How move a physical disk directory that contains images

PSE 11. How can I move a directory on my hard drive that contains images to another drive from within PSE 11? Thanks.

Hi Bazsl,
Just a quick answer, late to pick up my wife -grin.
Starting with the assumption you are just seeing the column of directories without the indication of what drive they are on:    If So then:
On the left margin next to the begining of the yellow folders aka directories, there is a small symbol of two yellow folders, if you click it the normal directory view will appear  (also assuming you are familar with earlier versions of PSE ).
Then you can click and drag the directory to its new location, again the system may take a few minutes to complete the move if you have a big catalog of pictures...
gotta run..

  • How to cd to a directory that contains spaces in the name

A brain dead application has created a directory hierarchy that contains white spaces in the directory path. For example: /first_dir/second dir/third dir/filename.
I want to look at the file from the command line via iTerm/Terminal but I can not get there because the whitespace is interpreted as the end of the text string. Example: cd /first_dir/second dir results in "/first_dir/second no such file or directory"
If I try "escape" the whitespace with: cd /first_dir/second\ dir/third\ dir I get an error that says "/first_dir/second dir/third dir no such file or directory"
How can I change to the desired target directory?
Second question, why do people do such stupid things? Haven't they heard of the underscore "_" for a space??
    Thanks

How can I change to the desired target directory?
Drag the file or enclosing folder into the Terminal window instead of attempting to type the path out.
Second question, why do people do such stupid things? Haven't they heard of the underscore "_" for a space?
Because they write applications intended for the majority of Mac users, who only go into the Terminal or similar software when troubleshooting.

  • How do I recover a directory that I accidentally emptied in the trash?

How do I recover a directory that I accidentally emptied in the trash?

Restore it from your backups. If you don't have backups now you have a really good reason to start keeping a backup. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore. You may also find my FAQ on maintenance helpful.
    Basics of File Recovery
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When you delete files you erase only the directory entries, not the files themselves. However, the space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.0 is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.5.2 is Intel Mac compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. The current version, 1.5.1, is Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.
OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
    1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
    2. Toast
    3. Impression
    4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.

  • Can Java be started in a directory that contains non ascii char

I installed a product developed using Java in a folder whose name contains non-ascii chars, such as Japanese chars or german chars.
This will cause error said: unable initialise java virtual machine, error code -1
Some one said Java doesn't like being started in a directory that contains non ascii characters. There appears to be no way of passing it unicode parameters.
Is there anyone once hit the similiar issue or know the root cause of such problem?
    Thanks

Yes you can use your web start application console. To enter data which is required for your application it is better idea to use java application which runs in console mode althou you may try to run console of windows and then read data from its input stream.

  • What is the directory that contains the init directories ?

What is the directory that contains the init directories (rc0.d/ to
    rc6.d/)?
I want to install a copy of vmware5

I think you've missed the point. Arch uses BSD-style init - /etc/rc.d. If vmware, or any other app, has an init script, it should be installed in /etc/rc.d, and if you want the app to start/stop on system boot/halt, the daemon name should be added to rc.conf DAEMONS. Creating rcX.d directories is pointless, because the Arch init process won't do anything with them.

  • Displaying an RTF document that contains images

    Hello,
I am trying to display styled text that contains images. I thought the simplest way to do this was to save my documents as RTF documents, and display them through the JEditorPane. But, when the JEditorPane display the documents, the text is styled properly, but there are no images being drawn. Is the JEditorPane capable of displaying RTF files that contain images?
My main objective is to display documents in Java that other people have created; so if there is some other small libraries that can do this. I would be interested. I need to display the documents in an applet, so I want the library to be small.
    Thanks
    Vance

JEditorPane will render HTML and basic CSS with images.

  • How can I list all folders that contain files with a specific file extension? I want a list that shows the parent folders of all files with a .nef extension.

not the total path to the folder containing the files but rather just a parent folder one level up of the files.
So file.nef that's in folder 1 that's in folder 2 that's in folder 3... I just want to list folder 1, not 2 or 3 (unless they contain files themselves in their level)

    find $HOME -iname '*.nef' 2>/dev/null | awk -F '/'   'seen[$(NF-1)]++ == 0 { print $(NF-1) }'
This will print just one occurrence of directory
The 'find' command files ALL *.nef files under your home directory (aka Folder)
The 2>/dev/null throws away any error messages from things like "permissions denied" on a protected file or directory
The 'awk' command extracts the parent directory and keeps track of whether it has displayed that directory before
-F '/' tells awk to split fields using the / character
NF is an awk variable that contains the number of fields in the current record
NF-1 specifies the parent directory field, as in the last field is the file name and minus one if the parent directory
    $(NF-1) extracts the parent directory
seen[] is a context addressable array variable (I choose the name 'seen'). That means I can use text strings as lookup keys.  The array is dynamic, so the first time I reference an element, if it doesn't exist, it is created with a nul value.
seen[$(NF-1)] accesses the array element associated with the parent directory.
seen[$(NF-1)]++ The ++ increments the element stored in the array associated with the parent directory key AFTER the value has been fetched for processing.  That is to say the original value is preserved (short term) and the value in the array is incremented by 1 for the next time it is accessed.
the == 0 compares the fetched value (which occurred before it was incremented) against 0.  The first time a unique parent directory is used to access the array, a new element will be created and its value will be returned as 0 for the seen[$(NF-1)] == 0 comparison.
On the first usage of a unique parent directory the comparison will be TRUE, so the { print $(NF-1) } action will be performed.
After the first use of a unique parent directory name, the seen[$(NF-1)] access will return a value greater than 0, so the comparison will be FALSE and thus the { print $(NF-1)] } action will NOT be performed.
Thus we get just one unique parent directory name no matter how many *.nef files are found.  Of course you get only one unique name, even if there are several same named sub-directories but in different paths
You could put this into an Automator workflow using the "Run Shell Script" actions.

