ok,
I'm happy w/ my Emu 0404 soundcard as of now, but i'd really like to be able to record more than two tracks simultaneously. I'm running my mackie 1604 VLZ Pro into the 1/4" inputs from bus 1 & bus 2. What i'm wondering is if there's a way to connect up to the digital or optical inputs via my mixer (or some adapter to do so) so i could utilize those in PatchMix for more simultaneous tracking. This would be great when there's more than two folks playing at my place. I really only need 4 since i personally would bus a drum set - don't really like messing w/ 8 tracks of drums...yet
The I/O config. going into the 0404 is:
Two 1/4" Analog Inputs and Outputs - already used sub 1 & 2 going in, coming out goes to channel 15 & 16
Optical 24-bit/96kHz S/PDIF In/Out (switchable to AES/EBU) - may get used for the PS2
Coaxial 24-bit/96kHz S/PDIF In/Out (switchable to AES/EBU) - what i would think could be tracked w/ a converter
MIDI In/Out - not gonna happen from what i've learned
First off, is it possible?
secondly, if so, what do i need to make it possible?
I was thinking something like the Art DIO to just take my other two buses in and put them out of the DIO as digital outs?

4 x I/O (like the model number says 0404) which of 2 is analog I/O's and 2 digital I/O's.
This means --> 2 analog ins with that Mackie.
To input via SPDIF into 0404 --> you need a A/D Converter [Mixer -> A/D -> 0404]. The A/D can cost about the same another 0404 would cost.
My suggestion is to get a device with enough of I/O's so you get drums recorded properly as well (like you mentioned).
There are couple of low priced systems available with good amount of I/O's --> like

Hi, I'm trying to play over a 190 tracks simultaneously, but SP will only let me open 126. Is there a way around this, maybe create two files: one with 126 and the rest on another?? Any help would be appreciated.

They don't list a number in the [product specs|http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/#soundtrackpro], probably because it would be somewhat system dependent. I can for instance add more than 126 tracks on an Intel iMac, although I'm not trying to playback that many.
I would think that for instance, an 8 core Intel Mac Pro is going to run a lot more than your dual G5.

I don't known how many databases can be opened simultaneously in a single file. After my application open 499 databases in a single file simultaneously, DB->open return error 12.(can not allocate memory ?).

The maximum number of locks is the number of locks that can be simultaneously requested in the system. The maximum number of lock objects is the number of objects that can simultaneously be locked in the system. Selecting appropriate values requires an understanding of your application and its databases. If the values are too small, requests for locks in an application will fail. Configuring a Berkeley DB Transactional Data Store application is more complicated. The recommended algorithm for selecting the maximum number of locks, lockers, and lock objects is to run the application under stressful conditions and then review the lock system's statistics to determine the maximum number of locks, lockers, and lock objects that were used. Then, double these values for safety. However, in some large applications, finer granularity of control is necessary in order to minimize the size of the Lock subsystem.
The maximum number of lockers can be estimated as follows:
* If the database environment is using transactions, the maximum number of lockers can be estimated by adding the number of simultaneously active non-transactional cursors open database handles to the number of simultaneously active transactions and child transactions (where a child transaction is active until it commits or aborts, not until its parent commits or aborts).
* If the database environment is not using transactions, the maximum number of lockers can be estimated by adding the number of simultaneously active non-transactional cursors and open database handles to the number of simultaneous non-cursor operations.
The maximum number of lock objects needed for a single database operation can be estimated as follows:
* For Btree and Recno access methods, you will need one lock object per level of the database tree, at a minimum. (Unless keys are quite large with respect to the page size, neither Recno nor Btree database trees should ever be deeper than five levels.) Then, you will need one lock object for each leaf page of the database tree that will be simultaneously accessed.
* For the Queue access method, you will need one lock object per record that is simultaneously accessed. To this, add one lock object per page that will be simultaneously accessed. (Because the Queue access method uses fixed-length records and the database page size is known, it is possible to calculate the number of pages -- and, therefore, the lock objects -- required.) Deleted records skipped by a DB_NEXT or DB_PREV operation do not require a separate lock object. Further, if your application is using transactions, no database operation will ever use more than three lock objects at any time.
* For the Hash access method, you only need a single lock object.
For all access methods, you should then add an additional lock object per database for the database's metadata page.
Note that transactions accumulate locks over the transaction lifetime, and the lock objects required by a single transaction is the total lock objects required by all of the database operations in the transaction. However, a database page (or record, in the case of the Queue access method), that is accessed multiple times within a transaction only requires a single lock object for the entire transaction.
The maximum number of locks required by an application cannot be easily estimated. It is possible to calculate a maximum number of locks by multiplying the maximum number of lockers, times the maximum number of lock objects, times two (two for the two possible lock modes for each object, read and write). However, this is a pessimal value, and real applications are unlikely to actually need that many locks. Reviewing the Lock subsystem statistics is the best way to determine this value.
I created DB_CONFIG file, and add three lines:
set_lk_max_locks 20000
set_lk_max_lockers 20000
set_lk_max_objects 20000
As the default values are 1000 of each type of object, my applicaton open 499 database(except internal database) simultaneously(CDB modal) . After changed parameters, my application opend above 6000 database.

In Photoshop, 20 steps can be recorded in the Histroy panel with the defult setting, and we can change the setting to record more or less steps by choosing "Edit> Preference".
In Lightroom, how many steps can be recorded in the History panel with the defult setting? And how can we change the number of step to be recorded?

I guess since the history is kept in the database (and not only in memory as with PS), there is not so much an issue in limiting them.

