How many installations allowed on same "machine" if hard drive is replaced?

I recently had to reinstall my Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Standard on my same laptop when I replaced a bad hard drive. Now I find out I have  to replace the hard drive yet again (freezes up, tech guy thinks its been knocked around too much). I've googled around a bit and have read that I can install my (limited, student licensing?) Adobe software on two "machines". What is meant by machine? If it's the same computer, is it the same machine if I have to put a new hard drive in it? In other words, will I be able to install this a third time on the same computer if I've done so twice on two different hard drives?

What you should do is contact Adobe Support using chat and ask them to reset your activations.  That way you have a fresh slate of two waiting for you to use.
The limit of two machines is a continuous limit, not a one time limit, meaning as you change machines you can move your license as needed.  Normally you would deactivate an installation (by selecting Help -> Deactivate), but when a machine dies you lose the ability to deactivate.  Adobe support can take care of that by resetting the activations.
For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...

  • About how many CDs can I put on my hard drive before it effects the performance of me iMac/

About how many CDs can I put on my hard drive before they effect the performance of my imac?

Well, it depends on how much content is on the CD. You should have, at a minimum 10 - 15 GB of empty hard drive space at all times - more is much better. I do a fair amount of video/graphics editing and in order to render and burn properly, I need at least as much empty hard drive space as I have files in my current project, which usually means at least 150 GB or more. So, to be safe, my goal is to have a minimum of 250 GB empty space at all times - the OS will thank you if it has more room to work with.
So, add up what you want to put there and keep watching your hard drive space diiminish - it's best to have space hogging files on an external hard drive to keep your internal working well.

  • How many installations allowed?

How many different Macs can I install a single-user version of iWork on? I have a laptop and desktop, both of which belong to me. Can I install the same single-user version on both, or do I need the family license?

Bummer. I know for Aperture, you can install the same copy onto multiple computers, though you can only use one at a time if they are on the same network. Is this same for iWork or is it really one installation per copy?

  • I want to replace the hard drive on my IMac but want to know how to transfer from the time machine external hard drive to the replacement drive?

I have reached capacity on my IMac hard drive.   It is a 250 GB drive.   I have an external drive backing up using the time machine utility.  My question is once I replace the HD on the IMac, how do I load the new drive with the back up from the external drive?

    So many possibilities.
I am not an expert, but I have learned this much is doable:
Buy an external enclosure to re-use you old drive.
Buy a new external drive at least as large as as your intended new internal drive.  Make it self-powered.
Download CarbonCopyClone (free download, relatively small).
Make a CCC clone of the original disk on the new external disk
Install the original disk in the external enclosure.
Install the new disk in the main system.
Boot from that new external drive that has the carbon copy clone.  CCC will be installed on it and it will be bootable.
Use CCC on the external to directly clone back to new drive you install in the main system (the "bootable" flag will copy).
NOTE THAT AT NO TIME IS YOUR ORIGINAL DISK BEING OVERWRITTEN IN THIS PROCESS.  YOU CAN ALWAYS GO BACK AND REINSTALL IT.
Step 1 makes your old disk resuable as a spare copy for "anything".
Step 2 gives you something to use as CCC for after the recovery process.
Step 3 gets the software needed for cloning
Step 4 makes a bootable saved copy of your current system
Step 5 shifts your old disk to a usable place
Step 6 positions your new disk
Step 7 boots your existing install of OSX (just from a different drive)
Step 8 puts your original install on your new disk.
Now you have a bootable larger hard drive, and a bootable copy on a drive large enough to save all you can store on your new internal drive.  And you have your old disk to use for "anything".
Now you have TM backup in one place, and CCC backup in another.
Two backups is better than one, and one of your backups is bootable in case of system failure.

