How many of you rely on just 1 computer?

Is anyone here solely reliant on their MBP or do you have other computers. Usually i'm one who had at least two systems, usually a desktop & laptop back when i used windows. However when i got my first mac (12" 1.33GHz PB) i sold my laptop and kept the desktop which i never used as the PB gave me no problems whatsoever throughout its use.
I then upgraded last yr to a 15" and sold my desktop thinking my 15" was going to be as reliable as the 12" but alas this wasn't the case i had a lot of problems and a lot of downtime that in some cases i had to borrow my brothers HP laptop just to meet deadlines. Thats when i got fed up and sold the PB and got this MBP. However i was wondering if anyone knows where to get a farily used machine like a 12" PB or a good deal for a new one to use as my backup machine.
Plus it would be a collectors items since all rumors point to the fact that apple doesn't plan to release a 12" version of the MBP
Any ideas?

Never listen to the rumours. Steve jobs would sell his mum if he thought he could make a buck
Joke aside, there is no harm in having a back up machine if your budget allows you to do so. On the Apple website there is a section where they sell refurbished products. They can be anything from individual customer returns to ones used at schools and returned after 6 months or so. Of course they are all fully serviced and under the same Apple guarantee, depending on your luck they may not even have the slightest blemish or scratch.

  • How many of you rely only on the music from the cloud?

I recently setup an appoinment to have my HDD replace by Apple and while cleaning out before backing up I thought about all of my music, which by the way takes most of the space in my HDD.
How many of you just erased all of the music on their HDD's and rely solely on iTunes Match for music listening, and why?

I think you misunderstood the question. I ust wanna know how many people basicaly erased all of their music and now listen using their copy from the cloud, sort of like using iTunes Match on the iPhone. I was just tjinking about going all digital rather than having physical copy of all of my music so to speak.

No backup method is fail-proof, but Apple specifically recommends against using Match as a backup.  (Bold added by me.)

You should back up all data and information on your computer or device and any peripherals prior to using iTunes Match."

  • Is there a limit to how many ipods you can have on one computer?

We have 5 iPods between myself, my spouse and my kids. I manage all of our music, video and games from my iMac. I am planning to purchase the new 3G iPhone on Friday. Is there a limit to the number of devices that I can have on my iTunes account? I seem to remember getting some kind of message about 5 account authorizations when I first synced my most recently purchased iTouch. Are "accounts" related to the computer or the iPod devices?

The "five" limit is for +number of computers+ using an iTunes Store account. It has nothing to do with the number of iPods connected to a computer.
As far as I know, you can have as many iPods as you want connected to a single computer and one iTunes installation. There may be a computer limitation in how may iPods you can connect simultaneously, but there should not be a practical limit in how may iPods can be associated with your iTunes installation.

  • How many Shuffles can I register on one computer?

I'm planning on purchasing 7 shuffles for groomsmen gifts. I'd like to add the same playlist to each one.
Can I register this many shuffles - along with my own nano - on one computer?
    Thanks.

As said you prolly want to post this in iPod section, but to my knowledge I don't think there's a limit as to how many devices you can register to a computer's iTunes account.
There is, however, a limit (think 5) to the number of computers you can authenticate an iTunes account to. But that won't affect the scenario you mention.
    Congrats.... Cool gift idea btw.

  • Just installed ios 7 on my 4s, and I have two issues: 1) control centre: the music controls do not work, only the volume adjust slider works; 2) in mail, where do you find the setting to control how many messages you want your inbox to retain?

Same problem here on my 4s: Control center music controls do not work.
Since this thread has two issues, I'm going to start a new one with only the music control bug. Topic: iOS 7 Control Center Music Controls Not Working On iPhone 4s

  • I really think that Notes should tell you on it's home screen how many notes you have.

tonight i logged into iCloud on my PC laptop.  I could not find a note.  So i went to my iPhone 5s and i found my note using the simple search. And as soon as i tapped into it on my iPhone, it suddenly showed up on my laptop.
I really think that Notes should tell you on it's home screen (both on the iphone and on a computer of any kind) how many notes you have so you know if they are not syncing correctly, and if notes are being lost.
Also, there should be a way to download all the notes via any computer to a directory full of simple text files for the exact number of notes you have.
I have 42 notes.  then I should be able to download all 42 into their own separate text files.  Make the filename of the text file the first line of the Note, just like it shows up on the iDevice.
And finally, is there a character/size limit to the Note?
    Thank you!

