How many instances of Windows can BootCamp handle?

Hi, i have an early 2008 Mac Pro. I have OSX 10.6 Snow lepard, with Windows XP 32 bit Pro already installed via BootCamp on a seperate HD. I want to know if I can install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on a third HD using BootCamp and then select which operating system I want to run, Snow Lepard, XP pro or Windows 7
via bootcamp?

Thanks for all the replies.
As for me wanting to have the ability to run XP, my situation is, I am visually disabled, and the task of a complete reinstall of software, datafiles and Windows 7 is quite time consuming.
I was planning to install Windows 7 initially and then reinstall data and software when it was convenient. That way, I would have XP to fall back on if I needed to do something I was unable to in Windows 7.
From your reply, I gather I can do this, however, using the Microsoft boot manager is not a realistic option for me. Being blind, I use text to speech software and the computer only speaks when the operating system has booted up. I believe when you are talking about the Windows boot manager, you are referring when the PC first starts to boot one would press the F8 key and the boot manager comes up. At this point of a Windows boot, my text to speech software has not yet loaded, so it would be rather difficult and more likely impossible for me to select which operating system I wanted.
I guess I am just going to have to bite the bullet and do a install of Windows 7 and software, then pickup a SATA enclosure for the XP drive and grab my data that way.
Thanks, Sam

  • How many instances of EXS24 can you fit into one session?

    Hey all,
Well, it seems like I finally have a project where I'm starting to max out my new Intel iMac. Everything was working fine until I added my 22nd VI, and then I started getting all sorts of CPU overload errors. All of my instances are EXS24, and all the samples are divided up between VSL's Opus 1 & 2 and some M-Audio strings and brass samples I got awhile back. I'm using VSL's Performance Tool on a few of the VSL tracks, but not all of them, and I don't know how that effects CPU performance.
I was really hoping to squeeze 30 VI tracks into the sequence, because I still need to add a trumpet section, with all their articulations. Therefore, I'm going to try tweaking some settings to get a few more tracks in.
So, my question is, given my set-up, what's a reasonable number of EXS24 instances? Should I plan on limiting my arrangements to around 20 instances of EXS24, or have most of you tweaked your systems to the point where you can usually get more than that?
    Thanks!
    Kevin
P.S., can RAM usage effect the CPU in anyway so as to produce a CPU overload? When looking at my System Performance monitor, I can't see a CPU spike right before I get the errors, but I have noticed that the Activity Monitor program tells me that I only have 13.4 MB left out of my 1GB of RAM.
P.P.S. -- Also, I should mention that none of my tracks have effects plug-ins yet, except for the Gain plug-in on the M-Audio tracks, since their samples are so much softer than VSL's.

I was reading your thread and wanted to know what you
thought about the different VSL inst that are out
there to buy. I see that you have a little of
everything. Is there a pack that works best?
So far I'm really enjoying the Opus 1 & 2 collection! Even though the Opus libraries are supposed to be an "entry level" library of sorts, it's amazing how realistic-sounding you can get your arrangements. I'm definitely going to save up and get the full-blown library in time, but for now I'm really happy with Opus 1 & 2.
The thing I like about them is the amount of variety you get for the price. For example, for a little over $1000 you could buy just one section of the big library, like Brass I, but for the same amount of money, you can buy both Opus 1 & 2, and have a decent collection of brass instruments with the main articulations you need, like sustain, staccato, sfz, flutter, etc., plus you get the same thing with violin sections, viola sections, etc., as well as a lot of solo instruments.
It's a really nice collection. Of course, paying $1000 for just a brass library is going to give you a ton of brass sounds that you don't get with the Opus collection, but for an affordable library with a lot of really usable sounds that you need for stuff like television scoring, and whatnot, it's great.

  • How many Instances can I install on one machine?