  • How to determine physical disk size on solaris

I would like to know whether there is a simple method available for determining physical hard disk sizes on Sun sparc machines. On HP based machines it is simple:
    1. run "ioscan -fnC disk" - to find all disk devices and there raw device target address ie /dev/rdsk/c0t2d2
    2. run "diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c0t2d2" - display the attributes of the physical disk including size in Kbyes.
This simple process allows me create simple scripts that I can use to automate collation of audit data for a large number of HP machines.
On Sun based machines I've looked at the prtvtoc, format, and devinfo commands and have had no joy. Methods and suggestion will be well appriciated.

    ok,
    format should say .....eg
    type format ..
    AVAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS:
    0. c0t0d0 <SUN2.1G cyl 2733 alt 2 hd 19 sec 80>
if this is not a Sun disk, and you do not get the info,
select the required disk and select partition and then print. This will display what you need.
    hope this helps

  • Does anyone have any idea how do i key in number that contains 20digit, 17 decimal places?

I need to key in a number that contains at least 17 decimal places using numeric digit control and i need to use expression note as well. Can anyone help?

After laying down a numeric control right click on it and select "Format and Precision..." to change the number of decimal places. You can also right click and change the "Representation" of the numeric control. By default it will be a DBL which is a 64 bit decimal number with an approximate range of 10**(-308) to 10**308. This is about 15 decimal digits of precision. I know SGL will only give you 10**(-38)to 10**38, which is about 7 decimal digits of precision. Neither of these will cut it for what you are trying to do.
I would recommend using the Extended Precision (EXT) representation. According to the linked document La
bVIEW's implementation of the Extended Precision follows the IEEE 80-bit spec(on Windows OSes). Supposedly even the IEEE 128-bit spec(not implemented on the Windows OSes)only gets you 19 decimal places but I am not sure what the limitations of LabVIEW's implementation are. (I found a good table in the LabVIEW help title, "Numeric Data Types Table".)
I was able to successfully get 17 digits after the decimal point but that was with a leading 0 only before the decimal point. I think you may just be approaching the limit of how a number can be represented in this programming language.
    Anyone else?

I have a file that contains numbers as US formmated $$$  such as $1,123,123,123  I have a perl script on one of our linux servers that creates the csv file as

    $222
    482'
    $114
    820'
    $188

I apologize but you wrote :
    WALTER-MILANO-ITALY wrote:

It's not a matter of preferences. The OP can't import a file whose values are separated by semi-colons.
He must replace them by commas.
    With your scheme :
    Original datas
    'Total Dollars','$1,123,123,123','some other string','etc'
    after your step 1
    'Total Dollars';'$1,123,123,123','some other string','etc'
    after your step 2
    'Total Dollars';'$1,123,123,123''some other string''etc'
and the datas are completly unusable
A possible scheme would be :
    Original datas
    'Total Dollars','$1,123,123,123','some other string','etc'
    'Totals Dollars','$12,123,123,123’,’blahblah’,’etc'
after possible step 1 (replace ‘,’ by ",")
    'Total Dollars";"$1,123,123,123";"some other string";"etc'
    'Totals Dollars";"$12,123,123,123";"blahblah";"etc'
after possible step 2 (replace single ‘ by ")
    "Total Dollars";"$1,123,123,123";"some other string";"etc"
    "Totals Dollars";"$12,123,123,123";"blahblah";"etc"
after possible step 3 (replace ";" by ",")
    "Total Dollars","$1,123,123,123","some other string","etc"
    "Totals Dollars","$12,123,123,123","blahblah","etc"
This one may be imported by Numbers on thez OP’s machine.
I don't know if these changes may be done with Perl but I know that they are easy to do with AppleScript.
But honestly, if Perl is able to build a TAB separated values file, it would be more efficient.

  • How to display an HTML data which contains images in CR

    Hi Experts,
I have a HTML file which contains images and text. I will store all this data in to the database as binary data(SQL server 2008). How can I display the whole  data in report.
    Thanks in advance,
    Salah

    hello all,
most times when HTML is stored in a database there are many tags that will not work. the tags that will work are very basic and limited to the formatting types that you can do within a Text Object...so not much.
if you need all of the HTML from a database interpreted, you need to activate pass-through html on your system. then if you put the field into a formula (one line in height) the HTML should be properly displayed. for more info on activating pass-through html see the beginning of the Users Guide for webelements that is in the main download [here|Crystal Reports webElements].
please note that there are some major limitations in this method:
    1) you cannot print the html displayed when using the print button on the crystal reports toolbar as it will show up as text...you can try the browsers print functionality to see if that works for you
    2) you can not export the report and see the html displayed...it will show up as text
    3) pagination may not work for you...i.e. if you have an especially long section of html in your database, the page may not break where you want it to
    best of luck,
    jamie

    Hi
Our SCCM server is at our main campus, across the street from our campus, I have 16 computers  that need imaging that are in a totally separate building that is linked to the main campus via microwave.
Could I copy the wim file to a portable drive and take it across the street, is there a way to image these computers and have it run a task sequence from a portable drive? if not, do you have any advice. I don't think the microwave could handle a multicasting.
Any advice would greatly be appreciated.