  • Is there a limit to how many Podcasts you can post to iTunes

I've been trying to post our most recent podcast to iTunes, and I haven't been able to. I've checked everything over and over and tried to repost, and have not been able to. I'm wondering if iTunes has a limit to how many podcasts you can post. Currently there are 83 podcasts that we' ve put up to iTunes. Each one is about 5-6 MB in size.
Does anyone know if I've reached my max and need to remove old podcasts to make space for the new one?
    thanks. collintowne

Thanks for the info. You're right. I never thought about it. That's what the whole RSS feed is all about. Telling iTunes where to get the info it needs. So iTunes doesn't store the actual files. Got it!
I will try out that link you gave me. What I've been doing in the past to update my RSS/XML feed is just simply copy/paste the previous weeks info, update the new info, post it, and that's it. I never changed any of the information on the top part before you get to all the weekly posts. I did however for the first time attempt doing all of this on my Mac rather than use the PC that I have always done the Podcasts on and RSS feeds. So that must have caused a problem somewhere.

  • How many of you would purchase the new B.T. Keyboard if was iPhone compat?

Also, is the USB keyboard compatible? Let Apple know how many of you are interested here, someone will post the appropriate link I assume also.

I would not buy it. I want portability and if I have to carry
around a keyboard I might as well just bring my laptop.

  • Is there a limit to how many songs you can have on the offline mode?

I am trying to get all my albums to sync with my phone and be available offline but It keeps on saying that I have selected too many tracks for the offline mode. Is there a limit to how many songs you can have? Thanks :)

Spotify applies a limit of 3,333 tracks but everything is dependent on your phones on-board memory
as Spotify actually copies the tracks to it so you don't need internet connection.
My Galaxy S2 has 11 odd GB and I filled it with 1800 tracks (albeit some were 20 - 30 mins).
Also check if you use on-board memory for photos etc. 'cos Spotify will use a lot of it.
I have asked them to look at this and maybe give warnings about Spotify's memory usage rather
    than the number of tracks.

  • TOC entries: is there a limit to how many links you can have to the same htm in TOC?

TOC entries: is there a limit to how many links you can have to the same htm in TOC? I have an HTM that requires multiple links in the TOC. Now I can't compile a CHM. I have eliminated all other possible problems...

Hmm, that would be a new one on me, but I see new things all the time and try to always keep an open mind.
Okay, so one way past this might be to do the following.
Create a snippet. Copy the content of the desired page and paste into the snippet.
Create 30 different versions of the same topic by simply placing the Snippet into each topic. Then insert the different topics into the TOC.
You should still be able to modify the content of the topic in the single place (the snippet) and by having discrete points from the TOC, there should be no issue and synchronization should work beautifully.
    Cheers... Rick

    Corrine,
I think you make a great point - we often think about "cloud" as something that is still out there and "coming soon" when in truth we are, and have been using it for some time.  If we think about it, most software as a service tools that we use everyday are in fact, cloud applications.
For example, this forum is a cloud application.  The data is stored on servers, and users can sign in and interact with it globally.  Attachments can be downloaded, and content can be shared into other eco systems.
Gmail, Hotmail, most of our internet driven emails are probably cloud apps in that context and we've had them for many years.
If this qualifies, I guess I'm raising my hand...

Yosemite mail v8.0 not showing how many messages are in a mailbox. For example inbox. Before upgrading it used to show how many messages you had in your inbox. anyone know how to switch "on" the number of messages? Or has this feature been removed?

Agreed! This feature was very useful. If you find out how to turn it on, please let me know.
Apple, there is plenty of room in the window header all the way across on both sides of the word "Inbox". It's important to know many messages are in the Inbox. It provides a progress meter when you're cleaning out mail and striving for inbox zero.