    Hi Folks,
Do you know how many oracle instances I can install on my Win OS machine.
I already have three different instances. Typically how many instances Oracle recommends to setup in one machine to ensure performance improvement?
I use Oracle 9 and oracle10g both. In fact, Oracle9 in Solaris and oracle10g on win.
    Regards,
    Amir

In general, it recommends one instance per server
in a production environment, for a variety of
    reasons (maintainability, backup/recovery, easier to
tune, better use of resources). If you have 100 productives databases, it is very probable that you won't be able to have one server per database.
Again, it depends on your number of users, processors and ram... But if you 16G ram and 16 processors, you should well be able to able to have 20 databases with not too much activity.
The number of 20 here means truely nothing. I admit. But recommending one instance per server is not ok.
Many applications require to have a separate database. It is the double administration necessary, but it is better than the troubles generated when 2 software vendors are sharing the same db.
For development, I have some systems with over 50 instances running with 16g ram and 8 cpus.

  • EastWest Symphonic, LA Scoring Strings - How many instances can you run?

Hi - After investing in a new quod core recently and been really depressed by the performance I'm getting I wondered whether users of EW Symphonic Orchestra and/or LA Scoring Strings, Vienna Symphonic etc... could share with me how many instances they can load and run in a mix.

    Hi,
    i understand your frustration
Below is a list of the things I had do to to make my system usable:
    1. Turn Airport & BlueTooth : OFF
    2. Apple System Preferences:
Energy Saver: Set Computer and Hard Drive to: Never Sleep,
Software Updates: Check for update: Uncheck
    3. Logic Preferences, Audio , Devices:
    I/O Buffer Size 512
    Software Monitoring: OFF
    Process Buffer Range: Large
Audio Units Manager: Uncheck all AU plugins not being used!
    4. Logic Preferences, Audio, General:
    Track Mute/solo: CPU-saving(Slow Response)
    Sample Accurate Automation : OFF
    Plug-In Delay Compensation: OFF
    5. Assign ALL tracks thru Buss's, See Link below
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3161
    6. Keep a muted audio track in the arrange page and have it selected
LOgic uses additional CPU power if a midi track is selected
    7. Keep at least 50gb or more of free space on the hard drive
    8. Run the freeware program Mac Janitor
    9. Do not run any other programs during the Logic Session. Close all programs not being used.
    10. VERY IMPORTANT! Restart computer to flush ram. Do this each and every time you reload your Logic Sequence.

  • How do I install windows using BootCamp without cd drive fot the new MBP?

I need some softwares for my work (modelsim, altera, ltspices etc) but some of them only supports windows.
New MBP doesnt seem to have a cd driver.
How do I install windows using bootcamp without cd drivers?

You can use a USB thumbdrive to do this, assuming you have access to a windows machine to format the usb stick.
I installed Win7 on my MB Air (2011), which of course lacks a DVD drive altogether, using this technique.
Basically, you download a tool called rEFIt to your macbook. ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/refit/files/rEFIt/0.14/rEFIt-0.14.dmg/download ) When this is installed, it gives you a boot selector menu when you boot the Macbook ('Do you want to boot to MacOS or to the USB drive?')
Then you download and run an Apple tool called Boot Camp Assistant, which allows you to partition your HD for the two operating systems to share; it also pulls down all the windows drivers you need.
Then prep the USB thumbdrive on a windows machine to be a Win7 installer disk. You'll want a drive in the 4gb+ range I think. You have to set up the thumbdrive to be bootable (lots of tools for that available), and then copy all the windows installation files over to it.
Put the thumbdrive in the macbook and boot holding down the option key.
Choose the rEFIt icon on boot, then choose to boot from the thumbdrive, then format your new windows partition to something Win7 can handle, and install windows.
On my machine I followed a slightly more involved process and wiped out MacOS entirely. I would have kept it on a small partition if I'd had a bigger hard drive.
If you need super detailed instructions, CNET has some here:

Tech-Recipes has some similar instructions here:
    http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/9136/macbook-air-install-windows-7-with-boot-camp -without-an-external-dvd-drive/
If you have any issues after trying this, ping me and I may have solved them when I went through the same process.

