How much Apple TV do I need?

Hello,
Assuming I were to buy an AppleTV, how do I choose between the smaller and larger disc sizes? If you buy or rent movies (even from your computer) does AppleTV try to store them on AppleTV? Could they be stored on your main computer and streamed to AppleTV?
Thanks for any help on this.
Todd

160GB will give you a bit more future proofing.
And is highly recommended if you want to browse lots of photos. Or if you're wireless connectivity is not super fast / reliable.
I sync movies and photos (and 1 or 2 series, BBC Blue Planet / Planet Earth) but can stream everything if I want to (more movies, all the other tv series, etc).
Plus 160Gb has one truly enormous advantage. Take it with you. Take 100 movies on a 160GB disk with you - on holiday, on business, round to relatives, etc. Don't know how many laws that might break, but it's 100 movies, or more, in something the size of 2 DVD cases.

How much free space do I need to have on my 32GB iPhone 3GS for optimum performance? I have only 4 GB left and I am worried that performance will soon be degraded.

Apple allocates space on the flash memory for cacheing proposes. You shouldnt worry. You can fill it up with out preformance problems.

  • How much iCloud space do I need?

IIs there any way to know how much the iCloud space I need to "rent" from Apple before handing my photos over to them?

Yeah, you'll need about 45 GB.
Note that you cannot merge those libraries in Photos.
I would suggest that you merge the two libraries using Aperture first, and then import that library into Photos.
The Aperture and iPhoto libraries contain some previews and thumbnails and other stuff that makes sense, so the space you need in iCloud may be something more like 35 GB, but figure 35 GB to 45 GB as a safe range.

  • How much iPad memory do I need?

I need an iPad for work, to compose music using an app, and surf the web. I don't plan on saving much music or photos on it and I'm not a video game player. Based on that, do I need any more memory than 16G?

You might consider getting a refurbished iPad for less than the regular retail price. Then you could get a 32GB.

  • How much RAM do we really need

I currently have a G5 with 4gb or RAM. I'm thinking of buying a new MAC pro - but given that it's memory is expensive - my question is how much ram do I really need for aperture to run well?
Can I get away with just 2GB? Or should I just suffer(financially) and move to 4GB. My camera is 10.4 megapixels and I tend to convert the files to photoshop for editing purposes.

You Americans have it easy! There's a nice Mac Pro on the Apple refurb store -
3.0GHz, 2GB RAM and an X1900XT/512MB at a price to make us in the UK cry! (about $1700 less than we'd pay!)
I guess I'll stick with my G5 for a while (very smooth with 3.5Gb RAM, my MBP is much better now with 2GB, 1GB got slow at times).

How much storage space do i need? 16, 32 or 64GB?

It really depends what u use ur iPad for, I have a an iPod4 so I don't need music on my iPad I just have apps and photos and only use 15 gb out of my 32gb, I don't store videos unless I'll be planning on watching them soon and I delete them straight after,  unless u really want ur music on I'd go for the 64 gb, but i sit comfortable with a 32gb

  • How much space does do I need?

I want to create a website, and post it to the internet via. FTP protocol.
So I am probably buying a webhotel and domain from www.one.com, as it seems really cheap, and that's what I need.
The question then becomes, how much web space do I need.
Is there anyway to check in iWeb how big the webpage is?

One way would be to publish your site from iWeb to a folder on the Desktop. Then click on the folder named as your site and do ⌘-I (or Control click and choose Get Info). The size of the folder will be indicated in the upper right of the Info pane.

    Thanks

Apple do not repair but will replace with an equivalent model.  UK cost is £186.44.

  • I haven't done an update since 24.0 because my computer is running out of memory. How much MORE memory will I need to get up to version 28.0?

I haven't done an update since 24.0 because my computer is running out of memory. How much MORE memory will I need to get up to version 28.0?
    My computer is really old.
It is running out of memory.
I haven't done a firefox update since 24.0 because I think it will explode my computer.
    I see that v28.0 takes 200MB.
How much more is this than what is already loaded for my v24.0?
Will it just add the extra pieces, or will it require a free block of 200MB (which my computer does not have)?
I don't want to crash and lockup my computer because I try to install something that is too big for the remaining memory.
    Thanks.

You should updated to Firefox 28, Firefox updates don't take any new space they just replace the existing files.
There are some things you can do to clean up your hard drive to free up space however, http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?p=21178060 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956324, also uninstall programs you don't use anymore and delete files you don't need anymore.
You should also start saving up for a new machine, Windows XP is being dropped from support by Microsoft in a few days, which means it will no longer be safe to use on the internet.

  • How much HD space do I need to create my movie in FCE?

