How much better is the new Graphic Card?

  • How much better is the 256mb video card?

I am shopping to get a new laptop and am sold on the MacbookPro 15'' model, but a I am wondering how much better the 2.16 model is than the 2.00.
My real concern is in the video card. If I get the 2.0GHZ model with 1GB of RAM should I just upgrade to the 2.16 and get double the video card.
How much of disadvantage will I be at with 128mb graphics card running say Adobe Illustartor(if the Intel version ever comes out.)
    Thanks

Actually it's more of the opposite. Unless you are
playing a game like Oblivion, the extra Vram will not
make any noticeable difference in games. The pipes
and frequency are the same on both models. The extra
Vram helps in editting situations as there is more to
    draw from.
Never did I say it will make a noticable difference in games, I said 5-10%. I don't know what "editting situations" is but in most programs it does not help at all unless the program uses GPU to render rich 3d graphics such as animation programs.
I just have a MBP so can't offer a firsthand account
but I did read an online magazine I think in the UK
where they compared gaming performance between the
two and it was huge. One some popular games the
    performance was like
    60 FPS MBP
    10 FPS MB
I don't recall the exact games they tested but there
WAS a big gaming difference. So check it out and
    google for some test results.
Thats Macbook vs. Macbook Pro i.e. Intel Integraed video card vs. X1600, he wants to know how x1600 256mb compares to the 128mb version.

  • How much fast are the new iMac's?

I've been looking at upgrading my G5 PowerMac for a while and now Apple has just updated the iMac. How much faster are the new models over the just superseded ones and my G5 (spec below).
I mainly us it for my work with Photoshop CS2 and the G5 does a great job most of the time but is showing it's age. I was looking at the 2nd model but for not much more you can get the 27inch screen with better upgrade options.

    Hi Craig,
even the very first 2006 released Intel iMacs were faster than the G5 iMacs including yours.
    See this Barefeats test http://www.barefeats.com/imcd3.html
Check additional tests on Barefeats on older iMacs against newer ones http://www.barefeats.com/
The new 2010 iMacs of any sort run circles around the 2006 iMacs, so you are in for a very pleasant surprise

  • For the 24 inchers...how much better is the ATI over the NVIDIA?

Well, I just purchased the new 24in IMac at 3.06 ghz with its basic options....4gb ram, TB hard drive and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 video card. My friend, coincedentally bought the same one just a few days later, however its refurbished, has the (only) other video card option, I believe the ATI Radeon HD 4850. My friend has relentlessly teased me saying their IMac is "better" than mine. Now this doesn't all bother that much, however, according to the apple website, at only $50 more for the "better" ATI video card....how much better is it actually? Will the performance be that noticable in applications such as After Effects and Motion? If anybody can clear up the $50 difference and as to why that is, I'd appreciate it.

I don't know how much detail you want in the answer, but Apple has basic comparisons between the GT 130 and the 4850. Go here
    http://www.apple.com/imac/features.html
and click on +View the iMac Graphics Performance Chart+ link under +Fast, faster, or fastest?+
On the plus side (for your choice), Apple seems to be working more closely with NVIDIA these days. That may (or may not) be beneficial when Snow Leopard is released.

  • How do I use the secondary graphics card on a mac book pro with retina display?

I know that this is kind of a stupid question but I am new to dual graphics cards and this is the first mac that I have ever had, so I don't understand how you use the 2nd graphics card. When I click on the apple logo and go to about it shows the Intel Graphics HD 4000, but I know that they put an Nvida in here to so how do I access that? Because it has a lot more graphic power than the intel does.

Try opening iPhoto and then consulting the More Info... item. That app will cause an autoswitch to the big GPU.
Same will happen with any other app that requires that kind of display driving power.

  • How do I put a new graphics card in my hp p6310y?

Hello. I'd like to upgrade my computer's graphics card for a better gaming experience with games such as Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops. I am buying a EVGA Nvidia GeForce GT 430 Graphics Card with 1024MB DDR3 Memory and was wondering how to install it. Or if it was even compatible.
Thanks. (Sorry if it's the wrong section. I'm new here)

    Hi Bzar,
The NVIDIA GTS 450 needs a 6 pin PCI-E power connector and a 400 watt power supply.  The HP p6310y only has a 300 watt power supply.
A decent video card for a PC with a 300 watt power supply is the NVIDIA GT 240 512mb or 1GB with DDR5 memory.  This card will not support DirectX 11 which is used in the newer games to provide improved detail.

  • How much better is the 7300GT than the X1600 Radeon?

I'm contemplating getting an iMac. I still haven't decided whether I should wait to see if Apple does an Aluminium iMac with a matte screen.
But if I decide to buy now, I have a choice of two macs, the 24 inch white and 20 inch white ones. I can't get a mac with a 7600GT, but I was wondering if there's a significant difference between the graphics card in the 20 inch - a 1600 Radeon and the 7300GT in the 24 inch. I suspect the 24 inch screen might be a bit too big, but then again, the graphics card might be more powerful.

Me again... let me approach this in a different way:
I'm very close to upgrading my current Mac (DP 1.8 G5) with the 2.4/24" imac - everything I've read tells me it will be faster and it runs on Intel chips which means I can run Windows should I want/need to. My only reason for potentially installing windows is to play a few games which aren't available for the Mac such as MS Flight Sim. In any event, I know the bulk of messages on this board are people trying to resolve issues, etc. - but does anyone have the 24"/2.4 alum iMac with the HD 2600 card and playing any games on Mac and Windows and all is just fine? I'd love to hear some good news on this!
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • TS4412 This article is helpful but how much better if the problem had been avoided by proper programming in the first place.