  • How many licence for Windows Server 2012R2 in hyper-v cluster base on free Hyper-V Server 2012R2

    Hi
I build cluster consist 4 nodes (2 procesors, 4 core per procesor=8 virtual processors per node). I installed free Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 on each node and created cluster.
I've got one Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard. How many VMs (with Windows Server 2012 R2 Standrard as OS) can I run on this cluster using this DVD? 1, 2 or none?
    Thank you in advance
    Tomasz
    Kind Regards Tomasz

    The detail here is this:
You are asking about the 'virtual instance granting' license.
    - this only applies if Windows Server is installed on the bare metal with the Hyper-V Role added. (regardless of the edition)
    - this only applies to licensing, it does not limit the number of VMs that you can run.
    - If there is a cluster, all nodes should be the same edition to remove any licensing ambiguity.
This is strictly OS licensing for the VMs and has absolutely nothing to do with how many VMs you can run:
Most likely your hardware will run out of physical resources before you reach the maximums outlined here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj680093.aspx
If you have a cluster - there can be a maximum of 8,000 running VMs
If you have individual Hyper-V Servers there can be a maximum of 1,024 running VMs
Do the math - you would need a minimum of ~8 cluster nodes to touch that 8,000 number.  But as you add nodes, you don't add HA VM capacity.  But you can run a combination of HA and non-HA VMs up to a the maximum of 1,024 running VMs per node.
In other words, mix and match if you want to push the boundary.

  • How many instance are running ?

    Dear Friends ,
how do i figure out how many instance are running on database? OR , How many database are running in a server ? Is it possible to find out from 'os' or 'database' level ?
Waiting for ur kind reply ... ...

    Hi,
On unix/linux use: ps -fea|grep pmon
This will show all pmon process running (Each one is an Instance and you will see the name of the Instance here too), you can also check on /etc/oratab all the oracle databases in the server.
On Windows go to Control Panel, Administration, Services and take a look on the Oracle services.

  • How to findout how many  instances are available in one server

how many instances are available in one server

You can also check (in Unix) /etc/oratab to list all Oracle instances, it should be updated. That's not so true...
    example:
ps -aef | grep pmon | grep -v grep
    oracle   14867     1  0 Jul29 ?        00:00:00 ora_pmon_TEST9I
    oracle   15024     1  0 12:10 ?        00:00:00 ora_pmon_SECOND9I
    oracle   15172     1  0 12:11 ?        00:00:00 ora_pmon_THIRD9I
    cat /etc/oratab

  • ASA 5510 - how many concurrent VOIP calls can pass through?

    Hi all,
I wonder how many concurrent VOIP calls can handle Cisco ASA 5510, any idea?
    Gegham

    hi Gegham,
Basically what the values of  50,000 and 130000  connections indicate  are lab values  tested with 80% TCP and 20% udp  traffic. (according to table a-2 in the doc below)
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa72/configuration/guide/specs.html#wp1170941
RTP  is udp traffic but in case of an asa and considering a customer  scenario what happens is...
    1 voip call =  1 control connection (h323,sip,sccp)    +   2 or 4 rtp connections
-so a call will in total  easily consume  5  or more  connections depending on control connections you have set up .
-also this number differs depending on if the call is  voice only or video.
So to  simply answer your  questions...
1>the number of connections that a call  consumes depends on the above factors.
2>Also there is no hard number on the  number of calls an asa can handle because this depends on the controls  you use ...including nat and inspections.
    Thanks,
    Karthik

  • How many instances does EM support

    dear experts,
I am using EMCTL and it opens one of my database instances ie. oracle2. but what if I want to open anthoer database instance? I tried to open another database instance, but my first instance was logged out. kindly tell me how many instances can simultaneously be opened?

You can setup grid control for either RAC or single instance databases. Setting up a grid control is not something that can be detailed in a single post, so I suggest you to refer to this manual -->

Is there a restriction on how many simultaneous wireless iPads can watch movies from one iTunes account or AppleTV generation 2 or later?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I find it hard to believe that this information isn't clearly available somewhere, but it isn't and I don't think I've seen anyone here who is 100% sure. However, I believe you can have up to 10 associated devices, which include authorised computers (of which you can have up to 5), I suspect the Apple TV might become a temporary associated device while it's in use, but I'm not entirely sure myself.
