How many LUNs

Folks,
I am seasoned in both RAC and ASM. I'm helping my team come up with a standard approach to LUN assignments and ASM disk group creation for Oracle 11.2. The Oracle documentation is quite simplistic and doesn't seem to cover things like mirror splits for restoration, etc....
My proposed ASM disk group and LUN assigments are as follows:
OCR: 1 LUN external redundancy (OCR can be mirrored by Oracle to another diskgroup) Size: 1GB
Vote: 1 LUN external redundancy (Vote disks can be mirrored by Oracle to another diskgroup) Size: 1GB
Data: 4 or more LUNs external redundancy Size: TBD
FRA: 4 or more LUNs external redundancy Size: Depends on Data LUN and backup retention.
Logs: 4 or more LUNs external redundancy(for online logs, and specifically to support shadow copy) Size: Depends on online log file size. Assume 1GB per log group, minimum of 5 groups x N RAC nodes.
I cannot agree with Oracle to put the OCR and Vote Disks in the Data disk group. That, in my opinion is simplistic and not well thought out by the documentation folks at Oracle.
Opinions welcome,

Hi Rich,
there are pro and cons to put OCR and Voting in the data diskgroup. However if you plan to do mirror splits of the database, then it is definitely better to have your own diskgroup for OCR and Voting. (You do not want to mirror split your voting as well).
However I would always put the OCR and Voting into the same diskgroup. (It does not make sense to use different diskgroups for OCR and Voting disks).
Furthermore if you would like to do mirror split, than I would advice a diskgroup per database. (But you definitly thought about that already)
Just one comment: Vote disks cannot be mirrored by Oracle to another diskgroup! Voting Disks can only be in one diskgroup.
So I would personally change the placement of OCR and Voting:
OCR + VOTE: 3 LUNs (to have triple voting disks, which will only work with normal redundancy diskgroup). Size Each: 1GB
- where you put you additional OCR copies is up to your liking...
FRA: also depends on the amount of flashback logs and flashback retention time, if you enabled flashback. Maybe you want to put a copy of the online redolog into the FRA as well.

  • How many luns does mac OSX support from a single target (array) is it 255??

How many luns does mac OSX support from a single target (array) is it 255?
For example, if using the Dual-channel 4Gb Fibre Channel PCI Express card?  Is it 255, 512 or higher?  I know it uses the ATTO driver, but I can't find any documentaiton about the upper limits of how many luns this HBA can address from a single target array on a SAN.  Thanks.

    Hi,
The card should be an ATTO 42ES whcih supports 255 LUNS per channel
Here's the info from the attached link
Consider the following Celerity FC host adapter guidelines:
    • ATTO 4-Gb and 8-Gb FC cards (PCI-X and PCIe only) are supported. • Latest HP-specific ATTO Celerity FC host adapter driver • Latest HP-specific ATTO Configuration Tool • A maximum of 256 targets per host adapter channel are supported. • A maximum of 255 logical unit numbers (LUNs) per host adapter channel are supported. • PowerPC- and Intel-based servers are supported.

  • How many LUNs does an Solaris Host can support ?

    Hi ,
Anyone can share, how many storage LUNs does an Solaris Host can support? There is any limits on this.?
    Regards
    Siva

It probably depends at least some on the type of HBAs, the driver, topology, and most likely other things as well. Instead of dealing with thousands of LUNs on the OS side, I would highly recommend you have your SAN team start provisioning meta devices instead, to cut down on the number of devices (if you are lucky enough to have a SAN team that is). My company allows me to be the EMC and Solaris engineer, and in return all they ask is that I only collect pay for one of the two....

  • How Many Times Can I Use The Same Serial Number For Adobe Creative Suite 4?

I have design standard and was told I can use the same serial number on multiple computers. How many time can I use it? And say I install it on the maximum number of computers, but get a new computer, can I uninstall it on one of the old computers and use it on the new one? And can I use the programs on both computers simultaneously or do I have to use them one at a time?

    Fred Tech wrote:
Broadly speaking, it depends on the type of license you have.
Specifically, if you have a single license then officially, you should only install it once on one computer.
Practically, (unless it has changed with CS4) you maybe able to install it on more then one computer, BUT can only run one instance of the software at a time. You can not run more then one instance of the software concurrently; i.e. you can't run Dreamweaver on Computer 1 and Photoshop on Computer 2. That would be two instances, and is not permitted.
This is my understanding. I am happy to be corrected if I am wrong
    Fred
    Sorry Fred you are wrong.
If you have a single license you can install it on as many computers as you like. you can only activate the suite on two computers at anyone time. Work and Home or as many of us do it Desktop and Laptop. You can not use the computers simultaneously. You only have 20 activation/deactivations so use them wisely. Student versions only have one activation. You can not break up the suite installs the suite is considered one application.