This article should never have needed to be written if the upgrade had been properly programmed in the first place.  It is really shoddy producing something which causes a lot of work to so many people. Although the work round worked, it took a long time to download both the trial version and then the upgrade and re-install and deprived me of the opportunity to do what I would otherwise have done.  It puts me off using updates in future.

  • How to install new graphic card?

I would like to try to upgrade my graphic card (currently have a GeForce 7300) to run newer games on my pc, but have never opened the back of a computer before.  I was hoping someone might be able to help.  Is it as easy as just removing the old card and installing the new one?
I was thinking of replacing it with a Geforce 9500 or 9600.  My computer has an AMD 6400 dual processor 2.80 ghz with 2 GBs of RAM so the new graphics card should fit, right?
Much thanks for any thoughts and advice.

Yep just remove and replace. Just make sure its the correct type (AGP, PCI-e, etc) thats already in there.
The instructions with the card are pretty simple.
    1. unplug computer and remove all cords.
    2. lay computer on table.
    3. unscrew case screws and slide cover (side cover or whole cover depending on make) off.
    4. lay computer on side so you can see the mother board.
    5. touch metal chassis before touching any component.
    6. unscrew screw that holds the part of the vid card at the back slots.
    7. unplug any cable to the vid card.
    8. theres a latch that needs to be unlocked before removing card. unlock it (usually slides to the front of the computer, dont force anything)
    9. pull vid card straight out.
install new card in reversed order. Make sure you install the new cards software/drivers according to instructions.

  • Can I put a new graphics card and power supply in my computer.

Hey all, I have the P7-1459 comp and it is good, but i was hoping to maybe give it a gaming boost. But i havent been able to find out if it could handle what i want to do. The new Graphics card would require a 450W power supply and i dont know if this comp could handle it. Anyone know one way or another? Need some help.
    This question was solved.

    Joshua, you are very welcome!
I am sorry that I misunderstood your question.  I thought that you wanted to know if the computer would handle the card.
Yes, you can upgrade the power supply unit (PSU).  I suggest measuring the existing PSU and comparing those measurements to the one that you choose.  I like OCZ and Corsair.  They will provide enthusiast quality with a reasonable price.  A good video card requires clean, stable power.  I recommend at least 500W; 550W to 600W would be even better.  This would allow for some future upgrades.  The computer only uses the amount of power needed to run the components.
    I hope this helps.

  • Installing new graphics card in hp p7-1155

I have a new EVGA GEFORCE GT730 2GB GDDR5 graphics card and am ready to install it in the above box.
Haggiscat suggested this board thru a previous post on this site. I have printed out the install directions from the hp help so I have the mechanics of how to install this thing. Those directions say to disable the on-board graphics card first, then go into the box and install the new card. My question is: Do I need to do anything else first such as downloading the driver first/delete the old driver first.etc? Also, I have a disc that came with the new card. Do I use that to get the drivers or go to the invidia website? I want this install to go as smoothly as possible so expert help would be appreciated.
I'm not sure how to direct you to the previous post but it's in this section. Take a look for some background.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I suggest that your carefully read the instructions published by EVGA.   I have multiple EVGA graphics cards and none of the directions ever suggested to uninstall the old video drivers prior to installing the new graphics card.  Use the drinver disk that comes with the graphics card after your boot up. The default Windows drivers will work and then you can install the EVGA supplied drivers.  EVGA also has a web site that you can obtain later drivers that have been tested by EVGA for your graphics card.
The modern HP motherboards will automatically switch to the discrete graphics card if detected and if it is compatible with the BIOS and motherboard.
The NVIDIA 7xx series graphic cards have been problematic with HP motherboards using a version 7 BIOS.  some may work and some may not work.
The reality is that there is no a guarantee that any particular graphics card will work in any particular PC even if the graphics card works in other PCs or even the same or similar model PCs. Know what the return policy is before you buy.

  • Help with installing new graphics card

Hi I have a 3 year old hpe575a (hp pavillion)
    Intel i7 2600, 8gb ram
Orginally had a ati hd radeon  2gb (not sure what model)
    in it
after 2 years the radeon finally melted ( always had overheating problems in the australian summer )
so I bought a nvidia gtx630m which had the same connections and power requirements and connections as the radeon
I csnt seem to get it working, despite the card powering up, and loading the splash screen it doesnt go any further, I can get to the network boot screen or the hp splash screen but no further, and I cant find any bios updates for my mptherboard (pegatron) so do I need a new motherboard? The computer works 100% fine without the new graphics card
Should I get a new motherboard. Or graphics card? which would be cheaper? or is there someway to get the current system to work with the new graphics card? thanks -zac

    Hi,
The existing card is an "AMD Radeon HD6570 (2 GB)". I don't know how you can fit a Nvidia GTX630M to your machine because this card is for laptop:
         http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-630m/specifications
Probably you are talking about the following card:
        http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-630/specifications
The card should be able to use 300W PSU on your machine (no need new PSU). My suggestion:
    (a) Update BIOS to the latest one, please check, should be "Version7.15 Rev. A" the motherboard is Cleveland

    (b) Install driver for new card
    Hope this helps.

  • New graphics card not working in old Pavilion elite

Hey, so i bought a new graphics card, ASUS strix 750ti oc ed., when i plug it in to my Pavilion elite hpe 531sc i get a blue screen with the hp logo and a text saying 'press esc for startup menu' or something like that. Pressing esc does nothing, pressing any other button does me nothing either.
I tried plugging in the old graphics card, it still sort of works except i cant really play games or get my resolution above 800x600, and install the drivers and all for the new graphics card. But the new graphics card still dont work when plugged back in.
So im at a loss here, is my desktop simply too old or something?

Seeing alot of postings about trying that card.  See this thread on a possible solution:
