How many images can LR4 catalog hold?

I have been using Lightroom since version 1, it is my main editing software. LR4 is brilliant, however I it seems to run much slower then LR3 especially in the print module. I'm thinking this maybe due to the size of my catalog. How many images can a catelog hold?
Many thanks
RP

I have 70,000 RAW images arranged in directories by year/day.  The only thing slow about it is during catalog backup. When first starting LR it takes a couple of minutes to enumerate the dates with photo counts, but that occurs in the background.  I detect no database related slowness while editing or performing random accesses and searches.  I have seen no difference in the above after having upgraded to V4.
The only slowness that I find annoying has nothing to do with the database.  It is after a certain number of spot removals of varying sizes. The larger and/or more varied the spot size tends to accelerate this.  At some point it starts disk thrashing and becomes impossible to work with (I have to back up to a history step when it was running OK, which can take several minutes).  When this occurs the task manager shows a high rate of page faults, meaning it is swapping out stuff to disk (even though I have plenty of unused ram).  This suggests a problem with the compiler, but that is just an wild educated guess.

  • How many contacts can the iPhone hold....now?

This question was asked back in 2008 and has been archived, however I'd like to revisit this issue.
What I'd like to know, is this:
How many contacts can the iPhone hold before it effects performance?
I have a iPhone user with an MS Exchange email account on the phone, Calendar and Contact sync is turned on. The problem is, the user has 10,000 contacts.
The contacts synchronized to the iphone, however, when writing emails or doing any task that accesses the contacts database (i.e. auto-completion of names), There is a good 35 to 40 second lag before you can enter the second letter of a name on the keyboard. I can only assume that this is due to the pure insanity of having 10,000 contacts on a mobile device... The search takes too long. Although it did work just fine on the blackberry (a lessor device ).
Can anyone tell me if there is a limit on how many contacts one can successfully store on an iPhone without running into the "lag" issue?
    Thanks in advance.

What is the overall size of all these songs?
This will determine how many songs the iPhone can hold.
The actual capacity of an 8GB iPhone is around 7.3 GB - OS X alone takes up approximately 500MB.
You should leave some free space available on the iPhone for general operating purposes and if you access any email accounts and for Safari cache purposes, etc.
So you have around 7GB available - as long as the overall size of all 9400 songs isn't greater than 7GB or so, you are covered.

Did you have anything specific in mind (version, hardware, etc...)? I assume you mean load and not hold?

  • How many characters can a String hold?

How many characters can a string hold, and can i give the value of a JTextArea to a string? Thanks -

well, you could try it, it should only take a few lines of code to see how large a String can get.
I think a String can be larger than the text of a JTextArea, not sure though.

  • How many Gigabytes can Mail folders hold?

Outlook can hold a total of 20 GB of emails. How many GB of emails can I have stored in my Inbox and Sent items on my computer? Can someone quote a link to a support doc that confirms same?
    Thanks

    Johnny,
The only thing written that I know of, is for individual mailboxes, and for 10.4 and later is 2 GB as outlined at:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1895
Basically I was the person who proved to Apple that overstuffing actually took place -- that was back in 2004, and OS 10.2, and 10.3.
When and if any Inbox or Sent even starts to approach 2 GB, I create new On My Mac mailboxes for the oldest date ranges in that mailbox, and move the messages to new mailbox. All the messages are still within reach of the Search. I have over 100,000 messages spread across many mailboxes.

  • How many songs can my itunes hold?

Hi. I am wondering if any one knows how much music itunes holds?
I have 192 MB SDRAM of memory?
Can you put too much music on your imac?
    Thanks

    Hi,
How much music you can have in iTunes depends on how much disk space you have.
When your library is too large for your Mac you can always buy an external drive and move the Library:

  • How many images can QT handle in an image sequence?

I want to make an image sequence of 6000 jpg-files. I've got an OSStatus error -8969.
    Whats wrong?
mayby 6000 files are a bit to much? does anybody has experiences with handling many files? I've got  hundreds of maps with 14000 files. I want them all as image sequences. What's the best solution?

Ten years ago I tested and used 67,000 files in a sequence and it imported into QuickTime in under 4 minutes.
That error code mentions a bad codec. Are you sure all your files are .jpg? No RAW images mixed in?

  • How many pages can Pages actually hold?

I'm starting to feel a bit nervous about this. Does anybody know?

You are right, and thanks for the welcome! I just picked up a canon mp530 multifunction printer and just before that came the imac 24", and I got a little ahead of myself, trying to run before I can walk. I have figured out the issue of duplex printing (had to do with clicking the correct stapling side in duplex printing section of print command).
Now all I need to do is spend the time to learn what I can do with the Pages Brochure template on a mac computer. slowly....slowly....
Off the topic of printing, do you know if it is possible to have a different column order when going back and forth between send and recieve in Outlook on imac? It seems that the columns cannot be altered between the two....

  • Offline updates mechanism: how many times can you use it before corrupting the image(wim)?

    Hi,
As title mentions: "how many times can you use sccm 2012 offline updates for the wim file before corrupting the image(wim)"?
    J.
    Jan Hoedt

In my experience the offline servicing feature is only OK and too unreliable for production.
