How many times have you had your screen replaced?

Wow this is getting worse and worse. going on 5 times this last replacement lasted about 4 months.

i need to have mine replaced, but they say i have to pay for it. it broke after less than 6 months. mine broke by the plastic prying away from the screen (where it says "iBook G4") when i opened it. the screen just emits light with no picture, just grey pixels. the apple rep said they don't have a recall out on that so i would have to pay approx $900. my under warrenty ibook that apple won't honor the warrenty for functions fine other wise.
iBook G4 12"   Mac OS X (10.4)   broken display that apple won't fix even though it is under warrenty

  • How many times have you sent your computer in for repair?

I am on my third repair since I bought the machine in April.
Once for a hinge that creaked loudly when you opened and closed it.
The second times was for the heat and whine as well as a the screen opening button had been worn down to black. (it came back with a new button and the same logic board and the same whine)
Now it is getting service for the whine, the peice of the top case the repair depot bent and a faulty fan.
I feel like they don't want to call it a lemon because it is a 1.83 machine and they will have a hard time selling it as a refurb.
Has anyone else had similar expiriences?

I have stripped screw heads too and it pains me to think about it. Thought this was just me. They said I can bring it to a store to have looked at but really I would rather not.
But I've had to send mine in 3 times for the whine. First time they replaced the power inverter and fans (even though I firmly do not believe that was the problem and talked to them at length about where the sound was and the updated logic board). The computer came back even louder. Back it went. This time, it came back "within spec". At this point I'm thinking I never should have sent it in so I use it for a week and the whine just gets louder and higher (although really not much different than originally). So I call Apple and sent it in again thinking at this point, I've already moved all my work so I can send it in as many times as it takes. But this time, it comes back with a new logic board and I have to say the difference is amazing. It is completely silent. I thought I could live with the noise before and that it should be expected and sending it in may cause other problems or maybe it really is within spec but the new logic board is absolutely dead silent and cooler that even the fans turn on less. I feel a lot better now (until Merom was announced today but oh well).

  • How many times have you lost your Nano?

My sister got a Nano for Christmas, and a week later, she can't find it. Has anyone else out there lost their Nano? Should I really buy a device that can be easily lost within a week?

    she can't find it.
    Inside the house=misplaced
    Outside of the home=stolen
Cellphones & iPods are rarely if ever "lost."
For my iPod Nano I got one of these - !http://www.macally.com/newpro/MCase5/bigt.jpg! which enables me to wear the iPod around my neck whenever I leave the house. To date, I have not removed the case. Actually, there is no need to.

  • How many times can you upgrade your ipad mini?

i have the ipad mini, and i would like to know, how many times you can upgrade? reason being the 3rd gerantion ipodtouch only upgrades once. for an ipad mini can i upgrade more than once, because it would be fair

There is no limit to the number of times an iPad can get an iOS update. Eventually though the iOS will evolve beyond the capabilities of the specific iPad. Tis is already the case for the original iPad. That iPad can only be updated to iOS 5.1.1 and no further. So far all iPads after that continue to receive updates when Apple releases them.

  • How many crashes have you had today?

    Hi guys!
Just interested to know generally, how many crashes people have per session?
I'm using G5 dual 2.3 Ghz 4.5 GB Ram, with Logic 7.1.1 and OSX 10.4.9
    I regularly have 1 or 2 and sometimes 3!
I have now got used to seeing the familiar pop up "Logic has quit unexpectedly"
    Is this the norm?
    Cheers
    Mike

I haven't had many crashes at all lately. Let me even over-state the case and say that I crash once a week.
But the question is this: what am I doing that causes Logic to crash? I'd say that 99% of the time, crashing can be attributed to one of three things...
    • opening multiple songs at once, where one of them ends up calling for more samples to be loaded into RAM than Logic can handle. It's 75/25 that Logic will crash.
    • Sometimes, using one of Logic's more touch-and-go features (beat mapping, for example) or performing an operation that's inherently buggy will corrupt a song, and that will cause a crash. If I'm able to remedy the problem within the file, no more crashing.
    • something inexplicable that's extremely difficult to pinpoint the cause of, i.e., "who knows". But these are few and far between on my system.
Now... I'm running 7.1.1 on 10.4.5. I have VERY few 3rd party plugs on my system. I can run Mail, Safari, Transmit, Text Edit, Excel, and a variety of other programs all at the same time and, like DR9, I rarely shut my computer off. Sometimes I'll even check my mail while I'm doing a real-time bounce within Logic (hee hee). I say all this to show that crashing isn't necessarily a "given" with Logic, though I will say that it took me a looooong time to arrive at a system configuration where Logic was this stable.
Now#2... recently I was at a studio where I installed Logic 7.1.1 on their system with 10.4.9. It was a ******* nightmare, because Logic was crashing constantly. But then again, so was PT on that same computer... We thought it might be a USB problem, because the crashing seemed to occur on either program when we moved the mouse and activated the dock. Then we thought it might be a graphics problem because the entire computer would hang when one of the funky dialog windows was opened (i.e. Logic's preference windows). Was it 10.4.9 that was causing the problem? Or just a funky system? Hard to say...
The long and short of it is that Logic shouldn't be crashing so often on you like this. Could be a corrupt song, could be that you're trying to do something that Logic doesn't like, could be that your system needs a good clean-up. Who knows, but it's not normal.
I hope you can get to the bottom of it because I know first-hand how ******* annoying this situation is and I feel your pain.

  • How Many MBPs Have You Had So Far??