Based on my experience, the maximum limitation for virtual networks and local networks is 100 per subscription and the limitation for local network
sites is 10 per virtual network in Azure. If you connect each on-premise branch with an Azure virtual network, it would be possible to do that. However, the default limitation for virtual networks and local networks is 10 per subscription, you can request

How many min. can i record with voice record with MuVo V200 1

I'm going to buy the Creative MuVo V200 GB.
Now my questions about this player.
How many minutes can i record over voice recording.
Maybe someone can tell me how much Megabytes minute of recording will take.

Yea I can get 24 tracks easy with no problems I was just hoping I could get another 24 tracks with no problems, but that might be wishful thinking...Do u think if I blow my memory out to 2 gigs Ill have and easier time? I plan on doing so anyway. My 80 gig HD turns at 7200 rpm , my memory is at 768 right now, I havent tested it yet but I hope it works..lol Would it be easier on my computer to run logic on a seperate hard drive?

I have cDAQ-9172 and 9411.
From the specification of 9411, there are 6DI channels of 9411.
The NI-DAQmx help say
Note PFI terminals are available when the device is installed in slot 5 or slot 6 of an NI cDAQ-9172 chassis.
So, I don't know whether that means 9172 has 2 counters can be used simultaneously.
My question is 9411 has 6DI channels, it can be used as counters simultaneously?
I have more 2 device generate frequency which need to be acquired.
I hope someone here can help me or give me some hint.

Hi QIA,
The cDAQ-9172 has 2 counters that can be used simultaneously, and you're correct that installing your NI 9411 in slot 5 or slot 6 will allow you to access those counters. Any of the 6 DI lines on your 9411 can be used to access the inputs to either counter.
I'm not sure if you're saying that you have more than 2 signals to measure frequency on. If that's the case, post a little more info about your application (How often do you need to read the frequency? How many channels?) and we can try to figure out a good solution.

High Def mini DV camcorders, how many minutes can you record?

Im looking for new camcorder,
Sony website says High Def 60 minutes of playback and recording
But guys at Best buy say 20-30 minutes so im just trying to find out whos right.

Whether using High Def tape or regular DV tape you will record for at least 60 minutes. Most DV tapes have grace by adding a few minutes of extra tape just in case. Where you'll find a difference is if you are taping in High Def or standard Def. High def seems to consume more power or standard def. Thus, you battery will not last a total 60 minutes unless you buy a biger battery than comes standard with most cameras. Perhaps that was what the guys at Best Buy were trying to convey.
DV tape whether high def or standard def is superior to camera that employ a hard drive, record directly to DVD, or mini DVD, or even flash based video cameras because each of these encode the video and compress it in different ways. In most cases you can get at the video, but to make it editable you'll need some kind of 3rd party application to convert it to the DV standard anyway. then you will have the issue of how to store hours upon hours of video. DV tape is the way to go.

How many applications can I run simultaneously?

I just bought a new MacBook Air after owning a white Macbook for the last four years. I used to push that pretty hard, but I feel I'm still habituated towards quitting applications when I'm done with them, rather than keeping everything open.
With the new MacBook I have two user accounts that I'm constantly switching back and forth between, and I run something like ten apps in each. Mail, iChat, Reeder, Safari, iWork, Skype, Twitter, iCal, iTunes, Grapher, and software called TestGen which I use to make worksheets and tests for my students is in my user account for work, and Mail, Ichat, Reeder, Skype, Twitter, iCal, iTunes, and Safari in my personal account. On the Macbook I used to quit out of the account before logging into another one, but so far the Air seems to handle both being logged in at the same time. Is this level of usage fairly normal?
If most of the apps are in the background most of the time and none of them are particularly processor heavy, will this level of usage have a drastic negative effect on battery life?

Idle applications reside in RAM and should not impact on battery life.
Each users' environment and useage varies.
Only you can answer your own question by seeing how long your battery goes.

I have the CHS435HDC and I was talking to the rep and he thought it was 7 shows at one time....being a previous tech rep from the 'other guy', I know the standard is two shows at once and watching one of the other, nothing beyond those two.....
Anyone know the answer? Checked the website and didn't get anything, googled the manual and that was no help and cicso website doesn't show this model...

You can record two programs at once, and concurrently:
1) Watch either of the programs being recorded.
2) Watch a previously recorded program.
You cannot watch a third channel or a VOD program.
The above is on the DVR itself. If you have additional STBs, you can of course watch other channels or VOD on them.

How many computers can take wireless internet from a MBP?

Hello guys, my MBP takes the internet wiredly. Temporarily there's no router in place and my flatmates don't have internet so I've enabled the internet sharing (System Preferences>Sharing>Internet) and have seen that one computer at a single time has connected to mine. I'm just wondering now how many computers can connect, wirelessly, simultaneously to a MBP. Does anyone know?

think the answer you are looking for is ten.
Generally, any wireless hot spot can support up to
ten connections at a time. I am not sure, but I don't
think it matters if its a dedicated wi-fi router or a
computer that's sharing a networked connection.
A limit of 10 is impossible as a general rule, because of all the places around the world that serve more than 10 customers with wifi from a single, generic brand access point behind the counter.
I see from Apple's specs that the little AirPort Express does have a limit of 10, but the AirPort Extreme stations support up to 50 users. Other brands support even more.
There is probably a low limit on the number of users that can be connected to a computer sharing Internet, and it very well could be 10 in that specific case. Apple's documentation doesn't say.

Thanks. I wasn't aware that you could have multiple iOS devices connected via WiFi at once. That didn't seem to work the last time I knew of anybody trying it, but obviously it was their setup, not a general limitation.

How many channels can GB output?

I am new to GB, coming from the MIDI world. In my setup on another
computer I can use up to 112 MIDI channels.
I'd like to import my MIDI sequences to GB and play them with Apple
loops but from what an Apple salesman at a non-Apple Store told
me I can only output about 8 channels of music.
How can this be? I thought GB could even be used for film scoring.
