How many hard disks on G4/466???

How is the maximum hard disks that I can connect into my G4/466? Now I have two hard disks... I want to add one more... is possible???
Also: What can I do to accelerate my G4/466??? With System X there're some times is slowly than with system 9.2.2
Thanks

You can put 4 HD's in your DA G4 but you need to get a controller card. Get a SATA HD controller card. There are faster then ata/ide HD's & can be put in a G5, when the times comes.
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Sonnet%20Technology/TSATA/
Just make sure when you get the SATA HD you set the jumper pin to SATA 150/1.5 Mbs because the SATA drives on the market now are SATA II (300/3.0 Mbs)
To make your G4 faster, 1st thing is max out the ram to 1.5gigs. OS X needs ram.
Second is to upgrade the processor, stick w/ the 7455 processor w/ the L3 cache.

  • How many hard drives should i get to get the most out of premiere on my laptop?

    Hello,
I have a 15 inch Macbook Pro Late 2013 with 512gb ssd, 16gb ram and 2gb 750m graphics card. I was wondering how many external hard drives i should get to get the best results in Premiere Pro and After Effects. I'm thinking about buying a smallish portable hard drive for cache and another for media. How many hard drives do you think i should get, what size they should be and how it would improve Premiere and After Effects please.
    Thanks Heaps

I agree with JFP...above.  But if you have a USB3 interface on that MacBook, you can also try using it as I have on my PC laptop
For simplicity on my PC laptop I would just go with a fast USB3 flash drive for the project and media files.  I have several PNY Turbo USB3 128GB units and have recently edited a 1-hour long three AVCHD camera shoot (not multicam mode) with perfect ease.  That way you do not have power cables from hard drives.  I suspect that the new SanDisk Extreme Pro will match those speeds below but at a much higher cost ($140 versus $50).  Never believe the manufacturers speed claims here are real achievable results on the PNY.
That read speed is better than most hard disk drives as it does not fall off as the storage device gets full, and the access time is significantly better despite significant USB overhead.

  • How many firewire disks ???

how many firewire disks can i connect to my mac mini, so it has only one port, and what is the difference between macs equipped with two ports instead of one, there are two different firewire cards or it is just like an internal hub
    thanks

The FireWire bus will allow you to connect 67 devices to a single bus. However, I believe the limit of the Finder and the HFS+ (Mac OS Extended) format only allows for 23 different hard drives to appear on your Desktop. You may still be able to mount more, but I'm not entirely sure they'll all be visible on the Desktop...

  • How many hard drives can fit in a x120e?

Hello, how many hard drives can fit? I'd like to keep the included hard drive but also add a small ~30GB SDD to host Windows on. Is this possible or is there only one free SATA port?

Oh, there's an mPCIe slot? Will this work/fit along the standard HDD?

  • How much hard disk space remains?

Sorry, the Missing Manuel for Lion isn't available until the end of the month, but I have a lot of basic questions.
With Snow Leopard when i opened a Finder window at the very bottom of the window pain was information on how much memmory was being used by whichever folder I had opened.  I know I can hit Tab to have a window pop up and tell me, but I liked that old feature built into the Window.  Is there a way to change the setting back so that when I open a finder window I get a reading on how much hard disk space is being used by X file?

Select Show Status Bar from the Finder's View menu. As far as space used by any one file that is listed under the Size column in the Finder when using List View.

  • How many Hard Drives ?

I've been fortunate to receive a PowerMac G4 733mhz (Digital Audio) along with a Sony 20" CRT monitor at no cost and I'm looking to get all the performance that I can out of it.
So far I've maxed out the RAM and added an iogear USB 2.0 card along with a SIIG Utra ATA 133/100 Pro controller card. The Radeon 9800 pro video card is a couple weeks away yet.
I now have a 160gb and a 60gb as master/slave on the main board, and another 160gb on the controller card in which I'm adding another 80gb to tonight.
I am wondering how many hard drives I can add before I have to start worrying about the power supply. Keep in mind that I'm going to be adding the video card in the future.
I also see that SIIG card says OSX 10.1 or later, does this mean that I cannot connect a drive that boots into OS 9 to the card? Or a drive that may have Yellow Dog Linux?
Thanks, I'd appreciate any input about this new project of mine.