  • HT3275 Unable to backup using Time Machine after hard drive was replaced

I recently had my hard drive fail and I had the hard drive replaced. I restored everything from my Time Capsule without a problem. Now when I go to backup with the Time Machine, it stalls. It states it is "backing up: 12.2MB of 227GB" for the past four hours. I have attempted to restart the backup and have had the same thing happen. Any suggestions? Thanks!

If you have restored the backup, did you correctly inherit the old backup when you setup TM again??
See Pondini on inheriting backups. B5 and B6
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
    Install the widget.. A1
Do a full reset of TM.. A4
Do a verify of the disk and the backup.. A5.
I strongly recommend you simply start over.. this happens with TM sometimes.
Archive off the old backups if you still want to keep them.. no bad idea in case there is something still to transfer.
In the airport utility erase the hard disk of the TC.. and then start again.
Make sure you do at least the first backup by ethernet as it is many times faster than wireless.

  • How do I restore my data after my hard drive was replaced?

The hard drive in my iMac failed after I upgraded to Mountain Lion last week. The drive has been replaced and I'd like to restore files from my Time Capsule, if this is possible. However, when I enter Time Machine, there is a long wait while a dialogue box says "Connecting to backup volume" and then, when it becomes available, there are no previous dates before today listed and I can't move backwards, as I've done previously. I know that backups exist because I've used Time Machine before to restore files I've worked on to previous versions - and the capsule is still telling me that it's very nearly full of data. Is there a way to restore to a new hard drive, or is that asking too much of Time Machine? Please forgive my ignorance. I'm worried that I've lost a LOT of irreplaceable files.

Hi again. Okay, so I'm a little embarrassed because I just needed to wait and have faith. I'll leave this here for anyone who is panicking like I was today.
Essentially, I had to allow Time Machine to install a new back-up on the Time Capsule. I resisted this for a while and thought I'd made a mistake in allowing it when it had to discard an old back-up to fit the new one onto the machine. At this point, I was worried that I was losing a valuable older back-up in place of one of an empty-ish drive. But, once this back-up had completed, I was finally able to travel backwards and see the contents of my previous hard drive. I've currently restored my desktop and some personal files and tomorrow I'm going to go for the big targets, like my iTunes library.
    Thanks, Apple.

  • How to re-activate Photoshop CS2 after my hard drive was replaced

Help! My hard drive had to be replaced, and now my computer will not allow me to use my Photoshop CS2. I purchased this years ago, and have all of the verification codes. I have several things I am working on that I can't finish until I get it reactivated. Help!!

Please do a forum search on "activate cs2".  It has been discussed ad nauseam here.
Short answer:  Adobe has taken down the CS2 activation servers.  For legitimate licensees of CS2, it has posted a special version of CS2 that requires no activation but does require a new serial number, free to legitimate owners of CS2.

  • How Many Installs Allowed/ How To Apply to 3 different Macs?

Since we are no longer dealing with a disc, can you install the new Lion upgrade on 3 different Macs, purchasing only one for the $29.00, or do you have to buy Lion for each individual computer?  If you can install onto other Macs with one purchase, how do you install on each individual Mac?  Thanks for any advice

You are allooweed up to 5 Macs.
However beware as the installer self distructs on use so you have to clone it *before* you upgrade.
Simply Download from the Applestore and copy the installer to your two other Mac *then* run it.
Make sure you do all the pre-installation checks, upgrades, compatibility checks and backups before you upgrade.

    Shawn

  • How do I undo a Time Machine External Hard Drive?

    Hello,
I have an old external that was the time machine for an iMac I no longer have.  I am deleting all the data from the drive and would like it to be just a regular external once again.  Everytime I plug it into my new mac it shows up as time machine.  What can I do??

First Turn off Time Machine on your present Mac Then connect the drive and open Disk Utility. select the partition on that external and go to the Partition tab and select One Partition from the Partition Layout drop down. Type in a Name and select Mac Extended (Journaled) as the format and then click the Options button at the bottom of the partition layout area and make sure it is GUID. Close that options window and click Apply.