Just bit frustrated with the QC and infant mortality rate of MBP. I've read several threads herein which indicated that many people are on their second, third or even fouth unit.
Given how long the model been in the market, the number seems quite high...
I am now on my 3rd MBP in 10 days since buying it. The first unit had a bad keyboard ("1" would not work at all) and got replaced the very next day I bought it. The second unit lasted 8 days and the LCD screen just blanked out in a middle of my work (yesterday). Today, I am on my third unit just having reloaded Bootcamp, XP Pro, MS Office, GPS Mapping SW, and a suite of antivirus and spyware on Windows side (for the second time mind you). Now, I'm resetting up few things on OSX side, including installing X11 and so on...
Hopefully this is the last unit and lasts without another catostrophic event! The productivity has gone down the tube for me this past week....
If you are wondering, the first two were week 10 units and the third is week 14 unit.
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

i just got my mbp yesterday. mine is a week 14 unit and it exhibits whine problem from time to time. I am not going to exchange it yet since the problem doesnt seem to have been rectified. other than whine issue it is more or less a fine machine though... i am using quietMBP to shut it up whenever it whines.
but anyway if they ever fix the issue - (or has it been fixed in W15 units yet?)
would I be able to exchange it for a new unit? is there some sort of a date limit or anything? i am living in singapore and the guys over here are really picky and they try their best to avoid giivng u exchanges and stuff...
also..if i ever get an exchange, would that be a brand new unit or a refurb?

  • Not really FCP realted but how many times do you use your mini DV tapes???

I mean, do you buy new ones and only use them once or do you record over them to save money?
When working professionally does it make much difference?
    Cheers,
    Alex

Oh, yeah. On the subject of blacking DV tapes, I don't either. But I do prep a tape by recording a minute (more or less) of bars and tone to it before rolling. This might be unreasonable paranoia on my account, but my gut tells me that there's more likely to be a problem with the very beginning of a tape or the very end than the middle. Plus, putting down a minute of bars and tone ensures that I have plenty of preroll for cueing later.
Whenever possible, I do the same on the end of a tape. When I'm done with that tape, I turn on the camera's bars-and-tone generator and roll for at least a minute, to give myself postroll. Since DV and HDV cameras record timecode along with sound and picture, stopping the camera means you stop the timecode, making it darned near impossible to log-and-capture that last frame you shot. So putting on a minute or so of postroll is a habit for me.
Sometimes that's not possible. If I'm shooting a live event, sometimes I have to roll right up to the end of the tape, then switch as fast as possible to my next prepped tape and keep shooting. But whenever I can, I put the postroll on it.
None of this would be necessary if we could lay down black and timecode to DV tape the way we can to Digibeta or what have you, then record only sound and picture leaving the continuous timecode track alone. Alas, ain't possible.
(Wildly off-topic, but does anybody know if DVCPRO has the same limitation? If not, it's just another reason to be jealous of my friends who shoot HDX-900s.)

  • How many times do you restart your playbook per day

I have noticed a problem since the last software update. Bridge applications are not stable. Calender does not work at all. while bridge is on the device is very unstable that I have to restart 2-3 times a day.
The most difficult part is when u jump into a meeting counting on playbook for note taking and it crashes, either during the meeting or even u find it hanging just when u go in. The way the reset is performed is simply too difficult to deal with. If RIM was planning such an unstable platform, they should have made resetting easier.
I also noticed that once an app does not terminate properly. i.e. the icon the desktop remain dimmed after u close the app, u are screwed. Find a good pen and paper to take your notes, because with the rest mechanism, in a meeting people will think you are simply constipated. Believe me no one will buy that your are resetting your device.

I have not turned mine off or restarted in weeks.
Bridged to Torch on OS 6.0.0.570, soon to be 6.0.0.600 in a few minutes.

  • How many times do you have to pay for Creative Cloud complete plan prepaid if it says an amount of money per year? do you have to pay that every year?

how many times do you have to pay for a Creative Cloud complete plan prepaid if it says an amount of money per year? do you have to pay that every year?

Perhaps the unclear part here is that the Cloud is a subscription offering. You never pay for it outright and never actually own it.
12 months pre-paid simply means paying the full 12 months subscription upfront. The following year, you do the same. And the same every year after that.
Like any subscription, if you want to keep using the software, you keep paying the monthly (or annual) fee every month (or year), year in, year out.
When you cancel your subscription, or it expires and you don't renew, then the software stops working.

  • How many times can you resend an iTunes Gift Card?

Tried sending an iTunes gift card to a @facebook account but the recipient hasn't received it.
Is it possible to send to another of their @facebook accounts and if that also fails then to a conventional account?
I guess my question is how many times can you resend on Gift Card and to how many different email accounts?

To use an iTune Gift Card to buy books...
Open iTunes on your computer and click on the iTunes Store.
You'll need to be signed in...
Click on the little House icon in the dark gray bar across the top. (or Shift+Command+H)
On the right side of the page under Quick Links click Redeem and enter your code.
Then it will show your credit balance in the dark gray bar across the top next to your account name to let you know how much you have to spend.
Then as you buy books, it'll deduct from the credit balanace.
There is a distinction between, iTunes Gift Card and Apple Gift Card.
Apple Gift Card: can be used to purchase Apple hardware and accessories at any Apple Retail Store, the Apple Online Store...
iTunes Gift Card: To give music, movies, TV shows, apps, books, or anything on the iTunes Store, the App Store, the iBooks Store or the Mac App Store, select an iTunes Gift Card

  • How many times can you watch a rented movie in iTunes?

Title describes the question. I'm thinking about either buying or renting a movie in iTunes, so question is how many times can you watch a rented movie? Just once? X times within a given timeframe? Thanks,

You have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and 24 hours (in the US) or 48 hours (elsewhere) after you've started viewing to finish it. Once the rental period expires, the movie will disappear from your iTunes library. Happy movie watching!
