How Many "Levels of Undo" With My iMac?

Since 1999, FCP has has defaulted to 10 Levels of Undo, but since then even the most basic current entry model now has many times the performance of the fastest computers of that time.
Would using the maximum of 99 with my iMac impact on the performance in any significant way and if so, how?
What are the likely disadvantages?
If 99 is over the top, what would you suggest as a maximum?

To me, it's really a workflow thingie, rather than something to remember. I'll do an assembly sequence of the stuff I want to use, then duplicate that and call it cut 1, and edit a version. If that passes muster as a base layer or whatever, I'll duplicate that, call it cut 2 and do the next layer of refinement or changes requested by client-- or for whatever reason works for the project. If I want to experiment with something, I'll create a dupe of THAT, call it 2A or whatever and throw down on it. If it's good I just keep going-- if I want to abandon it, I just go back to cut 2. The trick is to freeze each step of the process at a place that's good.
If you've got to do 99 undos to get back to where you like the cut, you are wasting HUGE amounts of time.

    Hi Mrfrodo,
There isn't a set number, you purchase the number you would need based on the size of your organization.

  • Typically, How many back and forths with Creative Support before they acknowledge your questi

Typically, how many times does one have to go back and forth with Creative Support before they acknowledge an issue or question?
    This is ridiculous.
I'm on the forth reply now.
All I want to know is if there is a?64-bit ASIO driver for the X-Fi Titanium on 64-bit Vista?
    They will not answer me.
All of my testing indicates that there is not a 64-bit ASIO driver for Vista, but they will not confirm or deny.

dRe: Typically, How many back and forths with Creative Support before they acknowledge your question?U I don't know what Creative would have written if you asked SUpport these days?
I assume, they lied when they wrote this. There are several walkarounds for XFI cards
with beta drivers. In releas drivers they exclude the ASIOx64, but in beta it's included!
Creative has a very awkward marketing strategy. This was with Vista not having EAX on Audigy as
the said it is impossible. The newer X-FI was able to?do it and after a few weeks the Audigy also could-
after paying for it. The same with DolbyDigital Li've... and now with x64 ASIO. They reduce features
in cases the cheaper card had same possibilities as the more expensi've EMUs...
Shame on them. I?baught a creative Card for the 4th time (SB, SB AWE32,Audigy2, and now Titanium).
I'm going to thinking about selling it...

  • How many registration keys come with the new Final Cut Studio

Hi I'm thinking of buying the new final cut studio and am trying to find out how many registration keys come with the box. I have 2 others in the family that would use it on their comps as well, and my friend had gotten the previous version of final cut studio 2 (final cut pro 6) and said it came with 3 keys inside, which would be great for me. So I'm just making sure that's true. Thanks.
Also you can bring final cut pro 6 files from another computer onto a computer with final cut pro 7 and still work on them right?

    Hello Gibbs,
    Welcome to the forum.
    Re: your question.
Your friend is a pathological lier (or delusional - sometimes it's hard to tell the difference).
FCP is licensed for one laptop and one desktop as long as:
    1. Both machines are owned by YOU (your inlaws don't count as you)
    and
    2. They are not used at the same time.
If your family wants FCS, time for them to purchase their own copies. (Apple has dropped the price so low that even Junior High School students can afford their own copies now.)
Yes, FCP6 files will open without issue on FCP7. The reverse is not true.
    Have fun.

  • How many Apple loops preinstalled with Garageband 09?

Straightforward question: how many loops are included with Garageband 09? I can find hardly any (eg 4 drum loops, all cymbals) and it makes me wonder if something's missing, or if that is indeed all that is provided with the standard install of Garageband.
    Thanks.

Well, obviously there wasn't much chance it would work, but no harm trying.
I did what you suggested - deleted all the files in the Receipts folder that start with GarageBand (after backing them up first) and tried to reinstall Garageband from the MacBook software DVD, but no joy - everything is still greyed out apart from the help files.
So I dropped GarageBandExtraContent.pkg onto FileJuicer and that kept FileJuicer busy for a good 15 minutes. In the end it extracted a gigabyte of stuff from that 5.4Mb file, including a lot of AIFF and WAV files, though no CAF files, oddly enough. The WAV files mostly have cryptic names like 35m2aF6.wav (which turns out to be a string section, Full Strings Lite, playing a high C I think).
However, I can't find any AIFF or WAV files with a date later than 2005. This makes me think I probably do have the full set of Apple Loops and that the set hasn't changed for a while. If anyone has the default install of Garageband 09 and wants to compare file lists, that might be a good idea...

  • How many iPods can sync with One iTunes account?