If I create a 20-minute movie in FCE, how much HD space will I need to create the movie and burn to DVD?
I am new to FCE, but when I was using Pinnacle for the PC, Pinnacle would rEnder and write the movie to DVD within the program.
With FCE, I am under the impression I will have to render the movie, then export it to IDVD and burn from there?
    Thanks
    -Mike

iMovie and Final Cut Express do not burn DVDs. You have to export your work from those applications and import the resulting file(s) into iDVD, DVD Studio Pro or Roxio Toast to build & burn your DVDs.
    Regarding hard disk space requirements,
If you have 20 mins of captured DV clips, they will take about 4.3GB of disk space.
If you have a 20 min edited video in FCE and you apply effects, generators or transitions that require rendering, that may take up to another 4.3GB of disk space.
When you export your finished video from FCE, export to QuickTime Movie and UNcheck the option called "Make Movie Self-Contained". That way you will get a QuickTime reference movie that will be rather small, in your case maybe even under 1MB.
When you create & burn your iDVD project, iDVD will use your QuickTime reference movie as input and encode the video to burn it on a DVD. When you save your iDVD project the encoded assets are stored in the project. For a 20 min video, depending on the quality options you select in iDVD, your iDVD project file could be as large as 4.5GB.
So, you should expect to need something like 13GB total space to handle your project from beginning to end.
Of course, if you have more source media, are doing HDV video, do exports from FCE that are Self-Contained, or use iDVD to save DVD images, they will require even more space.

  • How much external disk space is needed for editing HD video?

    If I'm using FCE:
    1) How much external disk space is needed for editing HD video:
if I downloaded 150mins of HD video? and
do editing with it which will have an output of 120mins.
Now PC, going to a MAC user soon   Windows XP

    Hi(bonjour)!
As a rule of thumb for HDV editing, use those numbers:
    12 to 15 meg/second for capturing ( your project is 150 minutes long, so 780 meg/minute, or 117 to 125 Gig).
If you do any editing, add transition, video effect, add 12 to 15 meg /second to the total.
As your project will have to be rendered for the print to tape operation, calculate 12 to 15 meg/second for all the length of your final movie. Add this amount to the total. (example: a 60 minutes movie : 49 Gig).
If you want to burn a DVD on your Mac, calculate 3 to 4 meg/second for downconversion to DV material if you check "self-contained" in quicktime export dialog. (example: your finished project is 60 minutes long : 10.8 Gig)
iDVD itself needs 3 to 4 times this amount if you want flawless operation.
Finally, if you use your internal hard disk for all this storage (it's not a good idea to capture on the same drive where Mac OS X belongs), your Mac OS needs some spare room to breath (doing caching, etc), and your hard drive must have a least 25% of free space to avoid file's fragmentation.
As hard drive's price drop, get the maximum size you can afford. 250 Gig is a good choice if you want to do just one project of 90 to 150 minutes at the time.

  • How much spaces does an iMac need?

I live in a condo in Japan and physical space is limited.
How much physcial space do I need for an iMac?
I have a desk in a spare room where it would fit perfect, but we don't have central heating (Japan generally doesn't have it) so in winter that room is not heated and the daily temperature hovers around 30 degrees Farenheit.
In our heated living/dining room I have a tea cart that is 15 x 24 inches, but I'm not sure if that is big enough.
Another option would be that in winter to move the computer from the spare room to the dining room table every time I wish to use the computer, but that seems a little weird and I would hate to drop it along the way.
I have my eye on either the 17-inch iMac, upgraded 2.16 Ghz, upgraded 2 GB memory, and upgraded 250 GB hard drive.
    or
the 20-inch iMac, 2.16 Ghz, upgraded 2 GB memory and 250 GB hard drive, both with wireless keyboard and remote.
I thank you in advance for your suggestions.

The iMac is about as compact as you can get in a desktop computer. It basically takes up the same amount of space as a monitor of the same size. Of course, you also need a place to put the keyboard and mouse, but the iMac itself isn't very big.
If your tea cart isn't big enough, you might consider buying or building a small table for the iMac. There is at least one company that sells a desk made specifically for the iMac, and it's rather compact (http://www.raindesigninc.com/igo.html)
I wish I was back in Japan. I lived there for a fair while, but came back to the states two years ago. Didn't have a Mac in Japan though.

  • My grandson has a iPod touch 4th and has broken the screen, does any body know how much apple charge for replacement and can you wait for it to be done or does it get sent away.

My grandson has broken his screen on his iPod 4th touch. Does anybody know how much apple charge to replace and do they do it while you wait

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for  64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs unless you have AppleCare+ extended warranty. Then it would be $29. They do not fix yours.