    Hi-
OK, let's talk power.... This is what we have to work with (may be slightly higher depending on PSU model):
    DA 338W PSU
    +5V=20A
    +3.3V=24A
    +28V=4.04A
    +12V=8A
    -12V=0.25A
    Total on combined +3.3V and +5V =126W @32A
Of course, there is a big difference between idle and load power consumption, but I will list maximum power consumption values. Various requirements are:
ATA/100 Hard drive- Read/Write, approx. 12.8W [email protected], [email protected]
Optical Drive- Full Speed (42x) read, approx. 5.6W [email protected], 15.7W [email protected]
Memory (per 512mb DIMM) 1-3W combined 3.3V,+5V,[email protected]
PCI and AGP slots combined max +3.3V, +5V=62W, AGP (only) up to 20W
    Firewire Bus 15W+25V
    USB Bus 5v@500mA per port
    733mhz PPC processor 1.6V 15.6W (Idle) 22.0W (load)
    Fans (combined) +12V [email protected]
As for the Radeon 9800 Pro, under full load, the power requirements are:
    +5V [email protected]
    +12V [email protected]
    +3.3V(AGP) [email protected]
    +5V (AGP) [email protected]
    +12V (AGP) [email protected]
Points to consider (no particular order):
-An ATA hard drive at idle, will still pull 7.2W and at Standby, will pull 1.4W.
-Unless you are running 2 RAID sets, you would rarely, if ever, have 4 drives simultaneously in Read/Write.
-One process that will push a system to the max is disc burning. Consider CPU at load, one, possibly two hard drives at Read/Write load, and the Optical drive at load. (For all who care, this is why we don't multi-task during burning). Without multi-tasking, the graphics power draw is minimal.
-Weak point of early ATX PSU revisions was the 12V rail. The G4 PSU also has a weak +12V rail (only 8A).
(Run a dual internal RAID, and try to burn a disc..... well, you better set the machine up as a headless server.....)
-Total combined +3.3V, +5V wattage and ampherage is sufficient for most fully loaded system and bus combinations.
-The power requirements of the 9800 Pro are all within the maximum limits of the various voltage rails of the OEM PSU.
-A 237W PSU equipped Sawtooth will run without problems with two hard drives (one system, one storage), a 2.0ghz 7447 processor, USB 2.0 PCI, Radeon 9800 Pro and AC VGA fan. Additional hard drive (scratch drive), PCI cards, HDD fans and lighting overload the +12v rail for operation at load with disc burning. (we're talking about real life experience here...)
-Hard drives are heat producers, and an external firewire connected housing can allow for better overall system operation by reducing interior clutter and heat production.
-High interior temperatures reduce the ability of the PSU to cool itself, and thereby reduce it's ability to produce reliable power under load, in the heat.
-Old ATA hard drives are power hogs and hot in comparison to current SATA drives. Switching to two larger SATA drives will reduce load requirements by 3-4W per drive, as well as reduce heat production. Required use off a SATA PCI controller card eliminates the capacity restriction of the native ATA controller. Switching to SATA saves space, power, and cooling needs.
-And, final (random) thought to consider, a dual 500mhz Gigabit Ethernet (same PSU as the DA) will run two ATA drives simultaneously, burn a DVD, with a 9800 Pro installed, without any problems whatsoever. The same machine will run 3D graphics intensive games at enjoyable framerates, without problem. Internet video, on line games, etc., are all enjoyable, with reasonable performance for the given CPU speed. All uses of the machine are without problem, with the added graphics benefit provided by the 9800 Pro (Yep, another real life experience).
    Now, you decide....

  • How many free disk space after install OS X lion (10.7) ?

    Hi,
I would like to know that how many free disk space after install OS X lion (10.7) on MBA i5.
    Many Thanks,
    Eric

I want to buy MBA i5, I would like to free disk space of MBA 13" i5, Could anyone tell it to me? Thanks
As you're buing a new MacBook Air, it will come pre-installed with Lion.  The actual installation will be somewhat larger than a "clean" Lion install as it will come with iLife preinstalled.  Obviously, with an Air's limited storage space, you want to be sure that you have enough room for any applications and data that you'll want to keep on the SSD as well.  It is fairly easy to upgrade the SSD on an Air:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/Aura_Pro_Express
The amount of RAM you have installed is probably more important.  Fortunately, the newest 13" MacBook Airs all come with 4GB standard now.

    Hi,
Based on the following information, your machine can have 4GB of RAM and up to the current limit of standard 2.5" HDD. My suggestion use 750GB HDD with 7,200RPM and 4GB of RAM.
       http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01178403&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
You can buy RAM from the following link or use the info to buy elsewhere:
      http://www.ramcity.com.au/system/42105.htm
Please note: 32bit operating system can "see" 4GB of RAM but does not use all RAM.