How many iPods can one sync with an iTunes account ? I have searched the net and there are many different posts but none conclusive. So was wondering if anyone here had a clear idea on that.
    Thanks in advance,
    -TRS

But how many ipod can I sync with only one iunes store account?
    None.
iPod don't sync with an iTunes account.
iPods sync with iTunes on a computer.
You can have 5 computers authorized to play songs/movies from one iTunes account.
Each computer can have 5 iTunes accounts authorized.
An iPod can have music/movies from 5 different iTunes accounts.
Note that this only applies to iTunes purchases with DRM, which is movies, tv shows and older iTunes music. All music now purcahsed is DRM free.

  • How many phones are eligible with family plan update?

If my family plan is eligible for an upgrade, how many phones (without paying full retail price) can we get by extending out two year contract?
Right now I am the only one with a smart phone, but we plan to add two more so want to get three the newer nicer phones.

Hi joycean716. I'm excited to hear so many of your family lines are considering taking the leap into new phones. Brian68 is right, each individual line has a separate contract and upgrade date. To see when each of your lines is eligible for an upgrade, log into My Verizon at www.vzw.com/signin as the Account Owner and select "Get Upgrade Status" from the My Device section of the home page. You can even order your new phones while you're logged in there.

  • How to use a microphone with my iMac?

    Hi,
I recently purchased a headset to use in Ventrilo for communicating with my clients. I've plugged it into the line in and line out ports on the back. I can hear audio play just fine but when I select "Line In" as the input source in System Preferences, no sound is picked up.
From searching through Google, I'm lead to believe that the input port on the back of the iMac is expecting a stronger signal, such as the one generating by the output of most audio generating devices and the microphone's signal is too faint. Is that correct?
I see various $80+ Mac-compatible USB headsets out there but I just can't justify spending that much money on this project. If a regular headset won't work with the line in port, can anyone out there recommend a cheap headset that will work with my iMac? I'm not looking for fantastic sound, just legible voice communication.

You're correct: the line in jack needs to be fed from a mixer or hi-fi equipment: the output from a microphone is much too low. You have two easy options: one is simply to use the built-in microphone - the quality is usually quite clear and good enough for this sort of use. Or you could get a USB headset such as this one.

Depends on how often they hit "reload".
If you have an on-line chat forum, people tend to hit reload every N seconds to see if there are new posts. 1 user = 200 hits/day. If your site show TV listings, people load your page only a couple of times a day because it doesn't change constantly. 1 user = 2 hits/day.
Estimate how many hits an average user does to each page. Then measure the speeds of your servlets. Estimate how often each servlet will be accessed -- or if your site is already on-line, get that info from logs. Simulate your expected web traffic.
If you use sessions and put lots of data in them, estimate the size of data you keep per user. That'll give you memory requirements.

  • How does my MacPro compare with new iMacs spec wise?

I'm thinking of upgrading to a new iMac, I have a MacPro that is about 5-yrs old. Just curious, how do the specs on my MacPro compare with the specs available on the new iMacs? Will I notice a big difference in performance, OR are the upgrade processors and graphics card only going to result in minor performance increases?
    Model Name:   Mac Pro
    Model Identifier:     MacPro1,1
    Processor Name:       Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed:      3 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores:        4
L2 Cache (per processor):     4 MB
    Memory:       3 GB
    Bus Speed:    1.33 GHz
    Thanks!

I *think* you'll see a speed increase. You'll have more ram to start with, a faster bus, a faster graphics card, (i think) and on top of all of that a nicer screen, you'll be able to sell the mac pro to offset the cost, a bigger hard drive(probably) a new warranty.....and on and on. See why I say it's not so cut and dried?

  • How many computers can sync with Apple TV at the same time?

I'm thinking of buying one of these things for my parents as a last-minute Christmas gift. They both have their own iMac, with their own choice of music/movies/photos/etc. If I get them this device and set it up in their living room, could they stream content from both computers to this?

    Eric wrote:
When you say "online" you mean bonjour, right?
So all I'd have to do for set up, is turn on the "share library" in their iTunes? Alright, sounds easy enough.
No, AppleTV's are set up in a specific manner.
You can sync with 1 iTunes library, and stream from several.
Synced material is seen under My Music, My Movies categories of the respective media types (Music/Movies/TV Shows/Podcasts), and if iTunes is running any compatible material that hasn't synced (copied to AppleTV in order to play if computer is off) can be streamed as needed.
Streaming libraries that don't sync are selected under a My Shared Music/Movies etc category, and stream as needed, but only one is selected at a time.
To set up a library to sync/stream, AppleTV announces itself across the network to itunes, and a 5 digit code appears on the connected TV which is then entered in iTunes on the machine which is being added to 'computers'. Quite simple really.
