier version??  This new version does not have the iTunes DJ nor does is show at the bottom as in the earlier version how many songs and the size of my library.

I just updated my iTunes on 12-7-2012 and I do not like the newer version.....can I go back to the earlier version??  This new version does not have the iTunes DJ nor does is show at the bottom as in the earlier version how many songs and the size of my library.

To do this in iMovie 11. use the SHARE menu. Share your project using the Share menu and choose Export Using QuickTime.
In the Dialog box that comes up, choose Sound to AIFF, or one of the other sound options. This will create a file that you can drag into iTubes.

  • How many Slideshows

How many slideshows can I have on 1 DVD? How can I add text to my photos on a slideshow for the last photo of the slideshow. Also can I add more than one song to a slideshow? Thanks..

    Hi tonyrg,
    Welcome to discussions!
There are several things you that you can do to end up with what you are asking for. You can create a longer slideshow in iDVD. You can also create a slideshow in iMovie, and export it into an iDVD project. Also, for future reference, you're going to want to post your question as a new topic, as it is in the middle of another topic that is being discussed.

  • How can I add 16 iMovies

How can I add 16 iMovies to my iDVD. It is only allowing me to add 10. is there another template can use?

Hmmm, iDVD6 should be able to do 60 minutes at best performance and 120 minutes with best quality when using normal single layer DVDs, so the 83 minutes doesn't seem to be the issue as you must already be set for best quality (120 minutes max) to get that far. Unless your 11th movie puts you over 120 minutes?
I have never added that many movies to a single DVD project before, so never ran into this issue. I wonder if there is an upper limit to the number of different projects you can add.

    Hi
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • How many GB on 60minute Mini DV tape

just wondering how many GBs of info there is on a 60 minute mini dv tape.
I ask this because i imported about 40mins of (very boring) footage into imovie. The resulting project in the time line was about 7GB. As i wanted to put the footage on a single layer 4.7 GB DVD i foresaw probs. Unless Wheen u export to idvd the size of the original file decreases...?
Sorry that i've asked many questions in one post and that its a bit messy, but any answers would be very helpful.
    Thanks
    Tony

Hi Anthony - about 12 GB per hour of video. You can place max 120 minutes of iMovie footage onto a single layer DVD - actually a little less than that as IDVD themes etc takes space too. Yes, iDVD compresses the material into MPEG format.

  • How many albums do you have?

How many albums do you have? How much variation do you have between albums?
I have so many pictures I'm having a hard time deciding on how to setup albums.

    John,
I don't have a lot of albums. There's no one-to-one correspondence between photos and albums, so I choose not to use them as my main organizational scheme. I prefer working in Library view, where I do get each photo once and only once. (I use V6 Film Rolls, which is the same as Events in '08.) When importing photos, I place them in my most recent, current roll (event) or begin a new one. Then I keyword all of the new photos, and they're good to go. Working chronologically makes sense to me, and I pretty much remember where my photos are. In addition, I can find any photo or group of photos in my library by filtering by keywords and date.
I use albums for special collections and projects. I have some smart albums for the best photos of my kids' birthdays. I gather photos into albums to prepare for printing. I also create albums for the purpose of adding slideshows to my home movies in iDVD, and to use as title frames in iMovie.
That's just my system; it works for me. iPhoto is so flexible and powerful that in time you'll find one that works for you.
    Regards.

  • How many MBs in Trash?

Does anyone know of an app that will replicate a function in OS 9 that would indicate how many MBs were being deleted when the trash was emptied? It would say something like "do you want to delete xxMB now?". I know of an app called SSW Empty Trash, but it doesn't seem to work. Is there anything else out there?
    Miriam

As Klaus says, although 4GB of movie in iMovie is only about 20 minutes' running time, don't worry: you can fit just under 2 hours onto a DVD, because when your movie is handed over from iMovie to iDVD, iDVD compresses the video into a different format called MPEG-2.
That -squeezes- up to 2 hours' running time onto a 4.7GB DVD, because instead of each frame of your movie taking up the same space as every other frame (..as it does in iMovie's DV format), the -squeezed- MPEG-2 consists of 'key' frames, followed by just descriptions of any differences between the 'key' frame and the ones which follow it.
That makes the movie much more compact, so that a great deal more than you expect can be fitted onto a single video DVD.
[..The huge cratefuls of individual apples which make up the frames of your movie in iMovie are compressed into a much smaller jar of apple juice when the movie is squeezed by iDVD..]

  • How Many Times Can I Use The Same Serial Number For Adobe Creative Suite 4?

I have design standard and was told I can use the same serial number on multiple computers. How many time can I use it? And say I install it on the maximum number of computers, but get a new computer, can I uninstall it on one of the old computers and use it on the new one? And can I use the programs on both computers simultaneously or do I have to use them one at a time?

    Fred Tech wrote:
Broadly speaking, it depends on the type of license you have.
Specifically, if you have a single license then officially, you should only install it once on one computer.
Practically, (unless it has changed with CS4) you maybe able to install it on more then one computer, BUT can only run one instance of the software at a time. You can not run more then one instance of the software concurrently; i.e. you can't run Dreamweaver on Computer 1 and Photoshop on Computer 2. That would be two instances, and is not permitted.
This is my understanding. I am happy to be corrected if I am wrong
    Fred
    Sorry Fred you are wrong.
If you have a single license you can install it on as many computers as you like. you can only activate the suite on two computers at anyone time. Work and Home or as many of us do it Desktop and Laptop. You can not use the computers simultaneously. You only have 20 activation/deactivations so use them wisely. Student versions only have one activation. You can not break up the suite installs the suite is considered one application.

  • HT5622 How many family members, computers, iPods,iPad,IDs can you have on one iTunes account?

I'm just trying to sort out some iTunes I'd issues.  Does anyone know how many total iPad iPods can be used with one Apple ID?  Or how many apple  IDs your can have with one iTunes account? Or does each person need there own Apple ID or Apple account? Thanks

You can't have multiple IDs on one account, but you can use multiple IDs for different purposes on the same device.
Just use the one AppleID for iTunes and the AppStore so you can all share your music and app purchases. Then each person should have their own individual AppleID with associated iCloud account for mail, contacts, calendars, iMessage and FaceTime.
You don't have to use the same AppleID for all services.