  • How many hard drives can i stream from one mac for apple tv

Hi a newbie to all this ive got a 500gb external hd and running out of space but am looking to buy a 1tb but i want to set it up as im using both hard drives so i get 1.5tb as this is a cheaper option for me is this possible and how
    many thanks for your time

You need to turn off the option to copy content to the iTunes folder in iTunes preferences, then when you add new content to iTunes you will need to place the content on one of the HDDs and then drag and drop it onto iTunes from a finder window.
Or you can alternatively leave the "Copy" option on and simply press the Alt-key when dragging and dropping content to momentarily suspend the "Copy" of the dragged content to the library. (I.e., iTunes will gladly manage both copied and non-copied content as long as you do not move or delete the non-copied files at the Finder level after adding them to the iTunes database.)

  • How much hard disk free space?

My mini is used almost exclusively as a media "appliance", hooked up to a large flat panel TV. Installed on the mini itself is the operating system and little more. Attached to it are several (currently 4) large (1 TB) firewire hard drives crammed with movies and TV episodes (I have digitized my extensive DVD collection with Handbrake plus I have nearly stopped buying new DVDs in favor of downloading from iTunes).
My question is how much (what percentage) of these external drives needs to be left empty in order for them to operate with reasonable efficiency. They are virtually "read only" in that once I have uploaded a video file to them, it sits there until and unless I want to watch it (or unless I decide to download it to my MacBook and/or iPad to take with me for watching on trips).
I recall reading years ago that one should keep 10% or so of a hard disk free. Elsewhere, I read it should be as much as 20%. But it strikes me that that would mainly apply to a start-up drive that is constantly being read and written to, not a drive like mine that mainly just stores files and occasionally reads from them.
To re-emphasize, I keep much of my start-up drive free except what's required for the OS so the issue isn't that but just the external storage drives. I hate to waste as much as 400GB of space (100GB on each of four 1 TB drives).

I think your argument has some validity, but since you have a lot of time and effort invested in this project, I personally wouldn't try to cut things too close to the bone.
With drives of that size, I'm comfortable with the 10% rule; perhaps even 5%.
However, with the price of drives falling, perhaps gradually transitioning to larger capacity drives would be a good idea.
My understanding is that most modern drives dynamically re-allocate data from sectors that the drive controller senses are going to fail -- so having an adequate percentage of "wiggle room" makes sense to me.
"Wiggle room" may also come in handy if you ever need to rescue a drive using a utility like DiskWarrior, which needs space to rebuild directory structures.

  • How many restore disk inside new ibook box ?

I just bought an Ibook 12 inch and it came with 2 disks only Disk 1 and Disk 2
are there more disks included with this package ?

  • How many hard drives do I use

    Hey Gang,
I have 2 internal hard drives. I read a post recently that mentioned something about having your app, samples/loops, and songs on different hard drives. Is this because of all the reading that must be done when the song is playing? I have gotten 'CoreAudio Overload'? while playing some songs.
I know I can freeze, bounce, etc. tracks and all that but I am more curious as to the fastest way to move data when it's required.
Should I consider an external Firewire HD? What's with the desktop RAID? Better than a reg HD?
    Thanks,
    Dave
Power Mac G5 DP 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   4 GB RAM Logic Pro 7.2

Here are a bunch of tips for getting the most out of your EXS24
FOR SMALLER CPU (G4) WITH MORE RAMS (2-4GB) try this:
Open EXS24, go to options>virtual memory
for Disk Drive Speed select "Slow"
for Hard Disk Rec. Activity select "Extensive"
    Then Apply
Doing this will release pressure from the hard disk and the CPU when you are loading samples.
It also release pressure from the HD/CPU when you are recording EXS24 or playing back sounds through EXS24.
FOR BIGGER CPU (G5) WITH LESS RAMS (1-2GB)
Open EXS24, go to options>virtual memory
for Disk Drive Speed select "Fast"
for Hard Disk Rec. Activity select "Less"
    Then Apply
Doing this will release pressure from the RAMS when you are loading samples.
It also release pressure from the RAMS when you are recording EXS24 or playing back sounds through EXS24.
MOVING SAMPLER FOLDERS TO EXTERNAL OR ANOTHER DISK :
Move all your samples to which ever other disk you want (external or another internal)
Then from the moved samples folder(s) create an ALIAS,
move that alias back to the original place and rename it so that it doesn't have alias at the end.
    example:
( Hip Hop kit.alias --> hip hop kit)
After this, make sure you run PROJECT MANAGER to scan the new location so that it doesn't force itself to load each time you try to launch EXS24
p.s.: make sure you don't move the samplers, the samplers are the EXS24 files with .exs at the end
this files are only small in size and logic requires it to be in the the sampler folder under logic folder
