How much CPU usage should I expect?

I have a two week old MBP and I find that my battery performance is dismal.  I'm only getting 2 hours per charge, and this is after Apple replaced my battery two days ago!
I think it might be related to my CPU usage...
Looking at Activity Monitor, my "% User" CPU usage is routinely above 26%, with only Safari running (no videos).
Even with no programs open I run over 25%.
Is this normal?  If not, what IS normal?
Any suggestions?
Thanks!!!

what does activity monitor show is running?
RAM takes up battery life.
have you gone into energy saver and set things accordingly for when you are running on battery power? this setting is put there to get the most life out of your battery.

  • How much CPU should the Agent (in general) be using on an Exchange 2010 Server

    Hello
Can someone please help me with the following question.
I was asked by the Exchange admin if the HealthService.exe process should be using around 10% of the CPU on a 6 core system.
First of I am note sure if the agent can use more than one core and if the % CPU as shown in Task Manager reflects all cores for a given process e.g. does 10% mean 10% across all cores or just one core.
I explained the Agent is running many workflows and instigating other tasks i.e. monitoring host and perhaps cscript etc. So it is difficult to say how much CPU is normal!
However does anyone else have an Exchange 2010 environment (I am using SCOM 2007 R2 CU6) and if so how much CPU is it using over a few minutes?
also, if there a canned report I can run which shows how much CPU the agent is using over time.
    Thanks in advance

There are many scripts and monitoring workflows in general that run in the Exchange management pack. CPU may spike periodically while scripts are executing. However, this may be a SyncTime issue in the Exchange pack - since there are many scripts in the
pack, it would be recommended to cascade script runtime by using SyncTime configuration. I haven't taken a look at this pack in some time, so cannot comment on whether this practice was used. In general, a typical SCOM agent should not use more than 1-5% CPU
time, sustained. But, again, for heavily scripted packs like the Exchange pack, you will likely see CPU spikes regularly.

  • How to estimate how much CPU time is parse related DB 9i wide .

    Hi,
I'm trying to estimate how much CPU time is parse related and next compare that value after i.e. cursor_cache setting. So far I've found :
    parse time cpu
    parse time elapsed
    in v$sysstat .
Are there good indicators for my needs ?
Basically when I get CPU time from statspack and parsetime_cpu (somehow) i can derive percentage usage.
btw how is 'CPU time' in statspack calculated ?
I'm running AIX DB 9.2.0.8 EE , can take historical data from statspack .
    Regards.

You can check you Adobe account online to see if the serial number is registered under your account.  If not then your only option will likely be to contact Adobe Support directly thru chat to see if they can provide you with a/the serial number. For them to do so will require you being able to prove ownership.

Without knowing the excat model or what software, hardware or external components are running CPU usage is just an average measurement.  If you have alot of background components/software running can cause a high reading, as it you allowed updating to runn consistently, or IM Messenger to consistently gain access.

  • How to calcuate how much cpu/cores needed for an amalgamation of databases on a single instance

Hi all, We have been given a project of producing a high level hardware spec for a new oracle linux server that would be an amalgamation of our current 5 windows servers all running Oracle 11203 Windows 2008 r2. All our windows boxes are Intel dual core with 12 cores each. My question is how to measure how much cpu is our current each oracle database is using to determine the min cpu/cores required for the new linux box? Hope i make sense. Thanks!

Hope that above excerpts from AWR reports can tell how much cpu is consuming each database , because for each database you will run awr report and then compare them .

  • How much sleep time should i set

    hi ,
i have a 110 threads running concurrently all making socket connections connecting to a server and performing some operation , i just want to know how much sleep time should i set so that all the threads keep working fine without hanging the program and also do their work

Is there nothing in checkPacketAndSendMessage? Are your 100 threads the producers of the messages or is it another thread?
If you want to send as many messages as possible, then why set in a sleep at all? If you are worried about responsiveness on the machine it is running on, you should just lower the priority of the java process at the operating system level. It all comes down to how many messages per second you are required to send.
So far this is not a concurrency problem, maybe you should post it in the Java Programming forum or networking forum.

  • How much video (time) should fit on standard DVD?

Importing from VHS to iMovieDVD then "sharing" to iDVD to Burn to Disc.
What should my expectations be regarding amount of video on one DVD? It looks like 1 hour of video will fit on the DVD (4.2gb).
The specs on the DVD says I can record 2hrs at SP but didn't seem to have an option to select prior to iDVD burning to disc.
Would like to get at least 2 hours on one disc since I'm only archiving video and highest quality is not a requirement.
    Thanks

    Welcome to discussions:)
Question 9: How much material can a single DVD disc hold?
Answer: A DVD-R disc can hold about 4.7 GB. This allows up to 120 minutes of high-quality video to fit on a DVD.

  • How much HD space should I partician for Windows XP?

I am upgrading to a new (2010) iMac i5 with 1 TB HD and I was wondering how much disc space I should make for Windows XP? I only have a couple of special apps that I use in Windows and the attending files do not take up much space so other than the OS I may not need too much, but would appreciate a little starting point. Thanks.

I got this mixed up with my Shakespearean readings. I should be partition. I hit the key before reading.

  • Making a thread so it doesn't consume so much CPU Usage

I have a simple application consisting of merely a timer that counts down from 2 minutes to 0. Running the timer is a simple thread that uses a run() method which has the following form:
    public void run() {
       while(threadContinue) {
          updateTimer();
}And then I start the read like this:
new Thread(this).start();But from viewing my processes in the task manager, it is apparent that this java application is using up a huge amount of my computer's CPU usage. How can I make a thread that is not so heavily run on my computer, per se.
    Thank you!

Well you're updating the time awfully a lot especially by using a while loop (considering the computer is trying to jam a lot of update executions for just a second), how about inserting a Thread.sleep(<inc. of time>) then have your updateTimer() method update in increments of the inc. you supplied?

  • How much internet usage (GB) will it take to download iOS 5.1.1?

I have the Verizon Mi-Fi thing and my monthly internet allowance is 5gb.
Right now I have iOS 4.2.1 and want to download iOS 5.1.1, but I don't want it to blow my usage.
So how much data would be used to download it?

If you have not yet upgraded to 5.1.1, don't.  There is code in the upgrade which causes charging issues.  Chargers and USB cables which worked perfectly prior to applying the update stop being able to charge the device.  This problem appears to be widespread, just google "Charging is not supported with this accessory" and you will get 350,000 hits.
For my own experience, my daughter has an iPod Touch, and my wife has an iPad (original).  Both were upgraded to 5.1.1, and now neither will charge.  I have 2 different chargers, and 4 USB cables.  Plugging either device into my laptop (Win7), my desktop (Win7), or the wall via the chargers all come up with the same error.  All cables and chargers worked before the iOS upgrade.  My niece has a Belkin charger, am going to try that next.
Do yourself a favour, stay away from 5.1.1.
