How much articles in a Folio?

Hi
Is there a limit in the amount of articles that a Folio can contain?
We are scheduling a new project and figures show that the folio may have thousands of articles.
Thank you for your answers.

Not really, but you will start to run into some performance problems. In particular, the larger number of articles you have, the longer it will take to open the folio when the reader taps on it from library view.
Thousands of articles is pretty big. Why so many?

  • How to sort articles inside a folio?

I'm working with basic Acrobat account, and before I could sort the articles inside my folios, but now I can't.
    I follow this steps;
Open my Acrobat account and I select the work space that correspond to the folio that I want to modify. After I make double click in the folio file and I select open document or open document in the new window, but this file never open (always show me loading icon).
    thank you

  • How much interaction is required for magazine type apps?

    Hi All,
I have just had my app rejected for the second time. Apple quoted that it lacks interaction as well as expected qualities such as in app purchases.
After the first rejection i went through and redesigned the app, putting in lots of scrollable text boxes, slide Multi Object states, Pan and zoom, Aspect differences (ie horizontal vs vertical), Web content (twitter feeds, facebook etc), video, navto links from content pages, slideshows, pull out tabs, live links etc. Each article has at least 2-3 of these in it.
My question is how much do i need to put in? I think any more would be doing it just for the sake of it. It is an educational magazine on Marine Aquarium keeping, underwater conservation etc and has a lot of textual information as well as photos. I thought that bu adding a few different interactive features in each article that apple would approve it as it is now a lot more than what you could do as a web based app.
Also quoting that it lacks in app purchases as a reason for rejection? I always thought that this was a developers option, not a requirement. We only have 1 app presently in review and want to know how this goes before committing to more apps. Therefore i chose a single issue license where in app purchases are not allowed. If i had known that this is a requirement for magazine stlye apps, then we wouldnt have gone down this path to start with as the $1000's of dollars for a professional license is not economically viable for a small business....
Has anyone else been through this?
Im happy to share our published folio to anyone for feedback, as at the moment im really not sure what Apple are requiring.
If you have had a magazine type app approved in the App store and can offer any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Email me your adobe email and i will share the published folio for your opinions.
    I appreciate any advice.
    Cheers,
    Michael

    Hi, Michael-
We are experiencing the same response with our first app attempt. The review response was along the lines of 'simple interaction, would not appeal to a wide audience, and better suited as an HTML5 web mobile app (which apple claims they do not approve for the app store; such as mobile apps with a phonegap shell, etc).
After our response referring to this as a multi-publication shell to which we would make additional content available, their reply was opaque stating that apps are not approved due to the number of features and capabilities, but primarily those that provide an in-app experience you could not get anywhere else. I was under the assumption the DPS system was pretty good at offering a rich experience compared to the print world it is modeled after.
I was very excited after testing the capabilities of DPS but now see that regardless of the investments/time you put into these publications apple still has the final word on whether it will be available to the masses in their 'curated' store.
Best of luck to you, let us not give up.

  • How much ram can my MBP support?

First of all, there are two slots for RAM in a MBP, right?
Is there a limit to how much each can support, and a total limit for both?
I just discovered an article on DIGG about 8 GB sticks of RAM, and it got me thinking.

The actual amount of RAM depends on the specific model, since you don't mention that, it's impossible to tell.
However, I can tell you that currently the most any MacBook Pro supports is 4GB of RAM - two 2GB DIMMs.
I don't know the Digg article you're referring to, but it's highly unlikely that it's referring to laptop memory. It's likely to be full-sized DIMMs where space and power consumption are less important factors (all laptops use low-profile DIMMs which consume less power and take up less space than DIMMs used in desktop computers).

  • [SOLVED] How much space is REALLY used on my HDD?

    Hi there,
Today I moved my /home/ dir to its own partition, so that my settings are safe from the system.
I have a question about the used space:
When I use "df -h" to see how much space is used, this is the output for home:
    /dev/sda2             184G  465M  175G   1% /home
So 465 MB should be used. When I right click on home and select properties only 243,5 MB are used!?
I know about the MB/MiB problem... but that would not be that extreme...
    Any ideas?

It is used to store information about the filesystem structure. Inodes, Blocks, etc. Have a look at this c't article: http://www.heise.de/open/Das-Dateisyste … l/104859/0 (German article)

  • How much RAM for ONE App & does OS X limit allocation?

    Hello all,
This question concerns how much RAM I realistically need to run ONE application to it's fullest. I mainly use ProToolsLE 7.3, but sometimes use LogicPro 8 and Final Cut Express 4, again, only one running at a time. I've read on the ProTools forum that Windows (yuck) limits the amount of RAM that can be allocated for 1 application. Does Mac OS 10.4 or 10.5 do this?
Right now I have the stock 1GB (2 x 512MB). I plan on pulling it and installing a matched quad of either 1GB sticks (4GB total) -OR- 2GB sticks (8GB total). I understand that matched quads in slots 1/2 of both risers is optimum for the early Mac Pros.
The ProTools forum isn't helping much. A ProTools support person said that starting with 4GB will be good to start and that they test their systems with 4GB installed. What did they mean by "good to start"? Will it increase jumping to 8GB or is 4GB all ProTools can really use?
Another guy on there said "keep in mind that to use 4GB of ram - you'd need a 64bit Operating system (not supported by pro-tools) or on a MAC PAE support enabled, which depending on your hardware may not be a great move." I dont know what that means! Mac OS 10.5 IS a 64bit OS, right? And ProTools 7.4 NEEDS OS 10.5 to run....even if it is only a 32bit app. (though right now I am running PT 7.3 on OS 10.4....not sure if 10.4 is 64bit)
A quad set of 1GB is under $170 and a quad set of 2GB is under $270. Funds are tight right now, but I think I can swing the extra $100 to double the RAM -IF- it will make a difference.
Any thoughts as to wether the extra $100 will be worth it, or am I wasting my money? Thanks!