  • IPhoto backups won;t appear in Time Machine after hard drive was replaced

Please help me with this question. Not sure I posted it in the right thread to start with:

    Hi Nidan,
Thanks for digging out the support article!
Sadly it didn't help me either.
Indeed, as Murphy may have it, I think several things might have gone wrong at the same time for me.
    My Setup:
Mac Mini called "chief" with 10.5.2, two WD MyBook 1TB drives connected via FW and mirrored with RAID-1.
Mac Book Pro called "tiff" with 10.5.2, connects to mini via ethernet and AFP for Time Machine.
Both machines have been backing up since November and I have been successfully recovering files on both machines as needed.
    Until now.
    What has happened:
First, one of the MyBooks died, was sent in for repairs and I received a replacement yesterday. The RAID rebuild is still running (takes about 30 hours for 1TB). Even so, the file system is visible, can be mounted etc.
Today I installed Leopard on a third firewire disk, connected to the mac book pro (for testing). I called this system "leopard-test" and told it to back up also, assuming I would get a "leopard-test" sparse bundle. Sadly this attempt crashed so I turned off time machine on the test system.
Now I'm using the original Mac Book Pro system (tiff) and the time machine preferences still point to the Mac Mini disk, still report the oldest backup as being in November 2007 but when I try to recover a file, no history is shown at all.
Indeed, time machine isn't even mounting the backup image any more.
I can manually mount the image and all of the archives back to November seem to be there... it's just that time machine doesn't seem to recognise the image any more.
Any help greatly appreciated! (I REALLY don't want to lose the stuff I've been doing lately! Since I can get at the files manually, I'm thinking of renaming the original archive and starting a new one - at least then I know the old data won't be corrupted (further?))
    Any help greatly appreciated!!!

  • How many installations of Logic 9 are allowed?

How many installations of logic 9 are allowed?  I have it running on two macs and am considering a third.  Of course I only use one at a time.  Do I need to uninstall one?  I don't believe I ever registered the current installations with online registration....  How does all this work?

Yes.. the code was present in all versions of 8 and 9 up to 9.1.6 when it was removed/disabled...
Once you update LP9 to 9.1.6, 9.1.7 or 9.1.8 then that network check code is no longer functional.
LPX can be installed and run on as many Macs as you use/own.... using your Apple ID that you initally used to purchase it...without any limitations.
(Note: The App Store T&Cs determine this type of use is fine so long as you are using LPX for Private/personal use and not for example.. in a public studio... in which case you should purchase a multi user license...)
I often run LPX (and LP 9.1.8 for that matter)  on several Macs here when testing stuff... at the same time without any problems...

If possible, I would suggest that you upgrade to the latest release: 11.2.0.2.0. It has many bugfixes and enhancements.
There is no limit on the number of optionals per query. I suspect that the use of the same new variables (?avgrec and ?maxrec) in the parallel optional clauses is the reason you are seeing the error in this particular case. If you use different variable names does the error go away? If needed, you can use a coalesce in the outer SQL SELECT to get the same behavior as before (e.g. COALESCE(avgrec1, avgrec2) as avgrec).
    Thanks,
    Matt

  • How many installs do I get with a Creative Suite License

How many installs do I get with a Creative Suite License and if more than one can I put a copy on MAC and Windows?

    Hi Isendusersup,
You can install software on up to two computers. These two computers can be Windows, Mac OS, depends on the Platform for which you bought the product (Creative Suites License ). For Creative Cloud subscription, it can be any two platforms.
If you install on a third computer, it will request you to de-activate on the other two computers.  You can then reactivate one of the previous two computers, and use Creative Suite license or Creative Cloud apps on it.
For Creative Suite - To deactivate from preinstalled machine, Open any Adobe CS application > Help Menu > Deactivate.
For Creative Cloud - To deactivate from preinstalled machine, Open any Adobe CC application > Help Menu > Sign out.
Let us know if you need more assistance.
    Thanks!
    Eshant