  • HT5622 How many family members, computers, iPods,iPad,IDs can you have on one iTunes account?

I'm just trying to sort out some iTunes I'd issues.  Does anyone know how many total iPad iPods can be used with one Apple ID?  Or how many apple  IDs your can have with one iTunes account? Or does each person need there own Apple ID or Apple account? Thanks

You can't have multiple IDs on one account, but you can use multiple IDs for different purposes on the same device.
Just use the one AppleID for iTunes and the AppStore so you can all share your music and app purchases. Then each person should have their own individual AppleID with associated iCloud account for mail, contacts, calendars, iMessage and FaceTime.
You don't have to use the same AppleID for all services.

  • Want to use Adobe forms departmentally.  How many users per license?

How many people can use Adobe Forms per license/how many computers can we download software to?

Adobe FormsCentral is a web-based app so there is nothing to download - you access from the web browser.
Each users who creates forms needs a license of FormsCentral. In a month or so you'll be able to by a team pack (5,10,25) at reduces prices for a larger group who wants to create forms.

  • How many calendars can you share with the same iCloud person?

OK Apple people, here is my concern:
I have several calendars in my iCal app.  I can share one (home) with my wife but for some reason, I am not able to add her to another calendar that I wish for her to  view/edit (work).  She does have an iCloud account.  The documentation on the Apple web site for iCloud states:  " You can share a calendar both publicly and privately with other people. Sharing gives you flexibility in managing calendars. For example, you could create a calendar for your child’s sports team and share it privately with just the coaches so they can edit it. You could also share it publicly with all the parents so they can view (but not change) it whenever they want."
Is there a limit to just how many calendars in the application that one one can send as suggested by the "a"?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

All my family devices are tied to one Apple ID.  We did that b/c we would consolidate our purchases by syncing via 1 Mac in the house.  So any device could purchase an app/music/whatever, then we would plug it into the main Mac and transfer the purchase to that and then plug in other devices and add to them.  Pain the rear!  I think my example of tedious process above is one reason for iCloud.  So, now with iCloud we should be able to purchase from any device and the other devices would have access without wires.   I thought the only way to tie them all together is if they are all under the same AppleID.  That is how iCloud knows they are related, right?  Makes sense to me.   However, on each device, we use their own @me/@mac email account to setup iCloud b/c each email is tied to that family member but under the master Apple ID for our family.  Each email account has their own contacts, emails, etc.  I thought that was the way to setup.  Shouldn’t this work?  Kind of separate but yet tied together via the 1 Apple ID.  Thoughts?

  • How many times can a team member install Creative Cloud for teams ?

How many times can a team member install Creative Cloud for teams ?
Is it possible for one team member to install it for example on a portable mac and a desktop pc at the same time?

From the Creative Cloud FAQ at https://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/faq.html under the Purchasing and getting started section:
On how many computers can I install the software I download from Creative Cloud?
You can install the desktop applications available in Creative Cloud on your primary computer and one backup computer, as long as they are not running at the same time. You will have access to both the Mac OS and Windows versions, so if you have a Mac at home and a PC at work, for instance, you can install your applications on both. See the product license agreements page for more information.

  • How many computers can you authorize with one serial number?

    Hey guys.
I'm thinking about buying a 2nd Mac, but I'm just curious how many total computers you have authorize Logic studio on at one time (my guess would be 3 but I hope more).
Please let me know if you can.
    Thanks,
    Nathan

I'll copy my post from the other thread:
I don't know for the others but in my retail package ((not upgrade) I found two serial numbers. Though I haven't got time yet to try the second serial number on my MacBook, my logic says that with two different serials I could run both macs simultaneously and be on the network. But, my logic fails so often so it's better to shut my mouth, install Logic on MacBook and come back here again.

So I can sync two iPods to my iTunes account and sync the same digital copy movies that come with some o' my DVDs to both ipods? Do movies make a difference really, DRM-Wise? Thanks in advance.

  • FCPX how many times can it install on the same computer?

From time to time I like to wipe the drives and start afresh or, whenever there is a new OS, I will perform a clean install. This entails wiping the drive and reloading all software. Most of the apps have 'de-authorize' function, this allows me to use the same licence number for the next re install.
Any idea how FCPX would install after say, four five drive refreshes? Can it understand that it is no longer resident on any machine?
Please note: I do understand how many machines I can install on at one time. This is not the same.

You can install FCPX as many time you wish