    Hatter,
Thank you so much for your advice! If I may bother you to receive one final suggestion....
Based on the best prices I have found from all of the well known Mac Pro memory dealers, I have narrowed it down to 3 configurations that are balanced. Even though I'm still not 100% confident that 8GB of RAM will give me any noticable imporvement over 6GB, the price is only $42 more to get 8GB. Am I correct in saying that the early Mac Pro would do better to have one matched quad set of RAM over the new Mac Pro's increased performance of having all eight slots filled? Here are the 3 configurations and prices.
    4 x 1GB + 4 x 512MB = 6GB Quad+Quad $220 (using my stock 2x512MB sticks)
    4 x 2GB = 8GB Quad $262 (pulling my stock 2x512MB sticks)
    8 x 1GB = 8GB Octal $278 (pulling my stock 2x512MB sticks)
Which do you think would be the best route?
I already purchased a WD Caviar for my dedicated audio drive. I installed a Seagate 7200.9 in my PowerMac G4 for it's audio drive, but after reading various reveiws, concluded the WD Caviar is a better performer. I LOVE my WD My Book Studio external. I hadn't considered replacing the boot drive, but after reading articles suggesting that it improves overall system performance, and now that you've recommended it as well, I will probably buy a second Caviar for the boot/system drive.
This computer is a DEDICATED audio computer, for ProTools & Logic only....other than a bit of fiddling in Final Cut Express. It's not even connected to the internet and all unnecessary apps are not installed or uninstalled. I also never migrate apps, but always do a fresh install of everything from the ground up.
Thanks again for your advice! It's been a big help!

  • Possible to check how much time an update statement on a table would take ?

    Hello @all
I have a table with a fragmented Index, the table has an actula "user_updates" from 226'699.
How can i find out how much time an update on this table takes ?
i would like to check if there is any performance increase when i regroup the index (rebuild), cause the index has a fragementation of 85% now... (or should i delete the index completely) cause there are no user_seeks... only user_updates on the table...
and i thought that indexes only makes sense if users are reading from the table... am i wrong ? (cause on every update from the table, the index (indexes) have to be updated too...
    Thanks and Regards
    Dominic

Rebuilding the index will not likely result in a modification be quicker. At least not more than marginal. In fact, it might wven be slower, since if you currently have space on the index page for the new row and then rebuild so you *don't* have space then
the index rebuild will make that update be slower (at least for the cases where you get page splits).
However if the index isn't used to find rows (any of the other three columns), then you have an index which only cost you and doesn't help you!

  • Article automatically closes after updating the article in the folio builder?

For some reason, every time I update an article in the folio builder, the article closes automatically - this is extremely annoying because I like to keep all articles open while working and hate that every time I update, I must reopen it. It seems to be a setting but I've searched preferences etc and can't find any setting to turn this off?
Thanks so much for your help!

    Hi there!
Thank you so much for your reply -
It is only happening with a particular folio yes (my ipad rendition in particular). Other folios update and do not close the updating article.
I'm using the latest cloud version of InDesign - whichever one in the creative cloud app that's currently running. And I use Mac.
I reset the preferences as you suggested but it is still closing the article - it's very strange because it only does it with that particular folio. At least it only does it with that folio or I'd pull my hair out haha

I have a ibook that powers up but has no display, is it an easy fix? how much would it cost to fix

    Hi,
Can the sounds of an active hard drive be heard at some point (indicating a normal startup)?
There is a problem with the graphics processing unit (GPU) and its ball grid array (BGA) on some iBook computers, leading to similar symptoms. Reflowing (resoldering) the BGA is a work for specialists, and is going to be expensive. A web search will  return a number of more or less realistic alternative attempts to solve the issue. Outside pressure applied to the affected area has sometimes been used for troubleshooting, or even as a temporary "solution".
It is of course possible that the iBook in question has a completely different fault, such as a broken display cable.

To transfer your current hard drive I like the free application SuperDuper. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html  You'll need a cheap SATA external hard drive case. Put the new drive in the case then format and partition the new drive and clone your old drive to the new one. Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Then replace your old hard drive with the new one and put your old one in the external case.

  • TS5376 Uninstalling iTunes to reinstall and fix problems. How much to delete?

When I tried to update iTunes to 11.1.4 for Windows, I got the message "this copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly, please reinstall."  It was working just fine before!
I followed the instructions in the Support area for uninstalling using the Control Panel.  That went smoothly.  But I don't know exactly how much of iTunes I have to uninstall beyond the 5 line items listed.  In other words, my music files are still there, in multiple places.  (I've backed them up on a thumb drive.)  Do I have to delete ALL my iTunes data folders and music?  Or is it just those 5 components -- then reboot and install?
Please help with more explicit instructions before I  make a mistake.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello genieb47
You should only remove the 4 items indicated from the remove and reinstall iTunes article below. Everything else, like your iTunes Music folder can stay where it is.
